InuYasha Fan Fiction / Fan Fiction ❯ Braving Mystical Worlds ❯ Chapter 1: Frenzy ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Disclaimer: I can try to claim the concept and creation of the Xmen or Inuyasha - but then, I'd be knee deep in doggie-do or flung to another dimension, so just to clarify, NO!!! They aren't mine, but give it a year or two. Or not.

Braving MysticalWorlds: Chapter 1: Frenzy

A/N: I'm trying something a little new and different, so please be patient. While reading, if anyone has any suggestions lend me your ideas and I will lend my ears and attempt to put them to good creative use and then give you credit for the idea(s). I see lots of good YuYu-Inu crossovers, even though I'm not familiar with one of the story lines *ahem-yuyu*, but nevertheless feel inspired to crossover some of my own favorites.

For lovers of my To Perish series and Calling Your Name song-fic, NO, this won't be written in my favorite style using multiple points of view, so go ahead and breathe. It would take wa-a-a-y too long to write both fics, for one, especially since my heart's with To Perish right now. This should be a bit of an easier read without the amount of angst, seriousness, and super-sleuthing under laying it (though there will be, no doubt, some). There isn't a lot of symbolism in this fic…just fun and new adventures for all our heroes and heroines. This might come across a bit shaky at the beginning, but after I've become accustomed to switching my writing style gears then perhaps there will be smooth sailing waters.

Also, since I know that it will be a shaky beginning, count on an update in the future for my first chapter or so. An upgrade in rating is yet to be determined at this infantile stage of the game. As for spoilers…I haven't decided yet. I have lots of ideas still in the works.

Anyone who would like to beta read, please let me know, so we can schedule and arrange terms/specifications preferred. I'm looking for two or three dedicated betas, so please apply through a review. Then, we'll take it from there. I'm looking for at least one volunteer before the release of chapter 2, so please consider!!!

By the way, I've never written any thing remotely humorous before, so this is a first at trying my hand with something relatively light-hearted, but of a large magnitude. I'm relying on you, dear ones, to catch missing details and ask a million questions…oh yeah, and keep me focused. This is an attempt to stretch my abilities and race for the challenge. Yes it's a bit AU, playing off a bit of each Canon, but I just couldn't help myself with this!

Also, if ya' wanna flame me for the situations and pairings, that's quite okay, but at least take the time to envision and imagine the possibilities - even if and when the ideas spin out of control!

That said, my dear readers, introducing Braving Mystical Worlds!

"Eh! Kagome help!"

Rolling coffee-brown eyes, Kagome sidestepped the friendly banter that had ensued within arm's reach of her. She knew the results their jousting would bring about…tears, raised voices, eventually an unfriendly argument - an infinite cycle of predictable near violent behavior.

Shippo and Inuyasha chased each other wildly around the clearing for an advantage over the other - by what ever means possible. Apparently Shippo achieved some worthy incident of Inuyasha's praise and reprimand. Their squabbles were never ending, but entertaining to say the least, when ever they didn't insult or injure each other…or come to think of it, steal food from each other.

Inevitably, laughter filled her gut as her larking rippled through the hushed forest and cleansed away the wretchedness of the week's dark hysteria and mourning. Clutching her hands to her abdomen, she willed away the on-slaught of side stitches that threatened to seize her body's control. She was back to her self again.

A light breeze carried her laughter to the ears of her protector and small friend. As though queued, half demon and full demon silenced themselves. Some unspoken language occurred and to her surprised chagrin, their focal point suddenly altered from each other mid-repartee to her. Startled as they grinned like two mischievous school boys, she backed up and spun in the grass on her heels to avoid their concentrated gazes.

"What the…?" Her nerves nearly unraveled at the abrupt agreement of sorts that had just resulted barely escaping her observation.

As she glanced back over her shoulder, she finally surmised that their motivations shifted as their allied silence seemed to conceal some elaborate plot directed against her person.

Her awareness of their intent, at long last, caused her to break into a run while giggling toward the Bone-Eater's well.

Inuyasha, smirking, very nearly cackled as Kagome fled towards the forest line. Nudging Shippo as she responded to their game he winked.

"Guess she figured us out, eh, knuckle head?"

"Just remember Inuyasha, you pin her down while I take her on."

Narrowing humor-filled eyes he counted to twenty, eyes closed, while Shippo, who licked his lips with glee, climbed his left shoulder before they gave chase.

"This way, guys."

