Chapter Nine
Known For Their Courage

December Snow (Brittney)
“Come on, you guys!” I yelled through the vast halls of Hogwarts. “We’re coming!” I heard most of them yell. Then we saw Hagrid at the top of the stairs. He was obviously waiting for us. I smiled and as we got to where he was, greeted, “Hey, Hagrid.” “Hallo. Are yeh ready ter go inside?” He asked in his gruff voice. We all made sure we looked all right enough then nodded. Hagrid smiled and said, “Then follow me!” He walked off and we followed him to two colossal doors. Then he opened them. We looked dead straight into the Great Hall. 4 elongated tables were situated all over the room. Several brightly lit candles illuminated the whole area. “Wow.” I heard Christian say behind me, her light gray eyes looking all around. I nodded in agreement. It was just like the books and movies and then some. It was almost like the author had actually been there and now we were given the pleasure.

Faces turned towards us immediately. “Professor Dumbledore, sir. The Chosen Ones have arrived.” A whole chorus of whispers came all around us. Professor Dumbledore motioned for us to come to him, but for some reason we just stood there. My feet were frozen to the spot. Hagrid looked around awkwardly then stepped out of the way. “Go on. Ter the front.” We nodded then started slowly walking towards the teachers’ table. We walked between two tables. When I looked over to the right, I saw the familiar blue-green eyes of Harry Potter. He looked so much older now than in the movies. A lot more handsome. Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger sat next to him as usual. I realized that we were walking next to the Gryffindor table. “…Gryffindor.” I mumbled to myself. I knew for a fact that if what Professor Dumbledore said was true, we would all be in Gryffindor.

I glanced at Harry one last time before turning my attention to the top table again. His eyes followed me all the way. When we got to the area before the table, we stopped. All of the teachers including Professor Dumbledore stared at us as if they knew something we didn’t. Not knowing what else to do, I curtseyed to the teachers. The others followed my lead, bowing and curtseying in their own ways. The teachers laughed lightly and Dumbledore replied, “You children rise. If anything, we should be bowing to you, for you are the ones who will save the wizarding world from a certain doom.”

We obeyed and Dumbledore commanded, “Face the students.” We did, seeing a number of faces staring at us. Dumbledore stood saying, “Students, meet the 7 children that will save us all. They are going to be known as the Chosen Ones.” Though they are only from 11 to 16 years old, they will each be treated as if they are prefects themselves for your lives are in their hands. Now introduce yourselves and tell them your specialty, chosen ones. Starting with you. ” He pointed at Charity.

Autumn Jade
I gulped and took off the hood on my cloak, revealing my yellow pigtails and jade colored eyes. I couldn’t believe how many people were watching me. ”M-my name is-s Autumn Jade. I am 11 years old and my magical specialty is stopping time.” I then looked over at Andrew who nodded and as he took off his hood, his spiked crimson hair and purple eyes seemed to shine instantly.

Darkshadow
This whole situation was just weird to me. Why did we have to introduce ourselves now? Why couldn’t we later when we were sorted out into our houses? Oh well. “My name is Darkshadow, I am the oldest at 16 years old and I specialize with matter of life and death.” Somebody at the Slytherin table asked gruffly “How so?”
I was perplexed because believe it or not, I hadn’t even got to use my powers very much. Dumbledore saved me by saying, “Darkshadow is kind of like a miniature Grim Reaper. He can make the choice of saving a life or even… ending it.” Gasps rang throughout all of the Great Room and I looked over at Amber who began to take off her hood.

Summer Rose
My curls fell all over my face covering my yellow eyes and I looked around for a moment, turned around slightly and gasped seeing the man of my dreams, Oliver Wood. I stared right into his eyes and saw that he was enchanted by me. Shit, I was enchanted by him too. “She’s beautiful. Way younger than me , but beautiful.” I could hear Wood say in my mind. But I also read other minds as well. “Wow, what a looker!” “I want a piece of that.” “Shit, she is fine!” I coughed nervously and just to torture the guys, flipped my hair over my shoulder flirtatiously. “Summer…” Brittney said quietly, and I gasped because I was indeed keeping everybody up. “My name is Summer Rose. I am 15 years old and I can read minds.” Everybody had looks of surprise on their faces and I said, “Yep, that means that I could hear every little thing that you were thinking about me just now, gentlemen.” The whole student body started to laugh, and that made me feel so good. At least people in Hogwarts would know that I was a friendly person who was somewhat down to earth. The other half of me was in Mars.

