Commitments Made In Blood

Chapter 13

 

 

It was touch and go with Kagome's condition for the first two days. Youko constantly hovered over her, attending to her every need. He was determined that this girl was not going to die. He couldn't allow her to.

 

 

Shuichi could understand the level of concern that the kitsune had, hell he was concerned as well but he wondered at the strength of feelings Youko had for the girl already. As Youko had said to him the night they found her there was much about him that he hadn't told him yet. He was curious as to how much exactly how much had been withheld from him. Specifically about Kitsune bonding, the subject had never really come up before, having come to the conclusion that it was unlikely they were going to find a girl they both liked.

 

 

Well, now they had even if they didn't know her all that well. That was what was perhaps bugging him the most about the entire thing. She didn't even know their name! And now they were mated. What had happened to the lengthy courtship period most people went through? Youko chuckled at that stray thought, Shuichi could be so amusing at times.

 

 

`You and you silly human insecurities. I told you already, kitsune can see potential life partners at a glance and that is what has happened. So you didn't get a long courtship in, that is a waste of time in my opinion.'

 

 

`You're forgetting Youko, I am human as well. Even if you are trapped in my body. Well, most of the time anyway.'

 

 

Youko was thoroughly enjoying the fact that he had the upper hand at the moment. He didn't intend to give it up any time soon either, Shuichi rarely allowed him out to begin with. If he gave up control now there was no telling when he would have the chance to come out again.

 

 

`You're going to have to let me have control again sometime you know. It's going on three days now and we haven't spoken with anyone. What are you going to do when someone comes over to check on us?'

 

`I'll worry about that when the time comes. Don't worry yourself too much though, soon it won't be necessary for me to be out to hold her stable. You seen yourself how well her wounds are healing. Another day or two and she'll be out of the woods.'

 

 

`Physically yes, but emotionally? I hate to break it to you Youko but the few times she's responded to us it's been almost like her mind has been shattered.'

 

 

`Indeed I have noticed. Don't worry about that just yet. If it's possible to bring her back I'll be able to do it. The bond is a strong one.'

 

 

`You never did fully explain to me the details of Kitsune bonding.'

 

 

`I never had the reason to. Every race of demon has their own specifics of the bond, kitsune are no exception. However there are even differences between the individual types of kitsune. Depending on the variety you are dealing with determines the strength of the bond.'

 

 

`Sounds fascinating, please continue.'

 

 

`Well, certain types of kitsune such as Mountain, Forest, and Red kitsune, their bonds tend to be the weakest, if their chosen mate dies there is a good chance that somewhere in the future they will find another mate and continue on with their life as normal. The exception to that rule is if they had kits. It's difficult to find another mate that is willing to take on a family that is not their own. It is not unusual for them to have partners on the side for entertainment. While it is not encouraged, it's not exactly frowned upon either.'

 

 

`I thought that kitsune were extremely protective of the young ones. That's what you've told me before anyway.'

 

 

`We are, when it comes to immediate danger, however that does not mean that most are willing to accept another's offspring into their family.'

 

 

`I see, what about the other varieties?'

 

 

`Well, then you have others like the Shadow, Blue, and Black. They are the next step up from the others. Their bonds are almost as strong as ours. When they mate, it is rare to see one without the other. Outside relationships are extremely rare and only happens under extreme circumstances, such as one of the pair proving to be infertile.'

 

 

`So the issue of unrelated kits aren't an issue with them unlike the first group?'

 

 

`Not so much, the protective instincts are stronger with them, especially with the Vixens. The final group has the strongest bond, which is why we are so rare. This group includes the Silvers, The Goldens and the Eclipse Kitsune.'

 

 

`What does it have to do with how rare they are?'

 

 

`Well the bond is the strongest, assuming that they take a mate which is rare. For when one of us finally does take a mate their life force is permanently bonded to them. In other words, if we mate with another and they die then so do we. And you know how hunted our kind is. It's killing two birds with one stone so to speak. Any kits from such a union is left helpless and its rare for them to find a place where they can be safe.'

 

 

`So what you are telling me is if Kagome dies since you bonded yourself to her then we die as well?'

 

 

`No, what I am saying is if Kagome dies then I die as well again. It's complicated.'

 

 

`Umm I was under the impression that we were one and the same Youko.'

 

 

`Well yes in most instances. However this body is in possession of two souls which if one were to leave the other would still be there. We would continue to exist as we are until I took possession of the body. It would at that point that my death would come to pass since I was once again “alive”. You however would still remain.'

 

 

`Just thinking about it gives me a headache. You would willingly bond yourself to a dying woman knowing that if she perished you could never have control of our body once again?'

 

 

`I would and I did. As you can see though, she didn't die so it is no longer an issue.'

 

`She's human Youko whereas you are not. And since you are in me, I am basically immortal as well. What happens when she passes from old age?'

