The Sweet Disaster
It has been one year since the day. Rikimaru has been with Souta often, due to his mistress's command. He soon found out about how Kikyo treats the young boy. Rikimaru had taken it upon himself to help his mistress; by making her worry less since he was with Souta. Kaede and Kuwabara were still doing their duties around the castle. Kagome on the other hand was now excelling in everything she did. Her emotions were still innocent and pure and she still protected Souta from Kikyo.
"My dear Kagome, it's your sweet sixteen." Lord Higurashi smiled proudly at his daughter. "This will be a glorious day." He was in Kagome's room as Kaede and her mother did her hair and make-up. Her kimono was black with a red obi and red dragon on it. It had a slit in the front to allow running movement. Souta came in with her black slippers and gave them to his sister. Kagome put them on and smiled. Her hair was up in flare bun held up by Chinese sticks. In Kagome's hair was on hair red wrap that hung over her left shoulder. ( HAA: You know when a chunk of her hair is tightly wrapped with string, ya that.!)
"Dear, don't embarrass her!" Lady Mika spoke as she put a white rose with lavender tips behind her daughter's ear. Kaede had finished putting the freesia in her hair and smiled.
"You look beautiful Kagome-sama." Kagome's retainer said.
"Thanks!" Kagome smiled as Rikimaru jumped onto her shoulder and purred as he rubbed his head against her cheek. Kuwabara came in and bowed to them.
"Sorry to intrude, but I have news about some of the guests." Lord Higurashi nodded to the servant. "The Demon Exterminators will be late due to they have been called to an extermination. Also the Demon Lords and Ladies of the 4 lands will be late also due to matters that they would not reveal."
"Arigato Kuwabara, please escort Souta to the table." Kuwabara nodded. Souta smiled and hugged his sister before running off to Kuwabara. "Your mother and I are very proud of you and Souta. Don't forget we will always love you." Kagome nodded and smiled at Kaede as she followed them out. Kagome then turned to her vanity and stared at her reflection. Her vision was engulfed with black slightly as she stumbled a bit and held herself up with the chair.
"Rikimaru," The ice wind fox perked up at his mistress's call. Kagome pulled out a small bag she had packed since this morning because of a vibe she had. She put it on the balcony then retrieved her katana and bow. She tied them both to the outside of her bag. "Take this to the stables." The Kitsune didn't understand why, but did so anyway. She grabbed her tessen and strapped it to her thigh, high enough so no one could see. Kagome looked at the sky and silently hoped her feelings were incorrect.
~~~
"Presenting her majesty…Lady Kagome," The announcer said. Everyone clapped as he continued. "Happy Sixteenth Birthday Lady Kagome!" Kagome bowed carefully for Rikimaru was upon her shoulder. Souta whistled from where he was standing, which was between Kaede and Kuwabara. Kagome made her way to her mother and father and looked around.
"Father, mother…where is Kikyo?" She already didn't like it. The foreboding emotion increased as Kikyo laughed from the other side of the room. Kagome turned along with everyone else toward her elder sister.
"Happy Birthday dear sister," Kikyo said sarcastically. Kagome glared at her sister. Rikimaru growled from her shoulder, his fur bristling in anger.
"Now, now Princesses mustn't argue in front of the guest." The man next to Kikyo spoke. He was covered in a baboon pelt and it only showed his mouth.
"Who are you?" Lady Mika demanded.
"I, milady, am Naraku, the demon that will bring your downfall." Everyone gasped and went into a panic. Flames appeared around the castle. Lord Higurashi and Lady Mika raced to Souta and tried to get him and Kaede out to the gardens. Kuwabara followed them watching their back if Naraku or Kikyo came after them. They got to the fountain when the garden caught fire too.
"RIKIMARU!" They heard Kagome yelled from inside the castle. A large Kitsune flew over the flame toward the small group in the gardens. Kaede put Souta on top of Rikimaru.
"You'll be faster with only one of us," Kaede said. Rikimaru nodded and looked at the King and Queen they were crying for Souta.
"Take him and go to an ally, do not any of the central regions!" Lord Higurashi said commandingly. Rikimaru nodded and took off quickly into the night sky. Lady Mika started to chant silently as the flames roared closer.
"My lady?" Kaede whispered as she and Kuwabara started to glow.
"Find help, Kuwabara. Kaede lay low, you will be needed later." Lady Mika spoke as they started to disappear.
"LADY MIKA, LORD HIGURASHI!" Kaede shouted as they vanished from the castle gardens. Laughter could be heard as Kikyo and Naraku came out.
"Kikyo, why?" Lady Mika asked.
