Chapter 11
Leiko stood proud before Naraku for she bowed to no one. She knew she was tempting fate to smite her down for her attitude in his presence but it did not concern her. Naraku had need of her services, so for now she was safe. Naraku smirked, he liked the fire that burned in this sorceress. He would take great pleasure in extinguishing that fire in a most brutal way once he was finished with her.
He stood and circled her, running a finger along the bare skin of her neck. She would refuse him nothing, not even the use of her body if he so desired. He would sample her flesh later, indeed he would but for now he needed something else. Desires of the body could wait.
“You are familiar with the group hunting the fragments of the Shikon Jewel are you not Leiko?”
“Indeed I am Master Naraku. They've become quite the bur in your side haven't they?”
“Hmm yes, they have. I tire of playing with them, you will eliminate them for me Leiko. And I want it done tonight.”
Leiko gazed arrogantly at the dark hanyou. She was not surprised this was why she was summoned. She was one of the best Sorceresses alive, her spells well sought after. She would do as he asked, but she was uncertain as to what method he wanted her to use.
“And how am I to accomplish this task Master Naraku?”
Naraku smiled cruelly. He had watched jealously over the years as the relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome had grown. It was bad enough that Inuyasha had gotten her incarnation to fall in love with him but now the younger Priestess as well. It would not do at all. He was well aware of the hate that followed Kikyo into hell when he slaughtered her in the guise of her lover. Inuyasha would again betray the one he loved, only this time he would actually be the one to deal the deathblow, not a puppet.
“You are an expert on all forms of mind control are you not?”
Leiko smiled, she could see where this was going. It would be amusing for her, she hadn't had the opportunity to attempt control on a hanyou before. It would be interesting to say the least.
“I am. Am I to assume you want me to invade Inuyasha's mind?”
“Yes Leiko, I want you to take control of his mind but, leave enough of his senses intact that he knows every thing that he is doing. I want his mind shattered before he is sent to his death. Have him kill the girl, but make her death the last of the group. I want her to see everything her lover has done before she dies by his hands.”
Leiko smiled, this would be entirely too much fun for her to do. She turned to leave without a word. Naraku knew she would do as he had bid of her. She had much to prepare for the evenings events.
Naraku watched her leave and then summoned Kanna into the room. The little albino girl stood by his side emotionless, waiting for him to command her. She of all his detachments was by his side the most frequently. Her mirror was the one thing that kept him one step ahead of the group. But tonight that would all change.
****************************************************************< /div>
Leiko stood in a dark, windowless room. Darkness was needed for all of her potions, sunlight reduced the effectiveness of them. She hummed to herself lightly as she ground a sweet smelling herb into a powder. Once that was accomplished she combined it with another powder and began chanting over the mixture. A green light flared briefly over the bowl that held it and gradually faded away. It was now ready, she would set off to fulfill her mission for Naraku. He would reward her greatly for her services.
She left the room quickly, it was nearing midnight. She would have to get there soon if she were to accomplish everything she needed to do before the sun rose. Lacing her fingers together she spoke an incantation under her breath. The air about her shimmered and she faded from sight, transporting herself a short distance away from where Inuyasha and the others rested for the night.
She looked around getting her bearings before setting off. She was only about half a mile from their camp. A quick spell was cast that cleansed her body of any lingering traces of Naraku's scent on her body and those of the ingredients used in her potion. The stage was set, now she just had to act the part of a lost traveler.
Inuyasha dozed lightly with Kagome still leaning up against him. She had woken several times through the evening in pain, she had finally broke down and took some of the pain killing medicine that she always carried with her in case of emergencies. Tylenol wouldn't do in this instance, instead she relied on a tea that Kaede had given them. Now she slept peacefully but Inuyasha was still alert even in sleep in case she needed him.
His ears moved as he caught the slightest sound of movement. It brought him out of his doze, watchful to see if it was normal forest noise or something else. There it was again, he was positive it sounded like someone walking. He glanced at the rest of his companions, they were all asleep. It would be him that needed to go and investigate what was coming towards camp.
He looked down at Kagome again, loath to put her down on the ground. He buried his nose in her hair inhaling deeply. He loved her smell, regardless of what he had told her so long ago. Sighing softly he gently eased himself out from under her and laid her down upon the ground. Moving quickly he disappeared into the forest determined to find out who dared to approach.
