A/N: Thanks so much to those who reviewed, keep it up! Someone asked how she died in a PM, so, here is a little flash back of how Kagome died. Can't she just ever listen to Inu-Yasha?

-Chapter Two: Breathe-

Kagome wasn't sure, but she was 99.9% sure she was dreaming, or something close to it.

Everything was was normal. Or, at least by her definition of 'normal'. The edges of her eyes, though, had a fuzzy tent to it, and she was suddenly feeling light headed. She gave a dazed blink and looked around, trying to zoom on the voice that played almost silently in the back of her mind.

Kagome...

Sango was sitting beside her, Miroku was sitting under the tree Inu-Yasha was in, and Shippou was tucked against Kirara's belly, sleeping.

Kagome held her hands out toward the fire absently, hoping for some of its fiery warmth to drift over to her. It was cold as hell, but being November, it was expected, she guessed. She only hoped it didn't start to rain and/or snow.

"Kagome," Sango's breath was coming out if white puffs as she spoke, her arms wrapped around her torso. Kagome jumped at the sudden sound, the cobwebs in her mind being swept out by Sango's shivering voice. "Please tell me there are some more blankets." her brown eyes looked wide and hopeful as Kagome looked down at her bag.

The bag in question had a big gaping hole in it now, along with some colorful spots of feudal era dirt. The dragon youkai they fought today wasnt particularly nice, and its five inch talons weren't so dull on the end as Kagome had hoped, the hole on the bag and cuts on her back were confirmation of that. She'd have to buy a new bag, along with some more blankets, next time she goes back home,
Whenever that is...Kagome thought with a bitter edge, glaring at the tree that housed the temperamental Inu-hanyou.

She sighed, shooting Sango a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, Sango, it was ruined during the fight with the dragon youkai. We're pretty close to the well," she began, looking sideways at Inu-Yasha--who had his ears turned in their direction--"I could go back home right quick and get a couple clean ones, if you want?" she blurted quickly, already standing and pulling her pathetic bag up with her, being weary of the hole in its side.

Inu-Yasha was just as quick as he shot down from the tree to fume not-so-quietly in-front of the young miko. He glared down at Kagome--she was such a small, delicate thing, she couldn't go out
by herself!! "No-fucking-way, Kagome, its dark out," he barked, waving his hands around as an emphasis to the darkness surrounding them. "Youkai come out this time, and thieves, so no." he crossed his arms, the discussion over.

Inu-Yasha was never right about these things.

Kagome huffed and stomped her foot, she was sure as hell old enough to go out on her own, not some mere child. She was getting so good with aim, and Sango had been teaching her...some moves. She had also gained a keen sense of awareness through many--and she meant many--practiced sessions of meditation with Kaede, and Miroku continued in Kaede’s absence when they're traveling. She could sense jyaki with ease and she could even tell if they meant her harm or not, But she couldn't sense youkai unless they're emitting their youki, and and she figures that it will be a problem in the future.

"Inu-
Yasha," she said, her voice, unfortunately, coming out in a whine at the end. "it's freezing out, and a measly fire isn't going to heat us up. The Well is only about 20 minutes away, I'll be back in no time." Sango nodded in eager agreement at the plan. Kagome could handle herself, she was sure of. Also, Inu-Yasha's ears were good enough, that if she should scream, he would surly hear it and come to her rescue. She handed the girl from the future her bow and quiver of arrows, and watched as Kagome swung the items over her shoulder with ease.

As she walked away from camp, Inu-Yasha growled in frustration, baring his sharp teeth. Couldn't the girl ever listen without being difficult? "Hey, woman, get back here!!" he yelled at a rapidly moving Kagome, who merely ignored his rant in favor of focusing on not falling in the brush of thorns and equally painful hard rocks.

As Inu-Yasha's voice faded out of her hearing, Kagome gave a small sigh of relief that the crazed inu didn't quickly fallow her and drag her back. Though she would be kicking and screaming the whole way, Inu-Yasha always seemed to be tolerant of her voice during those times, unfortunately.

Unknowingly, though, she clutched her bag tighter, her short fingernails digging into the dirty fabric. Cold darkness surrounded her, she could barely see in-front of her as it was. But with practice ease, she jumped over up-grown roots and rocks that came in her way, and ducked when necessary to potentially avoid being knocked unconscious by low branches, and whatnot. Her mind focused on not falling, she failed to notice the inconspicuous youkai fallowing her.

