Chapter 14: Naraku's Plot

Naraku watched the confrontation between the taiyoukai and the new demoness. He needed to find a way to destroy her. All the rest of the Inu Tachi had a weakness. The hanyou had Kikyo, the little miko was the kit, the houshi his windtunnel, and the taijiya was her little brother. The taiyoukai would probably join up with the blasted group because of the demoness. But he could be easily distracted with the human child that followed him around. He was aware of the newest members but he was positive that with all the demons at his disposal, they could be easily distracted.

 

Kagura, the wind demoness entered the chambers flanked by a dark shadow.

 

“Did you find him?” Naraku demanded. Kagura nodded as she stepped aside revealing a male demon. He was very tall with black markings upon his face. He had a round black diamond upon his brow. His black hair was long with red tips and his tail was thrown over his shoulder. The demon bowed.

 

“I have heard much of you Naraku. What do you require of me?” the male demon asked.

 

“Your kind is slowly dying out, Lord Xerxes.” Naraku said as he looked at the fire shadow hound. “Have you found a suitable mate?” Xerxes snorted.

 

“Female hounds are hard to come by; a shadow fire hound is even harder.”

 

“What if I told you I knew where one was…and she was in heat?” Naraku asked. Xerxes raised an eyebrow.

 

“And I would answer, what do you require of me?” Naraku laughed.

 

“Take her as your own. Just keep her away from her companions.” Xerxes looked skeptical.

 

“Why should I trust you?” Xerxes demanded. Naraku sneered.

 

“Kanna!” he called for the void youkai. She stepped forward with her mirror tightly clasped in her hands. “Show him the demoness.” Raven appeared as she was in the mirror. Her clothes tight upon her body and covered in the blood and guts of the boar youkais. She had the fierce protective look in her eyes as she stood before a little girl. Xerxes breathe caught in his throat.

 

“I'll do it.” He said. With that he turned tail and left. Naraku laughed as he watched him go. Soon he would have the whole Shikon no Tama in his hands. Perhaps he could celebrate afterwards, the little miko looked absolutely divine in her fighting outfit.

Kagome held her breathe as she watched Raven and Lord Sesshomaru stare each other down, though to her it looked like Sesshomaru was ogling at Raven but quickly regained himself. Now, he looked down right murderous.

 

“You dare deny me my wards, onna?” he snarled. Raven growled at him.

 

“You have proven yourself incapable of protecting them in my eyes, male.” She snapped at him. Sesshomaru growled.

 

“Hand over my wards, demoness, and I will let you live.” His growls got louder. Raven snorted before yanking one of her blades out of the ground.

 

“Prove to me you are capable.” Raven said is a breathless voice. Her heat was intensifying and the prospect of an upcoming battle was sitting her afire.

 

Lord Sesshomaru snarled loudly as he lunged at her, his own sword drawn. Raven quickly leapt away from Rin and her companions. She didn't know if he would harm them to get to her or not.

 

Their swords met and clanged loudly through the clearing. Raven gritted her teeth as she pushed against them to knock the demon lord off of her. His eyes had already seeped red and he was out for blood. She could not call upon her own beast for fear of harming all those she held dear.

 

She lunged out of the way of his blade, watching as a few of her hairs went with it. That was too close…especially since her hair was still bound upon her head. Sesshomaru was going to get her head if she wasn't careful. She called forth the Shadow Flame in her other hand and formed it into a whip. Sesshomaru saw was she was doing and called his own whip. They clashed and tangled created a deep purple color where they met. Raven tried to pull it back as did Sesshomaru but they stayed tangle. Raven threw her blade and grabbed the whip with her other hand. Sesshomaru placed his blade back his side and did the same.

 

They tugged.

 

But the whips stayed bonded.

 

Raven snarled. Sesshomaru's eyes were back to gold and he looked irritated.

 

“This is something new.” Raven growled.

