The Pure Miko

Chapter 13

Silence.

Silence is a very powerful thing. It can cause fear, anticipation, wonder, and suspense. And that is what was happening now. Youko and Sesshomaru held on to Kagome as hard as they both could without the fear of breaking her bones. The silence that surrounded them while waiting for the power of a miko to surround them was almost suffocating. And then Kagome gasped out and sighed. Power exploded from within her tiny body as if an atomic bomb went off. Her power licked across the two demons holding her, but quickly moved out to fill the entire base in a matter of milliseconds.

And then Kagome stopped her power outflow.

No, I can't allow this to happen. Kagome thought. I have worked to hard for myself to be discovered now! What will happen to Inuyasha? What will happen to my son? What will happen to Sesshomaru?

And with those questions, Kagome told herself that it wasn't worth it. She couldn't possibly give away her secret and the secrets of her friends and family. They meant too much to her. She wasn't going to help the demons trying to kill her, her friends, and her family. Because that was what was sure to happen if she exposed her powers to the fullest. She knew that she would never have any peace.

“No,” She whispered.

They both looked at her in surprise. What was she saying `no' for?

“No, I can't” she whispered in conviction.

Understanding dawned in Sesshomaru's eyes. He leaned forward to whisper in her ear, “Let it all out. You can let it all out, Kagome.”

“No, I don't want to anymore. I don't want to leave.”

And then Youko finally understood what she and Sesshomaru were talking about. Kagome wasn't letting out her full powers because she feared what the Spirit world would try to do. She feared what they would try to do to her and all that she cared about. Who knew what someone, rather it be human, demon, or spirit, would do to have Kagome under their control.

He bent down on her other ear and whispered, “Nothing will take you away. We will protect you.”

She sighed and squeezed them to herself even harder.

“Do you promise?” She asked.

“I would never let anything take you away from me.” Both of them whispered in a separate ear.

She smiled. And then her powers exploded out of her as if she was breathing freely with no restraints for the first time. As if she was letting go of all of her problems that she had. As if the weight of the world was no longer on her shoulders.

After six minutes her power receded back into her body. But to Sesshomaru she seemed as if she didn't want to pull back her powers.

This is something to ponder on a rainy day. Sesshomaru thought as he continued to hold the love of his life.

Once all of Kagome's powers were fully encased back in her petite body she stood up with the help of her suitors, one of her hands in one of theirs.

She looked up at them with the biggest smile that she could come up with. “Thank you! You guys are the best!”

“How do you feel?” Sesshomaru asked, concern barely evident in his voice. But Kagome could tell that he was hiding it very well though. He couldn't fool her now, not when she knew him so well.

“I feel better than ever. But I have the worst headache. I think that I should stop being possessed, kidnapped, and or power striped for a while. I think that I deserve a break for at least a month. Don't you think so Sesshomaru?” Kagome joked at him.

When he did not reply she simply laughed whole heartily at him. “You need to lighten up a little, Sesshomaru.”

“This Sesshomaru needs to do no such thing.”

“Of course you do. Because without me around you just turn into a jerk.”

She giggled at him and ran away in a very playful manner. Youko smiled and ran to follow her. She was being so playful right now considering the circumstances of her situation. Not many could act as she is right now and pull it off. Most people in her situation would be crying on the floor with no hope for the future. But not Kagome. She knew the dangers to herself, her friends, and her family that were to come. But instead of lying on the floor in her own sorrow of self-pity she remained confident and optimistic.

This woman was truly a wonder to behold. He could see why she was known as the Pure Miko of the legends. She was perfect! She is kind and caring, sweet and charming. And yet, she is also very open-minded about everything. Her dating his counter-part was proof enough of that. It took a lot of guts from a miko to even get close to a demon with no worries about her own safety and that of her friends. But here we were with her kissing him when she saw him in the morning and when she left to go to work. But she still did it with a fire about her that rivaled even Hiei. She is a strong soul with the temper to back it up.

She was the most amazing creature that he had ever met.

He then sighed softly to himself. He knew that he had fallen for her as surely as his other half had. And then he also knew that the two dog demons were smitten with her as well. Sesshomaru was definitely not going to let her go without a fight to the death. Youko was sure that he would not stand down to anyone, besides direct orders from the miko. But he knew that she wouldn't do that. She cared for him a little bit, she just didn't know how to react. After all, she was dating his counter part at the moment. And he of all people knew that she felt very strongly for him. He could smell it on her.

But maybe she would be willing to share with the three of them. Would she be able to handle the idea of a three some? Youko knew that some demons would share a female if all three would agree with it. Most males would not be willing to do so due to the fact that they are too possessive. But he knew that Kagome would not choose any of them if she had to choose between her various suitors. She was just to kind and kind-hearted for that. But if she would be willing to share then that would save a lot of her suitors' bloody wounds. He would have to talk to Sesshomaru about the possibility. If he would agree, then Kagome would be more inclined to agree upon having three mates.

