The Two Princesses

A girl about the age of 17 stared out at the silent, mysterious ocean as she sat, leaning against the wide windowsill. Her deep sapphire eyes scanned the endless blue, misting over dreamily as the water splashed on the sharp, slippery rocks. The girl smoothed the surface of her lavender nightgown, and fingered the small, delicate flowers littered all over her sleeves. A salty ocean breeze swayed her lovely ebony hair; she put her head on her slender hands, and gazed longingly at how free the ocean seem to be. She longed to be as free as the sea, following to wherever the current flows to. She tensed as footsteps lead its way up to the stairs. They drew nearer and stopped at her bedroom's door. She heard her father, The King, knocking on the door:

“ Kaoru, are you in there?” He asked.

“Come in, Father.” Princess Kaoru answered lazily.

The King entered his daughter's bedroom and smiled warmly, “Do you know what today is, Kaoru?” He asked.

“Today is to be the ball for me to meet other princesses and princes and I am to choose a husband.” Kaoru replied dully; she was supposed to get married when she turns 18 on her next birthday, which is drawing nearer. She hated to be a princess though, and she hated to be forced to stay inside her father's grand castle. All Kaoru wanted to do was to be like other girls her age, getting to be outside with the nature and being active. The only place she had been to were other balls and castles, and the beach. Kaoru liked the beach very much. She loved the way its salty and stinging feeling the wind brings, the refreshing watery smell, and the way the cold water likes to chase her heels. Her father always laughed when Kaoru run around trying not to be touched by the icy waves. Those seemed to be the only times when Kaoru felt like she was free.

Kaoru slowly rose from the windowsill, and waited as two maids enter the room to set up her changing screen. The maids stepped aside for Kaoru to walk through, and waited for her to choose her dress. Kaoru smiled a bit at their nervousness; she picked out a flowy, velvet baby blue dress that matches the color of her eyes. The dress has little, white and purple flowers for decoration, and lots of laces. It smells of jasmine, Kaoru favorite kind of flowers, so she held it gently and brought it up to her face and breathed in its wonderful scent. Giving it to the maids, whose names were Misao and Megumi, Kaoru waited to be dressed. Megumi and Misao started right away. Misao began tying the laces of the dress, while Megumi picks out a pair of white high heels, and fitted them on Kaoru's feet. They also got out some hair clips and began working on Kaoru's hair. When they were finished, Kaoru looked like a goddess, so beautiful and bright that The King smiled wider and said,

“ You are such a beautiful girl, Kaoru.”

“ Thank you, Father.” Kaoru smiled back. Somehow, Kaoru felt that something exciting will happen at the ball, but she doesn't know what. She felt happier because it might not be as boring as the other balls. And something will indeed happen at the ball….

Lying with her back against the soft, warm mattress, Kagome ran her hands through her thick, black/blue hair. Her eyes are the color of the cold gray sky, but they give you warmth, not chills. Her hands clutched a piece of paper, cutting her fingers slightly. She had been invited to the Kamiya Ball that's supposed to be made for a princess name Kaoru. She didn't want to go, but her parents made her. Her mother told her,

“ I heard that princess lost her mother when she was 5. Poor little thing. If you go to that ball, you can make friends with her and maybe cheer her up a bit.”

Kagome also felt sorry for the other princess. She had heard that Kaoru was a beauty. Everyone told her that she is too, and that is also very true. Kagome has beautiful raven hair that falls to her back, and her eyes are so peculiar and pretty, yet so mysterious. The shape of her face is smooth and her skin is milky white, which makes her soft, pink lips show clearly. Her body isn't that of a 15 year old, but of a woman's, with all its curves. She also wear clothes that are really beautiful, so that adds to her already stunning beauty.

Waiting for a while, Kagome got up and rang a bell. Immediately, a maid appeared at the doorway of Kagome's elegant bedroom.

“ There you are, Sango!” Kagome pouted, “I thought you would not show up!”

Sango is Kagome's maid, but also her very best friend. She herself is beautiful, with her jet-black hair up in neat ponytail and her cold, dark eyes. She has a really cute cat called Kirara, and it's currently curled up in Sango's arms.

“ Gomen, Kagome-chan.” Sango laughed, “I didn't know you wake up at 10 o'clock in the morning…” She began to mock.

“ What??!! It's 10 already? I'm late!” Kagome screeched. She promised her mom to go to the ball, and here she is, scrambling around to get ready.

Sango began to laugh harder than ever. Kagome stopped and looked at Sango in a piercing way.

“ Why are you laughing?”

“Well, I didn't think you would fall for my trick…”

“Nani? You were joking?” Kagome screamed, throwing a pillow at Sango.

“ Yep!” Came the muffled reply. Soon, Kagome and Sango were laughing and throwing pillows at each other, feathers flying everywhere. They stopped though, when The Queen, Kagome's mother, came in and stopped them.

“ Well, well, well, I think someone is having a pillow fight,” The Queen inquired jokingly, “ But they're going to be late for a ball if they don't hurry!”

Kagome pouted; she wanted to play a little more. She hurried to her large, wooden wardrobe breathing and gasping for air because she laughed so hard. Grabbing the brass handle, Kagome flung the wardrobe's door open. Inside were all sorts of dresses and shoes and bonnets etc. She picked out a lovely rose-colored dress with deep blue petals and green leaves on it, looking as though it's floating by the dress, not on it. She picked out a deep blue shawl and a pair of light pink slippers. Sango helped dress her and do her hair until she was so pretty, anyone could have mistaken her for an angel. The Queen looked proudly at her daughter. `She grew up so fast.' The Queen thought secretly.

“ Shall we go then?”

“ Yes, Mother” Kagome chirped, “Come on, Sango.”

And so they too left for the ball.