"That son of a whore and bitch of a sister stole the spotlight from me. I will never allow them to take the throne. Only my children and I will rule." Kikyo yelled at them as she watched the flames burn her parents.
Unknown to them or Naraku, Kagome got up from faking unconsciousness. She ran toward the staircase grabbing her fallen tessen on the way. Dashing to her mother's room and she grabbed her mother's jewelry box then her father's insignia medallion. She quickly ran out the front of the castle, sensing Naraku and her sister in the back gardens. She ran to the stables and packed the things in the saddle bags. She put them on a black stallion demon. The horse was her friend just as Rikimaru. She mounded the horse quickly and raced out of the kingdom.
Although Kagome did all this, she was ignoring a wound that was on her back. Kikyo had shot her with a miko ki blast. Since Kagome was a pure miko and Kikyo was now a dark miko, it wounded her greatly. Am I the only one left? Tears streamed down Kagome's face. I will avenge you all…once I have grown stronger. I swear it, Kikyo will pay for her treason.
Lady Shiori woke up in a cold sweat from her nap in the carriage. "Kurama! Kurama!" She called urgently forgetting where she was for the moment. Youko Kurama (I will refer to him as Kurama) looked at his mother and raised an eyebrow.
"What is it mother?" He asked calmly. He didn't like her pale complexion though.
"Turn the carriage around…"
"But mother Kagome's party…"
"Kurama, you go on…but I have an odd feeling something is wrong. Turn the carriage around." Shiori said. Youko nodded and stopped the carriage.
"I'll be back soon mother." Youko said as he got out of the carriage and raced toward Lord Higurashi's domain.
Lord Raizen was racing to the domain with his son Yusuke. His reasoning was different. He had felt a powerful evil there and had sent Atsuko back to the castle. Yusuke was worried also and demanded to come along. His best friend might be hurt. He hoped nothing bad happened to Kagome or Souta.
Sesshomaru was flying toward the same domain. He had felt a tug at the end of his senses. It was a familiar tug that would only come from the medallion he gave Kagome. Once close enough he smelt the smoldering of flesh and fumes of fire near the Higurashi castle, this was not good.
Hiei looked on with wide eyes as the last of the flames died down. He held Yukina in his arms as she cried for the death of Kagome, Souta, and their parents. Kikyo was off to the side with a tear stained face. Hiei immediately put on his stoic expression as the others soon arrived. His mother walked to Lord Raizen, who growled in anger. Youko stared at the burnt castle with wide, sad eyes. Yusuke knelt down and punched the ground as his tears fell to the ground. Sesshomaru looked on with an emotionless, blank face. If you looked hard enough you could see that his eyes held sorrow.
"No one…no one else survived?" Youko asked Kikyo slowly. Kikyo shook her head miserably.
"They're all gone…" Yusuke whimpered in sadness. "She was trained well enough…she could of gotten out!" He shouted.
"Raizen…I think the lords should meet to knight Kikyo the new queen." Lady Hina wiped her tears away. Raizen nodded slowly. Hina turned to look at her daughter and son.
"NO!" Yukina shouted as she cried. "She can't be dead!" Hiei knelt down as Yukina weight was now slacked against him. "Kagome, you can't be dead. You can't be!" Yukina was now hysterically crying and whimpering.
Sesshomaru covered his nose as he started to walk through the burnt area. Something does not adequate in Kikyo's assumption. Sesshomaru drew his sword, Tokijin, and poked through the ashes of where Kagome's room would have been. He saw a body in the room, but didn't dare think it was Kagome's. As I thought… He sheathed his sword and went back to the other lords. He glanced at Lady Hina and Lady Yukina.
"Lady Hina, take Ah-Un back to your castle. It will be much faster than on foot." Sesshomaru said. He needed to talk to Kurama alone. Lady Hina nodded and went to gather Ah-Un. Hiei lifted his sister into his arms and raced after his mother. Lord Raizen and Yusuke said they had to go back to Lady Atsuko and left soon afterwards.
"I suggest you head to the castle bordering the other central regions Lady Kikyo." Youko said as he and Sesshomaru started to walk off. Kikyo wiped her tears away as the two lords were out of hearing range. She started to laugh to herself, feeling proud of herself and of what she has done.
"What is it Sesshomaru?" Youko asked as they left the Higurashi domain.
"As I inspected the damage, I did not find the ice wind fox, or my medallion." Sesshomaru answered. Youko raised an eyebrow.
"Do you suppose she is still alive?"
"Maybe, that or the perpetrator who has done this took them both." Sesshomaru suggested.