Moonlight shined though the leaves as the forest thinned out, and she was quickly approaching the well. As she stopped momentarily to catch her breath from her fast pace walking, a branch snapped in the distance. Instantly alert, Kagome stiffened, extending her mind, trying to find what was close.

Four or five blue birds, squirrel, baby fox and its mother....

Finding nothing of importance, Kagome moved on, albeit more slowly than before, her mind still open to anything that would come near, but she couldn't hold down on the fear that bubbled up inside her stomach. Though the moon was out, it was a pathetic, but beautiful, light source, and did little to help her fear of the dark and what lay in the shadows of the night.

Kagome...

More whispers sounded in her mind and she broke out into a sprint, hoping to reach the wells clearing soon, her limbs still intact. Either she was getting to be like Inu-Yasha, all paranoid, or something was fallowing her. She was hoping on the latter, but Kagome's luck had never been very good.

A silhouette figure appeared before her eyes before she could blink, causing her to stumble backwards in fright, her arrows falling out of the quiver in the process, but Kagome wasn't paying attention. The thing was blocking her exit, and she figured if she asked it nicely to please move, it wouldn't listen, for it would most likely be to busy ripping her apart.

Kagome snatched up her arrows and scrambled to her feet as the figure stepped back out of the trees, the lights illuminating his face, a gentle smile on his lips, but Kagome knew better, a dagger can be concealed in a smile.

"Hello, Kagome," Naraku said, his voice light, free of malice. He was dressed in a purple kimono, elegant as always, and looking more human that Kagome could remember. No saimyosho flying nearby, no Kanna with her dead eyes and white hands holding her mirror like a lifeline. No Kagura with her red lips twisted into a scowl at having to simply stand by her maker, and Kagome couldn't even scence one single Jewel shard except her own.

Kagome took a hesitant step forward, one hand clutching her jewel fragments around her neck, the other trying to hold onto the arrows without them falling back onto the ground. "Naraku," she breathed, not sure whether to run, or take a chance at shooting at him with an arrow or two. She wasn't as strong and Kikyou, for one, so there was really no chance that she could kill him, and she wasn't that fast of a runner, so if Kouga couldn't outrun him, then she was royally fucked.

He cracked a smile, as though hearing her thoughts, and took a step forward, waiting with faintly amused eyes as Kagome quickly took back her first step. "Oh, why so tense, miko? I do not mean you
much harm."

Even if he would have said 'no harm' Kagome doubted she would have felt any better, but the fact that he was acknowledging he would, in-fact, hurt her, just made her heart pound harder. With said heart in her throat, she glared hard at the hanyou in-front of her, trying to muster up some courage. "What do you want, Naraku?" holding onto one of the arrows, she reluctantly let the rest fall to the moss covered earth. Notching it, she aimed at his chest, the bow string pulled taunt. Her hands shook slightly in half fear, half anticipation. She could scream, she knew, and Inu-Yasha would hear, but Naraku could snap her neck in a half -second before the inu-hanyou could even get halfway there.

He chuckled, seemingly amused at her braveness, but his ruby-keen eyes could see the vibration in her hand, and he wondered if the human woman would even be able to steadily aim with all her nervous shivers. "Do you plan on purifying me, human?" he asked airily, waving a clawed hand in the air, encasing the area in a faintly purple shimmering barrier. Naraku flashed Kagome a fanged smile and let his hand fall back to his side. "Try now."

Kagome's saliva suddenly seemed to thicken as she tried to swallow, the arrow she had aimed pointed downward as she eased on the bow string. She suddenly felt drained as the barrier went up, and absently she wondered why.

"Wonderful, isn't it? It repels the powers of purification, you must feel immensely weak now, right?" he purred, stepping closer as Kagome fell to her knees, the bow and arrow falling from her hands as she went down. He grabbed her chin as her head bobbed down, digging his claws in the soft flesh, angling it upward. "Since you are a miko yourself, it drains your power, drinking on your energy. You see, you rely more than you know on your miko powers. It helps you to keep up with that annoying hanyou. Helps you save your energy." he chuckled, tightening his hand, causing his nails to pierce her skin.

