Raven was dropped into a chair before a large oak desk. She gave a mental growl to Hiei, knowing perfectly well that he picked it up because she could feel him smirk. Mumbling under her breath, she stood and joined Kagome before the desk. The detectives remained towards the back as the girls faced the leader of Renkai.

“Lady Kagome, it is a pleasure to finally meet you.” A toddler jumped up onto the desk and gave a small bow to Kagome. Kagome eyed him a moment before she couldn't help it anymore. She burst out into a fit of giggles. Koenma frowned at her a moment before he glanced over to the demoness. It was exactly as he thought a fire shadow hound, a very lethal demon.

“Control yourself, Kags.” Raven sighed.

“Sorry.” Kagome said between giggles. “Wasn't what I was expecting. You wanted to see me?” Koenma let out a sigh.

“You are the Guardian of the Shikon no Tama, correct?” he asked.

“Yes.” Kagome answered.

“May I see it?”

“Well,” Kagome shifted around nervously. “I kind of broke it.”

“What?!” Koenma shouted. His father was going to kill him!

“You heard her you damnable toddler. It's broken and we are working on putting it back together. So keep your diaper on.” Raven snapped. Yusuke and Kuwabara started cracking up behind her. Koenma looked over to her before picking up a file on the corner of his desk.

“Lets see here,” he flipped through it, “Raven…age 300 years…full blooded fire shadow demon…killed 400 years ago…soul never made it to Renkai…care to explain yourself?”

“No.” she glared. Koenma sighed and continued reading.

“It says here you were destined to die by your father's hands.” Raven bristled. “But someone…” he suddenly glanced up at Hiei as if seeing him in a different light, “Someone intervened and finished it their selves, in an act of pity.” Raven let out a low growl of warning before she leapt across the desk and grabbed him around his throat.

“You're telling me,” she shook him as Yusuke and Kuwabara grabbed her trying to pry her away from the little prince, “That I was supposed to die beneath the man I had to call father.”

“Well…your race was supposed to die out that day.” Koenma stuttered. Raven let out a howl of fury and flung the toddler across the room. Yusuke and Kuwabara were thrown back off of her. Kurama pulled back Kagome to keep her from getting hurt as the youkai ki flew around the office. Raven advanced on the fallen Renkai prince.

“I did die. You and your father's little plan of extinguishing my race did work. I guess you didn't take into account that Midriko herself would intervene in my death. Don't worry…I would hate to disappoint your schedule. As soon as I am done with Kagome's training I will return to my damn grave.” Kagome gave a little cry and struggled to get away from Kurama to comfort the woman she had grown to call a sister. Koenma switched over to his older form so he towered over Raven.

“It would be in your best interest if you did.” He said in an icy voice that none of the others had ever heard him use. Raven let out another growl and suddenly she had her claws around his neck again. If the situation wasn't dire it would have been almost comic to see such a small woman drawing blood from the teenage form of the prince. The others stood still, unsure of what to do as the red seeped into Raven's eyes. She was going into rage and they had no idea what she was capable of. Koenma saw a hand come from the corner of his eye. A masculine arm with holy bindings reached out and grabbed her wrists. Raven let out a growl but never looked at Hiei.

“Damnit, Raven. Let go before I break your wrists!” he snapped at her. She ignored him. He let out a savage growl and broke her from him and pinned her against him as she struggled to escape his hold.

“Let me go, Hiei! I will kill him! I'll show him return to my grave! The bastard! I will tear all the three worlds apart to show him exactly why my kind is feared!” Raven snarled, the red slowly disappearing from her dark eyes.

“You will be doing nothing but proving what they believe.” He hissed in her ear. Raven stilled and then slumped against him. Kagome broke from Kurama and rushed to the fallen demoness.

“Raven, are you okay?” she asked softly. Raven looked up at her as tears of blood ran down her cheeks.

“I'm sorry, Kags. I guess I'm being selfish.” Raven smiled softly, the blood on her cheeks making her look downright evil.

“No you're not, everyone deserves to live, Rave.” Kagome said softly before she hugged her adopted sister. “Besides, if you don't pull yourself together I am telling Sesshomaru when we see him again.” Raven stiffened under the threat.

“You wouldn't dare.” She said low. Kagome gave a smile that was purely wicked, one she had seen Raven give on many occasions.

“Oh, yes I would. I have learned from the best.” She smiled. Raven struggled from Hiei's grasp and pulled her into a hug.

“Thanks, Kags. If it wasn't for you, I would be dead.”

