Chapter 19
As the battle was drawing near the end, bodies covered the beach; the men that did not survive on the ship were drifting to shore by the ocean's current.
Off in the distance a gunshot rang solidly in the background, Shippo's ears twitched at the sound turning around he could see the captain face down on the ground. “Captain!” He screamed, and then looked over at Miroku.
Inuyasha felt the heated pain run through his chest, the pressure of the blast caused him to loose consciousness. Luckily, the bullet was a clean shot and barely missed his heart, while his wounds quickly began to heal. Coming too he could feel his inner beast demanding to be released, slowly his once amber eyes turned from a beautiful golden hue to a sinister crimson red. His need to retrieve his mate was primal which rendered him into total bloodlust. Slowly emerging from his fallen position he stood up; his elongated claws dug into his now fisted hands.
Inuyasha sniffed the air to pinpoint his enemy's position. He took off, running with inhuman speed towards his prey, ignoring the two women who were still gasping in utter shock. “How dare he touch what is mine! I will enjoy the thought of ripping out his throat.” Inuyasha growled fiercely at his implacable thoughts.
Kagome was relentless, desperately trying to free herself from his firm grasp. Pulling her closer to his chest, she resisted the sickness that slowly approached her throat. Her weep ridden eyes were now swollen, she couldn't believe that Inuyasha was dead, she didn't want to fathom that no one would be able to rescue her from the devil himself. “You have gotten what you wanted, you filth. You killed my love, my mate, you have no use for me, please let me go so I can grieve properly.” She said hoping he would comply. However, that was not his intentions.
Naraku chuckled. “Now my dear, you are both right and wrong, I did indeed wanted Inuyasha dead, but I also wanted you too. Now since he is dead, I will ravish your luscious body with my tongue, I will taste your sweet nectar in my mouth savoring your essences, too feel your tightness, your pain and fear.” He whispered in her ear, feeling her tremble, against his solid chest. “My dear you are very arousing, when you're afraid; I do not think that I will be able to contain myself for very much longer.” He said shivering with excitement.
“You disgust me Naraku! I would gladly die a thousands deaths than be touched by the likes of you! She said snarling at him, as she continued to struggle.
“Now, now is that anyway to talk to your new master, your new mate, and besides death is too easy, No I will enjoy breaking you in! Nonetheless the more you wish for death the more pleasure I will bring you.” He said with a crazed laugh. However, his expressed amusement soon ended when his horse reared up in fright. Trying to control the panic stricken beast, he sniffed the air. “No that can't be I shot him, he's dead!” Naraku said with a mixture of anger and panic. He did not want to admit to himself that Inuyasha's scent had changed, and the very thought scared him. Looking around he could see no one, however he knew all too well that he was watching him, stalking him. Although the horse was still uneasy, he constantly gazed into the bush for any signs of movement to give away his position.
Kagome felt a sudden amount of hope that her beloved was still alive, she called out to him. “Inuyasha!” She yelled out again repeating his name. She did not care that Naraku was there. She fought him harder.
Naraku did not like Kagome calling for her mate; it angered him even more. Pushing her away from his chest, he closed his hands into a fist and hit her in the face. The now exasperating girl lay back into his arms unconscious.
A menacing growl erupted through out the forest sending birds and other small mammals scurrying away.
Naraku tensed up more when he heard Inuyasha, he un-holstered his gun and grabbed his powder horn, he pulled the stopper out with his teeth; gunpowder shot out like a black mist into his face. He cursed himself because of his frantic clumsiness. When he reached into his satchel, and retrieved a steel shot; using his ramrod, he began pushing the bullet further into the cylindrical shaft. However his valid attempts, proved to be in vain, when he felt a sudden pain in his back. Acting out in instinct, he reached under his other arm and behind his back, he could feel the wetness and rubbed his fingers together. He roared in anger and drew Kagome closer to his chest, using her body as a shield. “Inuyasha! How dare you! Come out here and face me!” He roared, aiming his gun franticly around his body.
Inuyasha laughed. “Naraku, you forget who you're dealing with. You forget, that you only have one shot, before you are able to refill, and I will run you down before you even have the chance.” He shouted out, and then ran around the area. He was thankful of the dense jungle, for his silver hair would be an easy target.
He continued to toy with his prey, he could smell the fear radiating off the evil Captain. “This needed too end now!” He thought with a sinister grin. Inuyasha jumped out of the thicket, he stood their looking at his foe with sinister eyes. “I'm here now Naraku!” He said with venom, not once breaking eye contact. “Take your shot!” He said with a daring growl, hoping that he would waste his one shot.
Fire he did. Naraku took quick accurate aim into his chest again, this time leaning more towards his heart. The small round bullet flew through the air with alarming speed. Inuyasha jumped out of the way only earning a small flesh wound on his arm. Feeling defeated Naraku pulled out his saber and held it to the petite woman's neck; the sharp tip pressed to her tender flesh, yet not enough to draw out blood.
