Part 3 – The Storm’s Approach

“Enough Inu Yasha!” Naraku’s voice rang out, clear and menacing, causing Kagura and Inu Yasha to pause in their battle. Inu Yasha turned and saw Kagome struggled in Naraku’s grasp.
“Kagome!”
The hanyou started to charge, he would not allow Naraku to hurt her anymore. He halted however when he saw one of Narkau’s hands move to her throat and heard her gasp. “I said enough Inu Yasha,” Naraku’s voice had become softer, more condescending.
He stayed where he was, every muscle trembling, begging for action. “Let her go Naraku! This is between you and me.”
“tsk tsk. Poor Inu Yasha. You’ve lost so much haven’t you?”
His rage kindled more as he thought of the friends who had already fallen. He gripped the Tetsusaiga, which pulsed with power. Kagome looked at him with pleading eyes. ‘Damn!’ Naraku smiled viscously, his hand moving down to Kagome’s stomach. She flinched again as his hand stopped, splaying his fingers on her belly. Inu Yasha took another step forward but again halted as Naraku glared at him. “Oh ho, this is an interesting development,” he gripped Kagome’s chin in his hand and twisted her head to face him, “Now I am uncertain whether or not I should kill you.”
“Naraku, I could almost forgive what you did to Kikyo and I. You wanted the jewel, same as I. I know at one time I would have done almost anything to get it. But what you did to Kagome…you will die…Now get your filthy hands off my wife and daughter!”
Inu Yasha charged with speed that surprised even himself. As he swung Tetsusaiga he grabbed Kagome’s arm, wrenching her from the evil hanyou’s grasp and pulling her to him. One of Naraku’s arms fell to the ground twitching. Inu Yasha let go of Kagome and pushed against Naraku, pinning him to the wall, Tetsusaiga at his throat. A menacing growl rumbled in Inu Yasha’s chest as he brought his sword closer to Naraku’s flesh. Naraku struggled to escape the inu hanyou’s grasp but was unsuccessful, a look of fear passed over his features as he realized that he had pushed Inu Yasha too far. “Now Naraku, you die.”
With a powerful stroke, Naraku’s head rolled to the floor. Inu Yasha stood over the body as it twitched. The head attempted to reattach itself. Kagome appeared beside him, her bow notched and drawn. “I don’t think so,”
She let the arrow fly, piercing Naraku’s heart. An ear shattering scream echoed through the castle as Naraku’s body dissolved into nothingness. Inu Yasha looked at Kagome, who looked back at him with a combination of relief and sadness. All of their friends were gone. Then they heard Miroku’s clear voice. “Inu Yasha!”
They turned, amazed to see the houshi, supporting Sango. Kirara and Shippo stood beside them. Kagome ran to them, “How?”
Sango gestured behind them and an unexpected figure stepped from the shadows, the Tensaiga still glowing in his hands. Inu Yasha went to his brother. They stared at one another for a long tense moment. “Thank you Sesshomaru.”

The wind moaned a sorrowful song as Kagome cried in pain. Inu Yasha paced the front room of Kaede’s hut as Miroku watched him with pity. Finally they heard the cries of the baby and Inu Yasha bolted into the birthing room before anyone could stop him. Kaede was laying a small bundle in Kagome’s arms. He stepped up to his mate, who smiled up at him. A little hesitantly Inu Yasha peeked into the blankets she held. He didn’t know what to expect of this child and he was worried what it would look like. He found himself staring into wide eyes that were as grey as the sky before a snowfall. Other than the clawed hand that reached for his hair, the girl looked completely human. He sighed and touched the baby’s hand gently. She wrapped her tiny fingers around one of his and Inu Yasha smiled. “She’s beautiful.”
“What should we name her Inu Yasha?”
He thought only a moment. “Yuki, her name will be Yuki.”

“Inu Yasha loved Yuki very much. She had a way of looking at you that melted your heart. Yuki grew more swiftly than any of us suspected. By ningen standards she was growing slowly but for a hanyou she was growing quickly. Soon she was as tall as her mother. I am not certain when she started showing the youkai in her but Inu Yasha and Kagome kept it a secret from everyone. I was the first to experience on of her rages.”

“Come on Yuki, try to hit me.”
Kagome sat beneath the shade of a tree, leaning against Inu Yasha, as they watched Yuki play with Koga. The wolf demon had taken it upon himself to instruct the girl in the ways of hand to hand combat. She listened to the girl’s laughter as she charged her “Uncle” Koga, while she allowed her gaze to drift to the perfect blue of the sky. Inu Yasha nuzzled her neck, making her shiver with pleasure. She looked at him, smiling. He smiled back, touching her cheek softly. They heard a small snarl and looked to see Yuki picking herself up from the ground. Yuki looked at the scraps on the palms of her hands, the growl building in her chest. When she looked up at the laughing Koga it was with red hued eyes. “You hurt Yuki!” she screamed.
The smile left Koga face as the slender girl charged him with murder in her eyes. He barely had time to grab her wrists as she slammed into his chest, knocking him to the ground. “Yuki, stop!” he cried, as he fought to keep her hands from ripping into his neck.
Kagome ran to Koga’s aid, kneeling beside him, grabbing one of her daughter’s arm, calling her name. The jewel around her neck flickered briefly with pure white light and Yuki calmed, sitting for a moment on Koga’s stomach. She shook her head, the pony tail of silver streaked black hair whipping wildly, then looked at Kagome, tears in her grey eyes. “Yuki hurt,” she whimpered.
Kagome held her arms out to her and Yuki went to her, clinging tightly as she sniffled. Kagome stroked her hair, mumering soothing words to her as Inu Yasha offered Koga a hand up. Koga took the offered hand, “What just happened dog turd?”
Inu Yasha chuckled a bit at the nickname that Koga couldn’t seem to stop using. “I’m sorry Koga, we should have warned you.”
Kagome looked up at the two. “Really Koga-kun, I didn’t think…”
“Just tell me what happened.”
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome, reluctant to tell the truth while Yuki could hear. “She’s asleep,” was her response.
He nodded then turned to his friend. “Yuki is not my child. She is Naraku’s”
Koga looked first at Inu Yasha, then Kagome with an incredulous look. “You mean…but how?”
“I’d prefer not to relive that Koga-kun,” Kagome said, rising to her feet.
“Then she is evil?” he asked, still unable to believe the strength and speed Yuki had exhibited.
“There is great evil in her but there is goodness, she is Kagome’s child as well, after all,” Inu Yasha said, taking Yuki from Kagome. The girl snuggled into his chest, tangling her fingers into Inu Yasha’s thick silver hair.
“Does anyone else know?” Koga asked, as they began to walk toward Kaede’s village.
“No. I’d prefer to keep it that way Koga-kun. They just wouldn’t understand.”
Koga watched his friends walk away from him. To have to carry that kind of burden must be hard, he thought but they still seem happy. This was the first time the wolf had seen that side of the girl. She was still so young, only 11 winters old, yet she’d been able to overpower him. He vowed that he would help Kagome and Inu Yasha keep Yuki under control. With that in mind, he took off at a run for his cave.
