Sango's mouth fell open and her cheeks stained a light pink. To say that she was shocked would be an understatement. That was why the demon had been so nice to her. His actions made sense to her now. It all added up—the horrible pet name that he gave her, the saving of her life, repairing her items, training her. Against all unwritten laws a demon and human should not even consider having a relationship. A demon bandit and a demon slayer pertained to those laws the most. Had the fox lost his mind?

Yoko stayed silent, studying Sango. He didn't expect her to take the news lightly, but she did ask for his reason of kindness. It felt weird saying that he wanted to court her, he was a fox. He didn't have to court any female. They usually just practically fall into his lap. He smirked. That was one of the reasons why he liked Sango. She was not your average female. She was in fact the complete opposite. She had a strong mind, she could defend herself, and she wasn't some annoying female that was only good for sex. He had yet to even steal a kiss.

“ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!” Yoko flinched from the suddenness of Sango's outburst. His ears twitched and he heard ringing.

Sango's nostrils flared as she stormed around the room collecting her weapons. Yoko merely watched her, unable to form a smart ass remark due to her anger being palpable. Although he would have fun seeing just how mad he could make her, he didn't need to upset her any further if he wanted to pursue a relationship. After she finished collecting her belongings and equipping herself, she stormed out of the room without looking back. She ignored Yoko's question of her wanting food and started down the hall.

“The nerve of that guy! Him, a notorious bandit, wanting to court me, a demon slayer! He must be out of his mind!” Sango thought, hurrying to get away from this crazy place. After some time of walking down the stone corridor, she slid open the door to find Kirara still in the corner with the catnip. The cat was still heavily intoxicated and mewing happily. Sango sighed. Her feline companion was of no use what so ever during this whole visit. She walked over to the feline and grabbed her by the base of her tails. The cat struggled to get back to the catnip, but Sango ignored her and exited the room.

She needed to think and staying here would not allow her the time or space required. She followed the main corridor until she heard running water. Not wavering in her meaningful strides and ignoring the bowing female servants, Sango continued down the hall and turned a corner pausing at the sight before her.

Water splashed into the rocky hallway creating a chilly mist. Sango shuddered from the sudden drop in temperature. Of all places Yoko chose to have his lair beneath a waterfall of all places. Sango silently cursed the fox before proceeding. She stopped just before the entrance and paced back and fourth, mists of water engulfing on her in the process. She needed to get out of the waterfall without falling to her death. She looked down at the cat clutched in her hand. Kirara could transform and fly her out, but the cat was still high off of the catnip. She scowled. Damned fox practically bewitched Kirara. After pacing a few more times near the entrance deep in thought Sango sighed with exasperation. She had come up with nothing.

A dark chuckle echoed off of the walls and prickled along her skin. Sango turned to glare at the silver fox who only grinned with that cocky smirk, his tail swaying behind him. She didn't want to deal him or his smugness right now. He lazily walked up to her shaking his head.

“My, my, my, you seem to have encountered a problem,” Yoko teased with another dark chuckle. Sango let out a weak human growl.

“Get me out, now!” Sango demanded taking a step back as Yoko invaded her personal space. He leaned down and inhaled her scent further infuriating her.

“Now why would I want to do that?” He responded. Sango glowered up at him. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer. Ignoring her instincts to knee him where the sun didn't shine she smirked. He wanted to play this way did he? She let go of Kirara and brought her arms up the rest he palms on his chest. She blushed at how warm and hard it was. It was Yoko's turn to smirk as he wrapped his other arm around her waist locking her to him. He was glad that Sango was finally coming to her senses. She turned until his back was to the waterfall while holding his golden gaze. Without warning she slapped his arms away and forcefully pushed him into the running water.

Laughter boomed into Sango's ears causing her to turn and look at the source. Kuronue was on his knees holding his chest. His head hung down with his hearty laughter. It was typical for his friend to be so caught up in a female that he fails to see a trap.

Upon sensing something behind her, Sango turned back to the waterfall and took a step back. A light figure jumped through the spacious opening and landed in front of her. Yoko stood there completely soaked and dripping with water. His ears stuck to his scalp. His usually silver hair and tail was grey. Sango looked at the pouting expression that Yoko bore and burst into laughter along with Kuronue, who was now screaming that he couldn't breathe.