“Ahem.” Koenma interrupted. This time all the boys snarled at him. He looked at him sheepishly. “There is still the matter of the Shikon no Tama. It needs to be put back together. Your new assignment is to assist Lady Kagome…and Lady Raven,” he looked hesitantly at Hiei who looked absolutely murderous, “To complete the jewel before it falls into the wrong hands.”

“Oh, Inu Yasha isn't going to like this.” Kagome said quietly. Raven snorted and switched into her version of Inu Yasha.

“Oy! Wench! What do you think your doing bringing those…males…here! We have jewel shards to look for!” Kagome broke out into laughter at Raven's imitation. Botan opened a portal to the shrine and as everyone went through Koenma called to Raven.

“Lady Raven, I will petition my father to allow you to remain in the realm of living. You have proven yourself above your kind by assisting the Guardian. I thank you and I am…truly sorry for all the pain you have gone through.” Raven gave a smile that could stop any male's heart.

“Do you really mean that? Or do you fear Hiei's wrath?” she asked while tilting her head. Koenma gulped.

“Of course I mean it. Now, go… take care of yourself.” Raven gave him a salute and disappeared into the portal where she found herself back on the shrine grounds. She noticed that Hiei was the only one waiting outside for her as he jumped from a tree. She gave a devilish smirk, very similar to his own before she pounced on him.

“I get to live!” she squealed.

Kagome smiled as she looked outside at Raven. She knew better than to judge someone by their actions. She owed Hiei an apology whether or not he would accept it. Kurama came to stand by her as he looked at what had her smiling and felt his jaw almost drop.

`Wonder if he knows her?' Youko asked sarcastically. Kurama gave a mental snort.

`I believe we know the answer to that now.' He watched as Hiei pulled the fiery demoness into an embrace, a look of sheer joy upon his face.

“They were the best of friends.” Kagome whispered as she looked up at him. “I take it he hides himself from you and the others.”

“To an extent, yes.” Kurama answered. “You know how they know each other?”

“Yep!” Kagome smiled up at him. “They grew up together in the group of thieves. Hiei taught Raven how to wield a blade and she in turn teaches me.” Her voice grew somber. “He tried to save her from her father when he and the others turned on her. They raped her and made him watch.” Kurama let out a hiss. No wonder Hiei never let anyone close to him, to watch your only friend raped by her father and able to do nothing must have made something snap in him. Kagome sensed his train of thoughts.

“He killed them all. But by the time he got to Raven, it was too late. She was dying and suffering. The silver scar over her heart is where he stuck her with his katana. He gave her dying wish, to go with what honor she had left and not in pain and humiliation. From what I have been able to find about him, he went on a murderous rampage after her death.” Indeed, Kurama thought. He remembered hearing about it and asking his partner what the meaning behind it was, but he refused to say.

`She's going to slowly tear down the walls he's builtaround himself. Yukina has donea lot but I think Raven will be the one to show us who Hiei really is.'

`I think your right, Youko.' Kurama agreed as he looked down on the head of the miko.

Kagome awoke with a start as a very icy cold waterfall descended upon her. She let out a shriek of outrage and glared at the culprit. Raven tried to look small before bolting out the door with Kagome on her heels.

“Get back here, Raye!” she shrieked. Yusuke poked his head out of the living room in time to see a soaking wet Kagome fly past him. He could hear Raven laughing in the kitchen.

“I can't hold back the boys much longer, Kags. You need to eat before training anyway.” Raven laughed from her place on the counter. Hiei stood in the corner rolling his eyes at her antics as the fuming miko went back upstairs to change.

Kagome pulled on a pair of form fitting black shorts and a tank before grabbing her practice katana. She hesitated a moment when she saw a black blur jump into the tree outside her window. Making up her mind she went over to the window and opened it.

“Hiei?” she called out softly. She got a grunt for a reply. “Uh…I am sorry about before…” if she could have seen his face she would have laughed, “I know better than to judge people on their past, but Raven has become to mean so much to me and my friends. I worry about her sometimes. I understand you did what you did to help your friend and while you may not care that I am apologizing…I am sorry for trying to purifying you and hope we can start afresh.” Not really expecting an answer Kagome headed downstairs to enjoy the rare pleasure of Raven's cooking.

A lone fire apparition was at a loss for words when the miko left. He was use to be judge for his past but never had anyone ever apologized for judging him. He snorted; the miko was too forgiving for her own good.

WHACK.

Same fire apparition found himself face implanted on the ground. He let out a feral growl before looking up. Raven grinned down at him.

“Still in love with the trees, Spikey?” she asked sweetly. A sweet laughter floated to his ears.

