A MATTER OF THE SOUL

 

Chapter 13

 

Hiei had been lounging at Kurama's house, informing him on what had happened at the club, when he had apparently fallen asleep. His eyes snapped open to be greeted with glowing gold eyes staring at him from across Kurama's room. The dream he'd just had was strange if not disturbing. At first he thought it had been caused by having seen Kagome at the club. This sort of thing did seem to happen whenever they were near each other. The mental growl he heard from Yoko told him he was not alone in his “suffering”.

 

^ That woman seemed…^

 

= Familiar. = Kurama finished for the irate kitsune.

 

*I think… I may know who she was… * using his Jagan he searched out the aura of the woman from the club. He couldn't help rolling through his own musings. The dream he had had was similar to what he had experienced with Kagome the first time they'd met. It seemed strange that Kurama had experienced it as well this time.

 

There had been another in the dream. A second set of illuminated gold eyes, Yusuke. But why would Kagome have sent them this dream as well? To his knowledge Kurama and Yusuke had not come in contact with her since the first time they had met her. It made his jealousy flare in possessive rage at the thought of her being with someone else. Even one of his friends.

 

He finally targeted Kagome. She had just awoken from the same dream. He had the mental image of her on her ass on the carpet. He heard the scream she let out and chuckled quietly. He watched in his mind as she walked to the door, eyes ablaze with a violet light. Just how many colors did her eyes change?

 

He followed her movements in the man's lap, bringing his own unfulfillment and possessiveness to his attention. He noticed her spine stiffen, as she stopped. He felt her aura shift and when she turned toward him. He was shocked to she that she had completely reverted to her human appearance. Was she a shape shifter? To be able to change her appearance and warp her aura enough for the other youkai to not have recognized her as a miko, she must be. Did it have to do with being able to control both holy energy and youki? Like she wasn't enough of a puzzle before. He let out an irritated sigh. God, he needed some fresh air.

 

After giving Kurama a brief and slightly detail-lacking description of his findings, he left through the window. He stealthily leapt from rooftops and tree branches. Hiei was lost in his own thoughts and his body was on auto pilot. He didn't even realized when his feet landed in their destination. He stood, firm and still, under a great tree in an undisturbed wildlife preserve. The wind shifted and his attention was drawn to a powerful, yet familiar energy signature. Kagome was here. Without hesitation, he took of toward where he thought her to be.

It's kind of how I imagine things being, if Naraku got the jewel, made himself a full demon, and killed off the entire Inuyasha group.