 

“This Sesshomaru cannot withdraw the whip.” He snarled. Raven tried pulling her's back into the Flame. Sesshomaru's whip came flying at her and snapped her across her face. Raven recoiled from the searing poison on her face a she cried out. Sesshomaru looked shocked.

 

Raven held the side of her face with her scars. The searing poison in the whip hurt as much as her father's. She hissed. Her hand glowed with her miko ki as she attempted to remove the poison. Sesshomaru sighed; he didn't really want to hurt the demoness. He wasn't expecting his whip to lash at her when she called her's back into the Flame.

 

“My salvia can counteract the poison.” He said coldly. Raven snarled.

 

“Like I haven't heard that one before.” She snapped as her eyes darted to the silver kitsune. Sesshomaru's eyes followed hers as he stiffened. Youko looked at the taiyoukai in open hostility. His golden eyes screaming claim at the demon lord. So, the kitsune sought the demoness for himself? Interesting.

 

“Raven.” Sesshomaru's voice cut cold through the clearing. “I will forgive this matter if you come to me.” Raven looked at him like he had lost his mind. He gave a barely audible sigh as he disappeared. He reappeared before her. Raven squeaked as he scooped her up in his arms and took to the skies.

 

“The bastard.” Youko snarled. Inu Yasha snickered.

 

“Glad someone agrees with me.” He said.

 

“Shut up, Inu Yasha. He is only trying to help, Raven.” Kagome said as she untangled herself from Hiei. “You should know how painful your brother's poison whip is.” Inu Yasha gave a `feh'. Rin looked at Kagome.

 

“Where did Lord Sesshomaru and the pretty lady go?” she asked. Kagome sighed.

 

“They'll be back, Rin. Don't worry.” Kagome smiled at the little girl.

 

“I would hope so.” A dark voice came into the clearing. “I don't want that dog near my mate.” Youko stiffened. What was with the males wanting his mate?

 

“Who the hell are you?” Yusuke demanded. The youkai male stepped into the clearing.

 

“Lord Xerxes of the shadow fire hounds.” He answered. One of Naraku's poisonous insects came down to him and buzzed by him. Xerxes nodded before glancing at the group. “It seems Naraku doesn't like you.”

 

“That's an understatement.” Kuwabara said. The others nodded.

 

“It seems he wants me to try a hand at killing you all for your shards.” Xerxes answered as he grinned. Inu Yasha drew tetsusaiga.

 

“You could try!” he snarled. Xerxes bared his fang as he called the Shadow Flame and formed it into a blade. The battle for the shards began.

 

Inu Yasha raised his tetsusaiga and released the Kaze no Kazu. Kagome pulled back the children and placed a miko ki barrier around them while she drew her bow. She would stay back and pick him off with her ki arrows.

 

Xerxes watched as the windscar came towards him. He stared at it impassively before resurrecting a Shadow barrier before him. It absorbed the windscar and grew in strength from it.

 

“That leaves out any ki attacks.” Youko said as he ran a hand through his hair removing a couple seeds. Inu Yasha stepped back next to him snarling. Hiei had moved to the other side with his own blade in hand.

 

“Any weaknesses?” Inu Yasha looked over to Hiei. The hybrid looked at him from the corner of his eye. “You have killed these guys before.”

 

“Hn…I could release the Dragon…”he said as he looked at the demon. But that could endanger everyone in the clearing. There might have been a time when he wouldn't have thought twice but as his eyes wandered over to a blue eyed miko covering the two children…he found that he was second guessing things. Was he becoming trapped in that human emotion called love?

 

“My arrows won't work!” Kagome shouted to the males. Spikey had transformed and stood proud by her side. Miko powers didn't work on the shadow fire hounds. So, that left her out of the fray. Sango was in the air upon Kirara as she assessed the situation below. She released her bone boomerang with a cry. Xerxes looked up and watched the weapon hurtle towards him. His eyes narrowed as he bat it away.

