A/N: So, before you shoot me, hear me out. I've realized that the reason I have never finished my other stories is because I don't like them. And I understand how much of a pain in the ass it is when an author begins a story and never finishes, but I was so young and my writing really is atrocious and I just discontinued those stories because I really do not like how I have come about writing them. However, I came across this idea the other night before I fell asleep, and I really think it is worth giving a chance. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy and to hear from you as often as possible, because if I find this as unpopular as the others then I'll either delete it, or discontinue it also. It's up to you.

33 HOURS
The First Hour
[..+..]
Insatiable pain. That's the first thing that came to her when she felt herself regain consciousness. That and the smell of dried blood. Her head was pounding so horridly that even blinking caused a wave of pain to wash over her like a tidal wave. She couldn't think, should couldn't move; all she could do was sit there because any form of anything caused her to want to scream out in agony. And she would have, if her mouth had not been gagged. Her eyes remained tightly closed as she tried as hard as humanly possibly not to blink, and she mentally cursed every time she did and every time that brought on another painstaking surge of misery. The ground was cold beneath her and she felt gravel and a bit of a damp roughness beneath her thighs as she slowly moved about - which again caused her pain. The more she moved her legs the more she flinched, for not only was her head searing in pain, but having gravel and stones brush up against gashes that she could feel on her legs was brutal. She mentally berated herself for not being able to get control of the situation and for being so exposed and vulnerable. She had no idea where she was or what had happened to her, and all that she knew was that she had been hit. Severely.
She assumed she was outside for every now and again she could feel the slightest of breezes dance across her midriff and bare neck, brushing her hair out of her face. She could feel the breeze coolly across a scrape on her neck because she could feel the wind brushing the semi-dried blood that had positioned itself partly down her neck.
Her eyes were shut. Her mouth was gagged. Her hands were tied. And she was in pain.
Kagome knew that at some point or another she would have to open her eyes, but she was afraid of what she would see if she did. She was acting like her younger brother Souta whenever he had had been afraid that opening his eyes in the dark would reveal to him a monster that was there to gobble him up. Kagome, a growing woman of eighteen, was not the immature fifteen year old she had been when she first came to the Feudal Era. She had grown a great amount within the three years she had been here collecting jewel shards and battling demons. She had also become more able to deal with pain, considering her usual circumstance of being hurt which sent Inuyasha into a state of furious anger and caused him to pummel whichever demonic creature that had harmed her. But somehow this pain was unlike any other, for she had had headaches before, but this was nothing that Tylenol could fix. She could feel the wind grazing a large and bloody cut on her forehead and she was surer than none that she had a concussion, but this was no time to worry about that. She needed to find out where she was and what happened to everyone she was with. But first, she needed to face her fears and open her eyes.
Taking a deep breath and coaxing herself into relaxation, she twitched her eye slightly behind her eyelid and thus resulting in a rush of pain. She tried to cautiously peek through a closed eyelid but the more she flickered her eyes the more pain she found, so she knew it was going to have to be a “1, 2, 3, go” kind of scenario. So taking a deep breath, she counted in her mind and on three she flung her eyes open and her head pounded wickedly but she refused to close her eyes because she knew she was up against worse things than opening her eyes.
After slowly succumbing to a more mellow feeling of pain, Kagome gazed around her. It was night time and she was tied to a tree while sitting on the cool, partially damp roots mixed with pebbles. It must have lightly rained while Kagome was knocked out because she could see her skirt was moist and slightly sticking to her thighs as she shifted about. Also, among the smell of dried blood that greatly took over her senses, the air smelt of rain and soil. But the smell of what was around her could not overtake the smell of dried blood in her nostrils; it was overwhelming like the scent of a skunk, but fouler. She looked down at her hands and saw that where her wrists had been tied there was a bracelet of blood, proving that she had indeed put up a fight while whoever it was tied her wrists together. She could feel the rope pressed against her abdomen and she flinched in pain after making several movements for the rope had caused her blouse to partly rise and her bare skin had become visible and there was a cut developing the more the rope rubbed against her smooth vanilla skin.
Where am I? She wondered, but as she looked around and tried to fix her gaze on nothing but shadows in the darkness around her she saw nothing. But seeing nothing didn't mean that Kagome's priestess instincts couldn't pick up the evil aura that was surrounding the entire wood in which she sat. It was coating everything and it stunk of an aura so malevolent that it could only have belonged to Naraku.
Thinking of Naraku, Kagome's eyes suddenly lit up with fear. Where was Inuyasha? Where were Sango, Miroku, Kirara, and Shippou? She can't remember the last time she was with them and thinking to hard about what had happened only caused her head to ache. She knew she had to be brave, but the fact that she was being encompassed by loneliness and solitude was unsettling. She wanted to look into the eyes of the Hanyou that has stood at her side for three years, and she wanted the Demon Slayer and Monk there because of their loving grace as friends that have supported Kagome since the beginning. Where were they? Where they alright?
She fought back tears and the idea of her loneliness began to sink in further and further. She knew that the last thing that she could do right now to help her situation was to cry; so cry she did not.
Instead, Kagome sat and looked around, waiting to hear some sort of noise or feel some sort of aura or sense that let her know who was there or where she was. But the vice of Naraku's aura was so thick Kagome could barely breathe.
But the snap of a twig caught Kagome's attention and startled her eyes began to franticly search the dark for some comforting sign of a familiar face.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome had mumbled through the cloth that was currently residing in her mouth. Her mouth was dry, her cheeks ached from the awkward position of the kerchief in it and her entire mouth reeked and tasted of blood.
Kagome heard chuckling; an evil form of laughter arose quietly at first until the figure stood before her and ever so slowly began to walk towards her. Kagome's eyes widened in anger, fear, and loathing as she stared upon the face that was bending down to look her eye to eye. The figure crouched and grabbed Kagome's chin in their hand and began to turn her head from side to side to see the damage that had been done.
“You pathetic fool,” the figure said, “you think of all people to come see you, that I would be Inuyasha?”
Kagome flinched in pain as the finger coarsely held onto her face. But she never took her eyes away from the purple orbs of whose face Kagome would love to have spat in from the closeness of it.
Kagura… Kagome thought spitefully.

