Chapter Two

Abel’s eyes turned from their crystal blue to a crimson, and his long silver hair started to billow up slowly as electricity and raw power billowed around his body. His facial features stayed mostly the same, but the major difference was that he grew fangs and his lips were a nice shade of blue. Clenched in his right hand was a large red scythe that was emitting some electricity.

Kagome stared at Abel in amazement. “Abel? I can’t…What?” She wheezed as her chest was crushed tightly, and tried to kick at the vampiress’ shin as a possible way of escape. If Kagome were to turn around, she would have laughed ought right. The vampiress was shaking in pure fear and was as pale as a ghost. “What…what…are you?!” She shrieked and pulled Kagome closer to her, hoping that it would keep her safe.

Slowly walking toward both of the two, a smirk slipped across his thin lips, his fangs showing even more. “You’ll be my food.” He stated coldly, his scythe emitting even more electricity now. Rushing toward his enemy, he found that he slashed at the air. “You are too slow!” She cackled evilly, loving the look of frustration on his face. The repetition of his scythe not sinking into the vampiress’ flesh then destroying her was starting to drive him mad.

He tried to trap the vampiress in the backlash of the whip that was attached to his scythe, and after the second try, her legs were trapped tightly in the sharp, crimson whip that dug in tighter, constricting her movement even more. Kagome winced as a shriek of pain was emitted from the vampiress, blood spilled out of her decapitated legs in gushes, and Kagome moaned in pain as she hit the floor hard.

Writhing in pain, the vampiress managed to sit up, staring at Abel with almost unseeing eyes. “Who…are you?” She muttered softly, her voice loosing its strength. Sweeping past her, he kneeled down beside Kagome. “Are you alright Kagome-san?” His voice was rougher than normal, but she knew that this was Abel no doubt, he transformed right in front of her eyes…”Hai Abel-san” He smiled and fell into her lap, exhausted. “ABEL!” Kagome shouted worriedly, gently turning him over and brushing his hair back from his closed eyes. “I hope you wake up soon…”

Sapphire eyes fluttered softly as Kagome fell out of the state of dreams and into the bright, bustling, state of the living. “Mmmm” she yawned, and looked down as she shifted. She felt a slight weight on her legs and her eyes widened in realization. “Abel-san…” she whispered softly. Leaning back against eh wall, she sighed and waited until he woke up.

She didn’t have to wait long. He shifted lightly on her lap, and his crystal blue eyes opened sleepily. “Kagome-san? We’re still in the hotel?” She nodded. “Hai. When you fainted in exhaustion, It was hard to move you. You really worried me when you did that…” Abel’s eyes widened considerably, he didn’t know that he had worried her like that. “Gomen Kagome-san. I didn’t mean to worry you.” Kagome smiled softly down at him. “Well, we really need to get out of here…the air is oppressing.”

Abel nodded slightly, and rose up slowly onto his feet. Extending a hand out to Kagome, he gently drew her up onto her feet. With it being daylight, both of them could see how gruesome the bloodshed from last night was. Bursting through the open doors, Abel and Kagome were surprised to find a tall, red headed man walking towards them. “Trs?” Abel shouted incredulously. “Father Nightroad…your presence is required by Lady Caterina.” He gave Trs a questioning look. “Cardinal Sforza wishes to see me? Do you know why?” Kagome interrupted the two, her soft voice drawing both pairs of eyes to her. “Abel-san, could I go with you? It seems that I‘m a target for these Methuselah. what a surprise. I feel that It would be safer for the both of us.”

He considered what she said and nodded enthusiastically, and pulled her hand with vigor towards Trs. The short walk to the black car was uneventful, mostly because no one was walking the streets. As the car drove down the quiet road, she leaned back into the seat and sighed. Glancing at Abel for a second, she focused her attention back to the window and the buildings that they were passing. His eyes had diverted from his clenched pocketbook, to the quiet Kagome and he stared at her with quiet scrutiny. “Kagome’s-san, are you alright?” She tore her gaze from the fast, passing streets of Rome and nodded a bit dazedly. “Hai, I’m alright Abel-san.”

Her eyes were a dull sapphire, but they still held a sparkle to them as she looked at him. They passed the bustle of Rome rather quickly. Turning into a set of long gates, they finally stopped. Abel’s head snapped to the right side of the car and as he quickly walked out, he swiftly walked around and let Kagome out. Smiling faintly at him, she grabbed his hand as she stepped out. “Caterina may be intimidating, but she’s really a nice woman. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when you meet both her and Kate.” He said chuckling.