 

 

`It's something we are going to have to work on. Although you already know that Koenma is well aware of this girl as it is. And what she protects. Do you honestly think that they would allow her to die? My guess would be as soon as Botan arrived to collect her soul they would revive her immedietly. The jewel is too important to have to worry about finding another Guardian and then training them.'

 

Youko had a point in this Shuichi decided, although he wasn't sure if Koenma would actually revive the girl or just lock the jewel away in the vault. It was tossup as to what the Demi-God would do if the situation ever came up. It would be best if it never did though. As much of a pain in the ass Youko was at times, he would miss him if he were gone. If it ever happened he would keep Youko locked away in his mind, never to come out again if that's what it came down to.

 

 

`I wouldn't want you to Shuichi. I've heard of those that were forced to live without their bonded being alive, bound to the world by dark magic in order to make one suffer. It's like living a half-life. You're there but your soul feels like it is being torn in two, trying to join your lost love one. If something were to happen like that, let me go Shuichi. I'd find a way to come back eventually, with Kagome. `

 

 

`I don't know if I could do that Youko. Let's not worry about it at this point, you said yourself that she is doing much better. Lets not dwell on it any longer.'

 

 

That was perfectly acceptable to Youko. If he had anything to say about it Kagome would never be placed in danger again.

To say Naraku was displeased was an understatement. He had watched how Leiko had handled the situation and quite frankly he had expected so much more from her. His only consolation was the fact that most of the group was indeed out of his hair.

 

 

He had taken note of the girls injuries, it was extremely doubtful that she had survived which suited him just fine. And even if she had survived, well…. She no longer had any protection, he would take her out of the picture easily. Perhaps he would even play with her before he did so. An image crossed his mind, the look that would be on her face as he brutally thrust himself through her innocence. The pain she would experience as she realized that there was no one who would save her, no one who would want to. Oh how he would enjoy destroying the last remnants of her mind and soul.

 

 

She would make an acceptable play toy for a while. Until he tired of her anyway, then he would feast himself on her blood. But first he had to determine if she was alive or not. Unfortunately he had no way of knowing, not until she came back anyway. Kanna's mirror would not show him the future. Instead he could only plan on the chance that she was indeed alive.

 

 

Naraku stood and donned his baboon pelt. A trip was in order, there was a smith that he needed to see, one that specialized in wards. He would need something especially suited to containing the bitches Miko powers. Once those were contained, he could play with her to his hearts content.

 

 

It was decided, he would journey to Tanjiro's lair first for the wards he needed. Then he would go and pay a visit to Kamlyn who would be able to assist him with passage through the well.

Golden_Fire_Goddess: How Reikai knows about was explained a few chapters back but for the life of me I don't remember which chapter it was exactly. They'd been monitoring the power from her, the jewel and the well since the beginning. They just haven't done anything about it because the jewel needs to be repaired. I'm not going to kill Hiei off, I like him too much although things might get a bit hairy for him for a few minutes. That part will be coming in the next two or three chapters. I won't be bringing all four characters back. I haven't decided who to bring back yet, most likely either Shippou or Kirara. That part won't be for a while yet though. As for how Kagome reacts, lets just say she's not likely to take it well at first lol Anyway, Hope this is a fast enough update. Enjoy the chapter!

 

 

crazy-punk-gurl: we'll see if we can hunt her down then to help you out lol I already have designs on Naraku going to the future. Yours is a good idea though, I hadn't thought about sealing him away. I'm just not sure who would be powerful enough to do it anymore. You forgot Kuronue in the list of hotties. Can't leave him out hehe Break out the drool bucket….

I hope this one is as good, I'm trying to get ever last detail in as to how much exactly Youko laid on the line for Kagome. Imagine how Kagome is going to feel when she realizes the lengths Youko will go to keep her safe. You know, I can almost pity Naraku when he comes to the future. Youko isn't going to be amused with his plans.

 

 

ice_princess_1185: I love Yusuke/Kag pairings myself though I'm not exactly sure of why. Yusuke reminds me so much of Inu and it's extremely rare that I read any Inu/Kag pairings. But if it's a Yusuke/Kag I have to read it. Strange I know. My favorite still has to be Kur/Kag all the way though.

GEMINIS SHADOW: Thank you for the compliments, it makes me extremely happy to know that my stories are being enjoyed so well. I hope to pick up on Whispers soon though to be honest I'll probably have to go and read through what I have already written just to make sure I don't screw anything up when I'm finally able to work on it once more. Kurama will be in that one to an extent, Hiei is just going to have to learn to tolerate some interaction between the two but it won't be anything physical.

 

 

Mija: Naraku is evil isn't he? And he's likely only going to get worse, depending on how evil of a mindset I get in when I write his upcoming scenes. Neither Hiei nor Kurama is going to be thrilled when he crosses over. Pity Naraku if he somehow manages to get his hands on Kagome, his demise will not be pretty lol There is likely to be a few more warnings in the future for extremely graphic content. I'll make sure they are extremely visible though.