Leiko heard him coming, he wasn't exactly being discreet about his approach. It was obvious he wanted her to know he was coming. That suited her just fine, she was ready for him. Schooling her face into one of terror she waited for him.
Inuyasha stopped when he saw her. It was a lone woman wandering the forest in the middle of the night. Was she lost? He scented the air, he couldn't pick up anything on her aside from the scent of fear. He approached her calmly, there was no reason to scare the woman more. Kagome would have his head on a platter if he did so and he knew it.
“Woman are you lost?”
Leiko looked up at the inu hanyou and shrunk back against a tree playing her role perfectly. She could see that he was falling for it, his demeanor was already changing quickly going from challenging to comforting in a matter of moments.
“I am, can you help me?”
Inuyasha nodded to her and moved closer, careful not to scare her any further. He would lead her back to the camp, tomorrow they could see about taking her wherever she needed to go. Perhaps Sango would be willing to transport her on Kirara. He wasn't exactly happy about the delay this would cause in getting Kagome to the village but they couldn't exactly leave this woman out to her own devices.
“Yeah, follow me we've got a camp set up for the night. You can stay with us tonight and tomorrow we'll get you where you need to be.”
“Thank you kindly.”
She followed behind him timidly, after all it wouldn't be normal for a woman of the time to not show some concern with following a strange person through the night. She would have to act quickly though. It was likely to be a loud affair when she first cast the spell on him before she subdued him. However he was too far ahead of her to accomplish what needed to be done.
Inuyasha's ears swiveled back when he heard the woman fall heavily to the ground. He had forgotten that at this time of night visibility was next to nonexistent for humans. Her cry of pain alerted him to the fact that she had hurt herself. He turned back, kneeling next to her while she clutched her ankle.
“I'm so sorry, I think I twisted my ankle.”
“Feh, I should have known you couldn't see as well as I could. Here, let me help you up. I can give you a ride to the camp Miss ?”
“My name is Lei, thank you. I still do not know your name though.”
“Inuyasha”
Leiko allowed him to help her up to her feet. She balanced precariously on one foot while he knelt down in front of her so she could climb on his back. While he was turned away from her she reached into the folds of her kimono and pulled out the first potion. When he turned back to look at her to see what was taking her so long she blew the powder towards him.
Inuyasha was startled and then the powder hit him. At first he sneezed and then his mind kicked into overdrive as he leapt away from the woman. He didn't know what the hell she was up to but he wasn't going to allow her close to him again.
“What the fuck did you do to me?”
Inuyasha yelled to her, hoping his voice would awaken his companions but he didn't hold out much hope of that. They were still too far away. He could only hope that whatever it was that she tainted him with he could resist.
Leiko watched with an amused grin, no longer playing the part of the lost, injured female. Soon enough he would be under her control totally and she could enjoy the show. It wouldn't take very long for the potion to take affect.
“Just a little spell but you already know that don't you? Can't you feel it, hasn't the pain already begun? Don't resist Inuyasha, the pain will only grow stronger the more you fight it. Give yourself over to me and make the pain end.”
“No way in hell bitch!”
Inuyasha went down to one knee as the pain in his head grew. He wasn't sure what the spell was supposed to do but obviously it wasn't going to be good. He had to fight it with all he had. Unfortunately for him, his best would not be good enough this time.
Leiko waited for the telltale signs of Inuyasha losing the battle. When he started sweating uncontrollably with the exertion she struck melding her mind within his. Inuyasha's eyes grew wide when he felt her presence invading. He was powerless to stop her and realized in horror what exactly it was she was doing. He fought harder as she began locking his mind behind a barrier, one which he could not escape from.
Leiko walked up to the fallen hanyou smiling down at him. He was powerless to stop her now, his body under her control. She decided to torment him further, knowing he could do nothing to stop her.
“You know Inuyasha you were entirely too trusting. I'm sure you're wondering who I am and why I am here.”
Indeed it was the burning question coursing through his mind as he raged against the barrier that had him locked in place.
“I shall satisfy your curiosity. My name is Leiko, I am sure you have heard of me. Naraku decided he has tired of the games you play with him and it is my job to eliminate you. It is a pity I have to kill you and the others. You would make such a cute pet in my bedroom but alas I don't have time to tame you. This must be completed tonight, I do hope you understand.”