“Now, now kitten, that wasn't very nice,” Yoko whined and approached the demon slayer. Too caught up in her laughter she didn't realize that the fox had scooped her up into a hug until the wetness soaked through her outfit and touched her skin. She screeched and tried to struggle out of Yoko's hold, but to no avail. He shook his head causing the water from his hair to further soak the screaming girl.

Yoko tucked her under one arm while she kicked and screamed and walked over to Kirara, who was in the same place that Sango left her. Grabbing the cat, he put a barrier up to shield him from another onslaught of water. He then jumped through the waterfall landing on the ground, which was about two hundred feet down. Sango stopped screaming to look up at the waterfall. She stared in awe at how far the drop was before dropping her gaze to the foams from the turbulent rollers at the bottom. Beneath the foams she could barely make out large pointed rocks. How had Yoko survived the fall unscathed? She shook the thought from her head convincing herself that she didn't care. She looked up at the sky and was glad that the sun was high, it was about noon.

“You know, you could put me down now!” Sango yelled up at the fox. He smirked and set her on her feet gently. She scowled at him and snatched Kirara from his other hand. Why did he have to be so infuriating? Damn fox. She turned on her heel and started to walk off into the forest, trying her best to ignore the fact that the fox was following. She grew agitated with every step and stopped to look at the fox.

“Is there something that you need?!”

“Yes I wish to escort you home.”

“I don't need you to escort me anywhere. I'm fully capable of making it home, now get lost!” Yoko smirked and grabbed Sango's hand while dropping to one knee. She glared at him coldly and he pulled it to his lips and laid a kiss on her knuckles. It sent shivers down Sango's spine at the warm softness of it. She stood there stunned and puzzled by his actions, he was just being a dick a second ago, why the sudden gentleman gesture?

“As my lady wishes,” Yoko said with a grin that taunted her. No, he was still being a dick. Sango swung with the intent to slap him, yet her hand only collided with air. Yoko was gone.

“You get on my nerves!” Sango yelled into the air causing birds to fly from their homes. She wiped her knuckles against her outfit to erase the feeling of his lips still on her skin. Flustered she continued on her way home. Lucky for her she knew her way back home from where she was considering that she had been to these parts of the forest before. Yoko had been clever in choosing where he had his hideout, because she never knew it was there being that she passed by that waterfall several times. She tried to clear her mind from continuously wandering back to the fox and attempted to focus on her trip home. If she kept up her current pace she would make it home before evening came.

She had successfully walked about a mile before Yoko's voice rang through her mind. “I wish to court you.” She stopped and looked around. Why was his voice in her head? With a sigh at the realization that she was just imagining it Sango mentally scolded herself. Was she falling prey to his fox charms? No, never…she didn't, no couldn't like demons. She was suppose to kill them not spend time in their company. She frowned at the fact that she may be going soft. She was born a demon slayer and would continue to remain as one, it was her life. Maybe in a different time and place they could have been…no not even then.

Why was Yoko plaguing her mind? He was infuriating with that cocky male smirk. The way his eyes glinted every time he looked at her like she was beautiful. Was she beautiful? She never thought about. Why was she thinking about him?!

Well he did save her and Kirara. He also had tried to kiss her when she woke up. She wondered what his lips would feel like if he had kissed her… She felt the heat rise to her cheeks. What was she thinking?!

“Stupid fox!” She yelled and continued angrily. What was happening to her? She never felt this way about anyone, nor would she care to start. She had to remind herself that she was a demon slayer emphasizing the slayer part.

She shivered and remembered that she was wet from Yoko grabbing her when he returned from his vacation. She frowned as she took in her current state. She was soaked in the front and slightly dripping. Stupid fox screwed her over again.

Something cold was on her neck making her reach up to see what it was. Her hand came in contact with a small cold stone like thing. She didn't wear jewelry so why was there a necklace on her neck? Looking down she saw a small figurine that was in the form of a fox with five tails wrapped around most of its body. There were red gems in the place where its eyes should have been. She gazed at the beauty of it, mesmerized for what seemed like eternity. Then she scoffed. Damn Yoko, she didn't want his gifts! When did he manage to put it on her neck? She reached back with one hand to unlatch the necklace and take it off, but to her dismay it would not come loose. She struggled with the thing for a while and grew tired of trying to get it off, so she let it remain on her neck, for now.

