Commitments Made In Blood

Chapter 30

 

 

 

Silence fell in the room for several long moments. For once Youko was rendered speechless at the audacity that Hiei had. Sure he was going to tell Kuronue, in his own time of course. He was not expecting his friend to be the one to do it. He shot Hiei a dark look that was met by a hard glare. Hiei was not about to be intimidated. All secrets pertaining to this particular mission needed to be out in the open between the three of them for this to work.

 

 

Kuronue's chuckle broke the tense silence. Two pairs of eyes snapped over to him. It was just too much for him, the kitsune all had lusted over had gone and broke hearts around the world by taking a mate. And even more surprising than him taking a mate was that she was a Miko. This was priceless.

 

 

“I knew you liked to live dangerously Youko but a Miko for a mate?”

 

 

“Shut up you old bat.”

 

 

“You're older than I am. Remember that.”

 

 

Kagome chose that moment to come back into the house leaving Shippou outside with her mother. She looked from one demon to another wondering what exactly it was that she had walked into. Youko wasn't looking very amused while Kuronue on the other hand seemed to be having a good laugh at his partners expense.

 

 

“Am I interrupting something?”

 

 

Kuronue looked at the girl with a grin, yes teasing his old partner was going to be quite fun indeed. He stood up and walked over to the girl who was eying them warily. She was unsure if she wanted any part of whatever was going on, it was more than likely going to be embarrassing for her if they drug her in. Kuronue put his arm around Kagome and gave her a wink ignoring the look that Youko gave him. Kagome was startled that he was touching her and started to move away but he just pulled her in closer.

 

 

“So tell me, how did you manage to capture the heart of my partner over there?”

 

 

Her gaze darted back and forth between the two of them unsure of what to say exactly. It wasn't as if she remembered when her and Youko had first met. She had been delirious at the time. She noticed the teasing tone that was in Kuronue's voice though and decided she could play along some.

 

 

“Well I guess there I was just too irresistible when I practically fall into his lap covered in blood.”

 

 

“Covered in blood you say? Youko, did you develop a new fetish while I was away?”

 

 

Kagome lifted an eyebrow at that statement and gave Youko a measuring look.

 

 

“A new fetish? You mean there are old ones I don't know about yet?”

 

 

Kuronue grinned, he liked this girl, she knew how to play unlike a lot of humans he had run across and she wasn't afraid to tease Youko which made things even better. He could see they were going to get along just fine. If Youko didn't kill him off first for starting this conversation.

 

 

“Actually there are quite a few fetishes that Youko has. I could tell some of them to you if you like? Let me see there is-“

 

 

“Finish that sentence and I'm going to reacquaint you with my plants the hard way.”

 

 

“Fine Youko.”

 

 

Kuronue leaned closer to Kagome and lowered his mouth to her ear, his breath tickling her skin as he whispered to her. Hiei rolled his eyes, it was so very obvious now how the two of them had managed to make a good team. Kuronue should have been born a kitsune in his opinion, the bat was entirely too playful. Kagome extracted herself from Kuronue's hold and sat down next to Youko with a grin.

 

 

“Do I dare ask what it was he said to you?”

 

 

“Nope.”

 

 

She winked mischievously at him and giggled when he fixed her with his patented `I'm waiting' look. Seeing he wasn't going to get an answer he merely shook his head. It was good to have Kuronue back, even if he was a pain in his ass on occasions.

 

 

“Will you be going soon Youko?”

 

 

He pulled her close, ignoring the grin Kuronue gave him. Hiei just stayed where he was and turned his attention out the window. He knew there wouldn't be a make-out session or anything of the sort but he also knew that Youko could sit there holding onto her for hours and he had other things he wanted to do then just sit there waiting for them to leave. The sooner they were gone, the sooner they would get back and he could do other things.

 

 

“Very soon, I have the letter. Anything else we will need?”

 

 

“Not that I can think of, it should be enough. It would be easier if I just went with you.”

 

 

“Not a chance until I see what it is like over there.”

 

 

“You know I traveled there for a few years before I met you right?”

 

 

“Yes I do know and look how I found you when we met. You're not going.”

 

 

Kagome glared at him. She didn't understand why he refused to allow her to come, the only reason she wasn't fighting with him over it was the fact that Shippou was here now and if she left he would insist on coming as well.

 

 

“Fine but if she won't accept the letter come back and get me.”

 

 

“If she won't give it to us willingly we'll just steal it.”

 

 

Kagome turned her glare to Kuronue at that statement. Thief he may still be but she couldn't just let them do that to Kaede. And even if they tried there was a good chance that there was some sort of protection placed on the sword. Kaede was a crafty, old woman. Who knew what problems she could cause them if they attempted such a thing. Kuronue just gave her a halfhearted grin, she would prove to be the one to have to wear down it would seem if he wanted to return to his former lifestyle with Youko. Somehow he didn't think the little Miko would approve.

 

 

“Fine, if she won't give us the sword we'll come back for you. Is there anything else we need to know before we leave?”

 

 

“Not really, although there is the matter of Inuyasha's older half brother.”

 

 

“Ah yes, he wanted the sword did he not?”