Inuyasha was horrified, she was going to kill the others and it was obvious she was going to use him as the instrument of their destruction. He could only hope that Sango and Miroku would awaken before she forced him to kill anyone. Kagome was injured and helpless, there was no way she would survive an attack from him.
“Let us get on with it then. Come my pet, we have work to do.”
He continued to struggle against the bonds that held his mind in place as his body rose from the ground under her control. Helplessly he followed after her heading back towards his camp where the others slept, unaware of the fact that death was coming for them all.
They stopped at the edge of the clearing, Leiko taking in the positioning of the occupants. Naraku wanted the priestess dead last after seeing everything her lover had done. So be it. She took the second vial of powder she had and summoned a gentle breeze that carried it through the campsite. She waited for it to settle, making sure it took effect pushing the occupants deeper into sleep that they would never wake from.
“Kill the neko and the kitsune first my pet. Make it messy.”
Inuyasha struggled harder but to no avail. Against his will he made his way quietly into camp and stopped at Kirara first. She would be the one to give him the most trouble between her and Shippou should they awaken. In a heartbeat crimson blood was spilled upon the ground as he slashed her throat open with his razor claws. The only sound she made was a gurgle as she took her last breath. Unceremoniously he dropped her limp body on the ground.
He walked over to Shippou and picked him up as well. If by some chance Kagome did manage to make it through this alive the fact that he had killed Shippou was going to destroy her and he knew it. She considered him family, they were as close to each other as she was with her brother Souta. He wished there was some way he could stop this, or that there was someone who would awaken and stop this madness from happening. However his prayers went unanswered
“Kill him.”
Leiko's voice rang out through the clearing and she exerted her will on him. In horror he watched as his claws shredded through the tiny body, disemboweling him. Shippou's eyes opened wide in shock, the sleeping spell wearing off of him. He managed a loud scream which should have woken the others had it not been for the spell. The sound was abruptly cut off when his head was severed from his body.
Leiko smirked, two down two to go. And then the Priestess. She was enjoying herself immensely, she could feel the anguish running through Inuyasha's mind. Perhaps she would let him mind go at the last moment as he killed Kagome. She would love to see how he reacted physically to the knowledge he had murdered his love and friends.
“Now the slayer my pet.”
Obediently he turned towards Sango who was on the other side of the camp. It was only a matter of moments before her blood coated his claws as well. He had torn her limb from limb scattering the pieces around camp. Inside his mind Inuyasha was quickly breaking down, the horror of what he was being forced to do was too much for him to take. He didn't want to watch anymore, he knew what was coming next. But the witch would not even give him that much peace, she forced him to watch.
“And the Monk. Finish him quickly, I wish to see you with the Priestess soon. How does it feel my pet, knowing that you are to kill your love?”
In a flash he was next to Miroku, a quick snap of the neck ended his life with no bloodshed. He continued to fight his body as he walked up to the woman he loved. He knew that whatever it was that Leiko had planned for her it would be slow and painful.
***********************************************************
Back in the present, Kurama was relaxing in his home. He was restless though, for some reason neither Youko nor himself could sleep and it was driving them both mad. Their dreams lately had been plagued by thoughts of Kagome. Kurama wasn't sure how much of that was Youko's influence, he wanted to get his hands on the girl desperately.
Normally the dreams would not have surprised him, Youko was a very sexual creature. It was the feelings that laced themselves through the dreams that shocked him. Youko had gone far beyond being infatuated with the girl, even beyond the point of being obsessed. Youko wanted to possess the girl in mind, body and soul. He wanted her to never think of another man. The same way she had managed to ensnare him.
Kurama was unsure of how to feel about all this, he was curious about the girl yes. She was certainly attractive and extremely powerful but he knew next to nothing about her personality. How could Youko have fallen for the girl so easily?
`Power calls to power my boy. The same as one soul calls to another, what you humans commonly term as soul mates.'
`Do you mean to tell me this girl is your soul mate?'
`No Red, I'm saying she is our soul mate, we are a package deal after all.'
Could he love the girl? Kurama was uncertain but he knew that he was going to find out. He was unsure as to what would happen if he couldn't stand to be around her. Youko quite obviously was unwilling to give her up, even to the point of being willing to fight the inu hanyou for rights to claim the girl. His life took some interesting turns that was for certain.
`Nothing is ever boring with me around, you should know that.'
