Thoughts - Last chapter…it took me forever. I am constantly always wondering, “What would Sesshomaru say? What would he look like in this circumstance? How far does he have to be pushed to be angry, lustful, ect? Is he out of character if he becomes to much of this or that?” Its annoying as heck…but oh well. I really just want to take a break and read other people's fanfiction…

Chapter 5: Making Up and Fighting
A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.
~Stephen Wright
When she woke up the next morning she thought she was alone. `Thought' being until she turned her head to the side and saw her husbands face before her, his nose all of a few inches away from her shoulder. And that was all it took. Her day was shot and she hadn't been conscious even ten seconds. That never boded well.
*Is that a threat, husband?*
She moaned and sat up, her hands going to her head to massage her temples. The stupid man! Why did she crack? She hated him! But this fighting…it was beginning to get almost…
“Funny…” She jumped, snapping her head around to see her husband looking at her from the futon.
“What did you say?” He yawned and stretched his arms over his head in a way that made her roll her eyes.
“I said `funny', because I am usually the first to wake.” She shrugged in understanding; mentally shaking herself for thinking he had read her mind.
“There is a first for everything.” She said as she slid the covers off of her body and made to get off the bed. She was stopped when he grabbed her wrist and jerked her backwards. She gave a cry of alarm as he did so and fell onto her back, the silk blankets swirling around her as they got tangled in her legs. Her head landed on his chest and she glared up at him when she realized what had happened.
“I was told by my mother that there are many different ways of being woken up, but I did not imagine this, as one of them.” She said with a frown. He gave her a devilish look and she glared at him for it.
“Well…if you are disappointed, I could try another way…” Calmly, she released her wrist of his hand and sat up.
“Sorry…but I'm already wide awake.”
“I could put you to sleep again.” He said, his body shifting to show off his stomch muscles. Her eyes narrowed.
“Pray tell?”
“With certain…activities…” She smacked him on the shoulder and tried to get up again, stopping when he gave something close to a laugh and grabbed her wrist again.
“Sesshomaru, if you don't stop grabbing me I am going to-”
“Here.” She stopped and looked down at his other hand. There was a long something wrapped in red silk cloth being held in it. Surprised, she felt him release her wrist as she became interested. She turned around to face him.
“What is it?”
“Your first present.” He said, almost as if he was embarrassed. IInstantly, she was wary.
“If you think you can bribe me into giving you anything-”
“Who said bribe?”
“No one…I just expect bribes because it's from you.” His eyes closed at the stinging words and when they opened, she knew he had controlled a response.
`This is new…'
“Just open it.” She gave him another look but did as he asked and pulled at the ribbon that held it closed. Instantly, it fell away and she opened the silk to give him the pleasure of a small gasp.
Before her was a long stemmed jinchogei, a flower that grew on a certain type of bush found in the hills where it was more rocky and hard to get to. Naturally her husband would get it, as he had his speed and flying skills. Her eyes lit up as she lifted it and something else appeared. A pair of beautiful boxwood combs with painted cherry blossoms adorning their fronts. On their handles were an elaborate array of small emeralds that had been individually placed into the wood. They were masterfully done-simple, yet elegant, and went along with the flower they had come with. At first she didn't know what to say. The unlike-himself attitude of her husband actually almost scarred her. He grunted and got up from the bed when she said nothing.
“Wear them…tonight at dinner. They will go well with that kimono your sister gave you as a wedding present.” She nodded without looking up and stood, walking to her mirror to put them in a small drawer reserved for her hair jewelry. She didn't have very much…just an old pair of dragon bone hair sticks painted artfully with crickets and clouds swirling around them, that her mother had given her for a birthday present when she was seventeen. Placing her new combs gently inside the padded drawer, she leaned back and saw her husband watching her in the mirror.
“I find that people are always staring at me…and it is bothersome.” She said as she stood and went to their dresser.
