Chapter 5

Substitute Teacher

Kagome had finished reading the assigned pages and was currently staring at the clock watching the hands moves slowly around was better then watching Naruto make a fool out of himself any day. This was perhaps the longest Social Studies class she has ever been to in her life. She chanced a glance at Naruto who was currently scribbling "Kick Me" on a sheet of paper and inconspicuously sticking it to her classmate's back. Only one more minute… just one more minute! The bell rang and Kagome had never been more grateful she hopped out of her seat. "Yes!" Finally over. She put a smile on her face before walking over to Sasuke.

Sasuke meanwhile was talking to his partner. "Naruto! I suggest you go over Kakashi's instructions over lunch… " He fell silent as Kagome approached them.
"Yeah, yeah" Naruto muttered more to himself then to anyone else. "Low Profile." The blonde boy continued talking about louder then necessary. "Jeesh, they're all pathetic anyway… what's the point?" Sasuke made a point to ignore Naruto, not that it was anything out of the ordinary.

"Hey" Kagome smiled at him. "Sasuke do you have PE as well?"
Sasuke pulled his schedule out of his pocket, dark eyes scanning quickly over it. "Hai."
This, Naruto decided was a good time to share his next class as well. "ME TOO!"
"Awesome… not awesome." Kagome frowned looking a bit disappointed after hearing Naruto was in her PE class. "Do you two have the same schedule?"
"I believe…" Sasuke spoke up. "Since you are our host, we all have the same classes." Good thing too…I need to keep an eye on Naruto before he gives us away.
"Damn.." Kagome cursed something she didn't do often. "This sucks… well, come on you two we should head to the gym. You two don't have gym strip yet do you? I mean, you might… but have you gotten the assigned strip?"
"Everything the students from Konoha wear are designed for physical activity." Sasuke stated coldly as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Oh… okay then. Do you want me to take you to the gym or.. would you like me to show you around?" The slate eyed girl easily kept up her cheery hostess attitude smiling at both boys.
"Gym first" Sasuke replied to her question his eyes scanning some of the students as they passed him on their way out of the classroom. I need to examine the other students.
"Okay, umm.. Here." Kagome smiled at Naruto placing some money in his hands. "Go find the cafeteria and buy yourself some ramen. They always serve it."

Naruto was never one to pass up ramen, especially when someone else was paying for it. The blue eyed boy snatched the cash from his new classmate grinning wildly. "SUGOI! RAMEN!!!!!!!!" His voice echoed down the halls as he practically disappeared from the classroom.

The dark haired girl smiled. "Gomen ne, but he's really irritating."
"You try having him in your party 24/7." Sasuke absently answered her.
"Party?" Kagome questioned, confusion clear on her features.
"It's for Community Service. It's a program at our Academy. We are in a Party of three and we get assigned certain tasks by our Sensei; I wonder how Sakura stands hanging around Naruto all day. She's the only girl in our party." Sasuke lied with great ease.
"Oh, though I can hardly imagine Naruto doing any community service." Kagome smiled taking Sasuke's hand in her own. "Here, I'll show you where the gym is." Weaving through all the people in the hallway Kagome lead Sasuke to the gym. "So there is a girl in your party? Is she nice?"
"More annoying then nice, she did save my life though so I cannot complain." Shut up Sasuke…you're acting like Naruto. The less they know the better.

"She saved your life? Sugoi!" Kagome giggled. "Do you have a crush on her Sasuke?" Stop being such a ditz! You're probably making him sick!
"Iie. I don't get crushes, they get in the way."
"Oh." Her slate eyes darkened a little she let go of Sasuke's hand and pushed the gym doors open. "This is the gym."
Sasuke dark eyes scanned the large gym, following the lines on the floor before moving up to examine the basketball nets. "Odd… it's a large room."
"Well… what did you expect?" Of course it's a large room… that's what gyms usually are at schools.
"Outside, a door leading to a field."
"Oh!" Kagome answered quickly as if not to disappoint the new student. "We do some activities outdoors and some in. the gym is mostly used in the winter when it snows. We have a field out that door over there." She pointed noticing Sasuke's eyes following the direction of her finger. "But, we're inside today, playing dodgeball.. Unless our teacher was just kidding and makes us do archery again."
"Archery?" Sasuke questioned. "I've never done that. Bow and Arrow sport?"
"Hai, I love archery, my teacher seems to think I am excellent at it but, I don't think I'm that good…." Her hands ran through her long ebony hair nervously when she realized she was babbling. "I need to go change.. I'll be back out in a minute alright you can wait on the bleachers or you can look around. Okay?"