Kagome winced as she felt blood trail down her neck. Tears prickled behind her eyes but she wouldn't cry, she decided she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing her tears. She glared weakly up at him, clinching her teeth as his claws dug deeper and shook her head. He smirked and jerked his hand away, causing an involuntary yelp to escape her lips as she fell to the ground at his sudden movement. Kagome rolled over on her back to stare at the star littered sky, concentrating on the colors of the world above her.

Navy blue, mixes of purple, or pink, light blue...some yellow. She murmured this in her mind as the spider circled her, never taking his eyes off her.

Red.

Naraku sighed, the girl had a way to put a damper on his fun by not crying, or screaming..or both. No one would hear her, of course, the barrier had more than one use, naturally. When the girl looked as though she would fall asleep, he growled and picked up one of her own arrows, stabbing her in the upper right arm with it, pinning her half way to the ground. He smiled, pleased, when she screamed in raw pain and tried to reach over and pull the arrow free from where it was embedded in her arm. He tsked and placed his bare foot on the feathered tip, wiggling and pressing down on the arrow, pulling more screams from the miko. "Now, now, miko, you don't want me to pin the other arm down, do you?" he didn't get an answer, not that he had expected one, and pursed his lips.

Kagome watched, her sight half blinded by the tears she fought against not to fall, as he picked up another arrow and bent down beside her. "You lack what Kikyou possessed," he murmured as he trailed the tip of the arrow across her throat and down the vally between her breasts lightly. "Looks and power, but i suppose those blue eyes of yours make up for the lack of beauty. And these indecent clothes..." he tsked again and moved the sharp blade of the arrow back up, ripping the front of Kagome's sailor school top, shredding the front of her bra in the process.

As he nudged the fabric aside, Narakus eyes looked only on Kagome's face. She had her eyes squeezed shut, trying to block out anything and everything from the outside world, hoping the place inside her mind would be peacefully and pain free. It didn't work, and as the hanyou above her ripped her skirt off, she blushed in shame. She figured she understood what was to come next, but she prayed she was wrong, and that Naraku wasn't like that.

...Kagome never really did get what she wanted when she prayed.

Naraku didn't really pay attention to Kagome's tears now that they finally bubbled over her lashs and made their way down her cheeks. He focused on ridding her of her scandalous clothing. He needed to finish soon, before he got too bored. But Kagome was one to always surprise him.

She thrashed wildly when Naraku started to mark on her skin with the arrow he'd used to strip her of her clothes. As miasma poured into the small cuts--courtesy of Naraku--she writhed in pain at the sheer burn. The sudden change from cold to hot was almost too much, and her head spun. Naraku scowled and held her arm down by the wrist, swiftly forcing the arrow though her palm into the ground underneath it, his eyes focused on how her skin bended like play-dough on the onslaught of the sharp head. He welcomed the scream and the strong smell of the girls blood that hung in the air, the underlining power.

Naraku undressed quickly enough and ripped Kagomes panties from her body as she yelled in protest. Dirt and blood was matted in her hair as she shook her head back and forth, the skin on her hand ripping and she tried to pull it free. Naraku's ears ringed with her voice as he raked his claws across her cheek, momentarily stunning her as he covered her body with his own, roughly grabbing her hips and lifting them apart and up.

All Kagome could do was bite her bottom lip hard to keep from screaming as he tore apart her inner walls, causing hot sticky blood to pool beneath her thighs. Naraku's relentless movements kept her from passing out, but when the pain started to numb, that's when she started to silently panic. Her vision blurred then sharpened, and as something vaguely warm filled her, something sharp slashed across her upper collar bone. Warm blood bubbled up her throat as her mouth opened with a gurgle.

"I always get what i want, miko, and this is no different," Narkau said, his voice deep and distorted to Kagome's dieing ears.

But she eagerly welcomed the darkness.

As Kagome and Botan walked though semi-busy streets, Kagome absently shook her head, willing her human memories to take a hike. She could have easily had them erased, Koenma's offer was still fresh on the table, but she figured it would take away who she was, so she tolerated the day-mares--as she calls them. They're one of the reasons she requested not to be able to sleep.

Botan nudged her side gently, gaining her attention. She raised her hand and pointed ahead of them, gesturing to the towering white building they were quickly closing in on. Kagome raised her eyes from where they were counting cracks on the side walk to look, over the heads of the locals, busy shopping for their Thanksgiving food-stuffs. She absolutely loathed the month of November.

"Maybe," Botan hummed in thought, grabbing Kagome's hand and pulling her allong, trying to speed up their pace. "maybe you should snatch a lab coat, or something. You dont want to look to suspicious in there."