Kurama refrained from commenting, once again trying to decide what exactly it was that he wanted to do. He couldn't calm down enough to even read a book he was that worked up. He went out to his balcony and looked up at the stars. He wondered if Kagome was sleeping under them tonight. It was a definite point in her favor that she liked the outdoors. A gentle breeze kicked up and blew through his hair.
`We should go out Red.'
`Go out where though Youko?'
Youko considered, there wasn't really anything either of them wanted to do tonight but anything was better than staying cooped up inside. Perhaps Kurama would be willing to let him out for the night. It was late, everything was quite. They could go for a run through the forest, perhaps that would be enough to settle there nerves. Youko couldn't help but think something was going to happen tonight, something big.
`Let's go for a run through the forest.'
`I'm assuming you want out for this too right?'
`Of course, when is the last time I had the chance to really get out?'
Kurama laughed at his counterpart. `When we went and retrieved the sword.'
`That was business though, I'm talking about a pleasure run. Honestly Red it's dull just watching what is going on. Let me out for a few hours, we'll take to the forest and enjoy ourselves. No one will see us.'
`Fine, but wait until we get there, we don't want to be spotted.'
That was perfectly acceptable to Youko, he wasn't about to argue. Not when a chance for a few hours of freedom was at stake. He settled back comfortably in his mind and waited. It wouldn't be long before he had his chance to be out.
***************************************************************** ****
Kagome awoke to the burning pain coursing through her chest when Inuyasha pulled her up and off of the ground by her arm. There was something wrong with him, she could tell immedietly. His eyes did not look sane at all. She glanced around the camp, looking for her friends. For a moment, her mind was unable to process the horror that lay before her.
All of her friends, dead. Blood was splattered everywhere, body parts flung around carelessly. It had to be a dream, there was no way that Inuyasha would turn on them like that. But as the pain continued and Inuyasha's hot breath hit her skin she came to the awful realization that this was no dream.
There was a strange woman she had never seen before watching them. Her cruel smirk said it all, somehow she was behind this. She had to be, there was no way Inuyasha would willingly do this.
Another question came to her, why hadn't anyone awoken while this was going on? Surely none of this had been silent while it was happening. She knew she had taken the painkillers earlier but even so, she didn't think she would sleep through something like this. Inuyasha shook her to regain her attention when she lingered too long on Leiko's figure. A slight dusting fell off of her clothing giving her the answer to her question. They had been put under some sort of spell.
Leiko was displeased, Inuyasha had not started his work on the girl yet. She would have to force his hand. She gripped his mind brutally forcing her will on him. Kagome watched as he brought a clawed hand up and realized what it was that he was going to do to her.
“Inuyasha! Please don't do this! Fight her, I know you can do it. I love you!”
He heard every word she said and yet it didn't make a difference, his body still refused to obey him. He felt his claws rake down her body leaving bloody gashes through her soft skin. He had dreamed of having his hands on her body but never like this. If he could have, he would have gotten sick where he stood.
Over and over again he sliced her, never deep enough to kill only cause extreme pain. Her screams filled the air, but there was no one to hear her. He licked his claws clean of her blood, acting as if he were savoring the taste. In reality, Leiko could feel everything he was doing to her. The taste of the girls blood was heavenly. Sweet, laced with power. Power that could not affect her since she was not a demon. She was enjoying this immensely.
Kagome didn't want to hurt him, she knew that is she wasn't careful her power would break free and she would purify him. She didn't want to do that to him, he was under a spell and could not be held accountable for his actions. She prayed that someone would come to save her before she did the unthinkable. He slashed at her again, this time driving his claws in deep. Blood poured from the new wound, she felt faint. It wouldn't be long before she bled to death at this rate.
`Someone save me. Please!'
Hiei's head snapped up having heard the mental call. The voice was familiar, it took him a moment to place it. The girl he had followed. She was obviously in trouble somehow. He shook his head, she probably wandered off from the group again and ran into a demon. One of her companions could save her, it wasn't his job. He owed her nothing so why bother?
The cry came again, more desperate than before. Perhaps the girl was in serious trouble. He scented the wind and his eyes widened slightly. Blood, and a lot of it was laced through the wind. Whatever was going on was serious. He caught the scent of her companions, the scent of their blood was heavy in the air. Without knowing exactly why he darted off in their direction to see what exactly was going on. If whatever it was that did this was powerful enough to take the group down then it might be powerful enough for him to consider it a good hunt. He was not prepared for the sight he ran into.
