Chapter 3: Wake me up. Put me back to sleep...into my nightmare...into my real life?

~one month later...~

~Max's P.o.V.~

"You had the baby?!" I asked, shouldering my cell phone while ringing up the customer. I was in a Hot Topic in Virginia. The person I was ringing up happened to be a preppy bitch. A poser preppy bitch. She glared at me. I glared back and handed her change and her bag over. She turned on her heel and left. I rolled my eyes and listened to Sarah, pulling myself up on the front counter.

"So...hey is Meg with you?" I asked.

"Yea, she's right here, we're having dinner together..." she answered.

"I thought I heard her in the background," I replied,"How is she?"

"She's good, Tory is playing with Rowan right now...they're so cute together!"

"...Rowan?"

"Meg's daughter...she's almost two months old now...didn't you--"

Someone cut her short and Meg came on the phone,"Hey Max," she said cheerily.

"You didn't call when you had the baby," I said softly.

"I--I'm sorry, Max..." she replied quietly.

I fake laughed as someone walked in, catching my eye,"It's f---, Oh my God!" I said, looking at the guy who walked in. "What?" Meg asked. "Let's talk later, okay?" I said,"Love ya, bye." I ran at the guy and jumped at him, hugging him,"Brian!" I said. He smiled and hugged back. He looked the same as I remembered him; green spiked hair, black eyeliner and black nail polish. He was taller now though. But still wearing those black band shirts and spiked wristbands. He had worked at the Hot Topic where I lived back in New Mexico. We had gone out once...or twice...and just given up. "Gods...seeing you now..." I said, smiling. "Brings back old memories, eh?" he replied, fluffing my hair,"Died it black..." I struck a pose, making him laugh,"And you're wearing that Happy Bunny shirt! Sexy, haha..." he said softly. I rolled my eyes,"What are you doing here anyway?" I asked, perking a brow. "You're looking at University of Richmond's newest hair dresser student," he said, taking a slight bow. I laughed lightly,"Well...the newest hair dresser student gets something on the house from Hot Topic, I say," I said, smiling. "You won't get in trouble for that will you?" he asked, as he went through some new hoodies. I shrugged,"I'll take it off my check...think of it as repaying for my dye job last time we actually saw each other," I said, sitting cross legged on the counter again. He looked up at me and smiled,"What's it been...almost 3 years since we actually saw each other?" he asked softly, walking towards me. I nodded lightly. "I talked to InuYasha a few days ago...before I left...he said--" he began, I interrupted though. "Whatever he said about our seperation...is half truth...but I don't regret it now," I said sternly. He smirked,"So...you won't mind going out to dinner with me tonight...old time's sake?" he asked. I smiled, jumping down and gripping his shirt collar, kissing him on the lips. "That's a yes..." he whispered. I nodded lightly.

~a few hours later...~

We lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling. Brian broke the silence,"That was an interesting way to spend dinner..." he said, smirking at me. I punched him lightly in the arm, kissing him on the cheek. "You know it was the best dinner time you ever spent," I said, smiling. He kissed back.

It was later that I was staring at my ceiling alone. He was crashed out next to me, sleeping soundly. I shook my head, shaking away my thoughts and eventually...falling asleep.

I dreamt and saw Brian's face...and it turned into InuYasha...

He danced with me as Kim, Meg and Sarah watched. All of a sudden, the three of them disappeared and I fell into my bed...at my home where I'd lived with my mom and brother. InuYasha brushed my lips and faded away. In the dream, I looked at myself in the mirror. Then I seemed to just...go back my life back then...

I screamed when I woke up. My dream had slowly reeled into a nightmare. It had turned into my life...before...everything. I even dreamt about the day I'd said goodbye to Kim...when she left for college...

I shook my head...was that just a day ago...or was it years ago?

I woke up again...for real this time, I think. Brian looked at me, brushing my hair a bit,"You were kicking..." he said worriedly. My forehead was hot and sweaty. "I...had a bad dream..." I whispered. He patted my shoulder,"Well, it's over now..." he said. "Yea...yea, I hope..." I whispered hoarsely. "Yea...I better get going soon..." he said softly.

A bit later he was gone...

I felt sick. Something was wrong...but I didn't know what... I started sobbing,"I just want to go back to sleep...I don't want to wake up anymore..." I whispered to nothing. To no one...

~Kim's P.o.V.~

I stared at disbelief in the thing in front of me. Seto...with another woman. Again. I watched them kiss from my car. They were completely unaware. Completely blissful. Reika and Aerylis began complaining in their car seats,"Mommy...I wanna go home! Somefink's wrong, Mommy...I wanna see Auntie Max!" Aerylis whined. "Auntie Max is sad, Mommy...let's go see her..." Reika added. "Shhh...we're going to surprise Daddy..." I whispered hoarsely. The woman was beautiful...probably smart too... I started crying softly as I unbuckled the twins and walked to the front of Kaiba Corp. "Is that a fwiend of Daddy's, Mommy?" Reika asked, pointing to the woman. Her name tag flashed in the sunlight...Veronica. Pretty, beautiful, smart, blonde, perfect haired Veronica. She was hugging him now, laughing. Aerylis ran to Kaiba and tugged on his leg. "Lissy..?" he asked softly, picking her up. "Hi Daddy!" Reika said, smiling toothily. He looked up and caught my eye. I stood there, crossing my arms as a breeze hit me, blowing my trench coat. I wiped my eyes and glared. Little Veronica jumped to attention,"And...I'll...check those files for you, Mr. Kaiba sir..." she said fakely. "Fuck off, bitch," I said viciously. Reika and Aerylis stared,"Is...she a bad wady?" Aerylis whispered. "Aerylis, shush!" Kaiba yelled. "Don't yell at her!" I yelled at him. "I'm gonna go...Seto...sweetheart..." Veronica said. I gave her my worst look. She was shaking in her hooker boots. Kaiba breathed slowly,"Kim...listen...I can explain..." he said softly. "Just like when I was pregnant, right?! I mean, everything was perfect then, we had two little girls on the way! And everything's perfect now, we HAVE the two little girls! A PERFECT FUCKING LIFE, KAIBA! BUT YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT! FUCK...YOU!" I screamed, crying. People stared and Reika and Aerylis started crying. "Kim..." he whispered. "Shut up...I...want a divorce...I can't handle you...we had a dream, Kaiba...we had a dream together...we were together...that WAS the dream...thanks for finally waking me up!" I yelled, taking Reika and Aerylis' hands and walking off. "KIM!" he yelled after me. "FUCK YOU!" I screamed back. I drove away with Reika and Aerylis. Within a few hours, we'd packed our things and I was on my way to a hotel and contacting my lawyer. I couldn't take it anymore. I'd given him everything...for what? A dream...a dream...it was all forever a fucking dream. As I stared at my two little girls...my perfect girls...my dream girls...it hit me; I was only halfway awake. But...would letting go of them...be worth my pain...
