September 24, 1834

GMV-6 has been given to subject.

September 25, 1834

Because GMPV-3 is not working quite right we've began giving it to Mrs. Harker every other day rather than every two days. Alucard is finally well enough to get back to some basic work. I only made him clean the hallways of the first floor today. After his latest beating, Alucard is very obediant.. It's actually quite fun, he flinches every time I move or say anything and actually cowers down whenever I move toward him! I hope this continues at least until the Vatican's Representative has gone. I'll need to work with him, however, so he isn't so terribly jumpy when our guest arrives. I'll need him to be well enough to follow basic commands.

September 29, 1834

Thankfully Alucard is doing very well following orders. The only problem is that he hesitates before following an order, especially if it's a new one. But it's good enough for now. I've given him the evening off as well as his coffin to sleep in tonight. We need him at his best when our guest arrives.

October 1, 1834

The Vatican Representative visited yesterday and my pet did wonderfully. There was only one small misshap, which I let slide because of his exceptional behavior.. And I suppose it was my falt (although I'll never admit that to HIM.) I raised my voice while he was bringing in some tea and crumpets, causing him to drop the tray and hide behind the door. It was quite amusing and we had a good laugh about it after he ran back to the kitchen for more before cleaning up the mess he'd made. I let him keep his coffin for another night and promised to not give him any garlic today.

October 2, 1834

GMV-6 seems to be working quite well, the subject is able to touch silver and only receive first degree burns as opposed to third degree burns as before. I should be receiveing word on wether or not the Vatican will continue funding my projects tomorrow. Alucard was told this just before he went back to his cell for the night. I also told him that it would determine wether or not he'd be punished as the answer will be a direct result of his preformance.. I highly doubt he'll sleep well tonight, even with the coffin I've let him keep.

October 3, 1834

My pet seems to be having some bit of luck, the Vatican will continue funding the projects. I made him wait until after dinner to tell him. Bad idea. Although it was fun seeing him so worried all day, he was too preoccupied worrying about it to really concentrate on his chores. I was quite surprised as when I told him the good news he practically jumped clear across my office and gave me a hug.. It was quite disturbing.. I dismissed him immediately.

October 4, 1834

I'm beyond shocked. Alucard took it uppon himself to not only go out to sun, but also clean my office, dust the library, tidy up my room and cleaned and blackleaded* the fireplaces in preperation for the cooler months.. all while I was out tending to a patient.. I had completely forgotten to tell the guards what he was to do today.. I was just going to have him tidy up the main rooms (the ones he worked on anyways).. Perhaps he's snapped? I didn't even get to see him today as I returned so teribly late, he'd already gone back to his cell for the night. I will have to think of a fitting reward for such behavior.

*
blackleading was the use of a paste-like substance that was used to polish the iron on things such as fireplaces and the kitchen stove. Cleaning the fireplace was a daily chore during this time period in the cooler months. This was done by removeing any ash and sifting out the cinders (pieces of coal that mixed with the ash and was still useable), then the grate, fender and fender irons were rubbed down with emery paper to remove any rust (this was only done if there was any rust spotted as well as the first cleaning before use after the summer). Blacklead was then applied and buffed with a blacklead brush before being polished to a shine. For daily maintnence, the grate, fender and fender irons were buffed with a piece of dry leather to keep it's shine after the ashes were removed. The entire thing was cleaned at least twice a week (more often if there were more than two servants)

October 5, 1834

I awoke during the night to find my pet sleeping at the foot of my bed. He said that he was just tired of the basement and apologised profusely. I was too tired to argue and woke with him curled against my legs like a loyal puppy! He took the garlic with absolutely no fuss what so ever, actually reminded me when it was time for him to go out and sun, and helped the maids change out the linens and put up the drapery*! I'm beginning to wonder if he's up to something.

*Drapery was put up around doorways not only for decoration, but also to keep drafts out durring the cooler months. Bugs were a big problem throughout the Victorian era, especially in London (I'm baseing this info on the Victorian era because it's just before / right around the beginning of the era and it's the time period I know most about) They had to change out the bed linens daily (not to wash them, that was done once a week, but alternate them to keep bugs from having the chance to set up residence) and I'm not even going to go into what all had to be done if there WERE bugs found in the bedroom!

