Book 2 December 11 - December 31, 1834
December 11, 1834
We had a close call today. Alucard was found sniffing (litterally) around the basement under the East wing. We will have to keep a closer eye on him.
December 12, 1834
I've finally found out what the monster has been up to in the gardens. He's been tending to some rare plants; roses that bloom all year! I found this out while taking a walk while he was out sunning and saw the beautiful blossoms for myself. He was quite talkitive whilst tending to the plants.
They are native to his homelands and the flowers are different colors each season. White in the winter, pink in the spring, red in summer and yellow in autumn. They grow best where battles have been fought and the ground is soaked in blood. He told me that is one of the reasons for impaleing people in his gardens when he was known as Vlad Dracula Tepes or Vlad The Impaler, in Romania. It was the best way to 'water' the plants, he had told me. He also enjoyed watching the people die, but that was a given.
Well, I now have something else to use against him should he misbehave as he treats them like children and seems to regain his sanity for a short while when near the plants.
December 13, 1834
Found Alucard sitting on the floor, just staring at it, then realized he was directly above Mrs Harker's room. When I asked what he was doing, he said he didn't know. He never once took his eyes from that one spot on the floor, not until it was out of sight when I ordered him to return to his cell. He had his head turned around backwards to stare at it until he rounded a corner, then it spun back into place with a sickening sound. I fear he migh suspect something.
December 17, 1834
Exposed subject group C to several diseases to see if they can catch them.
December 18, 1834
Alucard keeps trying to go back to that spot he was at a few days ago, above Mrs Harker's room. He managed to get there once and I caught him trying to push his head through the floor to see what was down there. However, he could not get through the layers of silver and iron that make up the foundation of this mansion. It was quite a sight to see him with his head half-way through the floor.
Mrs Harker was in quite a bit of pain today. She accedentally cut herself while eating lunch. The blade of the knife was coated in silver, though the handle was ivory. Perhaps that is why he was so interested in finding what was below that floor?
December 21, 1834
Test subjects in group C apear to be immune to all the diseases but the Bubonic Plague. Many of them have already began to develop the boils associated with the disease.
Alucard has been given the task of decorating the mansion for Christmas but had to have another servant help him as he had never celebrated the holliday before.
December 22, 1834
I was surprised by my pet yet again. We had a visitor, King William himself! I was afraid he would mess this up, but was worried over nothing. I was hesitant to let His Highness into my office for fear of the mess of paperwork, but instead I found the room spotless, all of the paperwork filed away neatly and a vase with a few of the rare roses sitting on the corner of my desk. Thankfuly the vase was not glass, but porcelin so His Highness could not see that it was filled with blood and not water.
Not but a moment after we had taken our seats, Alucard came in with a tray of tea and crumpets. He kept his eyes and head down so our guest could not see the strange color of his eyes and was extremely respectful and polite. He acted almost Human! The King had no idea until I told him, as he was asking about my pet. Somehow he had heard that I had domesticated a Vampire and wanted to see for himself if it was true.
His Highness was worried, with good reason, about me having a pet Vampire that was let to roam the mansion without a leash, so we gave him a demonstration of just how well he followed orders. He exicuted every comand I gave him without hesitation, even when I ordered him to drink a glass of Holy Water! He winced slightly as he swallowed it and smoke made it's way out of his nose and mouth, but otherwise there was no problem. With such a good preformance, I even let His Highness know that it was him who had grown the roses in the dead of winter. He could hardly believe it, that a Monster could grow something so beautiful.
We talked all day, my pet sitting quietly most of the time by His Highness' chair, letting him pet him. The only time he got up was to follow a comand and to refill our tea.
His Highness has decided to knight me at the New Years' Gala!
December 24, 1834
Alucard has expressed his wishes to remain in his cell untill the Gala. He seems quite bitter about the hollidays. I had no choice but to grant him his wish as he was so good whilst the King was here. He can remain in his cell until the twenty-seventh, then he must resume his duities.
December 25, 1834
I went to check on my pet this morning before family arrived. He seems depressed but refuses to talk about it.
I finally got to see my grandson today! He's such a cute little fellow!
December 27, 1834
Alucard returned to work as promised but went back to his cell the moment his manditory work was complete.
December 28, 1834
Only a few more days until the Gala. Everyone is excited save for Alucard whom is still acting as though his best friend had just died. I wish he would stop that, it is really wearing on my nerves.
We all had ourselves a snow-ball fight. I had Alucard come out to join us, hoping he would cheer up a bit (sad, I know). He merely stood there like a bloody statue and let the children pumle him with snow-balls. He seemed to be in his own little world, completely blind to the world around him, although not deaf as he still followed orders.
December 29, 1834
I found the beast staring at my daughter today as she played with her children. He was mumbling something in another language, the only thing I caught was something that sounded like 'mother'... Mutter* I think it was. I could clearly see the want in his eyes as he watched her and stamped it out immediately. I will not have him even thinking of touching my family! I highly doubt he will be able to do anything tomorrow... Unfortunately, I will have to supply him with a fair amount of blood so he can attend the Gala now.
*Mutter is German for 'Mother'
December 31, 1834
Alucard has certianly learned his lesson. Every time any female member of the family comes by, he makes sure not to even look at them. Oh! I cannot wait for this evening! I only pray that my pet is on his best behavior tonight.