Sunstar
I already had my hood off to begin with and people had already noticed my weird spiked orange hair and golden eyes. “Hey what’s up, everyone. I’m called Sunstar also known as Sunny. I am 15 and I can make light from inside my body…I guess from solar power. Just call me Mr. Sunshine.” People started laughing again and Ron was cracking up.
I chuckled awkwardly and whispered to Amber, “Lively bunch, huh?” She nodded whispering back, “You’re telling me! I think everybody would learn to like you, Michael. You are so carefree.” I smiled at her and said, “You better stop that flirting, girl. I’ve gotten so many in my lifetime.” Amber rolled her eyes and retorted, “See if I ever give you another compliment again.” I laughed. Then Amber and I looked over at Christian who was taking off her hood.

Silver Rain
“Hi.” I said, looking straight at Harry. My name is Silver Rain, but you can call me Rain. I'm 13 and I can turn invisible.” “Show us.” Somebody said, “I nodded and disappeared right then and there. “Whoa! Did you see that! Where did she go?” Voices said.
I grinned then came right back into view. Everyone gasped and gave me a loud round of applause. I smiled bashfully and praised myself inwardly. I had been using my powers so much that now…. It just felt like second nature.

Nightfire
I looked at my classmates with a carefree manner and said, “My name is Nightfire. I’m 15 and I can cast fire magic.” Crabbe looked me up and down and said, “You look so evil man, I bet that you will be cast into Slytherin in no time.” Brittney gasped in terror beside me and after glancing at her, I said, “I don’t know. That’s up for the Sorting Hat to choose. All I know is that I will do my best, no matter what house I’m in.”

“That’s quite a optimistic attitude you have, Nightfire. I hope you can keep it up this whole year.” Dumbledore said, behind me. I looked behind my shoulder and said, “I will try, sir.” Finally, it was Brittney’s turn. Good thing too, because I was getting tired of standing there and telling people who I was.

December Snow
“Hey, everybody.” I said, slowly pulling my hood off. “My name is December Snow.” Instead of the laughter, oohs and ahs that people were giving everybody else, I got complete silence. I looked around uneasily, trying to figure out why nobody was giving me any feedback, and then I realized what it was. It was awe. I had shocked the students and teachers into silence. I remembered Charity telling me that I looked like a ice queen and that’s probably what everyone else was thinking too.

“I am 15 years old and like Nightfire, I can cast magic but only ice. I lead the Chosen Ones as does Nightfire and I’m proud to do it. I am a pretty nice person once you get to know me. I hope we can become friends.” Everybody finally got their composures back and applauded me. I looked away bashfully. I didn’t need all of this attention. I turned around and smiled at Dumbledore whose dazzling blue eyes flickered out from under his spectacles. Then I looked at the rest of the teachers slowly until I got to the potions professor. Professor Serverus Snape looked at me and just stared at me and I cringed under his scrutiny. What the hell was he looking at? I wasn’t all that special. I turned back around quickly, sighing deeply.

Amber looked down at me and said, “What?” I glanced at her and said, Professor Snape was staring at me really weird. Look.” She complied and gasped turning her head back. “What? Was he still looking at me?” I whispered. “No. Now he was looking straight at me. What a perv.” We giggled then quickly became quiet when Dumbledore got up and so did Professor McGonagall. It was time to be sorted. I didn’t understand why we needed to be sorted. We were all going to be in Gryffindor anyway. Weren’t we?

First, Professor McGonagall put the hat on my head. It was very light almost like a feather. “Ah, December Snow. When I read you, I can tell your heart is overflowing with courage and generosity. We expect very good things from you.” It explained to me. Then afterwards it did everybody else and finally came to Daniel. My heart thumped anxiously. I tried to hope for the best.

