Chapter 1: What Happened?

Kagome looked strangely at Inuyasha. `What just happened?' she thought. Inuyasha turned around slowly, with his silver hair covering his face, and had realized what he did. The day had a gentle breeze and the sun was shining brightly. Both of them were in a complete state of shock, but someone followed closely, yet they were unaware staring into the eyes of one another. Kagome thought for a minute and then played these past events in her eyes.

"Sango I know this is hard to believe, but yes it is true, your brother, Kohaku has died to Inuyasha, but it wasn't his fault!" replied a compassionate Kagome.

"Kagome, I will never forgive Inuyasha for what he has done. How can I live knowing it was my ally that had slain my brother." Replied Sango melancholically. "I must avenge Kohaku's death, Inuyasha will pay for this!"

Ever since Miroku's death, Sango, Kagome, and Inuyasha have had to cope with it, sad as it may be. He sacrificed his life to destroy Naraku once and for all. The Shikon no Tama hadn't been completed yet and shortly after, Kohaku unexpectedly showed up with one of the 3 remaining jewel shards left in his back. Inuyasha was forced to fight Kohaku for he threatened Kagome's life. When the Tetsusaiga was forced out of the hands of Inuyasha, his blood turned to that of a full demon. He had slain him heartlessly and mercilessly. Sango burning with anger ran back to her village, with her hatred of Inuyasha filling within her.

"Although Kohaku showed a burning evilness within him and Inuyasha's demonic powers had been released, he was still my brother. I saw my comrades slain, but now my own flesh and blood, my own brother by that bastard Inuyasha!" Sango replied talking to herself while running to the village.