“They cannot help but stare at beautiful things.” He said as he joined her to slide through the menagerie of colors and fabrics. She smiled slightly but said nothing and chose a pale brown kimono embroidered with gold and red maple leaves. Looking for something to go with it, she looked over and saw her husband was in her way. Reaching around him to get her obi and navy undercoat, she felt a sharp pain against her buttocks and sucked in air sharply as she shot back up.
He had spanked her.
“What the HELL was that for?!” She screeched angrily as she caught sight of his amused look. He shrugged and she slapped him across the face. He only smiled more.
“That hurt!”
“I forget…you are a girl.”
“Well, it is probably a good thing I am not a man!” She said, glaring at him so hard he thought he just might burst into flames.
“You mean you aren't?” He said, turning from her to find his own clothes. She went still and then let loose a hiss.
“Stop pushing me…or there will be consequences!” She said tightly, reining back on her anger at him as she tried to find a calm place inside of herself. Meditating had been working wonders for her in the last few weeks, and she wondered offhandedly why she had ever stopped.
The insulting man had the gall to throw his head back with a roar of laughter at her words making her grit her teeth, momentarily forgetting about her place.
“Do it again Sesshomaru…so help me, you just do it again!” She hissed at him, her clothes forgotten as she challenged him. He didn't even look at her but instead picked a pair of sapphire hamaka's and matching kimono shirt embroidered with yellow crickets and oranges.
“I recall that it was you, my dear wife who wanted that truce. I would not want to be the one to break it.” Kagome tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before wrapping the obi around her waist and jerking it closely around her.
“Is that so! You just-! How could you-? God damn it, I've forgotten what I wanted to say!”
“Distracted by my masculine beauty?” She gagged and twisted her obi around herself again, gritting her teeth when her hands got caught up in it in her frustration, red flaring across her cheeks like an erupting volcano.
“Not on your life!”
“But the truce, my dear…”
“You do not treat me as a wife, so how can there be a truce?!” He raised an eyebrow at that, his shoulders relaxing slightly as he looked down at her.
“Is that so? Our wedding night, I seemed to be.” Her face became redder in embarrassment and she fumbled with the long silk obi.
“Our wedding night is not what I mean! I mean saying hello to me in the mornings when we wake up! Asking me question about myself!” She accidentally tied a knot into her obi because of her clumsiness and she gave a small huff as she ripped the knot open and tried again.
“You could call me by my name!”
“Why would I do that? You get so angry when I don't.” He said, his demeanor sporty. She gave a howl of exasperation and he took that moment to step forward and begin to help her untie it again. He didn't answer her and she pushed him away.
“If I was a demoness, I'd beat you to a bloody pulp!” Kagome said with a scowl making her husband pause. She didn't see it, but slowly the edges of his mouth curled up, his bangs shadowing his eyes.
“Would you?” She huffed again and marched up to him, poking him in the chest roughly with her index finger.
“You heard me! To a bloody pulp!” He looked over his shoulder at her, his amber eyes catching the candlelight eerily.
“I doubt that.” She gasped angrily and was ready to poke him again but before she could, he materialized from in front of her. She glared at the now empty spot. Boy, if she was a demon she'd catch up to him in a heartbeat!
“I could make you strong...” One hand cupped the right side of her face and she jumped slightly.
“I am strong.” She said stubbornly as she tried to turn around. His free arm came around her waist, holding her there.
“Not as strong as me. You resent that.” His hot breath skimmed the shell of her ear as his hand ran across her shoulder and down her back. She inhaled sharply as the nimble fingers teasingly slid across her hip and easily ripped the completely tangled obi off. She made a noise of protest but he shushed her.
“Don't play your mind games on me-”
“Do you want to be made strong?” The fingers pulled the kimono jacket away and splayed his fingers across her undercoat, the only thing that separated her skin from his hand. Determined to stay her ground, she waited a few seconds and then nodded jerkily. He chuckled, his fangs nibbling her earlobe before drawing away and gently turning her in his arms. Her eyes glanced up at him, wary, determined, yet intrigued and he leaned forward and placed a teasing kiss against her jaw, his tongue tasting the delicate flesh.
“Then today you may train with me.” Her eyes which had slowly begun to close at the caress in his voice, snapped open in surprise.