October 6, 1834

I found my pet sleeping at the foot of my bed yet again this morning and he's been following me around like a loyal puppy all day.. Which was really curious as I'd gone out for a walk and it was very warm, not a cloud in the sky. Obviously the sunning is quite effective as after an hour he only had a bad sunburn. He helped with one of the test subjects that was giving the doctors a hard time. When I first brought him home, he was absolutely beyond furious at even the idea of his fellow monsters being tortured and experimented on. I am beginning to see the fire of hope fade from his eyes, there also seems to be a bit of insanity taking it's place. Perhaps this is the reason for the drastic change..

October 7, 1834

I've decided that sense we are not seeing much results with Mrs Harker and GMPV-3, that she will start her treatment of XN-4.2 This drug has been shown to increase their bodies' core temperature to somewhat that of a human's. The exact results vary from one subject to the next. Alucerd continues to act strangely. He asked me this morning, just after comeing in from suning (which he's turned into time helping the gardeners!) if he could have a few of his powers back for the day. I was quite weary of the idea, of corse, but granted the request. He then asked permission to go work in other rooms as I was buisy with paperwork and he'd already cleaned every nook and cranny of the office. He wanted the powers back to help him get more work done faster. I reluctantly granted his request under the condition that he stay within sight of a guard at all times.

He actually went out and found a guard that was not needed at his post to keep an eye on him! I found this out just before dinner when Alucard came back to my office followed by the guard whom he'd asked to come in with him incase I wanted to confirm what he told me about his day. I was shocked yet again when the first thing my pet said was that he was done useing his powers for the day and that I could take them back now! He spent the day helping with the restoration of the rooms that had been burned during his attempt at escape. The workers are now a week ahead of scedual and the only reason they could not continue was because they ran out of paste for the wallpaper.

I think I'll start the modifications to my pet in the morrow, seeing as he's gotten mostly immune to the garlic and sun.

October 8, 1834

I gave Alucard the day off, a promised reward for his cooperation in the procedure. He was given XN-4.1 which is effective in increasing the senses (sight, smell and hearing mostly). Annother reason for his day off is that the test subjects for this drug all experienced temperary blindness and deafness. I most certianly cannot expect him to work in such a state.

October 9, 1834

Just after finishing the previous entry, my pet was esscorted to my room by an assistant that was in charge of feeding the monsters. The effects of the drug had yet to wear off and he wanted to sleep near his master, as he put it. Being blind and deaf, no matter how temperary, must be terribly frightening. I fear that I might actually pitty the creature. The effects should last only a couple of days and I've let him stay in my room with no form of restraints (didn't even bother to lock the door when heading out to my office) as I highly doubt he'll be going anywhere. No, the most he moved was just enough to get himself tangled in the bed sheets. It's a good thing he couldn't hear as Mrs Harker was in immense pain from the mixture of the drugs. She could be heard screaming all the way out to the street! Litterally!

October 12, 1834

Mrs Harker's screaming caused such a fuss I just got through talking with the last of the inquisitive fools whom wanted to know wat the noise was. We were testing a new alarm system and it malfunctioned. The excuse satisfied the majority of them and I let my pet scare off the ones who would not leave well enough alone. He didn't ask questions and just had fun scaring them. It was quite amusing. I've given Alucard a few of his powers back for being so good. In any case, while they waited in the parlor Alucard played with them. I know this because they asked if the mansion was haunted and told me what gave them such a ridiculous idea. He made objects move seemingly by themselves, whispered things to them without showing himself laughing at their reactions (his laugh, no matter the cause, tends to sound quite evil and creepy.. I can imagine it's much worse when one cannot find the source) and other such things. Nothing harmful in the least.

October 13, 1834

Alucard is quite happy with the results thus far of XN-4.1, however, the full effect has yet to be seen.

October 15, 1834

Mrs Harker awoke this morning, still in pain. Thankfully her voice is gone from her screaming the other day.

October 16, 1834

I knew something was off. Alucard is most certianly planning something. As to what that something is I do not have the slightest.

October 17, 1834

Whatever my pet is planning has something to do with the garden. He seemed very upset when I asked for him to do something else instead of sunning today.