Sasuke watched Kagome dash to the change room without even waiting for an answer. Not that he would have answered he was deep in though. We never used archery... the weapons aren't small enough to be concealed and are hard to transport. He scanned the males in the room before recognizing a familiar face.
"OI! YOU CAN COME SIT OVER HERE SASUKE!"
After decided quickly that sitting beside Inuyasha wouldn't do any harm he took a seat on the bleachers attempting to start a conversation. "….So, what's gym like in Tokyo?"
Inuyasha, whose full attention was on Kagome gave his usual Inuyasha answer. "Like gym class."

Sasuke rolled his eyes then looked up at Kagome. "Right now we're in the middle of an archery unit we usually play more modern sports and games like dodgeball or soccer. Sometimes the teachers like the more traditional sports though. Archery and Kendo are things we've done before. Inuyasha doesn't really like explaining things. You could have just asked me you know." She smiled at Sasuke blushing a pale pink at the thought of Inuyasha.

"ANO SA ANO SA!!!!!!!!!" Sasuke mentally cringed; he'd known that voice anywhere after all he heard it a million times. "I heard we're doing archery!" Naruto would have seemed to appear out of nowhere… if he hadn't been talking so loud earning him the attention of almost everyone currently in the Gym his voice echoing in the huge room.
"Great." Sasuke commented earning a dirty look from Naruto. "A human target."
Kagome opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by a loud…
"HEY!" Bright orange and navy blue became a blur as Naruto tackled Sasuke towards the wall, Sasuke's hand quickly formed seals…
"NARUTO! STOP THAT!" Kagome stood biting her lip nervously. "You'll get in trouble!"
Before stopping his hand movements just as quickly after hearing Kagome's voice. Low profile, low profile. Naruto watched as Sasuke hit the wall winding himself amazed, quickly getting to his feet. "I SWEAR… he NEVER goes down that easy! He usually uses a replacement jutsu!" Despite his efforts trying to explain his actions they still earned him a swift smack to the back of his head.
"BAKA!" Kagome shouted glaring at the blonde boy who was currently rubbing the back of his head where her hand had made contact a half a second earlier. She quickly made her way over to Sasuke worry replacing her angry façade with a worried one. "Are you alright Sasuke?"
Sasuke nodded despite the fact he WAS having trouble breathing. Stupid lungs, work already. Sasuke lifted his head slightly only to look at Kagome's hand reaching out his own and accepting letting her help him up.
"Do you need to go see the nurse?" That would probably do more harm then good though… Her brow furrowed as Sasuke coughed into his hand. At least he's breathing…
Sasuke glanced down at his hand replying emotionlessly to Kagome with a quick, "I'm fine." Before putting his hand behind his back rubbing it on his shirt to get the blood off, he didn't miss Kagome's concerned look, or the death glare she shot in Naruto's general direction.
Sheepishly Naruto rubbed the back of his head. "Gomen gomen! I forgot about the wall, and I shouldn't have used that much chakra!"
With a roll of her eyes Kagome turned her attention back to Sasuke. "Sasuke? Do you want a drink of water… or anything?"
He noticed her worry; she was too easy to read. "No, I'm fine." Taking a deep breath Sasuke continued to speak. "When's the Sensei going to be here?"
"Soon, Sensei is never late though… We probably have a sub."
"Any teacher would be fine as long as it's not that one from Socials." Sasuke spoke up somewhat out of character. He saw Kagome nod in silent agreement, before looking at Naruto. Confused as always… idiot.

Everyone turned their attention to the door as it opened the newcomer demanded respect, which was immediately given to him as he strode into the room. "Good Afternoon everyone." Molten gold eyes surveyed the room, mouth curving into a smirk. "I am your substitute today as your normal teacher is ill. We will be practicing archery as well as kendo for those who would like to practice kendo. Get your equipment and get to work."
Kagome grinned innocently speaking up to their substitute teacher ignoring Inuyasha whose eye was twitching dangerously. "You never did tell us your name."
The teacher looked at her cold hard gold meeting with slate. "Very well then Kagome. My name is Sesshoumaru." He took his eyes off Kagome to look at his sibling grinning almost maliciously. "It's going to be a great pleasure teaching you all."