Inuyasha made his move, he ran up to the horse with lightning speed, Naraku had no choice, but to defend himself, he carelessly moved the tip of the blade off Kagome's neck leaving her with a small gash. Inuyasha caught a whiff of the fresh blood, growling more he brought up his clawed hand and slashed the side of Naraku's face. Naraku released the hold on Kagome, while Inuyasha grabbed her and carried her away from the previous battle. He started to inhale her scent, he growled knowing that his sent was faint, and Naraku's scent had overpowered his. His attention quickly diverted to the sudden sound of thundering hooves, off in the distance. Quickly scooping up his mate, he ran to the sound of where his enemy withdrew.
Naraku kicked the sides of his horse faster he needed to make his escape. He was confident enough that Inuyasha would not go after him, due to the simple fact that he indeed had his mate back. He pushed on.
Inuyasha ran faster that he has ever run, finally making his attack, he slashed one of the horses legs, causing the running animal to land face first into the ground, Naraku however was thrown from his injured beast. He too landed face first into the ground, he was still alive, and his arm was broken. Trying to stand he was pushed back down by Inuyasha's boot on top of his back. “Where do you think you are going?” Inuyasha asked, with a growl that was so dark, sinister, and revengeful, that would make anyone fear him instantaneously.
Naraku grunted in pain, with the pressure of the captain holding him down. He knew there was no escape. He felt the release of Inuyasha's boot, then a sudden kick to the side; he rolled over on his back, now facing the ruthless pirate before him.
Inuyasha grabbed his long black hair and brought him up forcefully. Black eyes met red eyes before Naraku saw eternal darkness. Inuyasha slashed his throat with his claws. He struck him down with a full blow nearly decapitating the evil man. Turning his back on the corpse that lie on the now bloodied ground, he retrieved his mate and returned to the forest.
Kaede explained to Shippo and Miroku that Inuyasha was indeed alive, and that he went after Kagome. She also told him about his new look, she was not sure what happened to him, but glad to know he would live.
Sango came out of the house after hearing his voice. She ran towards Miroku, with love in her eyes, as she flung herself into his arms. He welcomed it. Reaching his tender lips, she kissed him deeply. She was happy he had survived and had returned to her. Her actions soon left her feeling guilty, she could not help but wonder about her friend. “I hope he gets to her in time.” She said, stopping the kiss and looking into his warm eyes. He pulled her tighter into his brawn chest, reassuringly.
“They will be fine my love, I know he will not let Naraku touch her and if what Kaede says is true, that he has transformed, he will come back.” Miroku said, tilting her head up to meet his honest gaze.
“How do you know that he will not hurt her? What Kaede said that he was in his demon form and could not control himself?” She asked; a slight chill of fear ran through her body.
“I assure you love, he has changed before in front of her and somehow, he has never killed her. Now no one besides myself and Shippo have been affected by him; usually the person that challenges him or really upsets him, brings out his inner demon.” He said calmly, still holding his gaze.
Sango could not argue with him anymore, he was right if he trusted Inuyasha in his demon form then she would too. “However, I will have to ask Kagome what she did to really anger him so.” She thought to herself, before bringing her lips up to his, she tenderly kissed him.
Miroku could not contain the small smirk that had appeared on his face, he was giving himself a mental victory dance when had just won the small war with his woman. Pulling her closer, he deepened the kiss. Making sure, his hands roamed over her voluptuous body.
Kagome awoke in Inuyasha's arms, she thought that she was dreaming, and then reached out to touch his chest. “He felt warm.” She thought before turning her gaze upon him. She was a little startled at first when she saw blood red eyes. She whimpered before him, fear enveloped her; she remembered those eyes. However, he had not hurt her before. “Inuyasha, is that really you?” She inquired, she felt silly for asking, already knowing who he was; but needed conformation that he was indeed alive.
He stopped running as soon as he heard her soft voice calling out to him. He looked down into her eyes and saw fear and confusion, gently letting her go, he watched as her body slid down his. He held her softly in his embrace. “Yes my love I'm alive, I'm sorry I was not able to protect you. Did he hurt you anywhere else?” He said, in a deep growling voice. As he nuzzled into her neck, licking the dried blood off her.
“No!”
Apparently that was all she needed to say. The fear driven demon needed her, wanted to taste her and most importantly love her. He drew her closer and ravaged her lips. Bringing her arms around his shoulders, she pulled her body closer to his. Tears streamed down her face, as she glowed with love. For her it was too surreal to believe that he was standing before her. Breaking the kiss she looked into his loving eyes, she could see Inuyasha even if his eyes were red it was still Inuyasha. “Don't you ever die on me again? You bastard!” She yelled at him. He growled with a chuckle and then kissed her again.