“He hits the ground almost as hard as Inu Yasha when I `sit' him.” Kagome laughed from across the yard. Hiei growled.

“What do you want, kitty?” he smirked as he leapt up into the tree. Raven frowned.

“Don't call me that.” She snapped.

“Don't call me `Spikey'.”

“Arrogant bastard.”

“Insufferable bitch.” Raven snorted.

“At least you got my species right.” She wagged her fingers at him before turning to Kagome. “Let's get your training going again, Kags. But first,” she smiled, “Happy Birthday.” Kagome stood shocked. She had forgotten her own birthday!

“Kami! I forgot my own birthday!” she yelled. She heard another snort from the tree.

“No one wants you opinion, Spikey!” Kagome snapped before covering her mouth. Hiei arched an eyebrow at her. Kagome glowered. “I have been around Raven too long.”

“You make it sound like a bad thing, Kags.” Raven pouted. At this time Kurama came up the shrine steps with Kuwabara while Yusuke emerged from the house.

“I hope everything is going well this morning?” Kurama asked. Kagome and Raven both snorted before breaking out into giggles.

“Just being hard on Hiei.” Raven laughed. She walked over to the tree Hiei was currently occupying and sat beneath it. She gestured to her side and Kagome took a seat. The others followed suit while Hiei remained in the tree…sulking. Raven produced a box from no where wrapped in silver paper. Kagome gave a squeal.

“Raven! You didn't!” she said.

“I didn't.” Raven shrugged. “It's from Sango. We all agreed you would open it here away from the puppy.” Kagome undid the paper and open the box and gasped. Inside was a fighting outfit similar to what Sango wore only done in blue and silver.

“Raye, it's beautiful.” She whispered as she fingered the material. Raven produced another box, this one long and wrapped in green. Kagome looked at it wearily.

“This is from me, Kags.” Raven said softly. Kagome took the box from her nervously and tore of the paper. A long wooden box made from black wood sat in her lap. Taking a deep breath she opened the lid and gasped. A beautiful blade glittered back at her with a simple handle but with the kanji for `guardian' upon it. A small gem was set in the hilt and Kagome fingered it lightly. “Listen to me, Kagome.” Raven said and Kagome looked up at her teacher, “This is a very special blade. No other can use it except you. I have had one of my fangs put into it to ensure it is indestructible and…it can handle your miko ki.”

“Oh, Raven. Thank you!” the miko threw her arms around the demoness, a few tears escaping. Raven allowed a small smile to escape.

“Only the best for you, Kags. Now, something from Lady Midriko.” Raven suddenly sniffed. “Don't mind Hiei if he gets moody about it…he's just upset because it's cuter than him.” She smirked up into the tree and was met with an acorn in the head. “Hey! That was so uncalled for!”

“Hn.” Was her reply. The rest of the detectives were finding it very hard to keep a straight face during the exchange. These two women knew how to get a rise out of the fire apparition and could actually live to see another day. Raven leaned over to Kurama.

“Told you.” She whispered and met another acorn. “Where in the hell are you finding those things?” she demanded.

“Must be making friends with the squirrels.” Kagome muttered while the others broke into fits of laughter. Raven pulled out a large box and set it carefully in front of Kagome.

“It's a squirrel.” They heard Hiei mutter before there was more laughter.

“Still cuter than you.” Kagome smiled before opening the box. Raven was really rubbing off on her. She better be careful or should would start calling Sesshomaru `Fluffy'……….to his face. “How Kawaii!!!” Kagome squealed making all the demons wince. She pulled out a black neko with silver markings. “For me?” she asked. Raven rolled her eyes.

“Baka.” Hiei muttered from up in his tree.

“No one asked you, Spikey!” Raven and Kagome said at the same time.

“What his name?” Kagome asked.

“Its up to you.” Raven said quietly. Kagome stroked the neko's fur and noticed it had read eyes. She got a devilish gleam in her eyes, one the others' had associated with the demoness.

“I think I will call you…..Spikey!” she giggled as a certain fire apparition fell from his perch. Raven peered around the trunk of the tree to see said fire apparition's eyebrow twitch in annoyance.

“I think she's calling you cute!” Raven laughed, as both Hiei and Kagome blushed.

“Hn.” Hiei leapt back into the tree.

“Oh, no you don't! Hiei, please. I need you to spar with Kags today. She needs to work on her miko ki and it won't work on me.” Raven pouted.

“You want me to get purified?” Hiei demanded.

“It would be an accident.” Kagome mumbled. Raven broke out into laughter again. Hiei gave his trademark reply before leaving the tree and taking Kagome and her new blade out into the courtyard to start. Raven smiled and sat down again to relax and meditate. She still wasn't back to her full strength and needed to work on it.

