Chapter 2

Inuyasha was getting worried. Sesshoumaru hadn't come back yet and he was afraid that he might have gone after Kagome. He was about to go find Sesshoumaru when he heard footsteps coming towards them.

Sesshoumaru emerged from the forest with Kouga walking beside him.

Kouga was talking to him about something. Whatever it was Inuyasha could tell Sesshoumaru wasn't very happy.

"I have been looking forward to mating her for over a year. Since the first time I saw her in fact." Kouga went on about someone, Inuyasha couldn't tell who.

Sesshoumaru abruptly stopped walking. He summoned his youki whip and used it to knock Kouga flat on his back. The whip vanished, and Sesshoumaru grabbed Kouga around his neck and lifted him so he was eye level. "If you do not leave now I can guarantee that within two hours you entire tribe and den will be demolished." Sesshoumaru's hand began to glow green and poison burned Kouga's throat, "Are we clear?"

Kouga nodded.

Sesshoumaru dropped him and glared at the wolf. As fast as Kouga could, he ran.

Inuyasha smirked it was nice to see him leave in fear. "It's about time he catches a clue."

Sesshoumaru glared daggers at his brother, but said nothing. He walked to the tree that Rin laid napping under and kneeled next to her. "Rin."

Her eyes popped open and she smiled at him. "Yes, Lord Sesshoumaru?"

"You and Jaken will be returning to the palace on Ah-Uh. You are leaving now."

"Okay Lord Sesshoumaru."

Sesshoumaru kicked Jaken and he woke up, "Milord! I hadn't realized you returned."

"Are you questioning me?"

Jaken started groveling, "No of course not my Lord!" Jaken and Rin climbed on to Ah-Uh and took flight.

Sesshoumaru watched them go. Though he didn't show it, he was in turmoil. He didn't understand Kagome's reaction to what he said or why he joined their fight against Naraku. Sesshoumaru started to walk away.

"Are you leaving too?"

"No, I need to relieve some tension. I may be gone for a few days." He turned his head and looked at them from the corner of his eye, "If you follow me I will not be responsible for your deaths." He summoned his youki cloud and left.

Inuyasha looked at his remaining companions, "What now?"

Miroku shook his head, "We can't go anywhere until Kagome comes back. Lord Sesshoumaru could find us easily, but without Kagome we can't see the jewels shards." He sat down, "We will have to wait."

Before stepping into her house Kagome calmed herself down. She knew it was pointless though, as soon as her mother saw her she'd ask what happened. Then, Kagome would start crying again.

Kagome pushed her front door open and stepped inside. "Mom I'm home." She was greeted with silence. With a frown she made her way to the kitchen. There was a note on the counter. She picked it up and read it.

The note fluttered to the floor softly, Kagome ran from the kitchen to the living room. She picked up the phone and dialed her mom's cell phone number.

It rang a few times then, "Hello?"

"Mom! What happened? Is he okay?"

"Calm down sweetie. I just talked to the doctor and Souta will be fine."

"What happened?"

"He was playing with his soccer ball near the road and the ball went into the street. He chased after it and was hit by a car."

Tears fell from Kagome's eyes again, "Is he injured?"

"Souta broke his arm and has a concussion. He's a little scraped up, but he's talking and eating."

"Is he coming home tonight?"

"No, the doctors want to watch over him. He'll be home tomorrow. Do you want me to come home tonight?"

"Mom, I'd rather you stay with Souta, besides I'll still be here tomorrow."

"Alright I will see you tomorrow then. Love you honey."

"I love you too mom. Bye." Kagome hung up and sighed. "This is just what I needed."

She walked up stairs to her room. After throwing her stuff into a corner she fell onto her bed and groaned. "Today has not been my day."

Warm blood dripped from his claws. Bringing his clawed hand to his face he licked the blood from his claws.

Sesshoumaru knew he would have to go back soon. He would confront her about what happened with Kouga and what she said. Her behavior had puzzled him.

With a deep breath the red faded from his eyes. Sesshoumaru looked down at the youkai what crossed his path. He had resembled the wolf and ended up being nothing more than melted flesh.

He sneered at his loss of control. The wolf's attitude pissed him off more than Sesshoumaru was even aware. Kouga's claim to Kagome was unfounded. 'She is already taken.'

This thought struck him as odd. He had never made a claim to her. Though now that Sesshoumaru thought about it, a claim wasn't too bad of an idea. A claim would further ensure her safety as potential Lady of the West.

'But she's human,' a voice reminded.