Kagome gave a dry snort, tugging on the scarf wrapped neatly around her throat she murmured, "Wouldn't i already look suspicious since i don't know this guy?" As they walked up to the emergency entrance of the Medical Center, a strong wind blew in, ruffling their hair. Kagome shivered involuntarily.

"Okay," Botan stopped and looked around, making sure there were no ease-droppers around. With only a R.N stuffing out her cigarette and walking though the automatic doors, she nodded to herself. "the..guy's on the second floor, room 127. If you cant find it, ask someone and if they ask who you are, say a relative. He's not admitted here, and he's going to be leaving as soon as the doctor gets back with the pain medication." she patted Kagome on the shoulder and smiled reassuringly, "His mot..--sister is in the cafeteria, so make this quick, `Gome. I'll be at the cafe," she pointed down the street, back where they were walking from.

Kagome didn't even have a chance to turn and look before Botan pushed her though the doors as they opened. Kagome flushed in embarrassment as a woman from behind the front desk looked up in surprise when she stumbled in. Turning to glare at her blue-haired friend, Kagome was only able to vaguely see her back as she walked back into the crowds. Kagome straitened up, pushing down her blush, and run-walked to the elevator before the receptionist could ask any questions.

Pushing the faintly glowing #2 button in the silver glass-like elevator, Kagome sighed in relief when no one else joined, these up-and-down moving 'rooms' freaked her out enough when she was alive, but being semi-dead didn't help to ease the fear that the cable lines would break and she would fall to her 'death'. She jumped, jittery, when a 'ding' sounded in her ears and the doors opened and an onslaught of people tried to board the thing as Kagome frantically tried to get the hell out before the doors shut again.

Now in the surprisingly busy halls of the second floor, Kagome walked seemingly calm as she looked at the numbers on the doors she passed. Coming up quickly at an intersection, she growled to herself. Uneasy, she looked around, her nose scrunching up with the smell of pine-sole and alcohol. With a roll of the eyes, she took a right and started toward the large desk in the waiting room.

"May i help you?" The receptionist asked in a overly happy voice, the bright green eyes behind her thick-rimmed glasses looked dull, and Kagome wondered what the woman was thinking when she took this job.

Kagome looked past her frizzy red hair and leaned causally against the white desk. "Yes, i was looking for room number 127, my brother broke his..." Arm? Finger? Leg?! "..ankle, i sorta got lost on my way up, I'm afraid i cant find his room." Kagome bit her bottom lip, mentally killing the nervous shake that was making its way up her back. The woman blinked and stood, her hand coming up to point behind Kagome to a large sign that hung in the door way, and Kagome instantly spotted the words, 'X-Ray'.

"Down that hall, to the Right, and you'll come to another receptionist desk, they'll point you to the room." with that, the woman sat back down and returned to typing on the computer.

Seeing that she was dismissed, Kagome turned and fallowed the short womans directions, and after convincing the male RN that she was, in-fact, a relative--which didn't take much more that a bat of her eyes and a suggestive smile--she was in-front of room 127. But she didn't move, she didn't even breathe as she stared at the mocking numbers. It was time for work, they laughed at her, time to continue on with your so-called 'destiny', Kagome.

Fighting the urge to rip the numbers off the pristine white door, Kagome gently grasped the door handle and turned it, stepping soundlessly into the room. It wasn't a single patent room, and half the space was covered with fabric to give the illusion is was a single. Kagome couldn't hear anything, just the faint sound of beeping heart monitors in the distance.

Walking forward, she looked around. There was no one on the first bed, but out of the corner of her eyes, she caught site of a blue backpack and small shoes. Kagome's breath hitched at the sight of the kid-like shoes, and her hands unconsciously clinched and unclenched. Walking forward with a quick speed, Kagome jerked back the curtain, her jaw clinching as a little red-headed boy--no older than 10--jumped at the sound of swishing fabric and jingle of the chains holding it up.

They stared at each other for awhile, before Kagome remembered to breathe--she didn't really need to, this body was nothing permanent, air wasn't needed for the mannequin-like body her spirit housed. "Are you," she stopped, her hand dropping from the curtain to lay life-less by her side. "are you..Suuichi?" her voice was tentative, though she knew, in her mind, exactly who he was.