 

 

“Yes he did, and I imagine if he knows of his death he's been searching for the Tetsusaiga. Kaede still has it according to Inuyasha which leads me to believe she is concealing it somehow. If he knows you have it he won't hesitate to take it from you.”

 

 

“He can try.”

 

 

“Don't underestimate Sesshoumaru, I don't want either of you to die again.”

 

 

A look passed between the two of them but they refrained from commenting. Neither one of them considered the Taiyoukai much of a challenge, after all they had faced others before and come out victorious. This time would be no exception if it came to a confrontation.

 

 

“Alright, let's get this over with.”

 

 

Youko gave control back over to Kurama and receded into dormancy. It was the only way for them to pull off him going into the past. He would still have partial control over his energy but it would be greatly diminished. They all walked out the front door after making sure they would not be seen. There was no sense in wasting the energy to casting an illusion over Kuronue. Going back in the past no one would be surprised to see that he was a demon. Scared out of their minds maybe but not surprised. When they stepped into the well house they all peered down into the dark depths.

 

 

“Well, good luck you two.”

 

 

“We will be back soon.”

 

 

Kurama gave her an innocent kiss on the lips before pulling away from her. He climbed over the side and jumped in followed quickly by Kuronue. Blue lights flared obscuring her vision and when it cleared they were gone. She hoped they wouldn't run into any problems on the other side.

 

 

Author's Note: I know it short but the next one should be one of the longer chapters. I must ask of my readers, please do not ask me to bring back Sango and Miroku in this story. Please remember that originally this was a one shot. Everyone with the exception of Kagome had died and they weren't slated to be brought back to life. So much has changed from how the original story went, I had planned on this being 30 chapters max. Here we are on Chapter 30 and I can foresee at least ten more chapters. To bring back even more characters would mean this would likely hit 60 chapters or more in order to do them justice.

 

 

I still have yet to get into the whole Youko/Yusuke issue like I wanted to and still intend on doing which brings in the rest of the YYH group. Sesshoumaru will also be coming in soon but I must reiterate he will NOT be a major part of this fic, you'll mainly see him in the final battle with Naraku and the aftermath. I myself am a big fan of Sess but I'm having to draw the line on how many different directions to go in this story, otherwise it will fall apart in places which I don't want. I am never comfortable coming up with OCs so the likelyhood of me bringing more of them in to pair up with the unattached characters are slim and none. Maybe if I decide to do a sequel, we will see what happens.

Mhall: Maybe eventually I will do a Kur/Kag/Hiei triangle but I wouldn't expect it in the near future. I had really wanted to throw him into the mix with COS but there were too many objections and I'd have to be very, very careful about how to bring the three of them together considering Hiei's possessive nature.

Xoulblade: That plot bunny is currently bouncing on yours because I'm drawing a blank on Sess fighting Youko. However when I picture Youko fighting Yusuke, I close my eyes, conjure up the fight scene and it dissolves into something else entirely when they both start losing clothes. Damned perverted mind of mine *sighs* Hope this chapter had enough teasing for you ;-)

 

 

moonlightdemonKita: it would be an amusing story to write I agree, I'd feel bad for Kuronue though. Kurama would be an extremely protective father.

Means I have to start writing faster :-D Sango and Miroku will not be coming back, they've been reincarnated which would mean even though they are established characters it would also be drawing up two more OCs which I don't have the energy for at the moment to develop them properly and then work into it how they meet and pair up, ect.

Rabid: My multi-reviewing friend who I adore, a muffin sounds good right about now. Blueberry or raspberry.. Hmm now I'm hungry, thankfully it will be dinnertime soon. Youko did exist in the past which is why you won't see him take over whenever they go to the past, he'll be completely dormant. We don't want the paradox to make him go poof. I kinda feel bad for her family, every time they turn around a new demon is coming into the house. Wonder what their reaction will be when Botan and Koenma pop up in the living room one of these chapters. I think we need to extend the word limit for you, although I do quite enjoy seeing three reviewer alert emails in my inbox whenever you review :-D Kuronue will be anything but flat in this fic I promise, I've been doing my fair share of glomping on him, hope his mate don't mind O.O he's just so irresistible. :-D If they were to walk out in public undisguised there would be mass hysteria. We would be prying fangirls off of them. We'd probably have to borrow Botan's oar to beat them away from both him and Youko in fact, they'd probably find it quite amusing. 13 pages of fighting? Yummy I want to read lol As to your question, actually I think he would. I somehow get the feeling he would enjoy the feel of his opponents blood running over his hands if he were pissed off enough. Long distance kills are great but there is nothing like seeing the death of your opponent while staring them in the eyes. Maybe I am bloodthirsty after all O.O It is quite difficult to imagine Youko being pissed and not slaughtering the cause of his irritation on the spot but I am sure you're doing a great job. Hmm Youko in leather? Interesting mental image there. Goes along with the bondage thing. You're right, this is going to go way past thirty chapters. Wanna lay odds on exactly how long this thing is going to actually end up being? Especially if I end up making it so they have kids, hell C.O.S. The labor scene was three chapters long *sighs* Eh well, time to go back to drooling over that day dream of shirtless Yusuke, Kuronue and Youko.