MEANWHILE

“Let! Us! OUT OF HERE!”
“Inuyasha! Relax! Pelting yourself at this demonic barrier won't help it go away any sooner!”
“How the hell can you two just sit there?? They have Kagome!”
“Inuyasha!” Sango shouted angrily from her position on the ground beneath the two trees within the barrier Naraku had placed them in. “I am just as worried about Kagome. But Miroku's right! You pounding your fists against the barrier isn't going to make it disappear any faster. Naraku's power is too strong.”
“Too strong? Feh! It's no match for my Tetsusaiga!”
“Oh no, Inuyasha, don't use your Tetsusaiga again, it did nothing the last time,” piped up Shippou who had currently perched himself in Miroku's lap.
“Shut up, Squirt! At least I'm doing something to try to get out of here!”
“What's the point,” Shippou muttered, “my fox magic isn't strong enough to get us out of here.”
Sango sighed and leaned forward resting her arms on her bent knees, “They even took Kirara…”
“Don't worry, Sango,” Miroku said shuffling closer towards her and putting his hand on hers for comfort, “I'm sure Kirara's fine.”
“Oh ya, I'm sure she's just as in a good position as we are…” Inuyasha muttered angrily as he began to pace.
Miroku just sent a glare in Inuyasha's direction and continued trying to comfort Sango. It had been hard for her to handle since they had been trapped within the barrier. Naraku had sent Kohaku to battle them while Naraku ran and hid. Sango couldn't stand to fight her brother, but all he did while under his spell was fight and repel their attacks all the while leading them into Naraku's trap where he had planned to kidnap Kagome and confine the four of them in the barrier for a period of time, all the while doing God-knows-what with Kagome. Kirara, on the other hand, had stayed with Kagome in hopes of protecting her, but Miroku couldn't remember what had happened before being knocked out by a blow to the head from the blunt end of Kohaku's sword.
Sango sighed, “What's going to happen to Kohaku?” she murmured, “Naraku used him in this plot to get us here and kidnap Kagome. You don't think he'll kill him do you?”
“It all depends, my dear. I'd like to say not, but if Naraku intends to steal the shard embedded in him, than there is no hope left for him.”
Sango began to whimper and pushed Miroku away when he had tried to put a comforting arm around her.
“Dammit,” Inuyasha murmured pounding another fist against the wall of the barrier, “Kagome's out there all alone and I can't be there to protect her.”
“She's a strong woman,” Miroku said, “she can take care of herself.”
“But it's Naraku. I don't know how Kagome can stand up to him herself without me there to protect her.”
I promised her, I'd protect her… Inuyasha dismally thought.
“Well, isn't this a site for sore eyes…”
Inuyasha spun on his heal and rushed and jumped at the demonic wall with a growl at the site of Kagura.
“You bitch!” Inuyasha spat. “Where is Kagome?”
“Hm, now is that anyway to talk, Inuyasha,” she chuckled and a malicious yet playful smirk crawled upon her lips, “And wouldn't you like to know where she is. As a matter of fact, I'm just going to check in on her. I'll let you know how she is when I come back. I don't know about you, since you're all trapped in that little barrier, but I can smell her blood all the way from over here already.”
“Shut up!” Inuyasha screamed as he took out his Tetsusaiga and began to hack away at the demonic barrier; it was useless. Kagura laughed at his attempt to break free.
“You're no match for the new Naraku, Inuyasha. He's stronger. We all are.”
“You just wait until I get out of here! Then let's hear you say that!!”
Kagura laughed and began walking away into the darkness of the night, “I'll give her your regards if you like.” And with that she was gone.
Inuyasha let out a violent, uncontrolled scream as he began to leap at the side of the barrier. Miroku and Sango could only watch; they had gotten up when Kagura had decided to show her face, but they knew it would be wise to stay quiet, especially since it was dealing with matters between Inuyasha and Kagome.
A growing tired Inuyasha breathed in heavily and fell to the ground in anguish cross-legged. He rested his head in his right hand and covered his eyes as his heart began to ache for Kagome and her safety.
Kagome, Inuyasha thought, please…please be okay…
