The Lily Strikes Again
“How many times do I have to tell you, James? Get over that girl, she's not even worth it!” said James' best friend, Sirius Black for the millionth time. “Like I always say, there are plenty of fish in the area.”
“I want to! You think I don't? Do you know how miserable it is to be crushed again and again by the only person I have ever loved?” he said as they made their way down to Hogsmeade station.
It was the end of their sixth year and as everyone knew and predicted, none other than Lily Evans had rejected James. James was Hogwarts' most popular guy (next to Sirius), seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team and a master of transfiguration. And even though it was painful to watch, you have the right to know what happened.

It was the morning of their last day of their second last year. They were making their way down to the Great Hall when James saw the most beautiful lady in the world, according to him, Lily Evans. She looks so cute when she's annoyed, even if it is always because of me, he thought. That was when his idiotic behavior came in. “Hey Evans, how about you go out with me?”
“You know what the answer is going to be, Potter!” she answered coldly.
“Is that a yes?” James, why do you have to be so stupid? Stupid! Stupid! He thought, berating himself.
“No Potter, the answer is the same as always. A big, fat NO!” she said as she stormed off to find her friends.
“Fifty-six,” said Sirius as he took out the piece of parchment that he carried whenever he was with James. “And that's only THIS year, buddy.”
“Remind me again why I haven't murdered you in the past six years?”
“Because, all Moony worries about are his grades and all Wormtail worries about is how we can get in trouble. If you murder me, you murder your only normal friend.”
“People, if we don't go in for breakfast, the bacon and sausages will be all gone and you know what Padfoot is like without bacon and sausages,” Moony suggested.
“It's no wonder he chose to be a dog at full moon,” said James.
“Do you want everybody to know, Prongs?” spazzed Moony, as though everyone was around them listening to every word they said.
“Chill Moony, nobody is going to hear us, they're all in there gulping down the bacon. Now come on, aren't you starving?”
When they reached the Gryffindor table, they found Sirius already there, stuffing his mouth with bacon. Lily Evans looked their way with disgust, and James began to feel of himself for his poor etiquette. And he thought Lily would surely fall for him at that. How wrong he was, how utterly wrong he was.
James went back to the Gryffindor tower early because he always packed up his things at that time. And it just so happened that Lily was there, back from an errand for Professor Flitwick. And James, being the idiot he was, did it again.
“Hey Evans, how about you go out with me?”
“The chances are of me dating you, Potter, are as the same as Snape becoming a professor.”
And before he could help it…
“It's Snivelly, Miss Evans.”
“No, Potter!”

“Anything off the trolley, dears?”
“A box of Bertie's Every Flavour Beans. Actually, make that two. And a box of Chocolate Frogs,” James said.
“What he said,” repeated Padfoot.
They paid for their sweets and brought them into their compartment. After a long and uneventful train ride, they arrived at King's Cross Station. Once there, James spotted his parents at once and was about to walk over to them, but he remembered something he had to do.
“Padfoot, don't hang the parchment up yet. It's gone up to fifty-seven,” he said quietly.
“Now when did that happen? Don't worry Prongs, if I don't get you and Evans together by the end of our seventh year, my name is not Sirius Black.”
“Not in a million years, Black!” replied none other than Lily Evans' cold voice from a distance.
“And I rest my case,” Sirius sighed.
James reluctantly went to his parents. This was going to be a long summer, and an even longer school year. Well, it's a good thing Sirius has his own flat now, he thought. I have a feeling I'll be hanging over there a lot this summer.