“Wha…train?” Sesshomaru kissed the side of her mouth, his hands staying clear of any inappropriate parts of her body.
“I will instruct you.”
`He makes it sound, like it's a bloody HONOR!' She thought with a scowl.
“I already know how to fight.” She said defensively. To her utter amazement, he gave what sounded like a soft purr and nipped her chin.
“So I've been told. But to what level?”
He was seducing her. That was the only word for it. His hot and cold attitude was distracting her-straying her away from her hatred of him. She had to make him stop.
A sneer appeared on her face as her eyes turned hypercritical.
“*Shodan Ho.” She said bluffing. Being that she had trained with a Jiu-Jitsu master, she knew that there were ten levels of strength; she figured she was on a six or seven while Sesshomaru was a ten. But still, she knew some tricks. Some moves he might not be ready for. And she was more flexible then he was, not to mention she had a major advantage with her miko powers. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at that, his eyes flashing slightly again.
“Oh? Then show me.” She bit her lip.
“Why? I don't need to prove it to you, only the enemy!” He smirked at her and leaned back suddenly, stepping away.
“You are Second Kyu. Brown belt.” He said with an amused look. Her eyes widened but she refused to give him the satisfaction of him being right.
“Meet me in the dojo in an hour. And don't make me wait.” He said, somewhat snidely as he turned and stepped from their room. Remaining still, she slowly felt herself growing angrier and angrier, until finally she couldn't take it, and leaned down, stuffing a pillow against her face as she screamed out all the breath she had into it. From down the hall, Sesshomaru heard it and allowed himself a small amount of amusement.
`Now only if she could scream like that for me…'
*****
How did he always end up throwing her plans into her face? God damn it, when was she going to get a break and beat his ass?! As it was she had to swallow her pride and eat breakfast quickly in order to get down to the dojo. But like usual, luck hadn't been with her and she ended up being late, held up at the stable treating a stable lad who had gotten kicked in the gut by a horse. Honestly! Did he appreciate anything about her? Was she just some rug or some such object he could decide to rip up or throw away at any time? No-no, no, no, no, NO! If that jackass thought he could humiliate her, he was wrong! She may train with him, but he was not her superior! Nobody was or ever would be!
“Get up. Ready your arms for a defensive block or I will catch your neck with my hand.”
`I think that's the longest sentence he's ever uttered…bastard.' She grimaced inwardly as she stood, the bruise of her back pulsing where he had struck her with his Bo Staff to punish her for being late. It hurt like hell!
“Stop hitting me!”
“Defend yourself. The enemy will not be as kind as I am.” She glared at him.
`Yeah right. They at least might spare me for being a woman. Would he though? Uh, NO…'
“UGH!” She barely was able to block his fist as he suddenly materialized in front of her. Biting her lip against the pressure of his arm trying to push through her forearms, she gave a small cry and ducked to the side, her leg coming up to connect with what she thought was his chest. It was his hand. Her eyes widened as he smirked at her and twisted the leg making her fall to the floor with a gasp of pain. He was on her instantly, and she gritted her teeth as she blocked another blow, slamming her forehead into his and knocking him back slightly. He grunted in response, lunging back on top of her. Hissing, she put him into a Kneebar, hooking her arm under Sesshomaru's knee to keep him from escaping. He growled at her and she punched him in the face, the force slamming his head backwards into the floor. Taking her left knee, she gouged it into his stomach making him gasp, her arms hooking behind Sesshomaru's knee to then fall backwards with his leg secured. He tried to throw her off but she squeezed her legs together around his other leg and put her left arm around his ankle. He tried struggling again but she jerked him still, her breathing harsh and uneven. She was infuriated to see him not even break a sweat.
“You fight in anger.”
“Yeah? Well it's worked for me so far!” She said unconcernedly. To her surprise, Sesshomaru went completely limp in her grasp but she refused to fall for any of his tricks and didn't lessen her hold.
“Fight with your instincts, not your emotions.” Her eyes widened.
