-Chapter One: Running with Scissors-
Kagome thought--as she always does when shes in-front of Koenma, instead of paying attention--that love was allot like running with scissors. How she came to that conclusion, she wasn't sure, but she blamed it on Koenma. He was talking, and Kagome was nodding her head and looking interested, when she wasn't sure what the hell he was talking about.
Love, she knew from experience, is dangerous, and you can get hurt. Just like running with scissors. But...but, you don't always get hurt, and sometimes its fun loving, even though there's the possibility of getting hurt. Just like running with scissors.
She ran her fingers through her hair and looked over Koenma's head, studying the wall behind him, and all its plainness. Yes, she decided, a lot like running with scissors.
"--and so...Kagome? Are you even listening to me?" Koenma frowned around his pacifier and balled his chubby little hands into fists. He should be used to it by know, he figured, she had been in this office, and heard the same old thing for many years, 509 years, to be exact. Ohh, she listened at first, but about after the first year she stopped paying attention and started to memorize the lines and cracks in the walls and floors. But, he sighed, she was good at pretending to pay attention the first 10 minutes.
Kagome looked at the seemingly child slowly, then she blinked. "No.." she sighed, "No, I'm not, but please, continue." She folded her hands in her lap and stared at him, finally listening to him babble on about..something.
He tilted his head and opened his mouth, ready to continue again---then Botan burst into the room, all smiles in her bubbly pink turtle-neck and tan corduroy pants, her hair up in pig-tailed braids.
"Ka-go-me!" she chirped, bounding into the room with her hundred watt smile. "Are you ready to go yet?" she asked, holding out her hand as her oar popped into the room.
Kagome blinked in confusion, but smiled at her happily demented friend anyway. "Go?" she said as she watched Botan jump onto her oar and float beside her. That must have been what Koenma was talking about, Kagome thought as she looked over to the small prince.
Koenma sighed, "Kagome, if you had been listening to me.." he began as Kagome gave a small roll of her eyes, and Botan giggled in response. She knew Kagome was nice and polite when she wanted to be, but she thought that she had enough of that when she was alive. "You're mission is to go down to earth, reap a boy named Suuichi Minamino, he's sick and in the hospital right now, over a broken ankle. Just..do your thing, and Botan will be there to guide him into the Spirit World." His eyes turned serious for a moment and Kagome got worried, "Its important, Kagome, he has a Kitsune spirit inside him, a known thief in Demon World, he could be a threat to Ningenkai. But hurry, with Youko's healing help, he wont be in the hospital much longer." He stood up in his chair and grabbed some papers off his desk, and jumped down. "You have a few hours," he said over his shoulder as he walked out of his office, "go now." As the door closed behind him, he hoped Kagome could go through with it. She's only reaped Adults before, and that's why he didn't want to tell her that Suuichi was only nine years old.

As Koenma left the room, Botan made a gesture with her hand for Kagome to stand, "Maybe you should change.." she murmured as she gave the girl a once-over. "Too much black," she nodded, agreeing with herself.
Kagome blinked and looked down. Black jeans....black shirt...."Hey," she looked back up, "My shoes are white!" she held her foot out for confirmation, white Converses.
Botan tsked and and grabbed Kagome's hand, pulling her up on the oar beside her, "Yes, but there's still black on the shoes. Hold on," Kagome didn't ask, she held on as blue haired friend shot off out of the office, though the corridors, only stopping once to say 'Hi' to George.
Kagomes head spun, and at the this rate, she was sure she was going to hurl if the blue-haired girl didnt slow dow. But, soon enough, they were in-front of Botan's room, in a hall full of thousands of doors, Kagome's own room was just a few hundred down.
They jumped off the oar simultaneously as it disappeared, and Botan typed in her security number and opened the door. The room was much more...mature than you would think, especially since it was Botan. No pink in sight, the walls a light tan color, polished oak wood floors stretched from the living room to her bedroom, the bath and kitchen lined with black marble.
She lead Kagome into her room, the walls a light mixture of purple and blue, her dresser, bed, and side tables the same color as her floor. She had a Hello Kitty bed spread, though, but it seemed to match some how, and Kagome smiled as she sat down in a chair beside the white closet doors.
"Okay," Botan started as she opened the closet, looking at Kagome from the corner of her eyes, "How about blue?" she chirped, excited on dressing her scared looking friend. "It would match your eyes, bring them out more!" she reached in and grabbed a long-sleeved sky blue shirt, and a striped matching scarf. She held them out for Kagome's eyes. "Its cold in Human World around this time, approximately 40 degrees in where we're going, but i would think it feels like 30."
Kagome looked over the clothes and figured they were cute enough, so she took them and sat them in her lap. "The things i do to make you happy..." she murmered as she stood and flung off her shirt, replacing it with the one Botan supplied.
Botan pulled out a knee-length tan skirt and threw it on the bed for her friend. "Kagome, i just dont want people to think you're some goth punk, which is what you usually look like everyday."
The black haired girl scrunched up her nose as she hung the scarf around her neck. "...do not." she muttered as she eyed the skirt, turning skeptical eyes on Botan.
The reaper scoffed, "Put it on, it looks cute." She moved back to the closet and pulled out some black boots, "And take off your shoes, they wont look good with that skirt." She sat down on the bed and looked at the floor while Kagome dressed, crossing her legs.
She pulled on the boots wordlessly, falling to the floor with a sigh when she had accomplished the mission.
Botan stood and helped Kagome do the same, then she took a step back and examined her work. "Purrrfect." she smiled, then turned toward the door, "Ready?" she asked as her oar popped into her hand.
Kagome held out her hand for her own oar as it appeared. "Ready."
