Chapter 2

Reflections of the Heart

Inuyasha looked up into the sky, arms crossed over his chest, in his tree. He was as always in deep concentration. His face still the same, but his mind mature, he thought of his actions the day that Kagome left his and their friends lives forever. Nothing added up, no matter which angle or point of view he looked at it, it absolutely boggled his mind.

He absently rubbed his chest, were his rosary was. Not finding it, still surprised him, sending him into a state of shock. The memories of that day his world came crashing down before him flooded his senses.

He remembered her being so upset, she tried not to show it but it was rolling off of her in painful waves. She looked up at him with sad and regretful eyes, it broke his heart, and he just didn't understand. Especially when she told him 'goodbye' then taking his rosary off. The lift in weight was tremendous, he nearly fell over with light headed ness.

His thoughts were demolished when Shippo called him. His eyes moved slowly toward him, they fell upon an older fox demon, no longer the young and annoying kit. Inuyasha knew that Shippo was worried about him, he had been ever since that day where everyone's life was changed. "What is it?" He asked, his gaze unparallel to Shippo's.

"Sango and Miroku want you." He answered, taking a step backwards in order to see him better. "Alright." Inuyasha replied, as he jumped down from the tree branch. Landing gracefully like he always did, his hair fluttering elegantly behind. "Let's go." He spoke, giving the soft command to Shippo, then began to walk toward the village, with Shippo in tow.

As the two demons approached the village they were greeted by a few rambunctious children that dwelled there in the warm and comforting village. Shippo smiled and ran around with the kids playing tag, the game that Kagome had once played with him, so long ago.

Inuyasha on the other hand continued to the hut that became Sango's home, they had declared it their official meeting place. As he entered the hut his nostrils were instantly hit with the smell of stew. He graciously took a seat in the floor beside the young monk, who was in the middle of meditating.

"How has your day been Inuyasha?" Sango asked him, still stirring the stew, making sure the bottom of it didn't burn. "Same as always." He responded, a tinge of sarcasm staining the words, leaving him open to a bashing from Sango, who was not in the mood for it.

"Do you want your stew or not?" She asked with her own voice full of venom. Inuyasha knew not to enrage her anymore than necessary, even though they were close, there was those lines that you just didn't cross, if you wanted to live. Everyone's mood had changed when Kagome left, and it was for the worse.

"Yes I do." He answered given her a leveling stare. He looked over at Miroku, who seemed to be totally oblivious to everything. He, himself had been well mannered around every girl, with an exception of Sango. He knew that the monk loved her, he was just afraid to trust his own feelings and unwilling to hurt her in the possible future.

"Here." was all Inuyasha heard when the bowl of stew was shoved into his chest. He looked at the stemming brew then at Sango. "Thank you." he simply put, although he could have shown a little more gratitude. Sango turned back around, another bowl of stemming stew in her hands. She walked quickly over to Miroku and tapped his shoulder, startling him to no ends.

"You need to eat." She said a little bit of tenderness present, handing him the bowl and taking his staff, setting it up against the wall. Again Inuyasha knew of the feelings she held as he did Miroku. Somehow he was going to have to get them together. Sango was a wonderful cook, of coarse she was taught by a master homemaker.

Keade was going to be forever in their hearts. She had passed away not to long ago, five months at the most. It was very hard on Inuyasha. Even though it was her sister that caused so much anguish between himself and his friends, especially between him and Kagome. He still cared deeply for the old woman, wise beyond her years, whenever any of them had a question, she always had an answer.

Inuyasha wanted to spend his life with Kagome, but something awful had happened and he had no clue to what it was. His thoughts were impaired for what seemed like forever. Nothing was right and the jewel had disappeared, leaving him no access to Kagome's time. He was devastated and still was.

Along with Kagome and the jewel, Naraku had also disappeared, without a trace. His incarnations had also vanished. The thoughts and images of the bastard were still fresh in his mind and he had swore up and down to destroy him.

As he finished his stew he got up to take a walk, leaving his two companions alone in the hut. He slowly walked out of the village to the forest where the tree that he had once been pinned to for fifty years thrived. The grass under his feet was soft and wet, it had previously rained and the stickers had died, leaving the grass pleasurable to walk on.

His hair billowed softly in the wind as he walked, his ears twitching back and forth catching every noise around him, mapping out the area. Every once in a while a twig would snap under the immense pressure of his feet, giving away his position and scaring away the creatures that lived and carried out their lives during the day.

He arrived at the well, the same well that the young girl that transformed into a young woman before his eyes emerged from, setting him free from his deep slumber of fifty agonizing years. He had tried everything to seal it up and keep her away from his time, in order to keep her safe. He had stolen her shards and jammed a tree into the well, in hopes of keeping her safe, but she had always found her way back to him. Wishing now that she would come up from the well and smile at him, he missed her smile so much, along with her laughter.

It was funny how someone you loved was easy to send away yourself, but when they decide to leave by their own accord, you want them back so badly, that you would sell your soul. He missed her so much. He remembered all the times that he would grow so furious with her for leaving and being gone so long. He would go to her time and drag her back to his.

He was such a fool sometimes, even more so for not telling her how he felt. He had never felt so empty, his heart not wanting him to live or move on. He sat on the edge of the deteriorating well and thought about Kagome for a bit. Wondering if she was alright and happy, wondering if she missed him, because he certainly did.