She looked at him quizzically, but she let the comment pass for now. Trs led them down several lengthy hallways and stopped as a woman who was dressed in a blue and white nun’s outfit clapped her hands happily as she spotted Kagome. “Well hello there! Abel, It seems that you’ve done something good and brought someone that would be good to talk to instead of all these men around here that don’t understand a thing.” Kagome cracked a smile at this, and Abel’s face dropped in disappointment. “What ever do you mean Miss Nolle ? You know that a lot of us can keep up with everything that you like to talk about…” Kagome sighed. “Abel, that’s not what she means. Gods I know that any man that I’ve met couldn’t understand any word of our ‘girl talk,’ as they put it.” Noelle nodded in agreement. “Yes, you have that right. “Oh, how silly of me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Nolle Bor.” Kagome smiled at her and tilted her head in response. “Nice to meet you. My Name is Kagome Higurashi.”

“Well, we can’t stand out here all night, lets go inside already!” Noelle said with an exuberant voice. With Noelle leading them in, Kagome, Abel, and Trs followed her down several hallways and stopped suddenly when she stopped in front of a large set of doors.

Knocking briefly, the small group entered the surprisingly large room. Abel was the first to bow slightly, and Kagome did as well. Glancing at the blonde woman behind the ornate cherry desk she smiled slightly at her. “Hello Caterina-sama. I am Higurashi Kagome.”

Caterina studied Kagome carefully and smiled softly at her. “Well, It seems that you’ve brought someone here that has manners Abel. Why exactly are you here Kagome-san?” Abel straightened up. “I can answer that. It seems that the Methuselah are after her. I found it best to bring her here with me.”

“I also found it imperative to bring her here because she would be a great help. She has a most unusual power.”

“Unusual you say?” Caterina glanced at Kagome, intrigued. “How so?”

Kagome grinned. “I guess what he’s trying to say is that I fried the last Methuselah to dust. It was quite refreshing actually.”

“Dust? What are you?” Caterina asked.

Kagome smirked, mirroring Sesshoumaru. “A miko of course.”

Caterina looked at her quizzically. Kagome sighed. “A priestess. I have holy powers running through my veins.”

“Interesting…very interesting. Kagome, would you accompany Abel on his assignments to foreign countries? It would be a great help.”

Kagome grinned. “Of course. I haven’t had this much fun in well…a long time.”

Caterina smiled. “Good. You’re first assignment is an island off of Honshu in Japan. There is a rumor going around that there is a haven for the Methuselah, but it isn’t what it seems. They have been attacking citizens and destroying anything that gets in their way. Kagome, I think this would be a good assignment for you seeing that you come from Japan. You may do as you deem necessary. You are dismissed.”

The two nodded and left the room. “This seems like it’s going to get quite interesting. I wonder if anyone’s still there?” Kagome said to herself.

Abel stared at her, then glanced at Tres, who was staring at them blankly. “What’s the matter with him?” kagome asked Abel.

Abel shrugged. Trs then spoke up. “Father Nightroad. Sister Kagome. I will escort you to your destination. Follow me.”

Kagome sighed and followed the weird, robotic man. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to deal with going back…Sesshoumaru…Shippo…she thought sadly. “I’ll never see them again.” she whispered as her eyes became teary.

See who again I wonder? Abel snapped out of his thoughts as Trs addressed him. “We are here. Get in.” He said and got into the operator’s seat. Abel sat beside him and Kagome sat in the back.

Kagome stared at the beauty of this almost untamed island. “Its good to be home.” she said with a soft grin.

Looking at Abel, she rolled her eyes as she noticed that he was staring in awe at the beauty of the area. “First time you’ve been here in this area?”

He nodded. “Yes. Its quite beautiful isn’t it?”

She nodded. “I always used to come to the beaches around here because they were so beautiful in the summer and fall. When the leaves start turning, it is breathtaking.”

“We must be going.” Tres said and started off toward the paved path.

“Right.” Kagome and Abel said quickly, and followed him silently, lost in their thoughts.

If these monsters dare to hurt on hair on any member of my family…I’ll purify them so fast that they won’t even know what hit them. Kagome thought, and smirked as her thoughts took a darker turn. I sure am glad that Sesshou rubbed off on me.

