Bloody Fangs
Chapter 1
The preposition
She felt her heart beat in her throat. Sweat trickled down her forehead as her breathing increased. She had never felt this way before, and the question to herself was…why hadn't she?
~*~
Kagome Higurashi. Aka: the Vampire Exterminator. Most famous to those of the undead and devil's little children; her job was to get rid of them.
She only killed vampires when necessary. As in self defense; or if they committing heinous crimes like killing humans for fun.
But for now she was trapped in a low lit office. Heat pounded against her skin like many little hammers. Her hair glued to her head while her eyes sparkled lively in the light.
Many plain white walls surrounded her. She didn't even have a window. Talk about Closter phobia!
She stared. Starring deeply at his face but not daring to look into his eyes. She was his best friend before he died. Before he became…one of them. She was disgusted and damn right confused.
"Kagome?" His voice said in that low deep soothing sound. Reminded her so much like the ocean. She guessed that part never changed. She stared at his crimson hair. He looked exactly what a vampire would look. Black clothes, a button down shirt with a long trench coat, also black. He wore white gloves and black shoes. She noticed the two bite marks on his neck and a burnt cross was implanted in his skin of the right arm.
She sighed heavily.
"State your business…Kurama." She said with a slight anger to his name. She was a little irritated at the moment.
He shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. He neatly folded his arms and crossed his legs. It almost looked lady like to Kagome and she fought hard against the urge to laugh.
His pause was long as if re-thinking his thoughts. A sigh escaped from his mouth and he cleared his throat.
"There has been a lot of vampires murders. It has overtaken our attention." He spoke like a true professional. "We want to hire you."
What made Kagome stop and think was the word "we". What did he mean we? He was working for someone or something. But who?
"Hire me? For what? Who's your mast Kurama?" She asked sharply. Raising an eyebrow at him, still not looking at his eyes.
"We want you to find the murderer. You will meet my master eventually." His voice was so calm, he still acted human even if he was a vampire. She despised him.
"What if I refuse?" She dared to ask. Grinning slightly.
She felt his gaze grow cold. She knew he was looking at her like a cat would to a mouse. The eager urge to strike out and kill. She shivered.
"I wouldn't do that." He said lowly, a threat. But still very kind. As if he couldn't make up his mind or something.
She looked to stare at his forehead. She had been preoccupied with his scar of the cross. But she still knew that if she stared into his eyes, he'd have her. A trance you would call it.
"Why?" She asked.
"They'll kill me."
"Let them try."
"Kagome…I would take this offer. We'll pay you!"
`Now they're bribing me? Boy are they desperate.'
"No."
"No?" He asked it like a question! She said no why didn't he live with it.
"We'll pay you." He went on.
"Oh yea…how much?"
"1,000,000 yen."
"Sorry, no."
"Why?!"
Kagome despised that word. Besides "how", "why" was on the top five. She was tired of this petty argument and stood. Brushed past Kurama and opened the door. Gesturing him to get the hell out.
"You should go now." She said calmly.
"Give me one reason and I'll depart."
She huffed. He was difficult even when he was dead. Still the same old Kurama she knew.
"Tell them I have no wish to oblige with vampires. If you don't recall I kill you kind." She spoke in harsh matter.
"I see." He stood and glided towards her and the open door. Vampires seemed to be really good at that. He stopped before he went out and faced her.
"Do you hate me now Kagome?"
Kagome froze. What kind of question was this?! Did she hate him? Well she acted like it, but did she truly hate him. Well what if…
She opened her mouth to talk when two fingers pressed lightly against her lips.
"No…it's okay. You don't have to answer me. I'm sorry for turning my back on you."
Kagome mentally gasped when his face came foreward. His cheek brushed against hers and he whispered lightly into her ear.
"I don't want you hurt. You're so precious to me. Don't forget that." His head turned and he kissed her on the cheek.
He glided out the door closing it behind him. Not daring to look back at the tough as nails, baffled, pink cheeked…Kagome.