Grandpa Higurishi calmly guided their peculiar group of visitors past the family residence through the landscaped bonsai filled courtyard to the shrine for a tour and to be educate this body of students on the historical significance of the grounds.

Of course, nobody present was aware of Kagome's secret and the time slip through the ancient well, but a briefly spoken story of legends and myths, demons and samurais held this audience truly mesmerized and captivated - with exhilaration rolling from them in waves. Excitement evidenced by noisy whispers and attentive inquisitiveness encouraged the old priest to indulge their curiosity.

Wondering at her guests sincere awed fascination, Mama Higurishi swore she witnessed one of the older children disappear in a puff of smoke and reappear else where as dark blue fuzzy creature with clawed hands and a barbed tail.

Shaking her head in wonderment to free her self of such an absurdity that the teenager could possibly be an unidentified demon from an extinct lineage, she gathered her wits and her most friendly smile setting out to make tea per special request - with lemon, sugar and ice.

Her thought mulled around as she considered the possibilities. While she wasn't even slightly fazed by Inuyasha and his Tesseiga, there seemed to be peculiarities beyond the realm of norm surrounding the entire tour group's responses to each other.

She stirred the drinks and glanced out the kitchen window just in time to see the fuzzy blue kid staring at her through the window pane.

"Agh! My goodness - you scared me!" Nearly dropping the tray of filled teacups she proceeded as though the occurrence were natural.

"You want some help?" He asked.

Being that even while speaking Japanese he sounded polite, Mama Higurishi decided not to judge his obscure appearance and to treat him equally as an honored guest in her home while they visited.

"Sure, why not." After handing him the tray of ice cold tea and ensuring he had a good grip, she quickly wiped her brow and carried the snack tray to his companions.

"You should have seen the look on your face!"

Shippo squealed pointing his finger at Kagome. The kitsune was still curled up in a fit of uncontrolled snickers - at her expense, mind you - while she was temporarily disorientated from her `attackers'.

"You guys have a lot of nerve picking on a girl like that!"

She brushed off her grass stained skirt and stood, hands resting on hips, daring Inuyasha to advance on her again.

"Hey, calm down. It was only in good fun."

He thought she had an unbearable temper before he worked the nerve to tickle her in fun. Once more, he was the fool and upset her beyond fierce reprisal.

"You - you defend that?"

Nodding his head self assuredly, he certainly didn't expect her next reaction.

"Sit boy."

Slamming into the ground, he murmured a harsh complaint and nearly cursed at her unfounded anger - in his mind at least. Sometimes, he thought, she was irrational. After all, their game had affectionately good intentions.

Finally released from the rosary's spell, he sat up, prepared to make a snide comeback when Kagome stilled her footsteps.

"Shards"

Sniffing the air, he silently groaned. The scent that permeated the air only confirmed her perceptions and reinforced his renewed fighting spirit.

"That wolf again"

The energized whirl of flurried wind sped past him within Kagome's reach.

"Good afternoon, Kagome"

Kouga sensed the ferocious argument in-progress between the two and attempted to redirect Kagome's attention - even if momentarily - away from his arch rival. He never knew how they could stew over such petty things so habitually. Normally, it would have been a nuisance; however, his patience was long suffering today. To some extent, he ignored the rants of his companions, Ginta and Hakakku, and hugged Kagome the way a gentleman and sweet heart would.

Knowing the embrace wouldn't be long-lasting, he expressed his concern for her welfare. Well, it was well enough to let sleeping dogs lie, but a certain half-breed wouldn't let them be…

"Hey ya' mangy wolf - keep your filthy hands to your self!"

Shouting back a threat, he looked into the future girl's eyes.

"Yo, Kagome…where you off to?"

Feeling guilty accepting the warm affections of the famed wolf demon, she shirked back with a sun-drenched smile plastered to her face. Her heart almost always sped up when he acted rather forthcoming to advance on her. Even though she didn't think Kouga was her type of guy, it was embarrassing that her friend loudly proclaimed his undying faith, love and loyalty to her.

Kicking her shoe into the ground, she finally found her voice.

"Umm…home?"

She looked hopefully to Inuyasha, trying kindly to replace else where Kouga's hands. All the testosterone was getting to her. Besides, she reasoned, a break was deserved.

-Japan-Modern Era-

"Come on Kitty…you're so slow today. What gives?"

If that wasn't a loaded question, she didn't know what was. Sure, the summer trip to Japan was a good idea. As a matter of fact, it was great! She would get to practice her Japanese fluently, study history, and take a rockin' senior vacation all twisted into one long excursion! The only thing holding her back from fully enjoying this newly discovered freedom was the nagging sensation in the back of her mind.