The three came up to a blackened building that had no lights on. It was quite extravagant, and Kagome studied it curiously. “So this is the place?” she scratched her head and sighed. “It doesn’t seem like much. Really, I thought it would be a castle of some sorts…For gods sakes, we’re going to have to search and destroy all of these damned things? Man, I really hate my luck sometimes. They should just show themselves and make it easier.”

“Yes, this is it.” Abel said and smiled a bit at Kagome’s ‘ranting’ so to speak Opening the door, Kagome stared at the ‘decorations’ in distaste. There was blood everywhere.

“They need to get a new redecorator.” she said dryly, almost gagging at the oppressing smell of the coppery blood that was sprayed all over the place.

“I would have to agree.” Abel said, glancing around for any signs of life.

Kagome’s eyes widened considerably as she spotted a familiar, curled up kimono. “It can’t be….”

Kneeling down and shaking the pale girl, she smiled a bit as the girl’s haunted, dark eyes took some warmth to them. “Kagome-okaasan!!! I….I don’t know where I am!!! Last thing Rin remembers is Fluffy-sama, blood, and those weird girls with the mirror and the red eyes, and blood! Fluffy-sama could be in trouble!!!” She began to sob into Kagome’s haori.

“It’ll be ….okay Rin-chan. I’ll take care of you, and we’ll find Fluffy-sama, okay?” she said with a soft smile.

Rin nodded. “O-okay Kagome-neesan.” Glancing to the side, her little body almost jumped out of her skin. “S-Sesshoumaru-sama?”

Kagome laughed. “No Rin-chan, this is Abel. Although I thought he was Sesshou to when I first saw him.”

“You did?” Rin asked. “He sure does look like Fluffy-sama.” Blinking and taking a good look at Abel, she grinned. “He sure looks like one of Fluffy-sama’s brothers…Is he okaa?”

Kagome laughed. “No Rin-chan, Sesshou’s only brother is Inuyasha. Remember him?”

Rin nodded. “Yeah, he’s the really loud one that was mean to kaasan! Did you sit him?”

Kagome nodded. “Yep. Sure did kiddo.”

Abel was greatly confused now. “You know this little girl Kagome-san? And you’re her mother? Who’s Sesshou and Inuyasha?”

Kagome’s eyes darkened. “Sesshou is really Sesshoumaru. You look like him quite a bit. He’s well, to put it flatly, my fiancée.” She gasped as she felt Sesshoumaru’s aura fade. “N-no…It can’t…It’s not possible!” She turned over her wrist and noticed that the blue crescent had turned silver. “N-no!” she broke out in tears, clenching Rin to her.

“Okaasan? Why are you crying?” Kagome glanced down at Rin with a tear stained face. I don’t know how to tell her!

“Sesshou’s gone Rin-chan. He isn’t in this world anymore. But you have to remember, he’s here in our hearts.”

Rin burst out crying. “Sesshoumaru-sama! You can’t go!!”

“Rin. Kagome.” Sesshoumaru’s smooth voice was heard and he appeared in a ghostly form beside Abel. Abel jumped and stared in confusion at Sesshoumaru.

“Sesshou? How?”

He smirked at her. “I’ll always be with you koi. And so will our son.”

Kagome gasped in surprise. “I’m pregnant? Oh Sesshou…” She wanted to hug him tight. “He’s not going to know his father.” she sadly said.

“that may be, but I know you’ll raise him right. Rin, watch over your mother and your little brother when the time comes.” he turned to Abel and stared at him with cold, golden eyes. “You will watch over Kagome. I know that you are already looking out for her, and you will continue to do so.”

He brushed his clawed hand against her cheek the best a ghost could. “Don’t spend your whole life mourning me koshii. Find another that makes you happy.”

She stared at him with teary eyes. “But I can’t Sesshou!” She cried out.

“You can and you will koshii. I don’t want to see you like this. Be happy koi.” He said and smiled as he faded away.

“I swear it. I’ll do this for the three of us Sesshou.” she swore. “Ungh.” she moaned out as she collapsed in pain.

Rin and Abel stared in shock as parts of her hear faded into silver, dainty claws appeared on her hands, and she sprouted a fluffy tail. “Okaasan turned into a youkai like otousan!”

Abel picked up Kagome and brought her outside, leaning her against the closest tree. Rin snuggled into her side and Kagome wrapped her arms instinctively around her adopted daughter.

So her fiancée was a demon? She leads one interesting life. And now she’s a demon as well? I’ll have to watch over her carefully…

He sat down nearby on a tree stump in a pose that was just like Sesshoumaru. What have I gotten myself into?
