InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Cold Heart For a Dead Soul ❯ Betrayal ( Chapter 15 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

An: I got an email from a reader the other day and decided to go ahead and post the next chapter before the other stories. So here you go Megan Consoer. As for the rest of you: I'm sorry for the very long and overdue wait. So many things have been going on in my life in the last year I just haven't had time to write like I used to. I thank you for being patient with me.

Chap. 14
I stayed where I was for several minutes and then moved into the shadows away from the building. He could smell me now, I knew he could. Miroku was an excellent choice for this job. The only thing Naraku didn't know, was that he loved Sango.

“I'm not as innocent as you think I am.” I said coming around the corner at him. He paused before turning and putting Sango between me and him.

“Kagome you're alive?”

“No I'm just an illusion.”

He smiled. “And so am I.”

“The war is over. The elders have called back their forces and are taking them back under wing now.” I was looking more at the knife at Sango creamy throat than at his face.

He loosened his grip. “Really?”

I nodded solemnly to him. “Yes, Miroku, would you let her go and allow me go collect my hanyou?”

“I'm being paid Kagome. I can't do that.” His grip was tightened again.

“You're money bag is dead.”

He paused again, and in that second, I was near him. I grabbed the knife, slicing my hand open but still obtaining possession. It flew to the nearest tree before he had realized what had happened to it.

“Kagome…” His eyes were hurt.

I stood my ground knowing he may become vicious. He let Sango drop to the ground and she crumpled as if she were just rags. Her eyes were closed and her mouth was a light rose color in the soft moonlight.

“Miroku what have you done?”

“What I was told to do.” His voice wavered.

Sango had been so into him when we talked. She was so exuberant about seeing him again. Standing back I saw the protectiveness in his stature. She could not be dead.

“Miroku. Tell me she's sill alive.”

“She's dead. Dead like you and me.”

I stood still and silent as he moved around me. I would not turn to show my fear of him. I would not turn until I had to. The crunching of leaves under his feet let me know where he was. He reappeared on my other side, and stopped over her body again.

“She's not dead at all though. We were never dead per say. We've all been foolish Kagome. We never saw all of this coming.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Lady Kikyou. She's alive Kagome. She's older than Naraku. She's the mother of us all. And your hanyou took her. Do you understand?”

I caught his eyes with mine. “He took her?”

“Yes.”

I stood quiet, silent yet again and looked away from him. “She is not Nighter. She is human, he would have noticed.”

“Yes, she is human. She will bring about our reign. She will be reborn.” He kneeled by Sango, smiling down at her. “He unfortunately could not be.”

I growled. “What are you getting at?”

“You know what I mean. Naraku beat him bloody Kagome. He's dying. Almost gone.”

“Let me by Miroku.”

“I can not, he will be the destructor of us all if you change him Kagome.”

“I will take that chance.”

He rose again, knowing Sango would be all right. “But I will not.”
