Kagome walked in the direction of the village where the voice of InuYasha had come from, thinking about the demon who had been hiding in the tree. She had sensed him there, but was not able to find him among all the branches and leaves. For some reason he didn't worry her, though. “After all,” she thought. “If he wanted to hurt anyone, he could have easily done so.” She shook her head and let her thoughts of the youkai drift off. Besides, there was a much more interesting hanyou waiting for her just a few feet ahead.
“Oi, Kagome, did you pick much?” InuYasha asked from the spot he stood in. His golden eyes watched her walking toward him. His dog ears stood alert on top of his head, pointing in the direction of her footsteps.
“Hai, InuYasha.” Kagome replied as she approached him. “There are a lot of herbs growing in the field this time of year.”
She took his hand in her free one leading him back to the village. InuYasha smiled, holding her smaller hand in his own. They had been traveling together for just over a year, and had finally acknowledged their feelings for one another. For the last three months or so, they had made those feelings physical.
They were both aware that they might not survive the final battle with Naraku, and so they resolved to love each other - physically, emotionally, and mentally - for as long as time would allow.
“Kaede says your clothes are finally dry. Maybe next time you won't run around in the rain in them.”
“I didn't run for very long, InuYasha,” Kagome smiled. “You caught me quick enough. And held me in the rain. Its your fault I was so wet.”
InuYasha stopped walking and turned Kagome to face him. He pressed his free hand to her face, “I'm sorry, Kagome.” He leaned in close to her face. “I couldn't resist you with rain on your lips.”
He caught her lips with his and pulled her in closer, his hand moving from her face to her waist. “Ai shiteru, Kagome.” He said, pulling away.
“Watashi mo ai shiteru, InuYasha,” Kagome whispered. She started pulling him in the direction of the village again. “Come on, InuYasha, let's help Kaede with lunch.”
She could hear InuYasha groan as she shook her head and laughed.
When they got to the village, they walked straight to Kaede's house. The houshi, Miroku, and taijiya, Sango were there helping Kaede with her ofudas. Nearby were the fire neko, Kirara, and the kitsune kit, Shippo playing with the village children.
“Kaede,” Kagome announced walking up to the hut, “we brought herbs for you. Arigato for my clothes.”
“DÅ itashi mashite, Kagome. These herbs will be excellent for medicines.” Kaede replied, investigating the basket Kagome handed to her.
While Kaede rifled through the herbs, Kagome and InuYasha went into the hut. Her clothes were laid out, ready for her. She quickly changed from her miko garments to her school uniform. As she turned around, she noticed InuYasha staring at her. She smiled and pushed against his chest, pushing him back outside, “InuYasha if you help now, I'll let you chase me through the field again tonight.”
InuYasha smiled. Yes, he would chase her. He would even give her a few extra minutes head start.