October 18, 1834

I do wish Alucard would stop finding loopholes in my orders. It gets quite annoying having to think of every possible loophole there may be as the 'don't try to find any loopholes' order doesn't seem to work. I've appointed a guard to keep an eye on him while he's out sunning and the beast has yet to do anything suspicious.

October 19, 1834

Mrs. Harker has finally calmed down. The drugs given to her work better together than they do apart. It should be just another week or so before she's back to her normal Human strength and her senses dulled to a human level. Still nothing with Alucard.

October 20, 1834

Still no extra side effects to GMV-6 as of yet. Received test results from the blood sample we'd taken from Alucard (Finally!) I've been too buisy to look at it yet. I'm going to take Alucard out for a small test to see if he's ready to start pulling his weight around here. There's been several reports of a nest of Vampires in an old, run down church on the Northern side of London. We'll see how he does in capturing them.

October 25, 1834

Started giving Alucard GA5-Hg905, a drug that in low doses helps them to become somewhat immune to silver and mercury, although it's quite painful and tends to make them sick, hardly able to keep anything, even the finest virgin blood down. He's receiving three times the normal doseage. The fool. This is his punishment for not following orders. I told the beast I wanted those Vampires alive, but he just had to go and find a loophole: Vampires aren't alive to begin with. So we only gained two new subjects instead of ten. Oh, he most certianly got a beating for that! And we have resumed his daily beatings. I don't care how damn good he is, I still enjoy hearing him scream and he's obviously not broken yet. I am determined to change that before the New Year's Gala where the Vatican wishes to see his progress. I believe they are expecting him to merely be obedient by then, but I will have him broken.

October 26, 1834

Even though he's begining to dry up from lack of blood, my pet continues to give me a hard time. He is being almost as stubborn as when he first arrived. Perhaps he thinks he's punishing me for making him take the new drug? Hah! What foolishness! I have finally gotten around to reading the results of his blood test and it is indeed that blood that makes him so different from the other Vampires.

October 27, 1834

Mrs Harker has fallen ill, she keeps throwing up every few hours. We've stopped her treatment for now.

October 28, 1834

Alucard has began to act strangely. I'm not sure when this started as I was too buisy with Mrs Harker to even check on him yesterday, but the guards did say that he was makeing some very strange noises yesterday. I'm begining to wonder if he knows Harker is here. He continues to stare at the wall in her direction and tries to get as close to it as he can, whining like a puppy and ocasionally howling. He completely ignores anyone that enters his cell including myself and refuses to touch his food. Speaking of food, Harker seems to be getting better (turning back to a Human, that is) as she has began asking for normal food and drink, but continues to drink the blood as well. She has not stoped throwing up, however.

October 29, 1834

Alucard began slamming himself against that wall he's been staring at as soon as he was released from his chains to be taken out for some sunning. We decided to just leeve him be, there were more important matters to attend to and he didn't seem to care about anything but that wall. He didn't even seem to notice when one of the assistants drew his blood. It was quite a spectical, really, after slaming into the wall a few times and crushing his shoulder doing so, he just sat and began loving on it and licking it. Last I checked he was asleep against it. That blood that was drawn from him will be used in some new experiments.

October 30, 1834

He killed an assistant today when he tried to pull the Vampire from the wall he's become so fond of. Several men tried to literally drag him out, but he sank his claws so deep into the stone that they were unable to do anything but tire themselves out and gave up after their friend was torn apart. I must be going now, it is almost All Hallow's Eve and there are many monsters about that we could use for some new experiments.

November 4, 1834

We managed to capture fourty-six Vampires for experimentation. Alucard continues to 'protect' his wall and howl as though he's in great pain. It is really begginning to get on my nerves. Mrs Harker, too, has yet to show any change in behavior. She continues to throw up every few hours, though a bit less frequently than before, and request Human food and drink with her blood.

November 5, 1834

Mrs Harker seems to be gaining a bit of weight. Not surprising with how much she's been eating. Alucard doesn't know she's here, he is just drawn to something in that direction. Perhaps because she is ill? He had to be chained up when let out to sun as he would not stop trying to run off toward Harker. There has been drastic improvements in the subject that was given his blood. He's become much stronger and faster. I have great hope for all the possibilities with this.
