Last Time:
Those in the crowd were shocked at the outcome as well as the confession, but it was at the moment her words finished that the barrier shattered and the group appeared and yet vanished at the same time. The bat demon remained with two of the three animals, but all the rest disappeared. The miko fell forward and a wave of energy escaped her form.

This Time:

“She still hasn’t awoken yet?”

“No Kurama, and I have no idea what to do. That stupid bat isn’t leaving her side either,” Hiei was quite annoyed over that little fact. The tournament had been put on hold due to the tremendous battle they had been witness to. The bat had been grabbed by one of the animals and carried to where Kagome lived.

Hiei and the others all followed and were met by the bloodied forms of Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku, Kohaku, and even Aikou was with them proving that they stopped to find her. In Inuyasha’s arms was Kagome, still bleeding from her injury. None of them knew exactly what had happened, but they knew that her power did something.

They all felt the shift in time as magic took hold and Kuroune was thrown from the field with the three animals. It was a guess that he was taken to her time, but they were right. Sango had led Inuyasha inside and instructed him to set the fully clothed Kagome into the bathtub so she could clean her up and that she would summon Hiei if she needed help.

It had been two weeks since that day and she had yet to awaken. The bat remained at her side constantly though Hiei continued to glare at him. The others remained nearby and waited patiently. It was while the bat moved a strand of hair that she took a deep breath and her black eyes fluttered open. “Kagome, you’re finally awake.”

Everyone flocked to the bed at that announcement and she smiled, “sorry Kuroune, I was tired.”

“Kuroune?” questioned Kurama as he looked at the bat more closely, his eyes shifting to a golden color. It was impossible that this was the same man that was his partner, but he did look almost exactly the same.

The shift in energy had Kagome tensing as it felt unfamiliar but at the same time it had a familiar feeling. Kuroune on the other hand fully tensed up as he turned and eyed the stranger. While it was possible that his partner and long time friend had lived to Kagome’s time, this could not be him. The energy was his, but it was overlapped by another energy.

The shift in his own was noticeable as his eyes darkened in color and his tone was harsh when he spoke, “what have you done to Youko.”

The demand surprised the others, especially Kurama. Kagome figured it out first and her eyes widened in understanding when she realized that this was a misunderstanding. Quickly lifted herself from her bed she grabbed the bat’s arm and pulled him back, “he’s an avatar now Kuroune.”

“Avatar?”

“Are you really Kuroune?” the kitsune asked as he looked the man over. At his nod Kurama found that he needed to sit down. “But how, you died. I was there when you forced me to leave because you knew you were dying.”

A smirk appeared on the bat’s lips as one of his arms wrapped around the miko that was still holding his arm, only this time it was for support to remain standing. “Kagome arrived and saved me; quite funny actually since she blasted the humans with her miko ki.”

“You saved him?” Kurama asked as he turned to the girl that he had known for some time now. “It seems that I owe you my thanks; I truly thought he had perished that day.”

“No thanks needed, I’m glad I saved my aniki,” she responded with a soft giggle as the bat turned to her with a soft look before tackling her and tickling her.

“I’m glad she’s feeling better,” Miroku commented as he smiled at their friend before looking over to his wife who was holding their now four year old daughter.

“How did she grow up so quickly,” Kuwabara asked as he looked at the little girl that was in Sango’s hold. She was only born a few months ago!

Sango looked at her daughter before realizing the meaning behind the question and she had to laugh at that. “Only a few months have passed for you, but for us it has been years of searching and training to end our battle.”

“How?” the one word question came from Hiei as he spoke up for the first time since Kagome had awoken.

Her black eyes moved to him and he was caught with how sad they seemed and yet how much emotion they held. It was strange considering the change in them, but it seemed as though it suited her. “I placed a time barrier around the well so that time passed differently between times. I didn’t want to leave my sons here and never get to know them, but I couldn’t end my quest in the past because it was my duty to protect the jewel. So I placed a barrier in hopes that I would live through the final confrontation with Naraku and return to be with them and you again.”

They were all turned to her, even her friends, no, family from the past. That’s what they were, family; her family. Her brothers: Miroku, Inuyasha, and Kuroune as well as her sister Sango and niece Aikou. Her eyes held an almost ancient look that made her look older than she was and yet at the same time she still held her innocent look. After all they had been through; she was the one that held them all together.

Kagome was one of a kind, a priestess that befriended demons and stood up to what would make even grown men cower in fear. At the tender age of fifteen she stood unafraid of Sesshoumaru as he made attempts on her life; a feat even most demons could not claim they succeeded at. She took a kit as her own when her kind would have usually destroyed the boy. Her power impressed the Mazoku demon, she turned a thief good, and even won the devotion of a powerful forbidden child.

Through it all she hardly changed; though her powers increased and the discovery of purifying humans appeared. To her there were no differences between the species and for that view she truly was great. As they all looked into her eyes they saw what gave her the strength to win and the power to succeed; it was fear. Not fear for herself, but fear for her family and fear for what could happen if she had failed.

In her mind she could not fail or the world would die. She needed to win so that she could save her family and friends; to save those she loved with all her heart. The time barrier was not for herself, but for her family so they wouldn’t worry over her. She truly was powerful to have the ability to shift through times and protect the past while living in her present and hoping for her future.

“Hiei, I missed you,” the miko whispered as she threw herself from Kuroune and into her lover’s arms. He easily caught her and she began nuzzling her face into her neck. “I love you.”

It was said in front of her family and his friends; it was said without thinking, and yet she still was not expecting any response. Surprise came as he crushed her small form to his own and buried his face into her hair as he inhaled her scent, “I love you, too, Koishii.”

A smile lit her face as she pulled away so that she could kiss him fully on the lips. Inuyasha made gagging noises while Miroku and Kurama chuckled and Kuwabara and Sango blushed. Yusuke though, was full out laughing, pure joy lacing his voice. “Maybe we should leave so they can have another little Hiei running around in nine months.”

Kagome broke the kiss her face covered in a blush as Hiei chuckled but held on to her to keep her standing. “And miko?”

“Hai Hiei?” she questioned as she looked up into his crimson eyes.

“You have some explaining to do.”

Here is the end of the story and I hope you all enjoyed. I know this chapter is a little shorter than usual, but this is where I wanted it to end. I might write a sequel but it would be a two maybe three shot to explain what all happened and the reason for the wave of power she gave off.
