Summary: It had been a year since Kagome returned to her time with the completed jewel and sealed the well. Now she hides a major secret, that only two others know, and when she meets Kurama that secret might just come out before she can stop it…
Disclaimer: I do not own YYH or IY. I'm just borrowing the characters to have a little fun.
This is a YYH/IY crossover. I've fallen in love with Kurama/Kagome as a couple. So this is my first shot at it. It's slightly AU in the fact that the Spirit Detectives aren't Spirit Detectives, but they still work for Koenma, you should understand that angle as the story progresses. I'm kind of confused at it myself but I promise, it's only because I failed to realize why I wanted them that way. Anyway, please review at the end and tell me what you think. This chapter is three years before the rest of the story. So in this chapter Kagome is 19, but in the rest of the story she is 21. Japanese Translations at the end of story.
Chapter One
Kagome's POV
It was strange, the wind was blowing, the rain was falling, just like it had been when I had sealed the wall never to return again; but now I wasn't standing at the well to unseal it, no, I was standing outside of a large estate. I just had paid the cab fare from Tokyo to this place. I didn't even understand myself why I was here, but I was and I was going to talk to the person in this mansion. The gates were open so I walked right in and through the illusion that shrouded the place. The people that couldn't see the changes were ones without miko or demon abilities. They wouldn't be able to see the untamed lands that I saw now, or see the demon guards that to them are just statues. Nor would they be able to see the Japanese gardens with its stone sculptures and beautiful hedges, to them it would just be a rose garden.
The demon guards let me pass without a word even though a few looked at me curiously and a few sniffed the air for my scent mixed the unmistakable traces of a miko aura. I was no threat to them yet of course they didn't know that and growled in response to my presence. I stood my ground and looked at the kitsune and neko youkai. They were all lower level demons and I could probably purify them without getting my clothes dirty but I wasn't even thinking about that. I just wanted to get to the mansion and find out if it was owned by who I thought it was. The kitsune youkai surrounded me while the neko youkai took outer defensive stances.
“I'm not here to harm you or your master, I'm just here to talk to him or her.”
“Bullshit,” a young kitsune said sending me a glare.
“Ah, if I wanted to harm you, rather purify you, don't you think I would have done so already?”
“She has a point,” commented one of the female neko youkai.
“Shut up Naoto,” another neko youkai hissed.
“Don't tell me to shut up,” `Naoto' shouted and they started to fight as everyone else tried to break them up forgetting about me.
I hid my laugh as I slipped away and continued on my way to the mansion, this time with a slight run to get me there faster. By the time I reached the door the youkai finally realized I was gone and were converging on me. I shrugged and knocked on the door. It didn't take long for someone to get to the door, not long at all. The guards weren't even a few feet behind me yet when the door was opened. A gasp left me as I looked at the orange haired green eyed kitsune before.
“Shippou?”
“Kag…Kagome?” He whispered and I nodded, “Mama…” He launched himself at me and I stumbled back when he hugged me.
“Your alive,” I whispered as my eyes pooled with unshed tears, “I'm so glad. I missed you terribly.”
“It was only a year for you,” He mused, “501 years for myself.”
“I'm so sorry Shippou, I never met to leave you behind but Inuyasha, he-”
“Don't mention that dog breath, when you left he went on a rampage and almost killed all of us, but Sesshoumaru stepped in and stopped him.”
“Sesshoumaru did that?”
“Yes, even I was surprised,” He frowned suddenly, “Hey you dumb youkai get back to work. My mother and I need some time alone.”
“But, she's a miko,” came the complaints.
Shippou ignored them, “Mama come inside, I'll get some tea and we can talk some more.”
“Of course Shippou.”
-Two Days Later; TokyoU-
After a very not so relaxing weekend talking my adopted son and trying to outrun those youkai he has guarding his place, I was finally where I did not belong. College. A disgusting word when you think about it. My definition for it is `More absolutely annoying, uneventful days of school'.
Good news I only have one class on Monday at three-thirty, which is East Asian History 101. In other words, the history of Japan. Then on Tuesday I have `Japanese Myths' at nine. Wednesday is the best day because I have `Martial Arts' with this wonderful old Miko who reminds me of Kaede. That class is from six to nine and is my minor. Thursday I have `East Asian History 101' again at the same time as on Monday. But after that class I have `Japanese Myths' again. Friday I have no classes and the weekend are free to do as I like, which is probably going to be training for my `Martial Arts' class.
