A Fool of a Ruler

 

In the shadows of Makai sat a figure hidden in the darkness of his castle, watching through a mirror similar to Kanna's mirror that now resided with the one person he was watching. He had plans for her, he no longer desired her death, because killing him before, just proved she had a strong spirit, one he would enjoy beating into obedience. He would tame her, and in so doing control the shikon-no-tama, as he had wanted to do 500 years ago….

 

~Ningenkai~ Kagome and Sango~ Norm POV

 

Kagome felt a chill up her spine, almost as if someone were watching her, at this very moment. She didn't like it and Sango could tell, she shot her younger sister a look of concern.

“Don't worry Sango, I'm fine. But, I think we should hurry home, I have a bad feeling.”

Sango just nodded in understanding as they walked into the brush so as not to be seen while Kagome grabbed Sango and Kirara and became a blur in the direction of Sunset Shrine.

Two minutes went by and Kagome reached the bottom of the stairs and jumped up, using the wind to aid her tired body. As soon as she touched the top of the stairs she stopped and dropped Sango and Kirara.

“Ow! Hey, Kagome?”

“Blood.” Was all Kagome said before sprinting into the house, determined to save her family if she was on time.

When she went inside, she suddenly wished she wasn't a demon, for the smell of the blood over powered the others, it was so strong she could have just fallen over and emptied her stomach. Fortunately she didn't, she still had to save whoever was still alive, and she could feel two auras, one young and human, the other an evil demon.

`Souta'

With that in mind Kagome rushed up the stairs to her mother's room, Sango and Kirara not far behind.

What Kagome saw made her eyes tint red, her little brother was being held by the throat, and her mother's and jiichan's bodies were ripped apart and spread across the floor, and blood on the walls.

“Demon! Let my brother go!” Kagome charged at the demon and, using her claws, tore the wretched thing in two, catching her whimpering brother before he hit the floor.

“ Mom and Jiichan, the-their de-dead. The demon…” Souta didn't get to explaining any further because Kagome cut him off.

“Shh, I'm here now. I'm just sorry I wasn't here sooner. Shh now, it's okay, I'm here.”

Souta just cried on his older sister's shoulder, while Sango and Kirara inspected the body. When Souta finally fell asleep Sango went over to Kagome, who had come back from putting him on her bed.

“Kagome, I think you need to see something.”

“Hmm? What is it Sango?”

“Look on the demons back.” Kagome, upon hearing the despairing tone in Sango's voice, decided whatever it was she wouldn't like it.

Kagome looked over at the half of the demon that had the torso and her eyes lifted to his back, there, staring right at her, was a spider mark; a sign of one who she knew had died.

“Naraku,” Kagome breathed.

“It can't be. How'd he come back?”

Sango turned to her sister,

“I believe Koenma would know.”

“He'd better.” With that Kagome flipped open her communicator and called for Botan to open a portal to Rekai.

 

~Spirit World (Rekai) ~ Norm POV~

 

When the portal opened, Kagome and Sango stepped into Koenma's office, only after they were in front of his desk, did it close.

“Koenma, someone who should be 500 years dead is alive. How can this be?” asked a verrrrry angry Kagome.

Koenma bit down on his pacifier, knowing if it was his fault in any way, she would hurt him. (Coward that's all I have to say)

“Who are you referring to?” asked a terrified Koenma.

“Naraku,” replied Sango.

“Let me look into the files.”

It took Koenma a half-hour to finally find the file on said half-demon. And to say Koenma was shaking in his boots would be the understatement of the year.

“It says he was re-reincarnated.”

“What! You fool! Why would you do that!” shouted an infuriated Kagome.

“I-it was an a-accident.” Koenma was very afraid now, this was worse than when Hiei threatened him.

Sango was holding Kagome back from literally tearing the prince to pieces, and she was debating wither or not to actually let go. She decided to let the pint-sized ruler keep his life, for now, and merely settled on glaring at him.

“You are a fool of a ruler, Koenma.”

That was all she said as she asked Kirara to fetch Botan so a portal could be opened. (You thought I forgot Kirara didn't you? And Kirara, a cat, fetching! LOL)

Botan opened a portal and allowed the two sisters to go home, clean, grieve, retrieve Shippo from Kurama's place, bath, and sleep, but even going to sleep had tears going down their faces. Another part of their family had been lost, at the fault of Naraku, and the one who brought him back, a fool of a ruler, Koenma.

 

(Shippo was at Kurama's house, you know learning from a fellow kitsune, most of the time. Jiichan is Kagome's grandfather for those who don't read many fan-fics. And I thank all my reviewers, YOU ALL INSPIRED THIS CHAPTER, SO THANK YOU REVIEWERS! And again, I apologize for the chapters being so short, but it's better than some other peoples at least, ne?)