The girl was bleeding profusely while being held off the ground by the hanyou. Hadn't he loved her? So why was he torturing her as he was? She was screaming at him, trying to get him to stop. Something about this entire thing was wrong though, something was off. Her companions lay around dead, but there was a new person in the group.
He knew her, she was well known for her ability to control others. It was people like her he despised. She had control of Inuyasha's mind, and while he may not like the hanyou he wasn't going to watch him slaughter the girl due to Leiko's control. He unsheathed his katana and stalked the Sorceress, she would be easy prey to him. She didn't know what hit her as his sword bit through her flesh, her jugular slashed. Blood poured from the wound and she collapsed on the ground. Her life blood rapidly being absorbed into the ground.
Kagome unfortunately was on the brink of losing consciousness and her hold on her purifying energy slipped as his claws drove in a final time. Bright pink light flared around the couple as it was unleashed. She managed to get a small hold back onto it before it turned him to ash. It was at that moment that Hiei had killed Leiko and reason returned to his eyes. Inuyasha and Kagome hit the ground simultaneously.
Hiei watched on, the hanyou was finished. There was no way his demon blood could handle such a massive amount of holy energy, it was only a matter of time before his body gave out.
“Please forgive me.”
His breath came in short pants, his body screaming in agony. He hoped she would be able to forgive him for what he had done. He looked at her, horrified at what he had done to her and the others. She would be lucky if she lived. She would need medical attention immedietly, and now all hope of her getting it was gone.
“I know it wasn't you Inuyasha. I'm so sorry, I tried to stop it.'
Inuyasha smiled at her, letting the love he had for her shine through. The end was near, his vision was darknening. He reached a blood soaked hand up and caressed her cheek. She pressed her face against his hand, acknowledging the gesture.
“I… love you… Kagome.”
Inuyasha took a final breath, his eyes glazing over. His hand dropped limply to the ground and Kagome stared numbly at him. He was gone. She stood shakily, unsure how long she would be able to last before she bled to death. There was no hope for her now. She wished she could bury her friends but she had no energy. Her thoughts turned to her family, they would never know what happened to her. She thought of how they would worry, wondering if she were alive. The hope that they would carry that she would one day come home.
She thought of giving up, and letting death take her but she couldn't do that. If she were to die, she would go down fighting every step of the way. She had to get home, if only to see her family one last time. That way they would know, her soul could rest easy knowing her family was not tormented with thoughts of where she was.
Hiei watched the girl turn and walk away. He was surprised she was still standing at that point, she was clearly out of it, she hadn't noticed his presence. It wasn't surprising considering her condition and the amount of energy she had poured into the blast that killed her lover. He wondered if he should follow her. He was curious exactly how far it was she would get on her own before her body gave out.
She was now talking to herself. It gave her something to concentrate on while she was walking so she didn't give in to her fatigue. He listened to her talk about going home. And how she had to make it to the well. What did a well have to do with anything? He didn't have any idea and dismissed it as being a part of her delirium.
Her was impressed with how far she was able to make it in her condition before she finally collapsed, unable to go any further. He was still curious where she was going though. His mind made up he went to her, her blue eyes finally meeting his red ones.
“It's you.”
He nodded and knelt down next to her. He despised physical contact but there was no other way to find the answers to his questions. He picked her up gently, mindful of her injuries and sped off in the direction she had been heading.
“Where are we going?”
“To Kaede's village. Continue going this direction, we'll run into it.”
Nothing more was said as they ran on, Kagome fought to keep herself awake. This demon was fast, very, very fast. At the rate of speed he was going they would be there soon. He was faster than she had even seen Lord Sesshoumaru move.
They arrived at the village about two hours later. It was quiet, everyone was asleep. He looked down at the girl in his arms in silent question. Where did he need to take her? She seemed to understand what he wanted though and pointed through the village.
“There is a well just outside the village. Please take me there?”
He continued on, unsure of what the hell she was talking about but did as she asked anyway. Soon they were at a well, in the middle of the clearing. He could see nothing special about it but the smell of old magic was obvious. He stopped beside it and set the girl down. She stood on shaky legs and looked at him, her eyes full of gratitude.
“Thank you for bringing me here. Now I can go home.”