 

“My windtunnel may be able to suck up the flames!” Miroku claimed.

 

“I'm willing to try anything at this time.” Yusuke shouted on the other side of Xerxes. Miroku pulled his beads from his hand and directed it towards the barrier.

 

Xerxes saw his chance. While they were watching the barrier, he would go after the defenseless miko.

Raven was currently pinned to a tree by Sesshomaru. Any self respecting demoness would kill to be in her place. But Raven just wanted get down!

 

“So stubborn.” He whispered in her ear as he finished wiping the blood from her cheek. His claws lingered on the claw marks upon her cheek. He silently wondered what had caused the marks upon her body. He looked down at her as she struggled against him. He let out an inaudible sigh as he released her from the hold. She seemed to shake herself off and take a deep breath. As she did…she completely stilled.

 

She could feel it, the call of another male from her own species.

 

“Something is wrong.” Her voice came out breathless. Sesshomaru stiffened and raised his nose to the air. At first, he couldn't smell anything. But that was the point, there was nothing.

 

“There is a battle.” He answered her. Raven's eyes darted around the clearing. Sesshomaru frowned.

 

“Male.” She whispered. Her heat cycle was drawing towards its peak. Her breathing became heavy; it wasn't till she smelled Kagome's blood upon the wind that she bolted with Sesshomaru hot on her trail.

 

 

Kagome looked up as she felt Spikey leave her side. She had been trying to comfort Rin when she noticed the neko's absence. She looked up at the towering figure above her.

 

She screamed.

 

“Kagome!” Hiei shouted. The others looked over towards the defenseless miko as Xerxes raised his Shadow blade into the air. Kagome raised her arms above herself. There was nothing she could do. No one could make it to her in time.

 

Inu Yasha bolted towards the miko, a black blur past him as he watch Hiei go on ahead. Was he going to make it?

 

Raven burst through the clearing and darted towards the male youkai threatening her sister. She watched in silent horror as the blade tore through Kagome's flesh. She was the closest to her. She had to make it before he killed her.

 

A shoulder dug into Lord Xerxes causing the sinking blade to disappear from his hand. No matter, the miko will die from blood loss. He thought to himself as he directed his attention to what disrupted his kill.

 

Raven didn't give him a chance to gain his bearings as she slammed her fist into his face. Hiei had already reached Kagome and was holding her to himself as he tried to stop the bleeding. She wasn't moving. Kagome's lifeless body fueled Raven's attacks as she sought to destroy the intruder.

 

Xerxes went through several trees from the last blow delivered to his body. He shook his head as he looked up. A demoness stood above him, her heated scent wafted through his nose causing him to drool. So this is my demoness. He thought to himself as he stood up to tower over her. Wonderful.

 

“I am going to enjoy my claws tearing through your flesh.” Her voice sent a shiver down his spine. He was going to enjoy breaking her.

 

“I think not, beautiful.” He smiled. “I was only sent here to get you, and you I shall have.” The demoness snarled at him as she lunged at him. His claws caught her in the gut but her own hand reared back and sunk into his face. He roared in pain as he flung her off of him. Raven crashed into a tree where she panted for breath. Xerxes clawed at his face to stop the poison. He disappeared in a swirl of flame.

 

She forced her aching body up and over to Kagome. Sesshomaru stood above her with a frown on his face. Tensiaga was not answering his call for the miko. Raven saw his face and gave a choked cry.

 

“I am so sorry, Kags.” She whispered as her hand reached out.

 

“Did you get the bastard?” Inu Yasha said quietly as he sat across from Hiei who was holding Kagome and looking for all the world in denial.

 

“He ran, the coward.” Raven hissed. She couldn't let Kagome die. She accepted her for what she was. She kept Hiei in line…dear Kami…the dumbass was in love with her! She couldn't let her die, she wouldn't let it happen. Not as long as she still had a breath in her body.

