Chapter 9
Inuyasha started to approach Kagome; he wanted to explain why he wanted to kill her father. Never did he suspect that the love of his life would be a part of his revenge. The part of him that had been obsessed with nothing but retribution, wanted to have his reprisal on her, but he had fallen in love with his captive. “How did she know?” He thought still approaching the armed vixen. He had defeated her before and now he would have to repeat his actions.
Kagome watched in fear as Inuyasha made his way over to her, but stood her ground ready to fight until the death. She asked, “Why do you want to kill my father, what has he done to you?”
Inuyasha stopped and said, “I would be happy to oblige your information if you put down your sword.”
She thought about it, “No, if I put my sword down you will kill me as well.”
Inuyasha said that he would kill General Higurashi's entire family, but did he really need to? He voiced calmly, “No Kagome, I will not harm you or your little sister, but your father I can't promise.”
She looked at him and said, “Do I have your word, your word as a gentleman?”
He smiled, thought for a moment, and then laughed, “A gentleman? I'm no gentleman, I'm a pirate.”
“Inuyasha, do I have your word?”
Koga could not help but snicker at the response, “Inuyasha a gentleman? That would be the day.”
Inuyasha turned to see his friend laughing. Then turned to look at Kagome, “I'm no gentleman my dear, I'm a pirate, and I give you my word as a pirate that no harm will come to you.”
She glared at him then responded, “A word as a pirate? Pirates are lying dogs! All pirates do is murder and plunder!”
Inuyasha turned to his first mate and then to Koga with pleading eyes, Miroku spoke up. “Lady Kagome, I have known Captain Inuyasha for a very long time, he is good to his word.”
Koga and Sango nodded in agreement.
“Please leave the room, I need to talk to her alone.”
He watched them leave the room and began to close the door behind them, but Sango stopped him. “Miss, please spare my vases. I know he is stubborn and a bit arrogant, but he is a man of his word, please listen to him.”
Closing the door, she retired with her lover and Koga down the stairs.
Kagome was starting to feel ill, now she was alone with him. “Do I trust him, or do I still fight him? I do want to know why he wants to kill my father,” she contemplated. Her hands became shaky and she lowered her sword, letting it fall onto the hard wooden floor.
“Thank you, Kagome.”
Now he was able to approach her. He bent down to picked up the sword and slid it to the other side of the room, out of his and her reach.” Yes Kagome, I did all those things you said, I have murdered, I have pillaged. However, I do not intend to hurt you. In the short time we have had under these circumstances, I have grown very fond of you,” he confessed.
When Koga reached the bottom of the stairs, he saw Ginta and called him over. “What are my orders, Sir?”
Koga looked at him and said, “We will wait for Captain Inuyasha and then I will give you your orders. But for right now, stay and drink, get a good meal and then I will call you.” With that, Koga went outside for some fresh air. “I can't believe she is General Higurashi's daughter, “he laughed, “This will be most interesting indeed.”
Kagome felt weak in the knees, as she saw him approach her. “Will he keep his word?” She thought as she felt a strong pair of arms around her waist pulling her into a tight hug.
“Please Kagome, come to the bed, and relax. I feel you trembling, I have kept my word. Please let me tell you why.” He said trying to soothe her.
“Okay,” she said softly and walked over to the bed to sit down.
Inuyasha sat next to the bed with Kagome, he grabbed her hands trying to comfort her, but she pulled them back.
“Sir, just tell me!” She demanded.
He had a sad expression on his face but complied with her wishes. “I was a young pup at the time. We lived in a small village in Japan. I remember a group of men broke down our door, I tried to fight them, but I was so young. A tall man with black hair grabbed my mother. I called for her but instead I saw the man slap her and take her back into the house. I could hear her screaming, I tried to fight the men that held me until one of them hit me over the head, and then only silence. When I awoke, I was on a ship with other prisoners chained to a wall. Their language was foreign to me, so we could not communicate. Kagome, it was your father that raped and murdered my mother and took me hostage.” He continued while watching the confused look in her eyes. “I remember leaving the ship with the others. We were put to work at the Higurashi Plantation. Your father made it an everyday occurrence to whip me and the other slaves.”
“No! This cannot be true,” she sighed, tears now running down her face.
“I'm so sorry Kagome, but this is true. I'm the one who gave him that scar on his face. I could not stay there, I had to escape. If I did not, God knows what he was going to do next. He has been after me ever since.”
Kagome could not fathom the conclusions of her father's actions. Also she felt very sad for the demon captain. “How did you know I had a little sister?”
“I knew because I had known your mother. Did your father tell you how she died?” He asked looking into her teary blue eyes.
“He told me she died giving birth to my sister, but I don't remember much. I was only five at the time.” She admitted solemnly.
“No Kagome, your father killed her a week after your sister was born and before I escaped. Your mother used to treat the wounds of the slaves, I included, which infuriated your father. I can't believe he said she died in childbirth.” He growled. “He saw her tending my injuries. I loved your mother, she reminded me of my own. Anyway, he came into the room and started yelling at her. They argued a bit and she threatened to leave him. Then he punched her in the face, I tried to save her, but the foreman held me back. I watched your father beat her to death. In addition, he told the foreman to dig her a grave and bury her body. He came at me with a whip but before he lashed out, I clawed his face and ran off into the surrounding swamps with the shackles attached to my legs. I came across a boat with a dead man inside. I took his pistol broke the chain and made my escape never to return until I was older and stronger to have my vengeance. Now here I am 30 years later and a deadly pirate. A pirate who fell in love with the enemy's daughter.” He concluded the story, looking over at Kagome who had a lifeless expression on her face.
“He killed my mother? Oh God!” She cried, and buried her head into her hands and started sobbing. She could feel Inuyasha pulling her close to his body. She sobbed harder into his chest.
“Don't worry Kagome, I won't let that evil man get anywhere near you or your sister,” he calmly soothed, and ran his claws through her hair.
She shuttered, “I wanted to see her but I was sent to stay with my aunt before my sister was born. I only came back after my father came to tell me my mother passed on and to take me back to the plantation.”
“Its okay Kagome, I'm here.”