"Perhaps I should return to my own lands, Rikimaru would have returned there if he is still alive." Youko spoke calmly.
"I will inform the demon exterminators." Sesshomaru nodded to Youko before heading toward his own lands. Youko sighed and quickly raced off toward his own lands.
~~~
Rikimaru flew over the deadly plants and landed in the `safe' gardens of the Northern Lands. The kitsune lied down and allowed Souta to snuggle up to his stomach. "Rikimaru, she must be alive right?" Souta cried. "I knew Kikyo was mean, but not this mean."
"Oh…what do we have here?" A woman's voice asked. Souta looked up to see Lady Shiori. "Souta? Rikimaru?"
"Lady Shiori!" Souta jumped up and ran to Lady Shiori crying. He hugged her waist and cried into her stomach.
"Souta, what's wrong?" Shiori tried to calm the boy but it didn't help. The now small Rikimaru jumped onto her shoulder as she lifted up the human boy and went into the castle. When Kurama comes back, then we will get answers.
A few hours later, Youko came running into the castle. He immediately stopped when he saw Souta there with Rikimaru. Sesshomaru was right.
"Souta, Kurama is here." Shiori woke up the prince. He opened his eyes and looked at Youko. Rikimaru barked happily and ran over to Youko with Souta. "What happened?" Shiori asked quietly.
"The castle was burnt down." Shiori gasped. "Kikyo said that everyone died."
"THAT'S A LIE!" Souta shouted. Rikimaru was also growling in anger. "She's the one who started to fire. Mom and Dad tried to save Kuwabara, Kaede, and me through the gardens but we got trapped."
"Where was Kagome?" Youko asked.
"In the ballroom with Kikyo and a demon named Naraku." Souta said as he looked up at Youko. "Kagome sent Rikimaru through the flames to get me out of there. I heard Kaede scream…I think Mama sent them to different lands."
"Kagome?" Shiori questioned.
"I don't know, I didn't see her…" Souta said quietly. Shiori and Youko looked at each other sadly.
"I send word to the other lords in the morning. Souta, I want you to stay here for now." Youko said. "Let's rest for tonight."
"Arigato Youko, Lady Shiori…" Souta bowed.
"It's quite alright dear, follow me now." Lady Shiori said as she headed upstairs. Youko's ears twitched in anger. She dare lie to the Taiyoukai of the Lands. Kikyo will be punished severely.
~~~
Late that night, a black stallion trotted into a village just inside the Southern Lands. A young man in black and purple robes raised an eyebrow as he watched from his guard post at the main house. "What's this?" The man asked no one in particular as the horse trotted up to him. The man saw a young woman on the horse. She was breathing heavily and blood was dripping from her arm. "Seiji-san!" The man called as he raced to the girl and carefully took her off the horse.
"What is it Miroku-sama?" The village elder came outside yawning slightly.
"Get me medicinal herbs, rags, and water. This young woman has been injured." Miroku demanded as he carried the girl into his room. He quickly stripped the young woman and looked at her large wound on her back. A blast of some kind…He thought as the things he asked for arrived. The aura feels as though a pure spirit is purifying a dark one. He also took note of the medallion around her neck. The Western Lands?
Soon the young woman was bandaged and dressed in yukata from the village healer. Miroku sat up against the wall of the room looking at the raven haired woman. She must have been in a fight with a powerful opponent. She herself has the aura of a miko, but for some reason it is low and hidden in a black haze. I wonder who she is.
The next morning the young woman stirred and looked around. Where am I? She inquired as she sat up slowly, mindfully of the pain in her back. Nihalo must have brought me here. She stood up slowly and walked out onto the small deck. There she saw a young man trying to tame her stallion.
"Uh…please be good, your mistress is alright." He said nervously.
"Nihalo, behave." The girl called from the deck. The horse immediately calmed down. The man turned to the girl.
"Ah…hello my name is Miroku." He said and suddenly knelt down before her. "May I ask what your beautiful name is?"
"Ka-…Kagome..."
"A wonderful named, your mother must have respected the princess in the central lands." Miroku said.
"Hai she did…" Kagome bite her lip slightly.
"Would you perhaps…bare my child?" A loud thud was heard as Miroku was slammed into the ground with a red hand print on his cheek.
"YOU PERVERT!" She yelled at him.
"You wouldn't believe how much I hear that…" Miroku laughed as Kagome grabbed her Tessen and went to Nihalo. "May I ask where are you going?"
"I have to get help. One of the central region's family and court has been murdered. I intend to take revenge." Kagome said sternly.
"Perhaps, I could be of service to you. Which family has been murdered?" Miroku asked as he stood dusting off his robes.
