InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Cold Heart For a Dead Soul ❯ Beginning of A Killer Friendship ( Chapter 10 )
Chap.9
I took him home. It was the only thing I could do. If I took him to a hospital there would be questions that I could not answer. I laid him on my bed, and walked down stairs. I sat at my dark red wood table and thought. I had a hunter in my house, I had a love in my hunter. I heard something stir upstairs.
I listened for a minute, there it was again. I carefully went upstairs. "Kagome, be my angel…"
I recognized the saying and hurried into the room. He was still asleep, but dreaming. He sat up and talked in gibberish. I smiled. He laid back down. He looked peaceful, almost carefree. Slowly I walked over to him and laid down putting my head on his chest. His heart pounded against his chest at an unbearable pace, but I fell asleep to the beat. As I woke I pulled away slightly just to be drawn back to him by his arm. He snuggled his nose into my hair. "Inu forgive me… I didn't think they would attack you."
"No need to be sorry. It's … not your fault." His breath came in gasps.
"Quit talking." I moved away from him and turned on dim lights. His wounds were healing, quicker than I thought they would. The cut on his head looked bad, I touched it lightly and he winced. On impulse I licked my finger. His blood was different, he watched me from his place on my bed.
"Taste good?"
"Better than you know…" I answered without thinking. I looked up to him slowly.
"Do you want more?" it was a simple, daring question. I didn't answer instead I pushed him back onto the bed.
I straddled his hips and lowered my face to his neck. A sharp intake of breath made me pull back for a moment. He was in pain, but I could not pull away. He held me firmly by my hips. "Inu…"
"Please, don't leave me now." He whispered pulling me back down. I gave in even though my thoughts told me to go, to leave him alone.
"Inu…" I breathed against his neck. "do you really want this?"
"Yes…" he answered me pushing his pelvis up. I purred and pressed him back down, grinding against him. He growled in pleasurable pain. I had felt his hardness beneath his clothes but for some reason that was not what I was focused on. His heart throbbed, the pulse radiating from his neck enchanting me. My eyes caught his but I saw no fear as I dipped my head and caressed his throat with my fangs. Instantly I felt myself let go as my fangs slid into his skin.

It was a reflex, instantly I had a knife at her throat, slicing a warning into her. She pulled away quicker than my eyes could follow. "I'm sorry Inu. I didn't mean it."
Only her voice made me realize what had happened. "oh, Kagome, it's impulse. you have to understand."
"I'll go, you rest. You're still hurt." Her voice was faint. The blood line from my knife was healing.
"Kagome… please." I whined. She turned back from the door frame. Her hand rested on the door handle preparing to close it.
"I'll come back later." Her eyes avoided mine as the door shut. "when my pride heals perhaps."
I forced myself to stay in bed and rest. Dreams filled my vision in blurs, then slowing.

"I half expected it to be Kouga with you up there… imagine my surprise when the aura is hanyou."
"Leave me alone Miroku." I hiss brushing past the shadow at the end of my stairs.
"You left me for him. You could have it all, and you're playing with a child's mind."
"He's not a child."
"He is to us, Kagome, he is fragile, and he is a weakness. For the battle brewing he will be your down fall."
"Battle? What battle?"
"That's why I came here in the first place. The elders have started war on the youkai. Sesshoumaru was their first target. Inu's brother is dead. They're moving along the coast and working their way this direction. Kagome he'll be dead by nightfall. I don't want you to go through that pain again. Let me take him."
"No, I can handle this myself. If I die in the process, I die. He will live. Peace on your wings…"
"Make yours golden." He nodded his farewell and disappeared. The elders had made a quick decision, but what set them off? I turned when I heard Inu cry out and a thud sound.
I was there in an instant accessing the situation. Kouga stood above Inu. A blade was in his hand and fury was on his face. "Kouga, please, put the knife down."
"He's hanyou. How could you choose him over me Kagome?" he made a small gesture to Inu who was squirming now. I saw blood but I couldn't tell where it was coming from.
"You're hanyou too just in a different way. Kouga the blade." I held out my hand for it. He looked at me with disgust.
"Kagome…" Inu whispered in pain. It killed me. It seriously turned my insides and killed me. I turned to him for a split second. Kouga moved toward him faster than light.
"No…" I raced to Inu before Kouga got there and covered him. The knife came down in my side and I rolled away pulling it out. I threw it at Kouga when I found my footing. It sliced past his ear and slammed into a wall. He grabbed the tip of the ear I had cut and hissed at me. Disappearing he gave Inuyasha a pleased look.
When he had gone I accessed the damage to Inu. He was slashed across his chest, nothing big for a Nighter, defiantly no problem for a Dark Lighter, but a hanyou…
He looked like a rag doll as I lifted his head carefully sliding under him. His head lolled against my arm. That alone scared me into a frantic search for other wounds. My own side ached but I took no notice as I slipped his shirt from his body and moved his bloodied hair away from his face.
"Baby, Sesshoumaru is dead. The Higher Vampire Council has declared war on youkai. If you don't wake up now they will kill you, I won't be able to stop them. If they kill me in the process so be it. I don't want you to die so soon. You haven't even lived out your life yet. Inuyasha, for the first time in my life I'm scared." I buried my face into his hair.

I heard her tell me my brother was dead. I heard everything she said but I still couldn't move, couldn't speak. "Inu, I love you."
The whisper was more reassuring than anything had ever been. My wound healed almost instantly after that, as if those words had sealed it themselves. I closed my eyes and just breathed. A war was coming and this was the eerie silence before the storm. No matter how hard I tried though I could not open my eyes. I whimpered to her, and felt her hand rubbing my right ear. I leaned into it and fell asleep, hypnotized by her finger tips.

I walked up to the house. Instantly I sensed her in her room. With whom, was the question.
"What do you want?" her words were harsh as she opened the door.
"I told you, they are coming for him. Two hours at the most. Kagome you have to get him out of here."
"Sango, he is sleeping because Kouga almost killed him. Let him just sleep for an hour more. I can take him away when I need to." She sounded distant, almost like she was soulless.
"Kagome…"
"Sango… stay here with me. I want some one to talk to until it's time."
"Alright…"
