Chapter 14
Tanjiro sat in his chair looking curiously at his visitor. I was not very often that the smith received visitors such as Naraku. Even more curious was the request that he was presented with. The tale of the slaughter of Inuyasha's group had spread like wildfire; it was likely that everyone had heard it by now. Only the Miko was reported to have escaped, no one had any knowledge of what had happened to her. Or if they did they were keeping quiet about it.
The news had affected everyone with varying degrees of shock and surprise. The village they were known to stay at had gone and given each member a proper burial. Kaede was said to be grief stricken. She had opened her home to them and had become quite close with each of them over the years.
Lord Sesshoumaru had been strangely silent over the whole affair. Everyone knew there was no love lost between the half brothers. They had attempted to kill each other on more than one occasion. Reading the Lord of the Western Lands was near impossible. If he was plotting revenge against Naraku for his involvement he had not made it publicly known. Indeed there was nothing to tie him directly to the murders, but all who had known Leiko knew she would not have taken the task on of her own accord. Someone had hired her, and Naraku was the perfect guess of who it was.
The smith twitched, his small weasel ears moving slightly making his red hair shimmer. What Naraku was asking for was not anything particularly difficult for a smith of his caliber. All he would need would be something of hers that contained a part of her. Blood, Hair, it didn't matter so long as he could bind the magic in the wards to her body.
“I need something from the girl. Blood is preferable but hair will work just as well. Bring me that which I need and I will construct what you ask for.”
Naraku chuckled; he had expected as much and had come prepared. From his robes he pulled out a small scrap of cloth that had been soaked in her blood. It wouldn't matter that it had dried out. He handed the scrap over to Tanjiro who took it and smelled the cloth.
“This will do nicely. Come back in two days time and you shall have wards strong enough to bind her.”
“Fair enough, payment will be given upon completion. And Tanjiro these had better work. You do not want to see me again if it fails to restrain her.”
Tanjiro swallowed hard, he knew how Naraku dealt with failure and it was not a prospect he had any desire to deal with. He nodded slowly and watched as Naraku rose and walked out of his lair. Shaking his head he got up himself. He only had two days to complete the task set before him, it would be best to get a start on it now.
Naraku was satisfied with the deal they had worked out. Two small bags of gold for two bracelets and a necklace that would contain the bitch's powers. Those three items would give him the dominance over her that he so desired. He had thought about wards that were less appealing, however the delicate nature of the items would only add to the innocent appeal of the girl when he first took her. He longs for the day he would have her in his grasp. Her and the jewel. He wondered how dark the Shikon would become with malice if he left it on her as he brutalized her body. Would her rage and hatred for him turn the jewel darker than he ever could? It was an experiment he was more than willing to test out.
Melting through the shadows he moved quickly towards Kamlyn's home. If anyone would be able to tell him how the well worked it would be him. The old demon knew more about ancient spells of that nature than anyone else Naraku could have thought of. The question would be if he would be willing to help him. Kamlyn was not one that could be easily bought or intimidated. He only did things he wanted to do, whether it was for the challenge of doing something or he thought the results would be amusing.
He was brought out of his thoughts when Kamlyn approached him, he had felt Naraku's approach before he had even stepped onto his territory. He didn't often get visitors, for others were afraid of what he might wish to do with them. Kamlyn was known for trying out incredibly strange experiments. His latest had to do with constructs. He had been attempting to combine the bodies of a dragon and a Phoenix with varying results. How he had managed to get his hands on either of them and keep them no one was certain. Most didn't want to know either.
“What brings you to my home Naraku?”
“A challenge Kamlyn, I was curious if you were interested.”
Kamlyn quirked a brow at this. How he loved a good challenge! It was one of his few weaknesses. He grew bored very easily and was constantly looking for something that would hold his interest.
“What challenge? Speak quickly or be gone.”
“Someone long ago broke the laws of time Kamlyn and created a portal to the future. However it is keyed only to certain individuals.”
Naraku definitely had his interest. There was only one person he had known of to dabble into the realms of time travel but to his knowledge he had never succeeded. If there was indeed a portal then it was likely of his rival's creation. He had to know if this was indeed the case.
“Come inside and we will discuss it.”
Naraku smiled, he knew he had snagged him. Now all he needed to do was continue to draw Kamlyn in and the secrets to the well would quickly be unlocked giving him access to Kagome's world. He followed the older demon into his home and into the study. Kamlyn indicated a plush seat before taking his own. His black eyes bored into Naraku's red ones.
“Tell me about this portal.”
“There is an old, dry well in a village not far from here. It is a gateway to approximately five hundred years from now. Unfortunately, the only ones who have been able to pass through the well have been a Miko and an Inu hanyou. The Hanyou is now dead and the girl on the other side of the portal. Can you change the spell to allow free passage?”
Kamlyn considered his request. He was unsure of the exact spell that had been cast. He wouldn't be able to tell for certain if he could change the spell holding the portal in place. There was a chance the portal could be destroyed completely if he attempted to do so. But that possibility was half of the fun. He wouldn't know anything until he examined the well himself.
“I wish to see this portal. Then I will tell you what I think.”
Naraku smiled and rose. There was no time like present after all. He turned and Kamlyn followed behind him, certain Naraku would take him to the place the well was. They would be there shortly, Kagome's time was running out.

Kagome was sleeping peacefully for the moment as Youko conversed with Shuichi. They were once again embroiled in a discussion of who should have control of the body. Kurama was running low on food in his home and there was no way that Youko was going to be the one to go out shopping. It had worried him enough the day they brought Kagome home, he wasn't wanting to risk a second time.