“Huh?” In the next moment, Sesshomaru's free arm chopped down hard against her thigh giving her a Charlie horse. Gasping, her legs released him and he rolled on top of her, pinning her arms above her head. She tried struggling again but it was no use, his body was pinning hers down, his knees pinning down her thighs as his hands held her arms. Then finally, knowing she couldn't do anything, her chest heaved up and down, straining for air, she let her head fall back against the floor in defeat. He gave a grunt of satisfaction and released her, standing and putting away his weapon.
“That was an unfair battle. My advantage of having a weapon is your weakness. I'm sure you will do better when you also have a weapon of your own.” Her eyes opened slightly to look at him. Had he just given her a compliment?
`And are his sentences getting longer? Boy…I just a thing with his sentences today don't I?' She thought sardonically.
“You did well for your first attempt. I did not know you knew the Kneebar technique.” She huffed and massaged her thigh where he had hit her, soothing the spasming muscle.
“But you are slow. Agonizingly so. You need to work harder or you will forever be weak. And I will not tolerate weakness-the enemy only takes advantage of it.” He said as he watched her.
“Look past your pain and center it so that it helps drive you.” She glanced up at him and gritted her teeth, as she made herself stand unsteadily.
“Look past `my' pain?” Instantly and out of nowhere, her fist exploded with pink energy and she lunged forward, catching him off guard as she slammed it into his face. The force knocked him a few feet away but he was up as quickly as he had fallen. Placing her still glowing hand on her leg, she sent a bolt of healing energy into it and was done in seconds. Looking around, she didn't see him and frowned. She felt a rush of air from behind her, but wasn't in time to evade the end of his Bo Staff and cried out in pain as it connected with her side, the sound of it hitting her flesh a loud `THWACK”.
Limping to the side, she glared angrily at him, her breath beginning to become unsteady as she tried to calm herself. Her husband twirled the weapon easily between his fingers, his kimono shirt flying around him as he twirled and tried to bring the weapon down on her head. She barely evaded it and rolled to the ground, her left leg swinging underneath him, knocking him onto his back. He gave a small intake of breath as he hit the hard ground and she took the moment to cartwheel over to his position and slam her foot down onto where his chest was. He materialized right before it connected, and she swore as her foot went through the wooden floor.
“Damn it!”
“Like I said. Instinct, not emotion.” The Bo Staff connected with her waist, knocking her forward and dislodging her foot. She twirled around, her mind unconsciously doing as he had asked, scanning the room.
`Right.' Coming up in a block, her arms stopped the staff head on, and even allowed her energy to burst forward, forcing Sesshomaru back a step. He nodded to her and she couldn't help but become a little flustered at the silent praise.
“Keep your guard up and come at me.” He said, crouching down in a defensive move, the Bo Staff held horizontally in his left hand, as he readied himself for an attack. Talking the offensive, she allowed a second for concentration of her energy and then moved forwards, her body twisting around and down to bring her leg up and around. Her heel landed precisely on his weapon, splitting it in half, and using the momentum, she felt herself come down on that foot and swing her other leg around, giving a satisfied cry when she felt it connect with his jaw. Grabbing the pieces of Bo Staff, she watched as his head twisted to the side from the impact, and fall to the floor like a china cup hitting stone. Not even waiting for him to hit the floor, she twirled the pieces of staff together into one hand, her miko powers sealing it together into one piece and then stuck it an inch from his throat to keep him from trying to lung up at her.
Breathing hard, her chest rising and falling from exertion, she stared calmly down at him, her long black hair, which had at one time been in a braid, coming loose in some spots. He actually staid there, not moving as he looked up at her, blood trickling from one side of his mouth. She grunted softly, becoming as still as the calm before a storm, and suddenly her heaving chest seemed like nothing to her, her heartbeat racing in her ears only showing her that she was alive and wasn't dreaming.
“I win.” He could only stare up at her, hoping the humiliation would come to him soon enough.
“Your debt is paid.” She said with a victorious smile. His eyes widened a fraction, the golden irises dilating somewhat in realization.
“You think.” Her smile faltered.
“What?”
