InuYasha Fan Fiction / Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Guarding Life ❯ Chapter Two ( Chapter 2 )
[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
Disclaimer: If I owned YYH and IY would I really be writing these fanfics?
Comments: I don't believe I'm doing the YYH characters justice, but I'm trying. I'll be switching between POV's in most of the chapters. So Kurama regretfully doesn't the get the whole chapter to himself. I'm still not very comfortable writing his character when I'm not used to writing it. I haven't seen the anime in so long. Let me tell everyone that I'm a High School Sophomore with a state-wide test coming up at the end of this month and a lot of work to do before then. So chapter updates will be spaced a little unevenly, but I will updated at least once a month, I promise you that. Enjoy.
Before I forget,
“Kurama speaking out loud”
`Kurama speaking to Youko'
Youko speaking to Kurama
The only time the above changes is when it's Kagome POV and she's thinking which only changes the italics to thought. Hope that's not confusing.
Chapter Two
Kurama's POV
We stood before a large office building that we were moments away from entering. It was kind of intimidating and would be if we weren't the people we are. Yusuke and Kuwabara were fighting again and Hiei was just standing there, that normal emotionless look on his face. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and walked past the fighting males into the confines of the spacious lobby. I sensed that Hiei had followed me and now I was walking towards the reception desk.
I sense something coming from the elevator.
`I sense it too.'
The aura is strong.
`I know Youko.'
“Can I help you?” The receptionist asked.
“We're here to see Tashio Sesshoumaru.”
“Of course, his personal assistant should be here in a moment, If you will please wait over by the roses,” She pointed to a spot behind us and I nodded to her.
Roses, how fitting. Youko commented dryly.
I managed a smile as Hiei and I stood before the roses to wait for Sesshoumaru's assistant. Kuwabara and Yusuke were coming over to us and Kuwabara it seemed sported another bruise. This time I really did roll my eyes but stopped when the elevator doors opened and an immaculately dressed woman walked out and paused to take a look around. Her gaze stopped on us and she walked over to us and stood there not sure of something, I could see it in her eyes. There was also something about her aura. It was like there were two all rolled into one.
`She's a miko.'
…She's a kitsune!
`Your kidding right?'
I wish I were, but I would recognize that scent anywhere.
`This is very strange.'
“Are you the detectives that wished to talk to Sesshoumaru-sama?” She asked and I was startled by how cold she seemed when she spoke while her body portrayed that she was a warm caring person.
Maybe she has something against detectives? Youko offered and I almost growled.
“Hn.”
`One guess as to where that came from.'
“Yes, we are.” Yusuke answered finally and she gave a sigh.
“Very well, please come with me. Sesshoumaru does not like to be kept waiting.”
I noticed the lack of the suffix to show his status, but it was obvious the others apart from Hiei had not. We shared a glance and followed her into the elevator. The were no buttons only a slot where the assistant slid a card and pulled it out when the elevator started its ascent. Youko and I took the time to look her over, find weaknesses and answers. Her midnight blue hair was pulled back into a bun at the base of her head and her blue eyes were cold and almost emotionless. But they held a sort of warmth and caring about them but made it so they weren't totally emotionless. She wore a black pants suit with a red blouse underneath. She wasn't even wearing high heels, only those like kitty heels. A strange woman. When the doors opened she stepped out and waited for us before walking down the long hall. She said a few soft words to the woman at the reception desk and then motioned for us to follow her again. She knocked twice on an office door and then opened it without waiting for an answer.
“Sesshoumaru-sama,” the title was back, “the detectives are here to see you,” she said and then ushered us into the spacious room.
“Sit,” Came the command and we all moved to the various seats in the room.
We still hadn't heard the woman's name and I was beginning to wonder what it was exactly. There were no chairs left and she moved to stand behind Sesshoumaru who was appraising us with that cold emotionless stare of his. The woman leaned down and said something to him that I barely caught.
“Do you want…leave…work I need…done,” was all I heard and he responded but I didn't hear his answer.
She stood against the wall and glared at Sesshoumaru when he wasn't looking. Finally she looked up at me and raised an eyebrow to show she knew I was watching her. She crossed her arms and one hand went to grasp something around her neck.
She's hiding something.
`Her name maybe.'
No there's something else.
“Can I ask why you wished to see me?” Sesshoumaru asked finally.
“We know you know something about the time portal and the Shikon no Tama,” Yusuke declared.
She smiled, “I guarantee if we know anything you won't get the gratitude of finding out what we know.”
“Kagome,” Sesshoumaru growled and she quieted down. “We only know about the legends and that is all. If you want to find out more about the jewel then Kagome will give you a list of shrines to visit.”
`Kagome' raised an eyebrow and did the most unexpected thing, she moved over to Sesshoumaru and tweaked his ear before returning to her spot at the wall. Sesshoumaru barely moved and instead he just flung his pen at her. She caught it before it could connect and snapped it easily before handed it back to him, the ink dripping all over his hand and hers.
“Right this way please,” Kagome said as she almost pushed us out of the office. “Sorry Sesshoumaru, it was just too tempting,” She shut the door and pointed towards an office across the hall. “Wait in there please, I need to photocopy something.”
“Hiei, did you feel something strange coming from her?” I asked as we sat down in the seats.
“Hn.”
“What's going on?” Kuwabara asked finally.
“Kagome has the aura of a miko yet at the same time on of a kitsune,” I answered and they didn't seem phased.
“So? You have two different souls so why can't she?”
“Souls and auras are different,” Hiei told them.
“What they mean is that I am both a miko and a kitsune, I have the same soul, nor am I a hanyou,” Kagome said when she came back into the room.