 

“Put her down.” Raven snapped as she stood up. She pulled out a dagger. Hiei looked up at her and noticed her eyes swirling black. He really didn't want to put the body down, that would be admitting that he wasn't fast enough to get to her in time.

 

“What are you going to do?” Sango cried out. Raven shook her head as she sunk the dagger deeply into her wrist. She gritted her teeth as she knelt down next to Kagome. She sunk her dagger the same way into Kagome's wrist and clasped the two wounds together. She forced her life's force into Kagome's body as she bit into her other wrist. That she placed over Kagome's mouth.

 

“Call upon the gate's Spirit.” Raven whispered as her eyes turned black. “Allow the unworthy to take in the essence, through my sacrifice…give life.”

 

There in the darkness, Kagome was afraid. Somewhere in the back of her mind…she knew she was dead.

 

“No!” she cried out. What about Shippo? Who would make sure Inu Yasha didn't beat him up? Who would make sure Sango didn't kill Miroku before they could marry and have lots of children? Who would help Raven find love in Kurama? What about Hiei? What would happen to him?

 

“Miko.” A voice echoed through the darkness. Kagome's head snapped around to a red light. A figure appeared before her and her breath hitched.

 

A male stood before her with black hair that trailed to his knees. His eyes were black and black markings adorned his face. He was tall, very tall and held a staff. Kagome looked around and saw gates. Was she in hell?

 

“I am the Gate Spirit. It is through me, that the shadow fire hounds were created.” He said, his voice rolling like thunder.

 

“Then why am I here?” Kagome asked.

 

“My daughter.” He said. Kagome looked confused. “Raven” he clarified.

 

“What?!” she asked. He let out a very small smile.

 

“As we speak, she is feeding your lifeless body with her own life force. If it is not stopped, it will kill her.” He said sadly. “As much as I wish to look upon my daughter's face, it is not her time.”

 

“No, I can't let her do that! Stop her!” Kagome demanded.

 

“There is a way, Shikon Miko. But the decision rests in you.”

 

“I don't care. Just don't let Raven do something so stupid!” Kagome said. The Gate Spirit nodded.

 

“Her blood is being fed into your veins.” He said. “Use it, become her true sister. Bind it to yourself. Continue my line. Become my second daughter.”

 

“She really is your daughter.” Kagome whispered, seeing the similarities.

 

“The male who raised who was not her sire.” He answered her solemnly. Kagome nodded her head.

 

“What do I do?” she asked him. He smiled a familiar smile at her as he placed his claw hand upon her head.

 

“Embrace what you were always meant to be.” He said. Kagome closed her eyes and dived within herself. She saw the pink of her miko powers and the blue of her life force. Faintly surrounding her life force, she could see the fiery red of Raven's life. She looked around and her eyes widened. There flowing all around her, was the lavender color of Raven's blood. She pulled it towards herself. Slowly she gathered her life force and her miko ki before mushing it all together.

 

“Here goes nothing.” Kagome mumbled as she let it go.

 

“Say hello to her for me.” The masculine voice whispered to her before everything went black.

 

Raven was blown back from the body. Kagome's eyes flew open as her back arched and she left out a soundless scream. Her eyes bleed black as she convulsed. Her hair fanned around her taken on a bluish tint while red streaks framed her face. A single black mark graced each cheek and a black diamond appeared upon her brow. Her ears became pointed and her petty fingernails became claws. Slowly a long sleek black tail emerged from her back bone. The Shadow Flame ran down the length of her body before it all disappeared leaving Kagome smoking.

 

Youko had rushed to Raven and picked up her lifeless body. He ran his tongue over her wounds on her wrists. Once they were closed he placed his ear to her chest to hear her faint heart beat. He breathed a sigh of relief.

 

Kagome sat straight up.

 

“Oh!” she cried as she looked at everyone. Her now dark icy sapphire eyes darted to Raven. “Is she alive?” she whispered. Youko nodded. “Good, because when she wakes up I am going to kill her!”