The well was her home? Or would take her home? She had clearly lost her mind he figured. He was surprised when she reached forward. He was almost tempted to allow her to fall to the ground but he didn't move. He was already covered in her scent after all from him carrying her. She wrapped her arms around the strange demon and hugged him before pulling herself away with a small, sad smile. She whispered a goodbye to him and he watched as she pulled herself up on the edge of the well.
He was tempted to reach out and stop her from the insanity she was clearly intending. She was going to toss herself into the well! But he stopped himself, she was obviously too far gone to save, her mind seemed to have been shattered by what had happened.
Kagome fell forward into the well and Hiei watched in surprise as blue light engulfed her. When the light cleared he stared, shocked. The girl was gone.
***************************************************************** **
Kurama stood at the edge of the forest. It was nice out tonight, perfect for letting Youko out. Youko was anxious of course. He rarely was given the chance to come out and be one with nature no matter how much Kurama worked with plants on a daily basis. Kurama quickly checked to make certain that there was no one around before letting Youko take over. Finding no one the silver mist gathered around them as Youko came to the front.
`Remember to behave yourself!'
`Come on Red, you know I will. Besides what could possibly happen tonight, in the middle of the forest? It's not like we are likely to run into anyone and even if we did, no one will see us unless I allow them to.'
Youko had a point but regardless, there wasn't much he could do about it even if something were to happen. Youko was the one in control now and it would be extremely difficult to reign him in if something were to happen. He could only sit back and enjoy the ride. The kitsune melted into the forest becoming one with it, heading for a destination fate had already determined for him. Neither of them could guess at what they would find on this particular night.
***************************************************************** *****
She felt the ground connect with her body on the other side of the well. She sat, exhausted and wondering how exactly she was going to pull herself out of the well. She had come too far to give in now, even if she did have help. Bracing herself for the pain she knew was coming she started to climb the ladder out of the well. Her ribs screamed in protest along with her other injuries but finally she made it out of the well and she stepped into the moonlight on the outside of the well house.
Darkness engulfed her as she lost consciousness for a moment. When she came too she was confused, what was it she was supposed to be doing again? She couldn't quite hold onto a thought for long. She pulled herself to her feet and wavered momentarily. She looked at the quiet house before her. She couldn't go in looking as she did, she would give her family a heart attack if they saw her. She didn't know where to go though. She had no one to turn to now and her body was close to giving out.
Silently she turned and walked towards the park that was a short distance from the shrine. She would rest there for a while. When she felt better she could clean herself up and see her family. Afterwards she would worry about the jewel. She had no idea how she was going to hunt for the shards now.
No one stopped her while she walked, of course there would have been questions asked if someone had seen her. Her appearance was horrifying to say the least. But there was no one out to witness the state that she was in. She stopped at the entrance to the park leaning heavily against the gate. She wanted to rest, she needed it desperately but here was not the place. Wearily she pushed herself away from it and continued on, deeper into the park.
Her body began working on instinct alone as her mind shut down. It knew that it was dying, and all things on the brink of death seek peace. A place to be alone where they will not be disturbed. It was then she turned towards the tree line and began walking through the woods. When she was far enough into them she sank down against the base of a large tree. Moss covered the ground making a soft blanket for her to sit on. She closed her eyes and waited for the pain to go away.
Youko stopped shortly, his eyes narrowed dangerously. Someone was out there in the forest and they were injured badly. He was tempted to ignore it and continue on his way but there was something about the scent that plagued him. It teased his senses, as if he knew who the smell belonged to but it was so distorted with other scents it was difficult to filter through to who it was.
`We should check, it could be someone we know.'
Youko agreed with him, there was no way he was going to ignore it. The faint scent of cinnamon came to mind. The only person he had smelled that on recently had been Kagome but this was far weaker than hers had been. If it was the girl she had been drained of power somehow and the scent of blood in the air enraged him. If it was her she was close to death and that was completely unacceptable. He raced off in the direction the scent was coming from.
`Calm down Youko, it may not be her.'
`You don't know that!'
`We'll find out soon enough, we're getting close.'
Indeed they were, he could see a figure slumped on the ground against a tree. He approached cautiously. If it was the girl he didn't want to startle her and end up being purified in the process. As he moved closer to her he realized in horror that it was the girl.
`What the hell happened to her?'
`No idea but we are going to find out.'
