Chapter One: Getting kidnapped
“How could he?”
Her mind was going crazy. She thought he loved her. He said he wanted to be with her. He even promised himself to her at the end of the battle with Naraku. But…obviously it was all a lie.
Her mind was going crazy. She thought he loved her. He said he wanted to be with her. He even promised himself to her at the end of the battle with Naraku. But…obviously it was all a lie.
She watched as the tears that splattered the ground created dark stains on the earth. She knelt on her hands and knees shaking from the hushed sobs that racked her body. She almost cried out when a sharp peal of thunder and lightning streaked across the sky. She let herself fall over in a heap as the rain washed over her. Flashes of the previous moments blinked across her mind at the same rate as the lightning above.
Flashback:
“Kagome, I'll be back in a little while.”
“Where are you going?”
“I'm going out to hunt; I'm in the mood for deer.”
He gave a toothy grin before sliding out into the night through the hut's door. She smiled to herself. Life was peaceful ever since Naraku was defeated a few months before. The jewel was complete and after the battle it receded back into her body, much to everyone's surprise. They refrained from making a wish, all of them agreeing that it wasn't safe considering the jewel's history.
She sat there with Shippo and kaede sleeping by her side. Sango and Miroku left a month before to start their new life together. Kagome giggled. She could just imagine little monks and tajiyas running around the hut.
Sighing, she realized that Inuyasha had been gone longer than usual.
“Well I could do with a little walk.”
Strolling out into the night air, her feet automatically took her towards Inuyasha's forest. She smiled, reminiscing on the words Inuyasha had shared with her after the battle.
“Kagome, I love you. I want you to stay. Please stay. I want to…spend my life with you.”
She could remember how her heart fluttered at the thought. She knew that if she crossed the well this time, she wouldn't be able to come back. So, all she could do was nod, knowing that she was giving up her family for the love of the most stubborn, possessive, and wonderful hanyou before her.
She became aware of her surroundings when the forest began to get thicker, the branches tearing into her skin. Voices ahead caused her to slow down, and when she realized who they belong to, she stopped.
“Inuyasha, my love, how can you betray me again?”
“I'm sorry Kikyo, but I want to be with Kagome. She loves me for me.”
“Inuyasha, you loved me first. My reincarnation does not compare to me, you know that.”
“But…”
His voice was hushed by a cold finger placed gingerly over his lips. Kikyo held Inuyasha close to her, and looked up with pleading dead blue eyes at him.
“My reincarnation is really me, Inuyasha. That's what you see in her. If you kill her and return me my soul, I will be complete. Then we can wish on the Jewel for my life. You could have both me and my reincarnation and I can have you. Say you will do this.”
He looked down into her eyes. Kagome's shoulders slumped as she saw the defeat and resolve in his eyes. And her heart…her heart broke at his next word.
“Yes.”
She couldn't take it anymore and ran; ran deeper into the forest than she meant to go. She ran until a root, sticking out awkwardly, tripped her.
End of Flashback
That is where she found herself. She lay there shivering, unable to get up, move, or even think anymore. The rain and lightening drifted away, letting the crescent moon shine down on her. She felt her soul retreating into her body, a numb feeling taking over. She allowed her eyes to close, reveling in the darkness behind her eyelids.
Then she heard movement in the branches right above her head, but she couldn't move. She was numb and her awareness of the things around her was drifting away as she slowly receded into the safe haven of her mind. The last coherent thought was of the shadowed figure she could see above her, outlined in a ring of dimmed moonlight through her eyelids and a grotesque, snake like voice.
“This young morsssel will fit right in with the resssst of my collectttion.”
