Summary: It's been seven years since the final battle with Naraku. After Kagome made her wish on the Shikon no Tama, the well was sealed, leaving her stranded in the Feudal Era. But she's not in Japan! Our favorite, blue-eyed miko has landed herself in China, and with the Imperial Family no less! [Some parts may be hard to understand if you haven’t seen Curse of the Golden Flower.]

Disclaimer: Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. I am just a worshipper. However, any original characters belong to me, as well as this story and its plot.

Sapphire blue eyes opened slowly as the gongs of the hour sounded. The pale, raven-haired girl sat up and roused herself from the last tendrils of sleep. She left the warmth of her bed to wash her face and began the morning ritual of reddening her lips and fixing her hair. Carefully closing her lips around a paper of red coloring, she then dabbed on the gold powder that all the women of the royal family wore. After combing out her long, black hair, she swept it up into an elegant bun. Patiently, she pushed several ornate golden hairpins into her bun and stood as servants fluttered into the room to dress her. A lavish robe of white silk and golden embroidered chrysanthemums was placed over her first layer of clothing, the traditional one-piece, low-cut gold dress that hugged her breasts and revealed the tops of the creamy orbs. The robe revealed her entire chest area and closed beneath her breasts to flow to her feet. The long sleeves hung from her slender yet muscular arms. She kept a straight face as a female servant fixed her breasts so that they pretty much popped out. So Chinese clothing was a bit more revealing than her original country’s, she still enjoyed the luxurious robes. She frowned as she noticed this robe seemed to be more extravagant than usual. She turned to the servant closest to her.
“Are we expecting visitors?” The servant kept her eyes lowered and remained kneeling. “And please Yanmei, I told you no bowing and formalities within my quarters, I am of no real imperial blood.” The servant rose but looked flustered.
“Yes, Princess, but you are the sash that holds the imperial robe together; you know that without you, the royal family would be in ruins.” The blue-eyed woman nodded sagely but remained quiet. “And yes, a very prestigious man from Japan has come to visit. Yes, someone from your homeland, are you not excited?!” Sapphire orbs sparkled with mirth as the woman laughed gently.
“Yes, Yanmei, but I doubt it would be anyone I know.” Yanmei nodded and gave a small smile.
“We are done dressing you, Princess. Your presence is required in the throne room. The Emperor and Empress await your arrival. The Princes will be arriving shortly as well.” The ‘princess’ nodded and allowed herself to be escorted to the throne room. Gongs sounded as she neared the throne room.
“The Princess approaches!” She stopped before a screen of colored blinds and waited patiently as it was rolled up. Her servants backed away, eyes lowered, and she stepped into the room. The Emperor and Empress sat quietly on their respective thrones. They greeted her with smiles. She clasped her hand before her and lowered herself onto her knees.
“I kneel before the Emperor.” She rose and faced the Empress. “I kneel before the Empress.” The Empress Phoenix gestured for her to stand.
“Come sit, Jinghua, we await the arrival of your brothers and then we shall greet our guest from Japan.”
“Yes mother,” Jinghua replied, seating herself on her throne. There were three empty thrones, one between herself and the Empress, and two on the other side of the Emperor. The Emperor and Empress sat silently side by side. “Tell me father, who is our guest? I should hope it to be someone of my acquaintance.” Emperor Ping smiled.
“I would not think you would have known such a man. He is a very powerful demon who rules a great amount of lands. I have made peace with him through letters, and we hope to talk of trade during his visit.” Jinghua nodded. Just then, gongs sounded.
“Prince Wan approaches!” The blinds were rolled up and the ex-crown prince stepped forward.
“I kneel before my father, the Emperor. I kneel before the Empress. I kneel before the Princess.” Prince Wan bowed to all three before taking his seat, the throne to the right of the Emperor.
“Prince Yu approaches!” The youngest son arrived and bowed to the four as well and took his seat next to Wan. Only one empty throne remained now, the one between the Empress and Jinghua.
“The Crown Prince Jai approaches!!” Jinghua smiled brightly at him after he had bowed and paid his respects. She considered him a brother, as she did of the other Princes, but he was closer to her than Wan or Yu. He returned her smile with his own small grin as he took his seat.
“We await the arrival of our guest.” Emperor Ping spoke, shifting comfortably.

He cringed internally as the male servants beat upon the gong. He kept his face impassive; his eyes guarded, his mouth a straight line. Overall, he bore the look of boredom with a serious air.
“The Esteemed Guest from Japan approaches!!” The man dressed in green robes rang out, unaware he was giving the ‘esteemed guest’ an esteemed headache. Suppressing the desire to wring the fool’s neck, he stood before a wall of colored blinds. Beyond it he could see six thrones with a person settled on each. Another thing about China, they had no means of real privacy. He fought the urge to roll his eyes. He was about to allow himself to indulge in the act, but then the blinds were being rolled up. The scent of incense curled around the room, causing his sense of smell to be dulled. He strode into the room confidently, looking the Emperor in the eyes. They held each other’s gazes for a moment. He lowered his head in his own respectful bow. Then it hit him. The sweet scent of ripe cherry blossoms with a hint of sunshine. He whipped his head up and found himself staring into wide sapphire eyes.