Her village came into view and she wondered how long had she been walking? Looking up at the sky she realized that it had to have taken at least four hours. She grew annoyed with the thought that Yoko had jeopardized that much of her time by intruding her thoughts.

She quickened her pace, eager to see how her family was doing. A small figure then came into sight and started to run to her. It didn't take her long to recognize the figure to be her little brother. Elation coursed through her and she ran faster.

“Sango!” The young boy exclaimed as he rushed to his older sister with a smile on his face. Seeing Kohaku's smile warmed Sango's heart. What would she do without him? She finally reached him and Kirara jumped out of her arms, fully recovered from the cat nip. Sango threw her arms around him causing him to turn a bright shade of red. The boy began to squirm in her grasp and she finally let him go ruffling his hair in the process. He was just so adorable.

“Hey, hey now, enough of that!” Kohaku chuckled swatting at his older sisters hands. He was glad that she was safe. He wouldn't admit it to her, but he had stayed up all night worrying.

“I'm just happy to see you,” Sango laughed.

“We went to the village, but you was no where to be found,” Kohaku changed the subject. Sango unintentionally cringed. How was she going explain that she was in a demon bandit hideout? She would just have to come up with a tale, but that was going to be difficult. Kirara sensed Sango's unease, so she mewed at Kohaku's feet causing him to grab and cuddle her. Sango let out a breath that she was unaware that she was holding. Maybe her cat companion was more useful than constantly throwing her to wolves after all.

“Um Sango?” Kohaku stammered averting his attention from Kirara.

“Let's walk and talk,” Sango replied merrily throwing her arm around his shoulder and started towards the village. Her brother seemed fidgety which caused her mood to deplete. Something was wrong.

“F-Father wanted to see you when you returned,” Kohaku barely whispered. Sango stopped walking. He was not telling her something and she didn't like the way that he was on edge.

“What is it Kohaku? You can tell me,” Sango prompted. The boy avoided looking at her by staring at the ground. She became weary. What was her little brother hiding from her?

“I'm sorry. I can't tell you. You have to ask father,” Kohaku said meeting her gaze. His expression was troubled and her heart crumbled. She didn't like seeing him like this. What had her father needed to tell her that Kohaku was upset about? She nodded unable to find words of comfort.

They resumed their walk until they made it to their house. Kohaku stopped, unwilling to go further. Sango hugged him again, but this time he didn't pull back or act embarrassed. His lack of action worried her even more. Reluctantly she pulled back and slowly made her way inside of the house.

Her father was sitting on a mat expectantly waiting for her. He looked her over with impassive eyes and nodded to a mat across from him. Obediently she took a seat and waited for what was to come. Her father didn't usually act like this. First Kohaku acted weird and then her father. The anticipation was killing her. She stirred under her father's gaze. The silence was killing her.

“You wanted to see me?” Sango questioned uncomfortably. He father nodded again and continued to stare at her.

“Sango,” Her father began and swallowed hard. He averted his gaze to her lap nervously and it was her turn to swallow hard. She had never seen her father like this. What could have happened to cause him to act like this?

“Father, what's wrong?”

“You know I love you right?” The question had taken Sango by surprise. Why was he asking this? There was something completely off about this situation and she was dying to know.

“Yes, of course. You're the best father a daughter could hope for,” Sango responded. Her father wiped his eyes with the back of his hands. Was he crying? She felt her heart breaking. Why was her father so sad? After a while her father spoke up again.

“You're sixteen now. You aren't a baby anymore Sango…” She nodded for him to continue unable to find words. What is with all these weird questions? What has happened in her absence?

“You are not my little baby anymore who was so fragile and needed me to take of her,” Her father said seeming as if he was sixteen years in the past reliving her being an infant.

“What's wrong,” Sango said exhausted from all of the beating around bush. Her father motioned for her to come to his side. She complied and he wrapped his arms around her.

“When you were five a man came to visit me. I was indebted to him because he had saved me from the brink of death some years prior,” he paused and wiped a tear. Sango wondered what he was talking about. Nothing made sense.

“He came to me and he asked for payment, but I didn't have any money to give.”

“Why are you crying?” Sango asked softly. Surely her father couldn't be crying because he was in debt?

“Sango, I'm sorry…”

“Sorry for what?” Sango asked puzzled.

“The payment was that you would have to wed his son when you became sixteen. I have asked for time, but he is no longer accepting postponements. Sango you are to be wedded…”