Well, two actually. He would return to his other form later on. Nothing in this world would take him out of this body that he inhabited; but he didn't really mind all that much now.

He was starting to gain some control. His powers were becoming increasingly mingled with Shuiichi. Soon, he would be able to start talking to him threw mental links if he so wished. That way he might be able to be let out once in a while without having to forcibly take over the body like he did a few hours ago.

And believe it or not, he didn't want to force his way out. He finally admitted to himself a long time ago that he was stupid in his youth. He had learned a lot from this life, lessons that only a person like Minamino could unknowingly teach. He had learned the true value of friendship, trust, respect, and love. The way that Shuiichi felt about Kagome was mind-boggling! He could still feel it even now. It was like a constant feeling in the back of his mind where his human half dwelled. He could not control his own body anymore, but his worry for his chosen female was first and foremost at the top of this ever thought. He didn't seem to mind the fact that he had taken over.

In fact, he seemed rather glad that he was now present. He wanted to make sure that Kagome was well taken care of, and who better than the notorious Youko Kurama to do that.

But that was what baffled the ex-demon thief. Why would someone like Shuiichi want him taking care of his girlfriend? Not that he would ever consider hurting her, ever. He was in love with her just like him. But Shuiichi didn't know that did he?

Kagome giggled as she ran away. Gosh, did she feel much better! It felt like she was floating on air. She skipped to the elevator doors of Sesshomaru's tower and pressed the button for up. She turned around to see that Sesshomaru was steadily making his way toward her, seemingly lost to his thoughts. Youko was standing in the spot that she had left him with the most peculiar look on his face, like he was trying to solve a riddle that evaded him.

“Well, are you coming?” She shouted to them. “I want to go check on my family to make sure that they are okay!”

“Continue with your plans, Kagome. This Sesshomaru will remain here to address the public. I believe that you caused the humans to worry for their lives.”

Youko came out of his thoughts and nodded in agreement. It appeared that he was going to stay here with his team once they returned to the main base. Hiei would be very useful to have around if a few of the humans remained to be unconvinced of the cover-up.

Kagome shrugged her shoulders. She stepped onto the elevator that was now waiting for her and left.

A few minutes later she was driving down the streets to reach the place that she once called home. And it would always remain her home in a way. After all it was the place that she grew up in and the place that changed her entire life. If they had not owned that shrine then she would never have known who she really was. She would have never met Inuyasha or Shippo. She would have never have met Sango, Miroku, Kouga, Rin, or even Sesshomaru. And the thought of never knowing them terrified her! She cherished the memories she had of her older sister, a perverted monk, and even the sweet ward of the west. So no matter where she moved, she would always think of the Sunset shrine as her home. It was the place that started it all.

In a matter of thirty minutes of traffic, Kagome made it to the other side of Tokyo where the shrine of her family rested upon the earth. She parked her car at the bottom of the steps and began running up them, but not before locking her precious Mustang mind you. And with practiced ease she polished off all of the five hundred steps with out breaking a sweat. She knocked on the front door to the house before automatically letting herself in.

“Mom! Souta!” She called out.

There was no answer. She moved to the kitchen and saw a dinner cooking on the stove with her mother absent from her regular spot next to it.

“Mom!” Kagome yelled again.

She walked into the living room to see that her little brother was not playing video games at the TV even though the game was showing the main menu of a game.

“Souta! Mother! Can you hear me?” She shouted again. She frantically looked around the room with no luck. She bounded up the stairs to see if they were in their rooms. She raced into the hall and into her brother's room. And that was when she felt it. A demon had once been here. A low-level demon with little power, or a upper-level demon that would mask his power. But something about this energy signature was familiar. And then a second later it clicked. This energy was of the demon trying to capture her!

“MOM! SOUTA!” She screamed out in panic. She flew out of the room as if the devil himself was on her heels. She banged into her mother's room and found it as empty as she found her brothers'. And the same energy was there as well. Her mother must have gone to her room for a minute when she just started to prepare dinner. She exited the room and walked back into the hallway.

A noise then drew her attention to the last door on the right. Her old room. She rushed to it and pushed it open, her powers were coming to the surface now in preparation of anything that might be behind that door.

Inside of the room light streamed into the room from an open window with the curtains pulled back. In the center of the room were her mother and younger brother on the floor, arms and hands bound and their mouths gagged.

“Mom! Souta!” Kagome rushed to their sides. She removed their restraints and removed the gag that was placed in their mouths. They both grabbed onto her for dear life as soon as they were set free. A sob escaped her brother's throat as he pressed himself into the side of his older sister.

“Kagome,” He whispered out in relief.

“Shh, I'm here now. You're going to be okay now. I'm here.” Her mother finally pulled back, letting her son take the comfort that he desperately needed from his older sister, his hero.