`Youko we need food in here. She can't live off of energy like you do.'
`I know that! I'll just cast an illusion. I can do that too you know, no one will know what we are.'
`That's unacceptable and you know it. What happens if Koenma finds out what is going on? You know he is likely to if you use too much magic. His sensors will pick it up easily.'
`Koenma wouldn't do anything, I won't allow him to.'
`That's bullshit and you know it Youko. The first thing he would do is drag us into his office for an explanation. And when he found out about Kagome's condition what exactly do you think he would do?'
Kurama almost felt bad about playing off of Youko's emotions for Kagome but he knew it was one thing that would likely work in his favor for getting himself back in control. He was going insane, being the one to be shut away and to tell you the truth he was becoming slightly jealous. He was attracted to the girl too and while he was witness to all the tender touches Youko bestowed on the sleeping girl he didn't get the opportunity to actually feel them.
`He wouldn't do anything with her. Not if he wants to keep his current body at any rate.'
`You'd have a hard time stopping him. He would likely take her from us and find some way to break the bond between you two. Especially when he found out that she wasn't exactly in the proper frame of mind when she agreed.'
That was the final push that Youko needed to give in to his demands. He'd give back control temporarily. But he had better get it back as soon as they got home!
`Fine, lets wake Kagome and let her know that we are leaving for a few minutes. Then you can take over for a while.'
Kurama didn't say anything in response, only allowed a feeling of contentment to come through in regards to the kitsune's answer. Youko walked in the bedroom and sat on the bed next to the sleeping girl. He ran his fingers gently through her hair. Sighing softly the girl turned towards him in her sleep, attempting to get closer to him.
“Kagome wake up.”
His voice was soft so he did not startle her. Slowly her eyes opened and she looked up at him. He normally only woke her up to change the dressings on her wounds or to make sure she ate something. She was concerned with how much she was sleeping but he had told her it was a side effect of the rate that she was healing at.
“Is something wrong?”
“Not at all, I wanted to tell you that I have to step out for a few minutes. We need more food here, I won't be gone long.”
Kagome nodded and hid a yawn behind her hand as her eyes started to drift closed once more. Youko caressed her cheek gently before standing and walking out of the room. Once he had closed the bedroom door he closed his eyes and allowed Kurama to once again take control of their body.
Grateful to finally be the one back in control Kurama smiled and walked out of their home. They couldn't leave her alone for too long but he'd be damned if he didn't enjoy his time out.
Kagome was almost asleep when she felt the strangest sensation coming from outside of her room. She concentrated for a moment, trying to determine exactly what it was that she was feeling. It seemed familiar to her saviors presence but at the same time vastly different. And then it was gone, making her wonder if she had even felt it at all or if it was some part of a strange dream. She decided not to think on it at all, her head hurt too much to bother at the moment.

Kamlyn stood before the well examining it. It certainly wasn't anything spectacular to look at, but it was definitely the work of his rival that was certain. Still, couldn't he have made it into something that was a bit flashier? Shaking his head he extended his senses feeling out the particulars of the spell. It was ingenious on how it had been cast, it had been keyed to only those of his bloodline that carried his power. If the power had skipped a generation then those without it would not be permitted passage. It was easy enough to rectify the problem though.
Pity, he had been hoping for more of a challenge. Picking up on a small thread of the power that held the spell he exerted his will on it, warping the requirements that the spell called for of any traveler. He changed it so any one that held demon blood could pass the well. It would fulfill Naraku's request and leave it open for his own use if he ever decided he wanted to see what the future looked like.
“It is done Naraku. Now unless there is something else you require I shall take my leave.”
“Thank you Kamlyn. Please take this as a show of my… appreciation.”
He pressed a bag of gold coins in the other demons hands and left. Now all he needed to do was wait for the wards and he would be ready to go collect his prizes. All of his hard work was finally paying off. Very soon Kagome and the Jewel would be his. He would be unstoppable.
Reviewer Responses:
Shabopo: Your review just tickled me to death. Somehow I can just picture that reaction from Hiei. Hope your essay goes better than you are expecting.
Rabid: Kagome's mom will be included into it very soon. I almost put it in this chapter but I felt it would go in better with the next one. Next Chapter is when Kag finds out about how split exactly Youko is. It should be interesting. I've run across that site before, indeed it is a very good one to use in reference. And now the well will let any demon pass through. I'm debating pulling the past Lord Fluffy-sama into the future to come after Naraku for taking away his right to kill Inuyasha.
inuyuyu_15: Ohhhhhhh CANDY!! Thank you, how did you know I needed chocolate tonight? The confrontation is either in the next chapter or the one after. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Person... : Yep, a conversation with a delirious person can be amusing but soon we'll get to the good stuff. Kagome's about ready to come back to herself, her healing is almost done. Then the fun begins.
crazy-punk-gurl: it is a very good idea, one I may have used if I hadn't already killed Miroku off. I think he would have gotten a kick out of sealing Naraku up for all eternity. Mmmm yes, Lord Fluffy and Touya too… I cannot believe I forgot them. Teenage Koenma is definitely on the yummy list as well if he ever ditches the pacifier. Kouga is nice too, I'd like to see him in something other than skins though lol
ice_princess_1185: Nope he doesn't. I considered making another OC for the villain in the fic but I think I've thrown enough of them in there even if they are minor ones. Perhaps if I knew more about the YYH bad guys I would have used one of them instead or together with Naraku but as of right now it would most likely throw my thought process off on the plot and my muse would revolt.
bloodbunny: Ask and you shall receive, that's coming in the next chapter :-)
Thanks for reviewing everyone, we're getting close to 100 on MM! Until next time.
