Chapter One

The Ultimate Price

Everything was going terribly wrong. Kagome, Sango, Miroku and Sesshoumaru all knew that Kikyo was going to lead them into a horrible trap but they never knew the real severity of the trap beforehand. Kikyo had appeared before them a week beforehand and told them that she would show them where Naraku’s castle was. The group did not trust her and their mistrust was placed in everything that had happened before. Inuyasha, foolishly believing everything that came out of her cold, dead lips, had them follow her and that is what put her in this perilous situation.

Leading their group or mainly Inuyasha, to Naraku’s castle was only part of her plan. She wanted to see the look of betrayal and denial on Inuyasha’s face before he died and he was dragged to hell with her. He would learn that she wasn’t’ on his side at all and that would devastate him. Looking at Inuyasha, her soulless brown eyes had shown nothing of what was going to come next. Her hand reached up to the sky as her soul stealers wrapped around her body and she disappeared straight over Naraku’s castle. “Kikyo…” He whispered but then he growled as He smelled both Kanna’s and Kagura’s scent.

Kagura stepped out from the slightly open shoji screen and looked at the group with her hands crossed over her chest and her fan held open in her right hand. She stared at them wit her scarlet eyes and smirked. “So you’ve finally decided to grace us with your presence? Then Kikyo did do her job…” Inuyasha snarled. “What in the hell do you mean wind witch? Kikyo would never do anything for the likes of you!” She laughed heartily. “You just don’t know do you Inuyasha? You’re clueless! She’s deceived you.” She stilled and looked all around her as she felt Naraku’s presence.

“Yes…She’s been quite the little deceiver hasn’t she?” Naraku’s voice drawled. Naraku and Kikyo appeared on the eastern side of the courtyard. His arms were wrapped around her and she was pulled flush to his chest. Inuyasha was livid, he pulled the Tetsusaiga halfway out of its sheath and he cursed when he saw that it didn’t transform.

“Inuyasha look! She’s not fighting him, she’s in line with him!” Kagome readied her bow and knocked an arrow. “You are a disgrace to be a miko Kikyo. I have received dreams of what you’ve done and all that I can say is I’m disgusted.” Kikyo glared icily at her and readied her bow as well.

“I’m a disgrace reincarnation? I would take a look at yourself. You weren’t even trained as a true miko.” Shooting an arrow towards Kagome’s heart, Kikyo smirked as she saw that she didn’t make any move to deflect it. Kagome brought her bow up and it glowed a bright pink but it didn’t deflect all of the negative energy that Kikyo had put into the hamaya. Sesshoumaru jumped in front of her and sliced the arrow in half with his Tokijin. Looking at her, his eyes checked her form. “I will take Naraku, you will take the dead miko bitch.” His cold emotionless voice said and his attention snapped back to Naraku in a matter of seconds. Kagome smiled at him and nodded. “Arigato aniki.”

Naraku smirked at Sesshoumaru. “So you’re going to fight me alone, the mighty lord of the west? Lets see how long you last…” Tentacles shot towards Sesshoumaru and he kept slicing at them with his Tokijin. “You know, that sword was made from one of my creative incarnations…” The Tokijin pulsed and it flew out of his had. Sesshoumaru growled. He wouldn’t let Naraku use his own sword against him so he destroyed it with his poison whip and his dokkasou concurrently. It cracked and then shattered in a shower of bits and pieces.

He cursed inwardly and ran towards Naraku with blinding speed. His whip out, ready to attack, he attacked his neck and the whip wrapped around, and as it continued to choke him, his head was decapitated from his body, with blood spewing from his neck. “The real one?” He said softly as he brought his whip back to him. Naraku’s body still stood where it was but his head was motionless. His brain was dead, but with the jewel shards, his body would stay rooted to the spot and attack anything.

“The taiyoukai isn’t here to protect you from me reincarnation. What are you going to do now?” Kikyo stated and stared at her with an impassive expression. Kagome glared fiercely at her and gripped her bow tightly. “I don’t need him to defeat you Kikyo, you’re nothing compared to me!” Kikyo shot an arrow then, her normal emotionless eyes alight with hatred and jealousy. “We shall see reincarnation!” she smirked contentedly as she saw the hamaya streaking towards her with breakneck speed.

Kagome’s eyes were determined as her whole body was covered in a bright pink aura. “I will not let the likes of you destroy my hopes of living Kikyo! You have tried to kill me long enough! It’s time to end this!” The hamaya came in contact with her barrier and dissolved, her eyes glowed a bright blue as her power increased and she glared at her incarnation with intense hatred that was evident in the power that swirled around her. Her bow, glowing both blue and pink indicating her miko and part of her powers that she inherited when she was adopted by Sesshoumaru.

“You wench! I can’t believe it! You’re a fledgling miko with youkai powers as well!” She vented and her miko robes billowed around her as the last bit of her power was used to shield her. Kagome silenced her then. “Never question my powers or my aniki!” She roared and released the arrow that she was pointing toward Kikyo. The arrow tore through her weak barrier and went straight through where her heart would be, her body turned to dust and as she did, she cried out in pain. Her remains scattered in the wind and Kagome sighed in relief.