Kagome rocked him in her embrace while rubbing soothing circles on his back. He finally calmed down and slowly pulled away from her, but he kept himself next to her so that he could lean on her as if he needed the reassurance that she was really there in the flesh.

“What happened?” Kagome finally asked.

“A man, I think a demon, came into the house and tied us up in here. We tried to fight, but he was not even fazed by out struggles.” Her mom explained. “He said that this was a warning to you, Kagome. He said that next time he would take something more and he wouldn't give it back.”

“Sis, he left a note. I think that he left it for you. It's on the window seal.”

Kagome slowly detached herself from her brother and picked up the almost small note on the window seal. It was in a plain white envelope with her name written on it in an elegant script.

“Who is he, Kagome? What does he want?” Souta asked as she opened the envelope to read the note within.

Kagome didn't answer. Her eyes bore into the sheet of paper in front of her. Her hand was clenched around it so tightly that it was crumpling in her grasp.

Kagome read the letter in front of her that started out pissing her off and ending in the same result. She read:

My Dearest Love,

Why do you continue to deny my love? Together we could be so much more. You can not keep denying me. We are meant to be together. You will realize this fact soon enough. However, until you do I will have to continue to convince you. As you have all ready noticed, I have met your family. Your mother and little brother are very interesting people. I can see your mother in you, my love. I see now where you have received your temper. And your little brother really looks up to you. He was waiting for his sister to come protect him, but you didn't now did you? Such a pity that you had to let him down. If you would just let me love you then you would never have to worry about any of your family. They would be treated like royalty. And why shouldn't they? They are the mother and brother of my future queen.

I just hope that you realize that as long as we do not take control there will always be someone there to hurt your family. I did not realize that you did not know this. The next time I see you my love I will ask for an answer from you. If you still do not wise to see the light then I will just have to demonstrate to you what would happen to someone else that you claim to love. But the next time, I might not give them back to you in perfect health. Think carefully my queen.

With Love,
Your Future Mate

After Kagome read the letter, she calmly released her hand, folded it, and placed it in her front pocket. She turned to the last of her family and calmly said, “It is nothing that you two have to worry about now. I'm going to move you two to somewhere safer until I can get all of this cleaned up. Go back your clothes. I'll have a team come in later to get anything that you don't pack.”

Souta opened his mouth to protest, but their mother pulled him out of the room and down the hall. Kagome pulled out her cell phone out of her purse that was now lying on the floor from where she had dropped it to help her family. She picked the purse up and dialed a number as she walked into the kitchen to turn off the dinner that was cooked so much that it was no longer recognizable as food. The foul odor that was coming off of it made her rethink her location so she stepped out side. Her cell phone was now pressed to her ear as she listens to it ring.

“This is Greg.”

“Greg. Get me Sesshomaru, now!” Kagome hissed out. She didn't mean to be mean to Greg, but she was not in the mood at this moment for small talk. A powerful demon had just gotten into her house and had bound and gagged the last two members of the only family that she has left. As far as she was concerned, she was entitled to be pissed off.

Greg must have realized that she was not happy because she heard a peep and then she was hearing Sesshomaru on the other line.

“Kagome? What is it?”

“Sesshomaru, send a team to the shrine this second! I want the entire area investigated from top to bottom! Do you hear me? EVERYTHING! I want to know how the HELL that demon got to my family without us knowing about IT! Second, I want another team to be sent here to gather the rest of the belongings of my family. And then I want demon bodyguards here in ten minutes to escort my family to the quest quarters at the base for emergencies. I want them to be monitored twenty-four seven!”

“It will be done. What happened, Kagome?”

Kagome's lip trembled a little before she answered him. Her eyes starting to become wet with unshed tears. “He was here, Sesshomaru. I found my mom and brother bound and gagged on the floor of my bedroom. Both of their rooms have his energy in them, Sesshomaru. He made sure that he left some tracks. I just know it!”

Sesshomaru didn't answer. There was a pause on the line before he replied. “I just sent out the three teams. Is there anything else?”

“Yeah, he left me a note. I'll be on my way to the office as soon as the teams show up. I'll show it to you as soon as I get in. Higurashi out.”

She hung up the phone. She placed it back in her purse and walked back into the house. She then stood at the bottom of the staircase staring into space, lost in her own thoughts. Exactly ten minutes later she felt the auras of over a dozen demons walking up the shrine steps.

“Mom, Souta, are you ready. I have some friends here to take you to a safe location.”

A knock was heard at the front door.

“Come in.” Kagome called.

“Lady Kagome, is your family ready?” Said a lean, but strong looking demon.

“Just a minute. They should be coming down in a minute.” And then she whispered, “They do not know of the situation. Keep it that way.”

Then, the sound of suitcases coming down the stairs was the only sound in the house as the demons spread out through out the house.
