InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Cold Heart For a Dead Soul ❯ Waking Up to the Real World ( Chapter 4 )
Chap.4
Waking up I smelled him all over me. Maybe that was because my face was buried into the crook of his neck, or maybe that was because I was wrapped around him. His eyes opened a few minutes after I woke, but I hadn't moved.
"Kagome…" he said raking his fingers through my hair slowly untangling it.
"Don't talk, I can guess what happened. The beast came out, I had no control."
"Don't talk like that, it's not your fault." He stopped momentarily.
"Your right it's not you baited me, you son of a bitch." I moved then pushing my knee in between his legs top stand. His eyes widened but I was only close, and didn't hit my mark.
I went into the kitchen and pulled out a bottle of water from the refrigerator. I walked back out and he was still on the ground. I poured the bottle on his and he sat straight up. "Damn you to hell…"
"Get out of my home, and never return. I don't trust people who lie, and provoke me to do some thing I already said no to. GET OUT AND DON'T COME BACK!"
He stood and gathered his things. Looking back at me before leaving he said something that made me forget what I was doing for a moment.
"I hope you find that will make your cold heart return to what it once was. I was hoping I could but obviously not. My love is with you Kagome, should you need anything call on me." He left with his head bent watching the ground.
I watched him go and Officer Tioshi walk up my side walk.
"What do you want?"
"Who was that?" He asked watching Miroku closely.
"None of your business, what do you want?" I repeated myself.
"The boy across the street. Is he your brother?"
"Why?" I asked leaning against the door frame.
"He was taken to the hospital early this morning. He overdosed on some drug. Has nobody notified you?"
"No, he… he wouldn't do that. There was no way he could…" I stopped suddenly. Tears invaded my vision. I am not one to cry but when it came to Souta, anything could happen. I collapsed to the floor, a heap of sobs.
"Kagome do you want to go see him? I can take you." Inu- Yasha crouched down beside me. I looked to him for comfort and nodded. He helped me stand and walk to the car slowly.
The drive was long, and most of the time I had my eyes closed trying to hold back my tears. If Souta was hurt I was going to kill the dealer that gave him the drug. If he wasn't I was going to pummel him then kill the dealer. The officer was talking about something and I stopped him. "If you don't shut up I'll kill you."
"Feh, don't talk to me like I'm a kid, wench." He cursed at me, really cursed at me.
"Since when have you become so bold you ass hole?" I hated people who did that, so I reacted with hostility.
"Are you a Dark Lighter?" I was taken back. How in the hell did he figure the words out? I wasted no time in a retort.
"Where the fuck did that come from?"
"Are you?" he asked again.
"Do you even know what they are?" I asked looking at him with dangerous eyes.
"Vampires that can walk in day light."
"Vampires are folk lore. Dark Lighters and Nighters are real. Nighters are your traditional `vampires'."
"You didn't answer my question." His tone was annoyed not angered, a good sign he was short tempered.
"So…"
"Every question deserves an answer. Isn't that right Lady Kagome?"
I sat silent for a moment letting my own words sink in as they had been so ravenously spit back out at me. I could feel the tension in the car. Finally I spoke.
"Yes."
I closed my eyes. I had never told anybody outside of my kind what I was.
"I am a Dark Lighter, a vampire, a leech whatever you want to call me." I bent my head in shame. He looked at me when we stopped at a red light.
"You probably already know but I'm a hanyou. I know how it feels to have desires no one else does. I know how it feels to loose family and I know how it feels to have people run." He looked ahead and we finished the ride in silence.
The hospital was a busy place but I found Souta with out a hitch. I entered the room of doctors, and grandfather that had been chatting but when I slammed the door against the wall it went silent.
"Why did no body notify me?" I glanced daggers at grandfather.
"There was no time Kagome."
"There is always time." I screamed at him with tears welling up again.
"Kagome…" Souta's weak voice called to me.
"He hasn't talked since he was brought here. What happened boy?" A doctor asked. Souta did not answer.
"move." I said simply glaring at the doctor with eyes of fire. He did as told. Souta grabbed my hand.
"Don't leave me. I don't want to be alone any more Kagome. I don't want to die alone."
"You're not dying Souta. I won't let you."
"Kagome… I… I did something stupid. You told me once that anything could kill. I took cocaine and speed, crushed it, burnt it and injected it as a liquid. Please Kagome don't let me die alone."
"Leave now." I turned slightly directing everyone this demand. They filed out.
"Souta I'm going to do something right now that'll make this stop. Do you want me to help you get better?"
"Yes, I don't want to die yet… I don't think you'd forgive me."
"Damn straight I wouldn't."
He smiled at this. I smiled back squeezing his hand. "Will it hurt?"
"It might."
The officer entered the room. I turned. "I told everyone to get out."
"I can't. It's the law chick."
"Fine then you get to watch."
He looked at me strangely. I pulled out the IV and took off everything they had attached. I would blow the computers of I didn't. I turned these machines off so they wouldn't alert the staff, and then I got started. "Close your eyes. Go to sleep. It'll be easier if you aren't awake."
"Uh huh…" he was already gone. I looked at Inu. "Would you like to help or do you want to remain useless?"
"I prefer standing, and watching."
"coward." I whispered knowing he could hear it. He watched me as I took Souta's sheets off. I cut one of my finger tips drawing blood. I pressed this to Souta's fore head and made a cross. The finger healed.
I placed my hand over this cross and over his heart, closing my eyes. "Gods deliver him."
I felt the power flow away from me then darkness climbed my arm devouring my aura. I was in a different reality now. It was dark to all sides but I felt myself fall to the floor, a cold tiled floor. Souta cried out and I knew he was okay but after that my eyes remained closed. Try as I might I wasn't strong enough to go home.