Amber
The Sorting Hat then looked at down at Daniel frowning. “Oh…that’s right…Nightfire. Tell me, what does your heart feel like? Is it dark like the midnight blue of your hair or is it flaming with heroism like your spirited red eyes. All Daniel did was look around, raising one eyebrow sarcastically and sighed. The Sorting Hat scowled and said, Put me back on the stool. I have made my decisions.” Professor McGonagall complied and we waited. Finally the hat said, “ Here are the sortings as follows:

December Snow…Gryffindor! Summer Rose…Gryffindor!
Winter Rain…Gryffindor!Autumn Jade…Gryffindor!
Sunstar…Gryffindor!

O nly two more to go. The Sorting Hat looked around then announced loudly, “Nightfire belongs in …Slytherin!” Brittney gasped in horror and whispered, “No!” Daniel kept a stony look on his face but I knew that the decision didn’t stand too well with him. The hat kept going. “And Darkshadow also…in Slytherin!” “What?” Brittney said in surprise. I shook my head. Now we had two Slytherin Chosen Ones. There had to be something wrong with that. The applause rose from the Slytherin table as they greeted their new housemates. I glanced at Brittney. I swear she looked like she was about to cry in frustration. But she masked her face up quickly and nodded.

Dumbledore then lifted up his goblet and announced, “Now that we have gotten our Chosen Ones sorted, let’s continue with the feast. Enjoy!” Food appeared every where and I suddenly noticed how starved I was. In the hurry in getting to Hogwarts, we totally forgot to eat and now I was pretty sure that everybody was famished. We Gryffindors walked down to our table saying our sad goodbyes to Daniel and Andrew with our eyes. Three hands waved us down and we all walked over to where Harry, Ron and Hermione were sitting and chowing down.

My mouth began to water from just gazing at the succulent honey glazed ham in the middle of the table. “Have a seat, you guys.” Ron said, as they all moved over to make room for us. We sat down; Christian immediately sitting next to Harry and I sat next to Hermione. Hermione gave me a plate saying, “Hi. Hermione Granger. Nice to meet you…Summer Rose, was it?” I nodded, taking the plate and setting it down.“Yes, hi. It’s nice to finally meet you.” Hermione frowned, perplexed. She grabbed a roll glancing at me from time to time.

“Finally?”

Quickly, I noticed my mistake and said, “Nothing. It’s a long story.” She nodded, not pressing the issue and I took a bite of my ham. It was sweet and succulent. Soft meaty morsel of heaven. I moaned with pleasure and smiled. “Good?” I opened my eyes slowly to look at a amused Ron and said, “It’s… wonderful!” Hermione and Ron started laughing and I sighed, feeling at home with my brand new fellow classmates.

December
It was tearing my heart up that Daniel and Andrew were not with us, but I swallowed my problem down for now and turned to Harry asking with a sweet voice that was forced from my mouth, “So what year are you guys in now?”
Harry turned to look at me but before he could answer, Hermione cut in saying, “We are 7th years.” I nodded as Harry said, “Almost done.” I smiled at the Boy-Who-Lived and was surprised. We stared. In that moment that passed, I really didn’t feel like he was the most special person in the world that we should worship. He actually was pretty…human. I liked it. “I like your name. December Snow is very exquisite. What’s it like to be the leader of the Chosen Ones?” I swallowed some pumpkin juice and answered, “Oh, I don’t know. It’s different. I never really knew that I had leadership qualities but hey! I guess I do!”

Harry Potter
We laughed and I just wondered about this leader of ice. She was 2 years younger than me and you couldn’t even tell. Her azure colored eyes had a glimpse of sadness inside of them and I knew it just had to be from the sortings. Who knew that 2 of the chosen ones would turn out to be Slytherins? So what? Now the Chosen Ones were against each other? Nah. I bet they were too good of friends for that. “Don’t worry. I’m sure everything will work out, December…I can call you that ,right?” December Snow looked up at me quickly, her ponytails going everywhere. Then she smiled warmly and said, “Yeah. I mean, you could get tired of saying December Snow all the time, so why not?” I nodded and December moved the ponytail out of her face slowly. “Yeah. I wished that hadn’t happened. What kind of Chosen One goes to Slytherin?” I shrugged, honestly wishing that I could answer that question.
Something bumped into my side and I turned seeing another Chosen One girl sitting beside me. Now this one…this one was…striking. She had white hair that full of volume and when she would glance at me and smile her eyes, which were silver by the way would just flash. This one was Winter Rain, the one who turned invisible earlier. I couldn’t tell how old she was and asked, “Excuse me, Winter Rain. How old are you?” Winter Rain just seem thrilled that I would even talk to her. “I’m thirteen.” Shit, she was 4 years younger than me. She was just a baby…a beautiful sexy baby but nevertheless the baby. I then realized that I was sitting between the two Chosen One girls and I relished the feeling of luckiness.