Youko's mind voice was laced with anger, whoever had done this to her would pay with their lives. His protective instincts kicked up a notch and he knelt beside her taking note of every injury that was visible. The girl needed help badly, unfortunately most measures would fail in the attempt to heal her. They had two options to them. They could mark her sealing the blood bond between them that would anchor her to this world feeding her energy with their own. It would allow her body to take the energy her body needed to recover or they could allow her to die.
`I'm going to mark her, there is no other way.'
`Youko you can't do that! Not without asking her first!'
Youko snarled at his counterpart, they were wasting precious time. The girl could slip away from them at any moment and Shuichi was arguing with him. Did he want the girl to die?
`You know I don't Youko but you can't just make someone your life mate without asking them.'
Youko sighed and gently touched the girl, hoping she wasn't too far gone to awaken. Kagome opened her eyes slightly, unsure of what had disturbed her. She couldn't see clearly, her vision kept fading. But she was able to see golden eyes that belonged to whoever had woken her up.
“Inuyasha?”
Was it really him? She couldn't tell for certain but whoever it was made her feel at peace. She allowed her eyes to drift shut once more. They would be together again soon.
“I'm coming my love, please wait for me.”
“Kagome we need to talk.”
Youko knew the girl was delirious but in order to satisfy Shuichi's insistence he brought her back once more. She looked at him clearly confused. Inuyasha wore red, not white. Perhaps he had come down from heaven in order to bring her home. His arms circles her carefully. It was comforting. She leaned against him, taking in his strength thankful for his presence.
Youko breathed in deeply, taking in every scent on her, he would figure out who had hurt her. His rage flared to life once more. There was scent on her, one that he was very familiar with and she was covered in it. She had been in contact with Hiei recently. And for her to have that much of his smell on her she had to be touching him. There was only one reason he knew of that Hiei would have touched someone like that. And considering the damage that was done to her there was only one conclusion he could come to. Hiei had been the one to attack her. It was unforgivable.
Author's Note: I am sorry to leave this chapter at such a cliffhanger but I'm already up to 17 pages on word. I think that's quite enough for one chapter, the next one will be out sometime tonight as long as my hands don't fall off from typing so much. You all can imagine the confrontation that is coming up between Youko and Hiei. I'm evil I know it but never fear, Hiei will come through it fine.
Reviewer Responses:
Kira the wolf demon: Yep, they met again and will continue to meet in future chapters. She won't meet Youko in the past, he isn't in Japan back in that time frame for this story. Inuyasha will most likely not make any more appearances unless it is in dreams. We will see how he reacts to the upcoming relationship between her and Kurama.
LeiLei: I agree, my muses are being the biggest pains I can think of at the moment. Plenty of characters ended up on the block this chapter. I have designs on bringing some characters back but I'm not sure yet as to who in the Inu group. Probably Shippo or Kirara in all honesty if any of them. I'm still toying with bringing Kuronue back to life. We will see.
Lady_Banshee_999 : I feel bad about killing Inu off but it had to be done. Now I just have to work on getting the new relationship off the ground. Youko is already smitten by the girl. Now I have to deal with the Shuichi side. This should be fun. Mwahaha. Hopefully I surprised you with this chapter. In the one shot everyone but Kag died, so I wanted to stay with the same general plot line.
crazy-punk-gurl: In answer to your question yes Yusuke and Kuwabara will be making an appearance although do not expect much from Kuwabara in the fic. I am not at all familiar with his character aside from fanfics that make him out to be a complete idiot and I do not want to misrepresent him and make him OOC if that isn't exactly how he is.
phoenixs_paiste: I swear Kuronue is one of the more yummy characters. Drool to your hearts content, I certainly am. As for Shippou suffering I'm sorry but it had to be done. I hope the rest of the chapter made up for it though.
Arbor: Blame that sentence on my brain turning to goo as well. I really shouldn't attempt writing when I am tired but I cannot seem to help it. It was bad enough writing this chapter last night. I closed my eyes trying to play out exactly what I wanted to happen in my mind… and promptly fell asleep. That's why this was delayed so badly. I still haven't forgotten the diary idea either. I'm considering having it come into Kurama's possession if they go to the past. It will give him some insight into how she feels since she is so reluctant to open up to anyone. And Hiei may regret having kept his little secret from Kurama. Let's just say Youko is alittle bit pissed off at him at the moment. Poor Hiei….
Thanks for reviewing everyone, I look forward to your thoughts on this chapter!
