"Damn you, Koga!"

InuYasha growled deep in his throat and threw himself at the wolf demon, fist drawn back.

"InuYasha, don't!" Kagome half crouched behind a rock, ducking the occasional rubble that flew her way. The fight was getting intense. InuYasha's fist connected with Koga's jaw and the wolf demon went flying, rolling several times before sliding to a stop. Dust filled the air around him.

"Heh! Like a pathetic wolf demon could ever be a match for me," InuYasha bragged, examining his claws with a superior look on his face. Blood flowed freely from a gash on his forehead and he stood slightly hunched to the side, where Koga's claws had raked him.

"It's not over yet, mutt-face!" Koga growled. He dragged himself painfully from the ground. "Kagome is my woman. I won't let her leave this place with the likes of you!"

Koga launched himself at InuYasha, his legs moving at an unnatural speed because of the sacred jewel shards imbedded in them. He collided with InuYasha before the dog demon even had a chance to blink in surprise. The two tumbled roughly across the ground, sliding to a stop perilously close to a sheer cliff.

"InuYasha, Koga, quit that nonsense this instant, before you both get killed," Kagome yelled at the top of her lungs, rising furiously from her cover behind the rock and running several steps toward the fight.
"Kagome! Get back!" Miroku warned, jumping from his own cover and pulling her out of the way, just as a large rock was thrown across her path. The force of Miroku's pull sent them both tumbling to the ground.

"This is ridiculous!" Kagome shouted, disentangling herself from the monk's grasp. "They're going to kill me while they're fighting over me!"

"Yes. I think we need to do something before someone is seriously injured," Miroku agreed, dragging himself to a sitting position. Behind the pair, Koga and InuYasha were still struggling, moving ever closer to the cliff edge.

"But what can we do?" Kagome demanded.

"I was hoping you would have an idea."

"Oh, if only Sango were here. I could tell InuYasha to sit and the two of you could grab Koga…"

"You stupid puppy!" Koga's voice could just be heard over the noise of the all-out battle.

"Shut up you worthless wolf demon!"

"This is ridiculous," Kagome muttered, dropping defeatedly to the ground beside Miroku. "There's no way to stop those two fighting once they get started…"

"Rrraahhhggghhh!" InuYasha roared, throwing himself at Koga once again. Fortunately, this time they moved several feet away from the cliff edge.

"Oh, I guess they'll be alright," Kagome observed, ducking a shower of rubble and brushing at the rock bits it left in her hair.

"Yes," Miroku agreed, his eyes never leaving the fight. "As long as nothing unexpected happens…"

At that moment, the monk began to glow.

"Uh… Miroku? What is that?" Kagome asked nervously. Miroku's entire body was surrounded by a strange, purple light that seemed to radiate from his very skin.

"What?" The monk looked down and gave an uncharacteristic start of surprise. "…I don't know," said after a moment, holding his hand at eye level and examining it carefully from every angle. It has a strange feeling to it, he observed silently. An evil feeling…

"Look! InuYasha's glowing, too!" Kagome exclaimed, pointing at the dog demon, jaw slack with surprise. "What is it?!"

InuYasha had stopped fighting to examine the purple glow that surrounded him. "What the heck is this?" he demanded, pulling at his kimono, which was also glowing.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing? How dare you look away in the middle of a fight!" Koga shouted furiously, flinging himself at InuYasha with all his might. InuYasha, distracted by the strange glow, did not react in time and took the full force of the blow. Neither of the demons had expected this and they went tumbling far further than they had before. Straight towards Miroku and Kagome.

"Kagome, look out!" Miroku exclaimed, attempting to pull the girl out of the way. The moment the monk's hand touched Kagome's arm, she too was wrapped in the purple glow. It tingled on her skin and she had the sensation that it was pulling her somewhere. It reminded her of the feeling she got when she jumped down the bone-eater's well that transported her between feudal Japan and her own time.

Time seemed to slow around her as the pulling sensation grew stronger. InuYasha and Koga, also both wrapped in the strange glow, seemed to tumble toward her in slow motion, yet she could not move to get out of the way. Miroku was yelling something but his voice was slow and distorted. InuYasha and Koga collided with Kagome and Miroku and all four went tumbling across the ground.

The world faded into a blinding white glow. The ground seemed to disappear from beneath them. And then there was nothing.