Kagome's POV
That's one secret they already know. I just hope they don't figure out the other. If they find out about the shikon and the well, I'm screwed.
“As you already know my name is Kagome. Higurashi is my last,” I smiled at them and watched as one of them shifted slightly. “Can I know your own names?”
The one with red hair and green eyes spoke first, “Kurama. The one in black is Hiei.”
“Yusuke,” said the one in jeans and a white t-shirt.
“Kuwabara.”
“Nice to meet you all. Now here are the shrines you should visit,” Mine was one of them but I said nothing. “Now if you'll excuse me I have a meeting in ten minutes and I need to prepare.”
A wonderful lie, one they may or may not pick up on. They stood and Kurama bowed before they left. Within moments of their leaving Sesshoumaru was in my office. He stood there and neither of spoke for a few minutes.
“We're screwed,” he said finally.
I laughed, “Not if I can help it. A call to my brother should have him keep his mouth shut about me and the shikon.”
“What about your Grandfather?”
“He passed on two years ago, remember?”
“Uh yes, that's correct he did.”
I rolled my eyes and handed him a folder. He looked through it hurriedly and then placed it back down. He took up another and scanned the information in that one slower. Even though his face was emotionless and his eyes cold I could tell he was angry.
“Your sure he was reincarnated?”
“How many demons do you know that have the poison miasma?”
“Point taken.”
“Thank you. Sango was reincarnated along with Miroku about 20 years ago. Your brother well he's in hell.”
“Who told you all of this?”
“My kit.”
“You still call him your kit, yet he is far older then you.”
“When I found him I was fifteen and he was barely five in human years. To me only five years have passed since then and he's still my kit,” I glared at him. “Do you have a problem with that Sesshoumaru?”
He raised an eyebrow, “No, I suppose not.”
“Good, now can I get some work done before you yell at me for not doing the work?”
He only smirked and left the office with file in hand. I rolled my eyes and booted up the computer so I could type a few documents up and sent them t the other floor heads. Really long boring work, but someone needs to do it and I'm that person. At the end of the day I had just barely finished the last document and was sending it via email to the other department heads. Sesshoumaru had long since been gone and I was only a short while away from leaving myself. But first I needed to stop off at one of the offices and personally give this friend something.
I packed up my things and left the office shutting and locking the door behind me. I lifted my attaché and walked calmly down the almost darkened hallway, past the empty dark, closed off, offices. As I passed by one of them I stepped towards it and closed the door with a sigh. The man who had occupied this office was dead, had been killed three days before. We were still debating how long to wait before promoting or hiring someone for that spot. But I already know someone who deserves it. Now all I have to do is convince Sesshoumaru to promote this person. I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for floor twelve, ten floors before the one I was previously on. When the bells sounded and the doors opened I stepped off and felt more at ease with the lighted and people filled hallway. The one's on this floor seem to work around the clock, but can you blame them with Sesshoumaru as the head of the company.
“Hey Rin,” I greeted cheerfully as I stepped into her small office. “You ready to go? We should leave now so we can get dressed and head to the club before it gets to crowded.”
“Give me a minute,” She said in response and started to shut down her computer and lock the more important files away.
“How was school today?”
“Interesting.”
“Why?”
“My Anatomy Professor decided it would be awesome if we took a trek to the art wing and participated in drawing the `naked models'.”
I couldn't help myself, I started to laugh. After a few seconds she joined in and a few passerby's looked at us strangely before continuing on their ways around the floor. She grabbed her coat and attaché and turned off her desk lamp. We left her office and she shut and locked it while saying `goodnight' to a few coworkers. We quickly crossed the floor to the elevator and slid inside after another person got off.
“I really feel bad for the majority of them, they need to work all night to get the newest project finished,” Rin said with a sigh.
I laughed, “You would have had to stay also if I didn't plead our `girls night out' to your father that has been in the making for months. Your officially twenty-one in human years and we're going to get you drunk.”
“Amen to that.”
Three hours later, after changing clothes four times and taking two showers between the both of us, we were finally leaving for the newest club in Japan. Rin in her red sleeveless dress that stopped mid thigh with black thigh high boots and natural makeup looked stunning and drop dead gorgeous, especially since she had just gotten a new haircut the day before. I, myself, looked pretty stunning in black leather pants, a silvery-blue halter, black heeled sandals, and smoky eye shadow with black eyeliner and light red lip shimmer. We both were ready for a night on the town and nothing was going to stop us from having fun. Not even Sesshoumaru, the overprotective father to one of us and the guardian to the other. What a life.
“Ready to go?” I asked as I grabbed my black suede trench that stopped about mid thigh.
“Hell yes,” Rin replied as she retrieved her black leather thigh length trench. “Let's get this show on the road.”
It was a good thing she wasn't as hyper as she had been as a child. She wouldn't last very long being able to legally drink alcohol if she was. But she's had it before, but this is the first time she's had it legally. But I must say drinking illegally is well a rush.
We walked into the garage and I grabbed the keys to my Toyota Spyder. I slipped into the car gracefully and Rin did the same on the other side. What was really twenty minutes seemed more like ten as we flew across downtown Tokyo to the new club with it's grand opening tonight. VIP passes tucked away in my pocket. No purses tonight.
The only thing we didn't count on, or rather I didn't, was the people who owned the club, or just the one person who owned the club. Kurama, the man from earlier. I still appraising him from the VIP floor as he wondered around greeting and getting feedback from people. I was startled when he looked up at me and smiled.

Well I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'll be studying a lot in the upcoming weeks so if a new chapter isn't up until the end of April don't blame me, blame my teachers.