"I just don't know if this is such a good idea, guys"

Smacking her self for her own idiocy, she tagged along beside Rogue and her selfish almost boyfriend, Lance. Not wanting to upset him and set off his temper, Kitty silently followed Kurt's lead.

Earlier, Kurt deemed it necessary to get familiar with the shrine and took a snoop around the Higurishi's home.

Truthfully, she was startled to witness his extraordinary anticipation when the old priest gave ancient accounts life and meaning invigorated through his animated story telling. Kurt eventually settled down and assisted the shrine keeper's daughter, they were told, with refreshments. Really, she almost wondered if there was a way to put a clamp on his transporter powers. Fuzzy blue creatures that popped out of nowhere particular seemed legitimately scary for most any sane person.

Heaving a sigh they finally arrived at Rogue and Kurt's latest puzzlement. Finally speaking through the silence, Rogue touched the shoji doors to the hidden well house, afraid with the odd notion that she might poison it.

"Wonder what's in here"

"I can go take a look" Kurt suggested.

"No way! You'll attract too much attention!" Lance gripped his lower arm.

"Hey! Let go! Let…"

"Boys" Rogue waved her hand to silence her friends.

Turning to Kitty with triumph expressed in the depths of her hazel eyes, she gestured, dissolving the disagreement painlessly with minor damage to the males' wounded egos.

"We're all going. Kurt you take her left hand and…"

He could never quite reign in his temper when it came to other males touching or being near his girlfriend. The ground briefly quaked as he wielded his power inwardly. Everyone was still standing, so he momentarily forgot his strength and its destructive force.

"Rogue, take off your gloves and bump into him - accidentally, of course."

Kitty displayed her disdain by turning her back to his view. If he wanted back into her good graces, he'd need to make some sort of peace offering before the end of the day.

Sighing, he held his hand to her shoulder while Rogue hooked an arm through her own.

He always had to remember to keep walking when she phased through solid objects, otherwise, it was a bad situation.

They were inside the well house, at last, to discover what they could.

"Looks dark and uninteresting to me, if I do say so my self"

"Kurt, you're, like, just totally scared"

Placing his fingers gently to Kitty's mouth, Lance hushed her with his own whisper.

"Lower your voice"

His rough exterior and raw irritability betrayed even him self when he was near the girl. In his mind, she was damned cute. He shouldn't have been thinking such audacious thoughts, but couldn't help admire her stealth. It was always a thrill to have her in his arms one way or another, but he would consider how to lure her back to him - one way or another, he determined.

"Hey, what's this big hole in the ground?"

Rogue had walked to the Bone-Eater's well peering inside, her curiosity roused. Taking the stairs, she made her way to the bottom, Kurt in tow.

"Looks pretty old to me"

She was nervous looking at the old wood and depths of the well filled with what appeared to be bone, he knew. Speaking up, he finally let his opinion be heard.

"I think you should come down and check it out"

"You sure Kurt?"

"Now Kitty, would I lie?"

Leaning down to whisper in privacy, Lance pushed a stray lock of her hair behind her ear.

"Don't worry, if anything happens, I'll protect you"

"Right…"

Making their way down the stairs, Kitty couldn't remember what the old man said about the ancient well - or was that simply her imagination? She almost swore there was a story about a Shikon some thing or other…even though she was clueless to what that meant.

"Hey Kitty"

Here it came…Kurt's inevitable question. Wincing in politeness, she prepared her self for the question.

"Can you phase us through?"

"Like, to where?"

"Didn't think about that - did you, moron?"

"Lance"

Cringing, he pulled his arm around his girlfriend's waist.

"So, can you?"

Kurt was damned persistent today…what was it - was the full moon coming out tonight or something? Of course, she her self was rather impatient, nearly demanding in the thick of silence the kind of secrets the shrine boasted. It was mighty tempting to take Kitty up on the offer of taking her gloves off and throttling both of the guys. They were quite the pains.

"Well, everyone, hang on…I'm going to try"

Putting all her efforts into phasing through the well, she concentrated as she lightened and the grips of her friends tightened around her limbs. She had done it hundreds of times since attending Xavier's Institute, so she didn't ever have cause to worry.

She had briefly shut her eyes to center her power flowing into her legs. When she felt the familiar tug, she opened them back up only to find that they were floating in some hazy purple and black magical dream world.
