Book 2 January 1 - January 22, 1835
January 1, 1835
Last night went very well. The only misshap was due to one of the children not wanting to go to sleep. He threw such a tantrum, but amazingly, Alucard was able to get him to settle down and go to bed. It took him a while to get the nerve to even go near the child. He must have feared that I would be angry if he was to get too close to any of the children or female guests (lest they came to him or it was an order).
Well, beginning today I am now Sir Abraham Von Hellsing! His Highness made good on his word to knight me durring the Gala.
January 2, 1835
My pet had fun taking down the decorations yesterday. He seemed to be in a very distructive mood as he had purpously let a few of the glass ornaments slip from his hand. He made sure to go back and clean it up, acting as though it were an accedent. I know it wasn't. I saw him contemplating it just before the first one fell. Thankfully they weren't the expensive ones. He tore the tree apart with a disturbing smile after it was hauled outside and did the same with most of the garland. It was as if he were trying to get revenge on the hollidays by destroying the decorations.
I honestly had no idea he was so good with children. One boy had a splinter in his foot from running out of his room this morning to play with his new toys. Alucard was able to get the boy to settle down and let me get the sliver of wood out when no one else could. Afterwords he polished the floors of that hallway and smoothed down the edges of the planks so there would be no more incedents with splinters. He is curently playing with the children whilst their parents make calls to their friends. They are playing 'Vampire hunters', Alucard, of corse, being the Vampire. I was worried at first, but not so much any more. He seems to really love children.
It is quite amusing to watch such little children taking down the big bad Vampire. He falls over 'dead' whenever he's hit in the head or heart by their wooden swords and arrows. The first time really scared me and had everyone running to see what had happend. The children actually thought the had killed him, then, when they were not expecting it, he sat up and grabbed up one of the children, causing them all to run screaming. I was about to yell at him when the girl started laughing. He was hunched over her, tickling her.
He scared us all yet again when he declaired her a Vampire. He merely helped her up and told her to run before the Hunters got her. Every time he captures one of the children, they become a 'Vampire' and run from the 'Hunters', and when a 'Vampire' is killed, save for Alucard, they become 'Hunters' again.
January 3, 1835
Alucard has made a game of cleaning with the children to keep them entertained while he does his chores. My daughter found him in her daughter's bed this morning. It seems the girl had a night-terror and he came to scare away the bad dreams, as she said. He apologised profusely for leaving his cell and getting near the children without permission, but my daughter insisted that he be rewarded for his 'good behavior' and for helping the girl sleep. I was informed that the girl had night-terrors on a regular basis and had not slept well in weeks until last night. I had noticed that she does not look too well.
January 4, 1835
The girl, indeed, had another night-terror last night and Alucard scared them away for her yet again. She is starting to look better already. She merely needs some rest.
The children are having so much fun and behaving so well. They are usually quite distructive and annoying little monsters. Everyone has agreed; it is a very welcome change.
January 5, 1835
The family left this morning. The children threw such a fit! They did not wish to leave their new 'friend' and fought tooth and nail to stay. Even Alucard could not get them to stop! They finally wore themselves out and were taken whilst they napped. Sara has been left in my care as she has seemingly came down with something. Alucard noticed that she was running a bit of a fever while he was scaring away her bad dreams yet again. My son insisted that she stay with the reasoning that I am a doctor and can take better care of her than he and his wife.
January 6, 1835
Mrs Harker is doing well, I pray for her and Jonathan that they have a very healthy baby.
Alucard refuses to leave Sara's side as her fever has worsend. He is taking very good care of her, treating her as though she were his own. He thinks it is the lack of sleep that aided in her falling ill.
January 8, 1835
He continues to stay by the girls' side, even more so now that her health continues to decline. Several of the servants have also fallen ill.
All of the subjects from test group C have died. The disease seems to progress very quickly in the undead. This may just be an effective wat to exterminate the filthy vermin.
January 9, 1835
I can't get Alucard to leave the girl's side for a moment, he abolutely refuses to leave and sends other servants to get things for the girl so he can continue to watch her. I need him to get back to work.
January 12, 1835
Dear God help me! I should have waited to do that experiment after they left! Sara is developing the boils as are many of the ill staff! I have ordered the mansion be shut down, no one is to go in or out. I will not be responsible for the Black Death's return.
January 18, 1835
Sara is hanging on by a mere thread and Alucard still refuses to leave the room. I just hope he doesn't get it as well, he is far too important to my research to die. I have had all of the ill staff moved to one side of the mansion, whilst the healthy ones stay on the other side. Hopefuly this will help keep it from spreading along with the thurough cleaning of the mansion.
January 19, 1835
Sara died last night. Alucard woke the entire mansion with his howeling the moment she was gone. I don't understand. Why is he mourning her death? Is it because she is of Hellsing blood? The witch said that the runes would make him become attached to his master and his decendants, but could that include all of the family, not just myself? Even so, he should not be this upset over it!
January 20, 1835
Alucard finally left the bloody room and took the girl's body to be burried in the garden. I insisted that he burn it, but he blatently refused. He dug the grave himself and planted his strange roses around it. He is still out there fussing over the bloody flowers.
January 21, 1835
I woke this morning to find the majority of the ill gone and a horrid stench filling the air. It seems after he finnished fussing over the girl's grave, he took it upon himself to burn the bodies that had began to pile up in the West wing. He asked me around noon, after he finnished disposing of the dead, if he should go ahead and get rid of the rest of those infected. I gave him permission, they were going to die anyway, why let them suffer? I truly wish it did not have to be this way. The ghastly screams of the servants as they were tossed into the fire still echo through my mind. God help me!
January 22, 1835
The entire mansion has been scrubbed from top to bottom, my pet made sure there was not a trace of the disease anywhere, even killing a few of the servants that remained and were trying to hide the boils. I asked him how he knew they were ill and he said he could smell it. XN-4.1 has improved his senses far beyond what I had hoped for. He still mourns the girl's death, however and spent the rest of the evening at her grave. He is still there now, playing with the flowers.