"The Higurashi Family," Miroku's eyes widened. "By their own eldest daughter…"
"What can I do for you?" He asked as she got on her horse.
"If you wish to help, find the demon exterminators Sango or her brother Kohaku. Tell them that Kagome send this word. Also tell her that one of the Taiyoukai will have the midget. She'll know what you mean." Kagome turned Nihalo toward south. "If you do not do this in three days time, don't bother searching for her. Instead head for one of the Taiyoukai."
"What if they do not believe me?" Miroku asked. Kagome pulled out a medallion from her pocket and threw it at Miroku. He caught it and looked at the insignia.
"Tell no one of this." With that Kagome raced off into the South. Miroku stared at the insignia. Could that have been…Princess Kagome?!
~~~
Kagome tightened the cloaked around her body as she slid off Nihalo. She tied the katana to her waist and put the bow on her back. She stuffed the tessen into her bag and looked at Nihalo who whined.
"Nihalo, I need you to keep an eye on things back in the central lands. If something does happen, go to my cousin alright?" Kagome asked. The horse nodded and turned and ran off. "Good…" She shouldered her bag and continued her way on foot.
A few hours later Kagome stumbled upon a hot spring in the middle of the woods. She stared at it, as if it was tempting her. Sighing in defeated and put her stuff down. Slipping out of the yukata she still had from Miroku she tossed it somewhere into the woods. She kept her medallion on as she put her stuff together. Kagome sighed as she slipped into the hot water. Her muscles relaxed instantly making her drowsy. Kagome's eyes were filled the images of flames and screams of burning people. She snapped up and rubbed her eyes. Kagome sat up and pulled out the freesias in her hair. She smiled sadly as she watched them float around in the water. She had already put the white rose with lavender tip into her bag. It was the last thing she had of home.
"I need to get stronger…" She whispered to herself as she stood up and waded into deeper waters. She began to wash herself, unknown to the pair of ruby eyes watching her. The eyes scanned her back. Her ivory skin was tainted with white bandages that spread across most of her back. The person groaned as they stumbled out of the bush. Kagome turned around in time to see the person fall to the ground in pain. She squeaked and rushed over to her bag. Quickly drying off, she got dressed and wrapped her cloak around her. She pulled up the hood and knelt down by the man. He held his side and tried to stand up. "You shouldn't stand," She murmured to the man.
"I'll do as I please ningen…" He resisted the urge to groan as he fell back down. Kagome glared at him and pulled out some of her clothing and put it on the ground. She pushed him down harshly so his head lied on her clothing. "Woman what are you doing?" He hissed.
"I am a healer of sorts." She whispered into the wind. Being a demon, he still heard. He leaned his head toward her body and took in her scent. Vanilla…and freesia…? He thought. Before he fell asleep he saw a light blue glow coming from her hand.
Kagome looked at the man and smiled. It has been a year and 3 days Hiei. I'm glad you didn't recognize me. She removed her hand from his side and examined it. That healed better than I expected. She sighed and looked around. She placed a barrier around the hot springs and a few meters away from it. She walked to her bag and grabbed the bow and quiver of arrows. She glanced at Hiei as she went out to get some food for him.
~~~
Hiei opened his eyes to the smell of cooked meat. He looked to his left and saw a clean green leaf next to him with cooked rabbit meat on it. He looked up pass the small fire that was lit to the woman in the cloak that was washing her hands. He narrowed his eyes as he caught a glint of the medallion hanging around her neck. His eyes seemed to bleed red as he growled at her.
Kagome looked up, only to have Hiei grab her throat and pushed her against a rock. She cried out as the rock dug into her back. "Where did you get this?" She heard him growl. Kagome whimpered at the pressure against her neck. "Are you the one who set the Higurashi Castle on fire?" He asked harshly.
"I would never do that…" She lashed out her leg kicking him in the jaw sufficiently sending him back. "To Souta or that family," Kagome said as she stood up straight.
"Then how do you have the medallion of the Western Lands?" Hiei growled as he jumped at the woman. She stood still as she watched Hiei. Before he struck her, wind gusts wafted. Kagome's hood was blown back as cherry blossoms flew in between them. Luckily, Hiei stopped in front of Kagome. "You're alive," He breathed. Kagome smiled at Hiei slightly. "How?" He asked the red disappeared from his eyes leaving only his ruby eyes. Kagome shrugged slightly as she fell against his frame. Hiei wrapped his arms around Kagome and looked down at her. She was pale compared to earlier. Lifting her up into his arms, he grabbed her things and raced towards the Southern Lands' main castle.
