Sadly I do not own any of the Inuyasha characters...

The world was cold, and dark... and nothing mattered anymore.

It was snowing. During the middle of summer the heavens opened up and shed cold tears across the city. Most where shocked, for the weather reports had called fora sever drought over the next two months. And so it was looked upon as a miracle, a strange weather occurrence, but nothing more.

At the Hiragashi Shrine Kagome’s mother waited for her only daughter to return from feudal japan. Though Kagome hadn’t told her about the upcoming battle with Naraku, a mother’s instincts told her something big was about to happen... And her little girl was caught in the middle of it. What was worse, Kagome hadn’t returned home for three weeks. She feared the worst, but wouldn’t let herself admit it.

Sota was with his grandfather when it started to snow, eating ramen and listening to yet another rant about some water imp or a cursed mirror. “Are you listening to me?” Grampa demanded when he finally noticed that Sota was staring distractedly out the window, chopsticks paused before an open mouth. “The demon brothers of Suva aren’t a laughing matter my boy! What’s so important out there... that... you... Oh yy Kami, it’s snowing!”

Within a few moments Sota, his mother, and his grandfather where all outside watching the snow fall. At first nobody said anything, and then Sota exclaimed how cool it was and his mother couldn’t help but smile and agree. However Grampa could frowned and crossed his arms in front of his chest. “There is... something wrong...” Never in his life had he felt this strange foreboding, and he could not place it. “Well of course it’s a little weird...”

“No...” He couldn’t place what it was, for while he’d always claimed to have spiritual powers... and indeed he did have some, it was very faint. “There is definitely something off, and I’m gonna find out what it is.” However, both his daughter and grandson ignored him. “Why doesn’t anyone ever listen to me?” He grumbled and turned to go back inside when another strange feeling hit him. “There is something... at the old well.”

His daughter looked worried for the first time. “The well? Do you think it’s Kagome?” She said but got no reply. “I’m going to check... just to make sure nothing is wrong.” Sota’s mother decided and the other two quickly stated that they where going with.

Which was how on that snowy summer day, that they came to the well. The three slowly entered the building that housed it, and leaned over to look into the darkness. “I wish we’d brought a flashlight. It’s so dark down there I can see anything.” Sota nodded in agreement with his mother, “Hey... do y-you hear something?” They held silent and listened until a faint sound reached their ears. “Like crying... is it....? Kagome! Kagome is that you down there?!”

The crying stopped and there was a moment of silence... “Mom? Is that really you? ... Am I really back?”

She had returned from the darkness, at the highest cost.