“A opening!” She cocked her head slightly in confusion then suddenly felt one of his legs came up and slam into her side, knocking her sideways. She let loose a gasp as she fell, the Bo staff still held in her hands. Determined to at least not let him get away unscathed, she lashed out with the staff and heard him hiss as it made contact with his forehead, spinning him to the side to land on his stomach. This time however, he didn't allow her a chance to get up. She heard the sound of wood rushing through air and instinctively raised her Bo Staff straight up in front of her. Sure enough, another Bo staff came down onto it, and she gave a scream of energy and lunged forward, hacking the bow staff to either side of him. He locked them easily, catching one hit and twirling under his weapon to catch her in the side of her ribs.
“Stop hitting me in the sides!” She said as she bean coughing, drops of blood falling into her hand.
“Stop hitting me in the face.” He said back. She glared at him, wiping the blood on her priestess uniform pants as she once again readied her Bo Staff. Sesshomaru smiled at her.
“I will bet you anything you so desire, if you can strike me within the next twenty minutes.” Her eyes narrowed, her body taking a step back as she twirled her weapon expertly.
“What's the catch?” He smiled again and held his weapon out on an angle in front of him.
“You sleep with me willingly, no force and no complaints. Deal?” She gave him a hard look, putting her hand out in front of her, two fingers up as the others curled in against her palm. She began centering her energy.
“Anything?” He nodded, twirling his weapon over his head and down to hold out behind him. It was a flashy movement that she knew he did more to show off then use in battle.
“Unless I strike you first, in which case then I win.” She glared at him, a small halo of pink energy forming around her wrist making her sleeve billow up.
“Hai.” And he was gone. Simultaneously, she let loose a yell as her energy finished focusing itself and shot out of every part of her body, blinding Sesshomaru who had appeared behind her left shoulder. Smiling, she used it to her advantage, the miko powers focusing in onto her weapon. In a flash, she twisted around and struck out with her staff. But he dodged it, and lurched to the side. Grinning, she raised her staff above her head and brought it down, but he disappeared before she could touch him. Frowning, she looked around again, keeping her miko energy around her and saw him coming in from her left this time. Ducking, she spun around and did a high kick into his neck, her weapon coming around. But he somehow dodged it once more, his hand catching hold of it and flipping his body over. As he landed on the other side, he glared.
“You are cheating.”
“My advantage of having a weapon is your weakness.” She mimicked. He actually looked amused for a moment as he materialized. There was a few moments of absolutely nothing and she smiled as suddenly, she felt a presence above her and stuck her Bo stick straight into the air.
It ended up connecting into a very…`bad' place.
“Oh my God! Sesshomaru!” He was on the ground a few feet from her where he had instantly fallen, his body curled into a fetal ball as his hand grasped himself. Falling to his side, she saw that his eyes were tightly closed and looked from his hand to his contorted face. She panicked. What did she do? Where was a medic? Was he going to die? How hard had she-and then suddenly, the whole situation began to dawn on her-and before she could stop herself-she began to laugh. He cracked an eye open, his teeth gritted together in agony.
“You-!” She began to laugh harder, her hands grasping her heaving sides as she fell backwards and rolled over. She couldn't stop…it was just so-she burst into another fit of laughter, her legs rolling in the air as she tried to calm herself down.
“Poor…” She burst into laughter again, one hand covering her mouth as she looked at her husband.
“Poor-Sesshomaru-!” She instantly began to become hysterical, she was laughing so hard, her red face looking ready to explode as she continued to double up in mirth.
“You-bitch!” Slapping a hand over her mouth, she went into another fit of giggles but at least they were tamer then what she had been experiencing. Getting back onto her knees, she looked down at a pain engulfed Sesshomaru and it was all she could do to control herself.
“Well…I hit you…” And that was all she wrote, because she fell backwards and began laughing again.
Notes - A little short but-oh my god, I felt like Kagome there as I was writing this. I'm sorry…but the picture of Sesshomaru on the ground like that is absolutely hysterical in my mind! Oh my god…lol…oohhh…