Classes don't start for another week. This week is the week to move in, make new friends, meet your teachers, make sure you have your supplies, etc. I rolled my eyes as I stood to straighten the black skirt I wore. I took a deep breath and reflected over everything that had brought me here. Going through the Bone Eater's Well all those years up until my third year of High School. Slowly disappearing from sight when the last wish on the Shikon no Tama was taken. Waking up in my bed at the shrine as if everything had been an ill dream. The only reason I knew it was true was my mother's secretive knowing looks, my brother's questions, and my grandfather teaching me more and more about how to be a miko, to control my power. I graduated from High School with high honors, valedictorian, and got accepted here, TokyoU. But this is my second year, I was only here to help others find their ways around.
My life had changed drastically. Not only was I the keeper of the Shikon no Tama, but I was also a very powerful miko. I was a mother to a kitsune, and I was also something no one else knows. I had taken the wish instead of letting Inuyasha make the wish to become a full youkai. It would have ruined him and so I made the one wish, `I wish that we could all be what we were meant to be.' Inuyasha did turn into a youkai, not as powerful as Sesshoumaru. Sango got her brother back and married Miroku. Shippou, well, he got me as his mother in more ways then one. Not only that but he became a powerful kitsune. Me? Well I became a rare breed of kitsune. Yet, I still held the power of miko within me. I was two people. Kagome Higurashi shrine maiden and miko. Then there was Kagome-sama, lady of all the eastern lands. A silver kitsune with the power to use nature and strangely, wind.
“Umm, can you help me?” Someone asked and I looked at the strangely familiar girl standing before me.
“Rin?”
“Do I know you?”
“Kagome,” I whispered in answer and shock marred her face.
“The miko who helped to defeat Naraku,” She replied and I nodded. “But you're my age, a freshman aren't you?”
“Yes and if I remember correctly you were human also.”
“My father's sword had some unnatural qualities. I became immortal like a youkai, what about you? How can you be here?”
“Come with me, we'll talk at my place,” I said catching sight of some of the strange glances being shot our way.
“Alright, but I need to come back to find my dorm.”
I smiled, “Nonsense you can live me with me, college life isn't very fun with all those parties going on when you want to study.”
“Really?” She seemed a little mad about that.
“Let me guess Sesshoumaru-sama is very strict about your education and it's rubbing off on you.”
“Definitely,” she responded with a laugh.
I smiled at her and opened the passenger door to my Silver Toyota Highlander. She climbed in and put her messenger bag in the backseat while I closed the door. I waited for a few cars to pass before I ventured into the street and got into the SUV. My own messenger bag joined hers in the back and I started the car, my hand moving quickly to turn the volume down on the radio. It was very strange how I had met her again.
“Kagome-chan,” She said and I looked at her briefly before returning my gaze to the street.
“Yes Rin?”
“How can you be alive now?”
I sighed and began the explanation, “When I was fifteen I fell through a well at the shrine I grew up in and well I came to be in the feudal era, which is where I met Inuyasha and the others. When the Shikon no Tama was joined back together I was, well, brought back here, to the time I grew up in.”
“So you were born-”
“Nineteen-”
“-Nineteen years ago.”
“Yes I was.”
“That's cool, she squealed.
“Rin, I wished on the jewel.”
“You did, well what did you wish for?”
“I would rather speak to Sesshoumaru-sama about it also. Can you tell me where to go?”
“Sure, Tashio Enterprises.”
“Really? I should have known.”
“Why, I don't understand?”
A smile graced my lips, “Well I'm a secretary there so I can earn money for school. It figures I would be working for someone I thought I would never see again.”
“Well he should be in a meeting, but he might want to see you,” Rin said and the feeling that she was hiding something spurred me to glare at her.
“What else do you wish to tell me?”
she sighed and shrugged, “You are just like Sesshoumaru, I can't hide anything from you.”
“Rin, I'm sorry, it's not my place-”
“Nah, it's alright. Dad it seems has been searching for you for a few years.”
“Why?” I was slightly frazzled by her light usage of the word `dad'.
“I think he knows you didn't die in the feudal era.”
“Well then I'll just have to pacify his thirst to find me.”
“That sounds very disturbing.”
“I know it does.”
We stayed quiet the rest of the ride and I looked over once to find Rin asleep as we got stuck in traffic. I turned the radio up a little and listened to the music from my favorite radio station. After about two hours compared to the normal one I finally pulled into a parking space in the parking garage connected to Tashio Enterprises. I turned the car off and reached over to wake Rin up. She woke up after I shook her a few times and she yawned as she undid her seatbelt.
“How long was I asleep?”
“Two hours.”
“Your kidding me, it took that long to get here?”
