Amidst The Change
Chapter 5: The changed man, the two faced decision, the un-selfish choice

~InuYasha's P.o.V.~
I sighed and rolled my eyes again at Kim. "Don't bother with it..." I whispered, nudging her hard in the back and glaring. She glared back and continued yelling at Max's mother and brother. Her brother, Marlon, was giving me a strange look though. I walked out of Kim and Kaiba's 'estate' and into the massive front garden. I sat under a tree, a weeping willow, that hid me from veiw from passersby...except for someone who'd followed me. My ears pricked up and I knew he'd followed me before he came into sight. "What do you want?" I asked, putting up my guard. "I wanted to ask you about my sister..." Marlon replied, keeping his distance from me. "Yea, what about her...she was really upset about you and your mom trying to control her life so much...she tries to win your approval but doesn't want to hurt others in the process," I said, glaring at him. He glared back,"Maxine is a liar to her family, she lied about everything and she's selfish to not give simple things up," he said viciously. "Maxine is changed if you ask me...she looks to help people, not judge them immediately...she's settled herself down," I said softly. "She's settled you down," he remarked. "What's that supposed to mean?" I snapped. "I know how you were before...but now you seem changed, that much I can give to my sister that she changed you and softened you," he said simply.
It hit me hard just then, it was true. The woman I loved, Maxine, had changed me and molded me into a softer heart. With her love...
I vowed to do all I could to find her, no matter what it took.
~Max's P.o.V.~
I clung to Meg's arm, trying to stop myself from shaking. The floor seemed to spin as 'they' led us down a long marble pillared hall...and I swore that someone was following us, behind each one of the pillars. I was shivering, even in the heat of the afternoon. I tried to remember what day and time it was but the days had passed in a blur that I was so confused. And then all I thought about was InuYasha...would he ever know his child was dead, thrown carelessly aside? We stopped short as I thought these things and in front of us was a pool of blood, with a fountain trickling down peacefully. I tried to not think about who's or what's blood that was as my eyes met the one who led us there eyes. It was the first time I'd looked so bravely into that face, althought the whole time I'd known who it was.
Naraku, was tall and pale, his eyes of hate met mine and he smirked. "You've known all this time...you have a knack...an annoying knack for seeing things before they happen, dear girl," he said, his voice soft and sweet. I knew better though. "You bastard," Meg said, glaring at him, trying to walk towards him. Jack pulled her back as I clung to her hand weakly. "How could you do this to her, you fucking bastard?" Meg asked. "Oh, I've done just as much to you," Naraku replied, smiling and snapping his fingers. The figure I'd seen behind the pillars came to his side,"You see...I've made a rather...how can you say? A deal with the dead..." Naraku whispered. "Barbossa..." Jack said. Barbossa grinned at Jack,"How are ye Jack...feeling broken, betrayed?" he asked as if reuniting with an old friend. "You bastard!" Meg yelled, lunging for Barbossa, her nails tearing at his flesh. He laughed heartily and shoved her down to the ground,"You can't kill the dead, love...I'm not under no curse this time and it can't be broken...I am simply undead," Barbossa whispered, his face inches from hers. She spat at him as Jack picked her back up. "What do you want with us?" I whispered hoarsely. "We only want you to make a choice for us..." Naraku whispered back, stepping towards me. I backed up slightly and he laughed, a ridiculing, blood curling laugh. He took my hand into his own, holding my wrist upwards. I glared at him bravely, shuddering at his touch as he took his nails and ran them down my vein, cutting deep within. I gave out a cry as he released me and I fell to me knees, holding my now heavily bleeding arm. Lights were flashing in my eyes and I whispered,"What are our choices?" I asked. "Max, don't bargain with them," Meg said. I shook my head and looked at Naraku. "What are our choices?" I repeated. He bent down and stroked my hair, smiling,"You can go through a world of suffering with the dear thought that InuYasha and all your loved ones are safe...with the exception of your dear...'sister'..." he whispered. "What's my other choice?" I asked. "Oh...it's not worth it, dear girl..." he whispered maliciously. "Tell me," I replied, through gritted teeth. "...your next choice is we release you, away from civilization for now...although in your state, I only expect you to live for a few days longer...and we take your dear InuYasha and we'll even do the honor of killing him in front of your eyes...but you probably can see that happening before it does...and we take that dear big 'sister' of yours and all of these friends of yours for exchange of your release," he said. "That's a fucking bloody two faced decision!" Meg yelled, her voice echoing in the halls. Either way, I would probably die and knowing Naraku, no matter what, he'd lure InuYasha to me...and either way, at least one of my friends died, if not all of them. I looked at Meg and Jack, turning my face away from Naraku's gaze. He chuckled lightly,"Think wisely, dear girl..." he whispered. "How about I make a deal?" Jack asked. Naraku and Barbossa spoke up in interest,"Oh and what's this deal?" Naraku asked, still gazing at me. "You release Meg and Max together...you leave everyone else out of this, including all of our families and friends...you take me and do away as you please...take anything you want from our possessions..." he said. I could tell he'd thought thoroughly but it wouldn't be enough. Naraku laughed with Barbossa, still gazing at me,"Isn't that nice..?" he said softly. I lowered my head, not wanting to look into those stone cold grey eyes. Instead I looked at Jack, catching only his attention. "Let them release Meg..." I mouthed. He furrowed his brow in confusion as I spoke up,"Take me and Jack...release Meg and leave all of them out of it...you both get what you want; Barbossa wants Jack dead and you want either me or InuYasha dead...or at least to see InuYasha suffer..." I said, looking into his eyes. He smiled, running his hand along my face gently, caressing. "That's rather selfish of you now, don't you think? Thinking he'll actually suffer from your death..." he whispered. "I won't fall for your trick..." I whispered back. His fingers brushed against my lips,"So beautiful...so naive..." he whispered, leaning forward and kissing me deeply. His lips sealed my fate with Jack's. "The deal is done then," he whispered, standing. I lowered my head, tears falling freely. "NO!" Meg screamed, trying to fight as two robed guards started to drag her out of the hall,"Jack! Jack, look at me! You can't do this, Jack, I die with you!" she screamed, crying. "Love...stay strong...I love you, Meg...don't cry, please..." he whispered. "Max! Please, rethink this! I don't want to be without you and Jack! How can I go back to them without you?!" she screamed. "Meg, you're saved...go back home and take care of yourself...and your baby..." I whispered, my eyes closed, fighting tears. "My...baby..?" she whispered. "Your's and Jack's baby..." I whispered. "Take her," Naraku said. They left silently after that, Meg's cries the only sound that echoed in the hall, planting itself in our minds. Naraku's gaze shifted from Jack to me again,"How unselfish of you...you aren't the scum low-life Id've thought InuYasha would marry off," he said. "InuYasha is different..." I said. "Because of you, perhaps?" he asked. I remained silent. It wouldn't matter...our fate was sealed with a bloody kiss.
~Aye, indeed...Meg's gone...with their child. Now me and Jack must turn our fates...but is there any hope in that?
Till next time~
