InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Fool's World ❯ A Fool's World ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

She had called him a fool.

And he had sat there and let her say it. Smiling cheerfully and forgiving her instantly.

He was no fool; he had never been a fool. It had taken her two years to realize it. Two very long years.

She had criticized his way of life, and had arrogantly believed she knew what she was talking about.

In response he had merely laughed and the quite seriously said: “Sango, look at our lives as a story. I live my life as a comedy, because the only other option is to live it as a tragedy. Which would you rather live dear Sango?”

She had found no words or will to counter his statement, and so she had remained silent. Giving no thought to what he had said.

She was the fool.

She had thought that together the two of them could hold each other. Hold each other together so that her heart wouldn't break again, and his would never have too.

He had known truth. He had known that their romance was doomed before it even began.

But even so, one and a half years ago he had proposed to her. One year ago he had renewed his proposal. Half a year ago he kissed her for the first time.

One month ago he had told her they couldn't be together.

She had said nothing.

She had believed that if Inuyasha and Kagome's romance could succeed then theirs coud too.

Three months ago Kagome had left their world upset.

She had never come back.

The well was sealed. At first they had believed that someone else had sealed the well. But, Inuyasha was unable to find a scent other than Kagome's near it. She had sealed herself away. Away from them.

Hope eluded Inuyasha, and he slowly faded. Eventually he too disappeared.

Afterwards Miroku had slowly become calmer... or more likely; quieter.

Until finally he had taken away his proposal. She had cried for days, but never in front of him.

She watched as he used his voice very little, and his wind tunnel even less.

Eventually she realized that with Inuyasha and Kagome both gone; Miroku had lost hope. Which was what had kept him going for so long. The wind tunnel was getting bigger, and Miroku thought his time was near.

He just didn't want to hurt her.

She felt a very familiar sting of jealousy, that she could bring no hope to him; but Kagome's return could.

She would have done anything to get a reaction out of him now. Anything. For any reaction.

She tried to force conversation, but she found herself with nothing interesting to say. She even tried seducing him... but he didn't even look her way.

He was no longer found interest in the girls around him, and went without speaking for hours.

She didn't know what to do anymore.

*~*~* o O o *~*~*

Sango took out her single shard. The one Miroku had given to her for good luck so long ago. She stared at it sadly, her eyes puffy and bloodshot from crying.
Miroku had left again. She didn't know where he went; she just hoped he would come back, like last time.
She wondered if this shard had enough power for a wish. Even if it was a selfish one. Should she risk it?
“Please, if your out there, if you can. Bring Kagome back to us.... w-we need her.” whispered Sango, dry sobs wracking her thin body. Thinking of all the things she had lost, when there was so much she could have gained.