“Well after getting caught behind a car that broke down, traffic, and a detour, yes we're finally here.”
She seemed to leap from the car and I got out and followed her going slower then she was as she ran to the elevators on the far side of the floor. The executive elevators. You needed a passkey to use those and a passkey is probably what Rin has. She is his daughter after all. A few questions loomed in my brain, like why she had stopped growing at this age. It seemed very strange, but I was sure I'd find out. She waited impatiently for me and finally I ran to the elevator as she opened her mouth to say something. The doors shut behind me and we started the climb to the top floor. I leaned against the cool metal of the wall feeling the strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. It wasn't fear, nor sadness. I wasn't angered by something nor I was overly happy. It was probably nerves.
The doors opened and there was the sound of a bell to announce to whoever was at the reception desk that someone was coming. I followed Rin down the long hall to the end where a woman stood to greet us. She held the phone receiver in her hand and was dialing a number as she spoke to Rin in a hushed tone. I was still a few feet away and when Rin laughed at whatever was said I slowed to let her have a few more seconds with the receptionist. When I finally stood beside her Rin was sucking on a lollipop and had another tucked into her pocket. I took one for myself and slipped it into my purse to suck on at a later time.
“Sesshoumaru-sama said for you to wait in his office, he'll be there shortly.”
“Alright, Arigatou Michiru.”
We wondered past the desk to the only door on this hall. She opened the door and I walked past her into the large spacious office. It was decorated in blacks and whites, the only color coming from the mahogany desk and the red pillow on the couch. I quickly walked around the desk and stared out over Tokyo as Rin settled into a chair. For more of a surprise I masked my aura, especially my youkai aura. My youkai enhanced ears caught the sound of light footsteps in the hall and I moved away from the window to go towards the bookcases at the wall perpendicular to the window. I had a book in my hand and had opened it just as the door opened and Rin stood to greet her father. I heard the light growl and turned to look at him.
“Sesshoumaru,” I said without any formalities.
“Ningen,” he replied even though I knew he knew my name.
“Not quite Sesshoumaru, I'm still the miko but ningen no longer applies.”
“Explain!” He ordered as he stepped around Rin who closed the door.
He came towards me and I smiled faintly, “I'm a youkai, a silver kitsune,” I let my concealing spell fall and my hair grew longer and got a silver shimmer to it because of the strands of silver hair throughout my midnight blue hair.
“How did this happen?” He asked and his eyes roved over my slim figure.
I spoke those three fateful words, “Shikon no Tama.”
“So my half-brother didn't wish on it.”
“No, I wouldn't let him.”
“Rin, will you please go get us something to drink from the cafeteria. The Miko and I have something to discuss.”
“Of course Otou-san,” Rin said and took the money Sesshoumaru handed her before leaving the office.
“Please sit,” he said almost graciously and I took the offered seat as he took his own. “I am sure Rin has told you that I have been looking for you.”
“Yes she has Sesshoumaru-sama and I can't help but wonder why.”
“There is a matter I want to take up with you,” He paused and leaned forward in his chair. “I assume you have heard of the Spirit Detectives?”
“Vaguely, yes. They are a group of people who work for a higher `being' and protect people, steal artifacts, and kill if need be?”
“That is correct, but they are also charged with helping lost souls find their way.”
“Okay, so what does this have to do with you and me?”
“I've gotten information from a rumor that they, the detectives, are trying to figure out who opened the time portal in the well four years ago and why the Shikon no Tama disappeared.”
“That's bad,” I managed to say.
“Yes it is and we have to keep this information a secret. They can never find out about the Shikon no Tama and the wish you made.”
“You think I'd be stupid enough to tell them?”
“I'm not saying you are Miko.”
“Listen Sesshoumaru the name is Kagome, Ka-go-me. Try saying it instead of miko.”
He raised an eyebrow and I glared back at him before he could retort in his arrogant way. Rin came back in while we had our little staring contest and I took the drink she offered me and took a sip of it as Sesshoumaru lifted his own drink to his lips. We finished our drinks and then Rin excused herself to talk to a friend and I found myself hating the silence.
I sighed, “Is there any other reason you wished to find me?”
“Yes actually, there is news that the new leader of the Eastern Lands is a miko. Would you know anything about this?”
A smile graced my lips and I bowed me head, “You are looking at her.”
He did someone thing to unlike himself; he blinked and seemed at a loss for words.
“You're the-”
“Yes Sesshoumaru-sama I am, which means that you cannot get mad at me when I forgo your rightful title. We are the same status you know, even if you have been a lord longer then I have been a lady.”