Unknown to her she was being watched by green eyes.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^
Kagome grumbled again as Hiei corrected her stance again before making her go through the paces…AGAIN.

“Hn, Raven is too easy on you.” He growled as he watched her move, finally with the fluid movements he expected. Kagome snorted before allowing just the smallest of purifying ki tendril curl behind him.

“She's not a slave driver.” Kagome snapped. Hiei grunted.

“You think that in an actual battle your opponent will go easy on you?” he snapped back at her.

“I know that!” Kagome did a very good impression of a growl, allowing the tendril to move in just a little closer. Hiei rolled his eyes and pulled out his own katana and two set to circling each other. Kagome kept a small part of her mind cleared to make sure she didn't lose the tendril of miko ki. They charged each other and clashed. He was quick, much faster than Raven and much more relentless. Kagome knew she wouldn't be able to hold her own with him long. But if he had come at her months ago she would have been dead before she could notch an arrow. Thank you, Raven. Kagome's momentarily spacing out almost cost her dearly as Hiei's katana came awfully close to her throat. She brought her katana up to block.

“Pay attention!” he snapped. Kagome growled again and pushed him off of her. They continued on a little longer until Kagome could feel herself getting tired. She could feel sweat dripping down her brow and she longed to push it out of her eyes so she could concentrate. Hiei saw her weakness and went for it. She was soon on the ground with a katana at her throat. Hiei rolled his eyes at her again and sheathed his katana.

“Your not going to offer me a hand up?” Kagome snapped. Hiei narrowed his eyes at her.

“Why should I do that?” he asked. Kagome growled and allowed the tendril of miko ki to hit the back of his neck. She smiled, satisfied at his started yelp. She pulled herself of her ground and sheathed her katana, ignored the thoroughly pissed apparition behind her as she went inside to get some water. That onna is going to drive me insane, he thought to himself as he watched her retreating form and couldn't help but notice the sway of her hips. He shook his head; yep…she was defiantly going to drive him insane. But, he had to hand it to her, she had guts.

“Fascinating creature.” Youko purred in Kurama's mind.

“Yes, quite. She is quite a puzzle.” Kurama agreed and he could feel the kitsune stir with delight.

“I love a good puzzle.” Youko's tails wagging in delight. Kurama mentally agreed as he watched the demoness stretch. She wore a pair of black training shorts that showed off her delicious legs and a sleeveless green tank that showed off her scars and an interesting tattoo.

“Like what you see, Fox?” Raven purred like a cat from her position on the ground. Youko fought to come forward throwing Kurama off guard as his eyes turned gold.

“Yes, quite.” He purred back. Raven stiffened and looked at him, a slight blush staining her cheeks. “I must say, that color suits you.” Raven grumbled about kinky kitsunes while Youko chuckled, giving control back to Kurama.

“Sorry about that.” Kurama said nervously. Raven waved her hand at him, trying to will her flaming cheeks back to normal.

“Don't worry, he just caught me off guard. I kind of was asking for it anyway with my comment.”

“You have no idea.” Youko mumbled from the back of Kurama's mind.

“Youko, you're lucky we are still in one piece. What would Hiei think?”

“You are blind, Red. Can't you tell that the relationship the two shares is a sibling one? Even the miko, Kagome told us that last night. Besides, she is absolutely delicious and she does remind me of a feline. Hm, maybe we should start calling her kitten.” Kurama groaned.

“Do I even want to know?” Raven said dryly. Kurama shook his head. Raven gave him a small smile that made the Youko in him shiver. “I can't imagine the pain you two put Hiei through since he has a Jagan eye now.” She put her head in her hands and she leaned over giving Kurama a very nice peak at some cleavage. Youko purred in delight.

“Uh…yes…he does hear some….interesting things.” Kurama cleared his thoart thinking on some of the more…sexual advances the kitsune in him used on the fire apparition. Raven's smile grew bigger.

“Think you can teach me some?” she purred. Kurama's green eyes became flecked with gold.

“You should have been a kistune.”

HA! Bet you didn't see THAT coming! In fact, I didn't see it coming! I surprised myself! In case you haven't figured it out yet, the pairings are Kag/Hiei (one of my favs) and Kur/Raven. I find the two get along quite fine, especially when you through Youko in the picture. Face it; the both of them are too mischievous for their own good. The next chapter Inu Yasha is going to make his appearance. He can never stay away too long. But what will he think of Hiei with his Kagome? ~EvilLilVixen