She jumped as a tentacle hit her barrier, but it purified quickly. “What in the hell is going on? That was one of Naraku’s tentacles but that was totally random…” Her head shot up and towards where Sango and Miroku were fighting Kagura and Kanna. Sango was crying in agony and Miroku was lying on the ground, bloodied, the blows from Kagura’s dance of blades had ripped his body in dozens of places. His Kazanna was the way it normally was, but his face was ashen and pale. Death had finally taken it’s toll on him and Sango was grieving him in her own way, but with how sudden it came upon her, she was crying all of her love, her sadness, and her bottled up emotions for him.

Kagura smiled cruelly and lifted her fan as she stared at the two lovers. “I hope that you rest together, IN HELL!” she threw her fan down in a slashing motion and whispered “Dance of Blades.” The wind blades raced towards Sango and the corpse of Miroku and she took her fate in stride. She could have fought back, but she wanted to be with her beloved Miroku. Flying back with the force of the impact, she crashed into a tree and groaned painfully as the tree cracked. It fell the opposite way, but she was already gravely hurt. Her neck was spurting out blood and her body was going into convulsions as she lost more blood. Kagome was at her side in an instant when she figured out what in the hell was going on. Gently, she lifted her sister’s head up into her lap and placed pressure on the wound on her neck, just to keep her alive a little bit longer. “Sango-aneue…don’t leave me…” Hot tears ran down her face and Kagome looked at the broken and battered Sango, struggling for breath. “Don’t Kagome-chan. I wanted to be with Miroku, let me die. I will die knowing that I will meet him in the next life.” Her cinnamon eyes closed for the final time and her head fell back. “Sango-chan…” She whispered in anguish.

Setting her down so that she could deal with what was left, Kagome turned to Kagura and Kanna. “I thought that you were at least decent youkai, but you’re just scum. You don’t deserve to love for what you’ve done!” She shouted and as she turned to them with tears I her eyes. “They were like family to me and you’re going to pay for taking them from me!” Her hands were quick as she pulled two arrows out of her quiver and fired them straight at Kanna and Kagura. They had no time to dodge the attack, and they were struck, dead center in the heart. Kagome spared no look towards their remains and walked swiftly towards the decapitated head of Naraku. She glared at it and shot one of her arrows at it, just so the body couldn’t put it back on.

Sesshoumaru looked back at her with a little bit of surprise in his gaze. “What are you doing here Kagome?” She shook her head. “Not now aniki, we have to deal with this abomination first…” Inuyasha came rushing towards Naraku’s body with the Tetsusaiga in his hands. “Die Naraku!” He shouted as he jumped in the air. He was stopped short as a multitude of tentacles pierced his body and the major blow was that one of them had pierced his heart. Pulling out of his body, Inuyasha lied on the ground like a cold, lifeless doll with blood pooled around him. Kagome’s eyes flashed bright silver in rage as she stared at what was left of Naraku. Silver waves of energy flared around her dangerously and Sesshoumaru had to move back in fear of being purified. With every step, her anger and grief was poured into her powers and they flared as they destroyed the tentacles that were shooting towards her. Coming within feet of Naraku she shot him straight in the heart and the huge chunk of the tainted jewel shard that he had fell down to the ground as he disappeared and the human called Onigumo appeared in his place.

Breathing shallow breaths as he stared wordlessly at the sky, his last thought was of Kikyo as he passed away.

The sacred jewel rolled to Kagome’s feet and she picked it up, it purified instantly at her touch. Placing it with the chunk of shards that they’ve collected, they didn’t have much to collect now. “Sesshou…Why? They’re all gone…” He was silent as he placed a clawed hand on her shoulder. “They were protecting each other and you. They died honorably.” tears ran down her face. “They still shouldn’t have died!” They had everything ahead of them!”

Kagome looked to the sky and as she did, her body began to glow a translucent blue and she began to fade. “What’s happening to you Kagome?” Sesshoumaru had actual worry in his voice this time. Kagome looked at him with confusion. “What do you mean Sesshou?” He pointed at her. “Look at yourself. You’re fading.” She looked down and gasped. I thought that this might happen when I finished the Shikon Jewel but now? Iie! I don’t want to leave you!!! Sesshou! I’ll be at the Higurashi Shrine 500 years from now find me there…” She disappeared and Sesshoumaru was left alone, with the corpses of the Inu-Tachi group.

She blinked as she noticed that she wasn’t in front of her shrine, but in front of her best friend’s house. She could tell him almost anything but with everything that has been going on lately, she hasn’t seen him in a while. She knocked on the door and a red headed boy with crimson eyes answered. “Kagome? What are you doing here?” He asked with shock and surprise.

Dark, from Daisuke’s eyes looked her over and nodded in acceptance. “She’s pretty…I wonder if she knows about me?” Daisuke scolded him internally. “Shut up Dark! I haven’t seen her since a couple of days before my fourteenth birthday and she’s been so sick that she’s missed a lot of school!”

Kagome fainted from exhaustion and Daisuke caught her in surprise. “Daisuke..” She whispered as she snuggled into his embrace.
