Her footsteps were barely audible. Only his sensitive ears could pick them up. Youko Kurama looked down from the tree he lay in. His golden eyes carefully watching the girl with raven hair. Her red hakama glided across the grass as she walked, a basket under one arm as she occasionally stopped to pick herbs from the field.

“Miko.” Kurama thought. He caught her scent on the wind and knew that he wouldn't easily forget it. Kurama did wonder, however, how the miko could not sense him.

As if she read his mind, the miko stopped and looked up. She stared in his direction, not sure where exactly he was. Kurama was able to see the unusual color of her eyes; unusual for a ningen at least. Blue. That deep shade of blue that only added to her mystery. And then she smiled.

He wasn't sure if she had seen him in the branches but before he could come down to her, another voice drifted into the field.

“Kagome!” The male voice called.

The miko, Kagome, turned her head in the direction of the voice, “I'm coming, InuYasha!”

Kurama watched her walk away, her hair gently blowing in the breeze. “Kagome,” he said to himself. He could still taste her sweet scent on his tongue.