 

“Kagome.” Inu Yasha said to her and she looked at him. “Is that you?”

 

“What do you mean?” she asked as she looked down at herself. “Oh…yea.” She shrugged. She had shrunk in size, now roughly the same size as Raven. Her hair was well past her bottom. Her legs, once lean, were nice and shapely. Hell, she had become bustier one hybrid noted silently. “Do I look okay?” she asked as she fingered her tail.

 

“You are beautiful, Lady Kagome.” Miroku said. The others nodded hurriedly.

 

“We should get Raven somewhere.” Youko said. “She has lost a lot of blood.” Kagome stood up and called Spikey over. The neko hurriedly went over to his mistress and he gave her a once over to make sure she was all there. She laughed at him as he gave her a look that said `never do that again'.

 

“You are only a couple miles from my home.” Sesshomaru said off handly. Kagome smiled at the demon lord.

 

“Thank you, Fluffy.” She grinned wickedly. Sesshomaru looked at her and sighed. He motioned for them to follow as they all headed towards the west.

“So… this is what it feels like to be hit by a truck.” Raven grumbled as she sat up in the elaborate bed. Kagome giggled from next to her.

 

“And this is what it feels like to be a demoness.” She wrinkled her nose “Everything stinks.” Raven breathed a sigh of relief at seeing her. She ran a finger over the black diamond on Kagome's brow.

 

“My clan's mark.” She said. Kagome nodded.

 

“Yep…you were killing yourself dummy!” Kagome scolded her and Raven shrugged. “The Gate Spirit said I had to embrace your blood to become what I was always meant to be. Now, we are real sisters!” Raven smiled brightly, a smile once known only to Kagome. The two demonesses embraced each other tightly.

 

“I thought you were dead.” Raven whispered. “Who else was going to help me make the males' lives a living hell?” Kagome sighed.

 

“Raven, there's something you should know about the Gate Spirit.” Kagome whispered. Raven looked at her funny.

 

“He's your real father.” Kagome whispered. “And he says `hi'.” Raven turned white.

 

“Really?” she asked. Kagome nodded. A grumble echoed through the room. The two girls looked at each other and blushed. Must be dinner time.

 

Both Kagome and Raven were dressed in black hakamas and silver haoris. They looked everything like twins. Both had their hair pulled back in braids as they wandered down the halls, following their noses to food.

 

“You know that I am going to have to begin training you again.” Raven said offhanded as they walked around. They both ignored the guards' hungry glances.

 

“Why?” Kagome looked horrified. Raven laughed.

 

“To learn how to control your youkai abilities of course.”

 

“Oh.” Kagome smiled. “Can I do that Shadow Flame stuff?” Raven nodded. Kagome squealed. Both winced at the pitch.

 

“You should not be out of bed.” A cold voice said. The girls looked up to see Lord Sesshomaru tower over them.

 

“I was hungry.” Raven pouted. Kagome nodded and crossed her arms over her chest. Both glared at the taiyoukai. He very slightly shifted under the twin glares as he sighed.

 

“Come.” He said. As he turned away, Kagome and Raven shared a high five before hurrying to catch up with the demon lord.

“She is awake.” Lord Sesshomaru said to the red head in his study. Kurama looked relieved. Youko had stayed up for the past several nights watching over Raven. He was recuperating so the young man's mind was silent.

 

“How is she?” he asked the demon lord.

 

“Well enough to insult this Sesshomaru.” He answered. Kurama grinned before taking a seat before the taiyoukai. They had been in the western palace for a week. During that time, he had formed some sort of friendship with the elusive youkai. Hiei had been keeping a silent vigil over Kagome, but he couldn't blame the youkai. Kagome had died on them…then suddenly returned a full blooded demoness.

 

“Where are they at now?” Kurama asked.

 

“Dining hall, they were hungry.” Sesshomaru huffed. Kurama choked on a laugh and maintained a steady face.
