It don’t own any of the Inuyasha characters, sad though it is.... I just get to play with them.

After they found her crying in the well, Kagome was taken inside and took a long hot bath. She wouldn’t speak to anyone about what had happened, only bursting into tears every time someone brought a certain dog demon or anything about the feudal past. Her mother quickly forbade them from speaking about it anymore. She wasn’t sure what had happened, but it was more then obvious Kagome needed some time alone.

In her bath Kagome sat and stared at the water, silent tears streamed down her face and splashed into the soapy water. After almost two hours she finally forced herself to get out and retreated into the confines of her room. Several days passed and she said nothing, only venturing downstairs to eat a few bites of food before disappearing again. “Mom... Do you think she’s alright? Maybe someone should talk to her. School starting back up in a week and...” Sota spoke thoughtfully but his mother shook her head. “Don’t worry dear, she’ll come around.”

The next day Kagome was on her way to find something to eat when the phone rang. She starred at it for a moment, as it called out twice, and then hesitantly picked it up. “Hello?” She spoke softly, like it might bite off her ear is she spoke to loudly. “Kagome? I take it that your fever passed... I can’t believe you got so sick! We were really worried about you!”

Kagome sighed, leaning against the nearest hallway wall as Eri chattered on about her most recent ‘illness.’ The conversation then turned to school, and then to Eri’s new boyfriend while Kagome didn’t say a word. “Say; are you still dating Inuyasha?” Her heart caught, and she struggled to breath normally. “Kagome? What’s wrong? Don’t tell me... He broke up with you. Don’t tell me he left you for that other girl!” Eri was already fuming as she concocted a devilish tale about Inuyasha running off with some woman.

Kagome couldn’t say it...

“Yeah... he left me... he...” Her eyes watered, ‘No stupid! I won’t cry... I won’t... I’ll forget about him.’ Kagome told herself while her friend started chattering again. Soon school would start and she’d forget all about him. It was best... if she just forgot.

It was the last day before school started up, and her grandpa had decided he needed some help cleaning out one of the old rooms. “Do we really need all this stuff?” Kagome asked as he poked through some boxes. “I mean it’s just ju...ju...” She was caught mid-word as a series of sneezes overtook her.

“It’s not junk young lady! Why look here. This is a special mirror your great, great, great uncle acquired from a... Kagome are you listening to me!” He fumed while holding up a beautifully crafted silver mirror, which twisted itself into a pattern of vines and strange looking petals made of white stone. Kagome glanced over at him, trying not to sneeze. “I’m listening... oh wow. What’s that?”

“I was just about to tell you the story about how your great, great, great uncle ‘acquired’ the mirror when he...” But already his granddaughter’s mind was wandering elsewhere. She’d suddenly turned back into her old self less then a week ago... but was more distracted then ever. “Why don’t you keep it Kagome? If we keep it in here it will just get broken.”

“Really? You’re the best... let me just put away.” She smiled and was about to sneak away when a mop appeared in front of her. “You can put it away AFTER you help me clean.”

That night Kagome sat silently on her bed looking out the window. As long as she kept her mind off of the memories life wasn’t so hard. Tomorrow she’d go to school as see her old friends. Life would return to normal. No more fake illnesses, no more demon fighting. Maybe she’d even go out with Hojo... A pain twitched in her chest and she slipped from her bed.

After a few moment she walked over to her desk, and looked down at the mirror she been given earlier that day. Her reflection stared back at her, and seemed happier then she knew she looked. It was as if it gave off a warm fuzzy feeling, it enveloped her and... suddenly she found herself smiling.

“Careful with that... It wouldn’t be hard to loose yourself.” The unfamiliar voice spoke in a whisper only a few inches from her left ear. Released from the mirror’s warmth Kagome spun around quickly but no one was there. ‘Great... now I’m going insane.’ She shook her head, sure that someone had spoken to her.

“You see I’ve been searching for that mirror for some time...Just recently have I been able to feel it’s presence.” Again the voice spoke, through from a different direction this time. Kagome turned once more and found a stranger standing in front of her window. Surly he hadn’t gotten in through there... it was still locked. He turned to face her, pale blonde hair failing across his face as his head titled to one side. His blue eyes met her’s and whatever power she had told her to be cautious. She knew at once he wasn’t human, but he wasn’t a demon either.

“The name’s Dasl, and it’s good to see you Kagome.”