He didn't answer at first, his eyes seemed far-off, like he was having an intriguing conversation inside his own mind. Then it hit her as she looked at him. Koenma said the boy housed another spirit different from his own..Could he actually be having a conversation with this Youko Kurama? "Yes, it is." Kagome's eyes snapped back to the childs own apple green, his eyes more clear, not so clouded.

Information confirmed, Kagome know knew why Botan and Koenma had been so vague on the details of the case. Jaw clenched, Kagome shoved the curtain back into place and walked to sit in the chair parallel to the electric bed Suuichi was sitting on. His leg, from upper calf down, was encased in a blue cast. Kagome leaned back and crossed her legs. "Is blue your favorite color, or something?" she asked, nodding to the backpack on the floor and cast.

The boy's eyes lightened to a gold hue as his eyes drifted to Kagome's legs as she crossed them, exposing a little more of her pale flesh. He gave a cheeky smile when the older girl noticed his stare and blushed, tugging at the hem of the skirt. "Yes." he blinked, the green slowly dominated the gold and the boy titled his head cutely at Kagome's embarrassment.

"The soul," she began, uncrossing her legs and leaning her elbows on her knees, "inside you, i mean. Does it talk to you?"

"Youko?" Suuichi asked, drawing imaginary pictures on the cast.

"Yeah, Youko. He talks to you?"

"He says to stay away from you," he said shortly, his eyes drifting from the pale green wallpaper to the floor and back.

Brows drawn up, Kagome looked at him questionably. "Why?"

"He says 'This woman is death and miko combined, with just a touch of her hand will send you and i both to an early grave.'" Suuichi looked the shocked spirit in the eye, intelligence burning in his apple orbs. More so than the average child. "You wouldn't do that...would you?"

Breaking the stare, Kagome looked down and fiddled with the scarf Botan had lent her. "No.." she murmured. "No, i wouldn't. No one told me you were a kid." as soon as the words left her mouth, Kagome stood in a fluid movement, faster than the boy could blink. "i don't think i would be able to do that..."

In a very small, child-like voice, Suuichi asked, "Are you leaving?"

She gave a curt nod, "Yeah, Suuichi...I have matters to attend to, to see to it that you aren't killed." walking over, she looked down at the child. "...Youko....what are his intentions?"

His eyes shimmered and clouded over, specks of gold and yellow appearing with the green. "He just needed a place to stay." he replied, voice detached, distant. "he doesn't have a body to go back too." They focused, the gold mixtures falling out. "I don't think he's harmful." he whispered.

With a hesitant hand, Kagome patten Suuichi on the shoulder, causing his eyes to snap up to her face at the gesture. "Dont worry, Suuichi--

"Kurama,"

"....What?" Kagome blinked as he interrupted her sentence, her hand falling away from his shoulder.

Suuichi hopped down carefully from the bed to stand beside her, only coming up to reach her upper waist--she was only 5'3. "Youko says my 'human' name annoys him, so he asked for you to call me by his last name. Kurama." he smiled, patting Kagome's hand in reassurance, should she need it.

She chuckled, flashing him a smirk. "Okay, Kurama." she knelt down swiftly, coming eye-to-eye with him. She grasped his shoulders, squeezing them gently. "Don't worry, I'll talk to my...'boss' about this mess, get everything straightened up."

Kurama smiled at the contact and raised his small hands to grip her forearms. "Am i going to see you again?"

Kagome looked off to the side, thoughts running wild. What she was about to do could have some serious consequences, though she didn't have the slightest idea what could actually happen. Koenma would be pissed, and Kagome didn't even want to think about what Enma would to do her if he found out. Purgatory was something that was most likely at the top of the list. She shivered at the though of nothingness for the next 10,000 years or so. "...Probably," Kagome whispered shortly, standing. Her oar appeared in her hand as she held it out. "Yeah, look kid, be careful who you..uhh, touch, and who touches you, okay?" quickly ditching her human body, Kagome's spirit jumped on her oar and prepared to fly out the window when Kurama reached out to her.

He can see me? Her mind murmured as she stopped, looking down at him as he wobbled over.

"Whats your name?" he asked just as the the door opened and a woman in her late 20's came in with a male doctor in tow, her long dark brown hair tied back and her daisy covered dress swishing with her movements.

Kagome shot out the window before the woman noticed her kid talking to thin air, but not before the wind carried Kuramas answer back to him,

"Kagome."