'Yes, but something is off about her. Her blood doesn't taste human; neither does her scent smell like that of a human's.' Sesshoumaru quieted his thoughts and begun the long walk back to Inuyasha's Forest.

Kagome was starting to watch 'The Last Samurai' when the door bell rang. She sighed in frustration and walked to the door. When Kagome opened the door her breath caught in her throat.

The man standing at her door looked like Sesshoumaru. The only differences were his eyes, hair, and lack of facial markings. His hair was mostly silver, but his bangs were black. The golden eyes of a Taiyoukai were replaced with a silvery-blue.

Kagome shook her head, "Sorry about that you remind me of a friend of mine. Can I help you with anything?"

He smiled, "If you are Kagome Higurashi then yes."

"I am Kagome."

"I wish to speak with you and this may seem odd, but may I come in?"

"I don't know..."

"How about this, if I guess the name of the friend of yours I look like you let me in."

Kagome smiled, "Okay." There was no way he would guess right.

"I would have to guess none other than Lord Sesshoumaru."

Her eyes went wide, "How did you guess that?"

"I have been told many times that I resemble the Western Lord. Now will you permit me to enter?"

Kagome nodded and stepped to the side, "How do you know about Sesshoumaru?"

He smiled softly, "I knew his father Inutaisho. I saw Sesshoumaru just after he became Lord. Though I doubt he knows who I am, I left Japan after he gained the title of Western Lord."

"Then you came through the well?"

He chuckled, "No, I have lived all these years and am a member of a secret society in this time. Though not in this world."

Having completely ignored the last comment Kagome said, "How old are you?"

"Older than I would like to admit Kagome."

Still a little lost she said, "Why are you here?"

"I have stayed out of your life long enough Kagome. You discovered the secret of the well and continue to use it of your own free will. Now after sixteen years I will return to you your birthright."

"What do you mean?"

"I am your father Kagome. I made the decision to give you the chance to live a normal human life. You were given to this family, so you could grow up happy."

"Do they know?"

"Know what?"

"That I'm not really a part of their family."

"No, they truly believe you belong here. To them you are still a daughter, granddaughter, and sister. Your mother died giving birth to your brother, you were barely a year old."

She looked at him in wonder, "Brother?"

He shook his head, "He died five years ago. He was killed by a youkai that has hunted my family for generations. You and I are the last."

Kagome was silent as she tried to digest this startling information, then she asked, "You said birthright, what is my birthright?"

"You are a youkai, Inu to be exact. I will return to you the strength and powers you were born with." He sat down next to her on the couch, "You will get them back if you want them, I will not force you. This is your choice Kagome."

"Say I do want to be a youkai, who will train me?"

"I will, starting tonight if you wish to.”

"But I'm only home around once a week. How long will it take?"

"Training you in your miko power and your natural youkai powers shouldn't take too long. Once you choose a weapon you want to specialize in we will begin training with it. The weapon will take the longest."

"Can you teach me to wield a sword?"

He smiled, "Yes, the sword is challenging, but I believe it is the best choice for you."

Kagome frowned suddenly, "I didn't even ask your name."

"My name is Shima."

"Okay, so where are we going to train?"

"For now, why not outside? We will put up a barrier so no one can see what we are doing. First you should see your true appearance." He led her to her bathroom and she stood in front of the mirror. "Now for your first time to see your true self."

Kagome watched as most of her black hair melted away into brilliant silver. The only black was, like her father, in her bangs. Her blue-grey eyes changed to a deep blue with silver specs near the pupil. The thing that surprised her most was the two midnight blue stripes that ran parallel over her cheeks. 'Just like Sesshoumaru,' she thought.

She now had claws where her nails had been. The last and final thing was a tail draped over her right shoulder. The very tip of her tail was black while the rest was silver.

Kagome ran a hand over her tail, "Wow. This is amazing." She looked up at her father and her eyes went wide.

Shima smiled at his daughter, "I told you I looked like him."

Kagome laughed, "Yeah, this time I actually thought he was here." Her father had dropped his concealing spell and now stood before Kagome with all of his youkai traits showing.

He had a completely black tail over his left shoulder. His facial stripes were black and looked just like Sesshoumaru's. Shima's hair was the same as it had been before. "Kagome the first thing I will teach you is how to hide your youkai traits."

"Okay."

"First you need to see yourself as you want to be."

Kagome closed her eyes and concentrated on her human appearance. When she opened them her normal human self was staring back at her. "It worked."

Shima and Kagome prepared to train outside. He used a spell to put up a barrier around the entire shrine so they would be unseen and undisturbed. They walked outside and Kagome could feel the youki surrounding them. The training session began.