Kagome frighteningly looked up at Inuyasha who had taken the demonic jewel shard and fused it with the other pieces. Kagome was worried for Sango who ran back to her village to hone her skills against the tetsusaiga.

~~~~~ Meanwhile at Naraku's Castle (Under Sesshomaru's Control) ~~~~~

"Jaken, have you pinpointed Inuyasha's location?" asked Sesshomaru.

"No my lord, I'm looking as we speak." Replied Jaken who was being disturbed Rin's running around. "Rin will you stop it!"

"Rin go and make yourself useful." Shesshomaru ordered while awaiting Jaken to finish.

"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru." Replied Rin

"Although my power is stronger than Inuyasha's, I must heighten my power by obtaining the fragment of the Shikon no Tama he has. His bakuryaha might pose a threat against my demonic power." Sesshomaru was thinking out loud.

"My lord I have found Inuyasha's location!" exclaimed Jaken.

"Where is he?" asked Sesshomaru.

"He is near the village of that demon exterminator girl." Jaken answered.

"Good then let's go pay Inuyasha a visit."

Sango decided she was ready to fight Inuyasha and came to confront him. For a moment she doubted herself, but thought of her slain brother and her only thought was to avenge his death. She finally reached Inuyasha and wanted to surprise him to get an advantage.

"Hirakos!" yelled Sango as she threw her large boomerang at Inuyasha. Surprised, he got hit and fell nearly unconscious to the ground. "Yes, direct hit!"

"I know your bitter about me slaying Kohaku, but I didn't purposely do it!" yelled an angry Inuyasha.

"Yes I am aware, but it was your hands that were stained with his blood, how can I forgive you when it was YOU who killed him right in front of my eyes!"

"Well than I guess I have no choice, Wind Scar!" Inuyasha took the Tetsusaiga and with great speed slashed it down to the ground, yet Sango swiftly avoided it and jumped unto a nearby building nearly losing her balance. "Not bad, I'll give you that, but just you wait!"

"Inuyasha, no! Sango is our friend, how could you even think about slaying her and Sango although yes it was Inuyasha who killed your brother, he didn't wanna do it, he was protecting me and I know you could understand how protective Inuyasha gets when my life is threatened so stop the fighting!" yelled Kagome.

Sango once again threw her boomerang and Inuyasha also tried his wind scar once again, but Kagome used her sacred arrow and negated both of their attacks. She knew she shouldn't interfere, but this was a battle to the death and she couldn't accept losing anyone else, after losing Miroku to that bastard Naraku.

"Sango, you know our quest was originally to complete the Shikon no Tama. You realized that even though that jewel shard in Kohaku's back was keeping him alive, we needed to take it anyway. Besides he could've died even with the jewel shard in his back without Inuyasha having to do anything! You know as well as anyone else that nobody lives forever, and Kohaku is no exception. If you couldn't accept his death then, then how will you accept his death in the future? Stop all the fighting!" Kagome screamed with such anger that she unknowingly released a burst of sacred energy that formed energy barriers around the two. It had appeared that her sacred energy had tapped into her subconscious. Sango felt remorse for her ignorance and profusely apologized to Inuyasha who ordered Kagome to remove the barrier and remove it she did.

"Sango I accept your apology. Although I cannot understand the intense pain you're undergoing, I feel remorseful for even attempting to kill you." Inuyasha replied with a sad look on his face.

As they were walking past the broken tarmac floors and destroyed rubble of the village Sesshomaru appeared and knocked out Sango instantly with his claws. He then grabbed Kagome and threatened to take her life if Inuyasha hadn't given him their retrieved jewel shards.

"Inuyasha give me the jewel shards, or else your precious Kagome will feel the wrath of my poison claw blast!" exclaimed Sesshomaru.

"Inuyasha don't give them to him. Resist and fight!" shouted Kagome.

"You wretched girl, you would sacrifice your own life for the sake of Inuyasha? Well feel the pain of my poison claw blast!" Sesshomaru raised his claws as a greenish-purple light engulfed his claws.

"Don't you dare lay a finger on Kagome, Backlash wave!" He grabbed the energy of Sesshomaru's poison claw blast and reflected it back with the power of the wind scar. Yet the power of the Tenseiga protected Sesshomaru yet again and he escaped with his life barely in tact. For a second time, Inuyasha had made his older brother Sesshomaru tremble with fear and he returned to Naraku's castle plotting of a way to destroy Inuyasha.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Naraku's Castle ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I've got an idea to rid of that wretched Inuyasha and obtain the jewel fragments once and for all!" exclaimed Sesshomaru.

"What is your ultimately devious plan my lord?" asked Jaken inquiringly.

"So glad you asked Jaken, I plan to revive Kikyo and use her as my spy. Because it is me reviving her, she must obey the commands I give her. She will steal the fragments from Kagome and Inuyasha as she did once before." Sesshomaru answered.

"My lord that plan is perfect, and Inuyasha still feels compassion towards Kikyo and would never think of killing her, excellent we'll finally be rid of Inuyasha!" exclaimed Jaken.

"My thoughts exactly, now go and run off with Rin." Sesshomaru ordered.

"Yes my lord!" Jaken nodded and ran off to do as his master ordered.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inuyasha and Kagome ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kagome shocked of the near death experience nearly fainted. Inuyasha who was terribly worried for Kagome had run to her and embraced her tightly.

`What is he doing' thought Kagome.

"Kagome, I could never think of losing you to my bastard brother Sesshomaru! I shutter to think of what could've happened if I hadn't channeled his energy." Inuyasha replied.

Inuyasha stared into Kagome's eyes and detected a sense of fright. He moved closer and closer with Kagome's sense of fright increasing, but eventually his lips touched hers. Kagome was so shocked but then felt a sense of relief over her, maybe because she knew she had Inuyasha here to protect her. Inuyasha moved away slowly and Kagome tried to stand up.

"Inuyasha, I thought you had sworn to protect Kikyo. There is no room in your heart for me. You had embraced Kikyo that day and had sworn to protect her."

"Kagome, as I travel with you and get to know you better with each passing day, I realize that Kikyo's death would be inevitable, and thus my power would be wasted. I have realized that you are the only one I can protect and love, Kikyo is out of my life!" Inuyasha exclaimed.

They both remained in a state of shock as Kagome stooped to the ground.

`Inuyasha is making declarations of love to me? How is that possible? Am I going to get my first boyfriend here, in the Sengoku Jidai?' Kagome thought to herself.

This was too much for her to bear and after a moments passed she fainted from lack of power. After a few hours, she awoke and Inuyasha was standing there, right by her side.