Her breath caught in her throat and her eyes grew big when she saw him walk proudly into the room. He held her father’s gaze for a short eternity then lowered his head in a respectful nod. She watched silently as her heart rammed into her ribcage in an erratic timbre. She saw his sharp intake of air and then she found herself staring into smoldering golden depths.
“Kagome??!”

Kagome clutched her chest as she began to pant heavily. She felt overwhelmed. She didn’t know what surprised her most; the fact that Sesshoumaru was standing before her or because his emotionless mask had slipped and he stared with utter shock written blatantly on his face.
“Jinghua!!” Jai jumped out of his seat and helped her to sit up straight as she began to slip from her throne, “Sister, are you alright??!!” She smiled gratefully to her concerned brother, accepting his help.
“I… I am fine, Jai… Thank you.” She regained her composure, catching her breath.
“Jinghua, my daughter, how do you fare? What has caused this episode?” The Emperor looked at her worriedly.
“Father, I am fine. Forgive my lack of propriety.” She turned to their visitor and studied him. He still looked the same from all those years ago. His long silver hair shone, not a stray strand in sight. His white haori and hakama were pristine as usual, his blue and gold obi tied round his waist. His armor gleamed, and the ever present fluffy fur rested on his shoulder. The blue crescent moon sat on his brow, his cheeks adorned with two magenta stripes, his eyelids a strip of crimson. ‘Is this a dream?’ As though in a trance, she rose from her seat and approached him. He watched her, calculating her.
“Sesshoumaru?” Her heart clenched as he stared down at her silently. ‘Please don’t let me be dreaming.’ The Imperial Family sat silently in shock behind them.
“Kagome.” She felt her heart about to burst. Finally, a familiar face, a friend, an ally. Someone from her past. Deep, sapphire depths stared into bottomless molten gold. She saw surprise, confusion, a lot of joy, and a flicker of regret. She pushed her questions away and let out a breath. She threw herself at him and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Sesshoumaru.” She mumbled into his chest. She felt hot tears trailing down her cheeks as he wrapped his arms around her. She felt his chest contract as he took in a deep draught of air. She guessed he was inhaling her scent since his nose was buried in her hair. As his chest expanded, she gave a soft laugh. ‘He did admit once that my scent was pleasant to him.’
“Jinghua, you know the Western Lord Sesshoumaru?” Kagome gently pulled away from the Inu-Youkai and faced her father. She bowed and lowered her eyes.
“My father, forgive me. Sesshoumaru is a very close friend of mine. We were once allies and fought together in Japan to defeat a great evil. You remember the tale of Naraku.” The Emperor nodded. “He is the elder brother of the Hanyou Inuyasha.” The Emperor’s eyes softened. He knew the tale of his daughter’s first and only love.
“Yes, I understand. Perhaps you and Lord Sesshoumaru should get reacquainted before we talk business. However, introductions are still to be made. You know I am an honorable man. Now take your seat, Jinghua.” Kagome nodded and dutifully sat in her throne. Servants came in carrying another lush throne covered in gold, jade, and jewels. They placed it facing the Emperor, a short distance away. “Please, Lord Sesshoumaru, sit.” The Taiyoukai did so and the Emperor rose. “Lord Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Lands of Japan, I, Emperor Ping, present to you, my family, the Imperial Family of China. My wife, the Empress Phoenix.” The Empress bowed and remained bowing. “My First Born, Prince Wan, my Second Born and Crown Prince, Jai, my Third Born, Prince Yu, and my daughter, Princess Jinghua.” As each were introduced, they rose and bowed and remained kneeling. Sesshoumaru nodded and they rose and took their seats once again.
“Hn. Always one to impress, aren’t you, Ping? ” The Emperor laughed heartily.
“Lighten up a bit, Sesshoumaru. You know us Chinese are all about impressions. Come now, you and Jinghua, or Kagome, as it is her birth name, may catch up in the tea room. We’ll talk later. Jinghua,” he smiled a little sadly, “Kagome, take Lord Sesshoumaru with you to the tea room. You and Lord Sesshoumaru can explain to us later over the evening meal.”
“Yes father,” Kagome said smiling. She bowed before leaving the room with Sesshoumaru.

A/N: There you have it. The very first chapter of A Deeper Destiny. This idea for this fic hit me as I left the movie theatres after watching Curse of the Golden Flower. Ahh, how I love those Chinese movies with no real plot or ending. Hahh. Anyway, I hope you all liked it. I have a few chapters already completed, but I wont post unless I get some reviews!! I need to know if you people like it or not, if you don’t review, I’m going to assume that no one likes it and so I will discontinue this story. I'll be posting a couple at a time, hopefully more if I have enough time to write!