Brittney
Christian then said, “Wow, Harry. You are even more good looking up close than I even imagined you to be.” I nearly choked on the next swallow of my juice and coughed trying to clear up my windpipes.

“Rain!”

Christian looked over at me and said, “What? It’s true!” She gazed up into Harry’s eyes longingly. Harry smiled softly and said, “Thank you, Winter Rain. I have to say that I love your eyes. They’re like the color of silver.” Christian giggled in a high pitched tone and squealed, “Oh, Harry. Stop it!” I rolled my eyes. What a drama queen…I looked over at the Slytherin table and saw Andrew and Daniel sitting together at the end of the table. Daniel’s ruby eyes gazed up at me gradually as he picked at his food. I winced and gave him an apologetic look. He nodded and started talking to Andrew as I heard, “December?” I looked at Harry who was looking at me with a concerned look on his face.

“Oh, nothing. Just some Chosen One difficulties.”

“Okay.”

Slowly we went back to our food in silence. I didn’t want people to see the one of Chosen Ones leaders breaking down. That wouldn’t look good. I wanted people to remember me as some body who changed history forever and still looked good doing it.

Daniel

“How did we get into this, Andi?” I asked, moving my mashed potatoes around my plate. Andrew, who was busy stabbing his steak with his knife looked at me, stopped and shrugged saying, “…Maybe we ARE evil.” I didn’t buy that for a moment.

“Dude, I’m not evil. What the fuck do I need to be evil for? What do I get out of it? Conquering the world for like five minutes then dying because some hero skewers me? Hell no! I want to be the one doing the skewering.

Andrew nodded, agreeing “This house totally sucks. Nobody told us to come sit by them or anything. It’s like we aren’t even here.” I scoffed and crossed my arms. “I don’t need to sit by anybody other than you anyway. You’re the only one I know here.” “Yeah, I know, Danny.” Andrew was silent, just staring at his plate. This being at Hogwarts was not starting off to well with him either. I glanced at Brittney once more, who was now talking to Harry Potter, then picked up my fork and said, “Let’s just finish eating.” After we finished and all the students and teachers were beginning to leave, Dumbledore went up to where Brittney and the others were, motioning for Andrew and myself to come up there. We obeyed, going up to the table just as Dumbledore started, “Chosen Ones, I trust you want to see the castle?”

Christian
We all nodded quickly exclaiming, “Yeah!” Who wouldn’t want to tour this awesome place? Dumbledore continued, “I thought as much.” He looked behind our heads and said, “Mr. Potter.” We looked back at Harry, who was just about to walk out with Ron and Hermione. After hearing Dumbledore’s voice he said a few words to his friends then came up saying, “Yes, Professor?” Professor Dumbledore then said to us, “Chosen Ones, Mr. Potter here will be your tour guide.”

Everybody even Harry had surprised looks. Harry was shocked. I guess he didn’t know he was going to be helping out tonight. I didn’t care. All I knew was that Harry was going to be in my sight for the rest of the night. “…Sweet.” I sighed out. Harry smiled down at me.” I’m thrilled that you’re happy I’m your…guide, Winter Rain.” I smiled timidly as he continued, “Uh sir, are you sure you want to do this right now? It’s getting dark and I need to make my team ready for practice tomorrow.” Not listening to Harry’s excuses, the headmaster answered, “Oh, quite sure. This will be a great time for you and the Chosen Ones to get to know each other more. What do you say, my boy?”

Knowing that he was defeated, Harry sighed in exasperation, rubbing his face. “All right, I’ll do it. Come on, everybody.” We all started to walk out and I saw Ron and Hermione walking up to us at the same time. We met halfway and Harry told them the situation. “Right then, Harry.” Ron said, waving goodbye. Hermione also waved adding, “We’ll see you later in the common room.” “Yep, I’ll be there.” Everyone then left the Great Hall. Ron and Hermione turned right and we turned left. The tour began.
