CHAPTER 2
Harry laughed heartily.
"Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hey Yuki, um what exactly are you?'
Yuki, who had been digging through his school trunk, gave a small yell of victory and stood up holding a box of Berty Botts Every Flavored Beans (tell me if I got that name right, its been a while since I read HP). She popped a blue one in her mouth and sighed in contentment before looking over her shoulder and asking.
"What now?"
Harry smiled warmly.
"I don't mean to be rude, but what are you?"
Yuki tossed a red bean into the air, caught it expertly, then nonchalantly answered.
"Neko-Youkai."
Harry gave her a blank stare. Yuki looked at him while placing a green bean on her tongue. She rolled her eyes then translated.
"Cat demon."
Harry clutched his chest and took an involuntary step backwards.
"D-demon? Please tell me you're joking. There is no such thing as demons."
Yuki snorted over a mouthful of black jellybeans.
"You've lived a sheltered live. I am a cat demon from the Shadow Clan, a bunch of murderers and thieves who are highly respected in demon society. We have the strongest magic too."
She nodded and turned away from his sputtering form.
"You're a demon?"
At her exasperated nod he continued.
"How am I going to explain this to Dumbledoor?"
Yuki ignored his question and moved towards the door.
"Hey! You can't go out there! What if they see you!?"
Yuki looked at him over her shoulder and shrugged.
"I don't care."
Harry's face fell.
"Just wait until Ron gets here please, then we can go to Grimuald place"
Yuki let out a long-suffering sigh.
"Fine. Who is this Rob guy?"
Harry smiled and corrected her gently.
"That's Ron, and he is one of my best friends. He goes to Hogwart's with me. He is really tall and has red…"
Harry watched, fascinated, as she started poking at Hedgewig (that's his owl right?).
"Hey! Stop that! What are you trying to do?"
Yuki looked at him over her shoulder for what felt like the millionth time since she met him. She popped a multicolored bean in her mouth and answered.
"I'm hungry."
Harry's eyes widened in realization.
"There is no eating pets!"
Yuki shrugged and turned away. Suddenly there was a faint scream downstairs. Harry jumped to his feet and rushed to the door only to find it open. He looked around the room and was surprised to find that Yuki was missing. He cursed mentally and followed her downstairs, prying that Ron didn't overreact.
He reached the bottom of the stairs when he heard a muffled scream. He turned the corner and almost laughed at the scene that greeted him. Aunt Petunia was hiding behind Dudley who was hiding behind Vernon who was hiding behind the couch with Ron standing in front of them, wand raised, quaking in fear. Yuki was poking around the fireplace and talking to herself in Japanese. Harry let out a sigh of relief and stood between Ron and the errant demon.
"Ron its ok, this is my…uh…my friend Yuki. Yuki this is Ron, the one I told you about."
Yuki looked up from the ashes she was examining and let her gaze stray from Harry to Ron.
"Wow, that's great." Then as she was going back to the ashes she mumbled. "Baka Ningens." Ron glared at her back and slowly lowered his wand.
"Alright Harry, let's go."

Harry looked down at his shoes and mumbled under his breath. Ron gave him a weird look.
"What was that"
"I said, she is coming with us."
Ron took a large step back and turned pale.
"What? You mean that that…that thing is going to spend a month with us?"
Yuki growled and stalked towards them.
"What was that ningen?"
Ron swallowed and grabbed his wand. Harry and he had been whispering, she shouldn't have been bale to hear them. Then again her ears where huge, maybe they where for more than show.
" I-I um, well…I"
"You figured I wouldn't hear you." She finished for him. Her voice was practically dripping with malice. Ron swallowed loudly and laughed nervously.
Yuki growled and bared her pearly fangs.
"I'm sure you're in good hands Harry, I'll come to you when you go to that school thing."
Still growling, she stalked out the front door and slammed it causing the ceiling to crumble and the door to crack. Harry winced and pushed Ron though the fireplace.
"Lets go."
The next month was spent peacefully at Harry's late godfather's estate. By the time September 1st rolled around he had completely forgotten about the cat demon assigned to protect him, and her promise to reunite.
***********
"Harry! Lets go!"
Hermione (sp?) called from where she was standing next to the train. Harry nodded absently. Something was nagging at the back of his mind, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Harry ran to catch up to them.
"Lets find a booth."
Ron and Hermione nodded and walked onto the train. They found an empty booth without any trouble. After about five minutes of pleasant conversation the door was flung open revealing a short figure in a large black coat and hat. There was a rumbling sound coming from somewhere in it's general direction.
"You could have told me I couldn't teleport! I almost missed the fucking train!"
Ron and Hermione stared at the figure in confusion while Harry clutched at his chest and was trying to breath.
"Y-yuki?"
Ron's face drained of all color when Harry rasped out the name. It got even paler when he heard her response.
"Of course its me, baka ningen. Who else is forced to follow you around? Don't tell me you have human slaves too."
Hermione snorted and elbowed Ron expecting him so share her merriment, when she turned to look at him she adopted a worried expression. Ron was sitting in his chair, back ridged; knuckles white from his grip on the arm rests. Harry laughed nervously and turned to Hermione.

"Um, Hermione, this is my protector Yuki."
Yuki strode past him, still swathed in black, and stood in front of the girl.
"I am Yuki Neko, the #1 thief and assassin known to demon-kind."
Hermione stared at her with wide, frightened eyes.
"You're a demon? I thought they where wiped out over five hundred years ago."
Yuki snorted and took off her coat.
"Cha' right. Like we'd be destroyed by one stupid miko bitch and that hanyou scum."
Hermione had that weird glint in her eye, the one that said she suspected something big was happening and they weren't in the loop. Harry gulped and tried to change the subject.
"So where have you been all this time Yuki?"
"Well ningen, that's none of your god-damned business."
Her tone was coated in false sweetness. Ron flinched and spoke for the first time since Yuki arrived.
"What are you going to tell Dumbledoor?"
Harry paled and gripped his seat much as Ron had moments before.
"I'd forgotten.'

Yuki sighed as she eased her long ears out of the confines of the hat.
"I don't know how you ningens can wear these things, they're so uncomfortable."
Hermione glanced at her from the corner of her eye.
"Ningen. You keep saying that word. What does it mean?"
Yuki was sniffing around their bags and had found another box of jellybeans. She stuffed a few in her mouth before answering.
"Eh? Ningen means human. Ningen, human. Human, ningen."
Hermione frowned.
"You really aren't human are you?"
