Damain had just realized his past and all of his powers had reawakened. He then felt the feeling that Amaris was facing death... again. Before he could rush to leave, Vesta stopped him.
"You can not help as a vampire Damian."
"Then what the fuck am I going to do!"
"Calm your tongue Damian."
Damian turned to see the last man he wanted to see, or should I say angel.
"Father."
Amaris was riding as fast as her horse could go, the wind was beating against her face which now showed no emotion. She didn't want Kali to see the anger, the pain she was holding inside. She just wanted it all to end, she craved not only Kali's death, but also her own. Guilt over the deaths of so many still tore at her heart, and everytime she saw the angel of death she prayed it was there for her. It never was, instead it took those she wanted to save. Amaris felt a sudden shift in her aura, and her vision slowly dimmed. A premonition was coming to her, even though she didn't want to allow it. All she saw was a dense, chilly fog, but then she saw soft white rose petals falling. Amaris's vision returned and she saw that her horse had stopped. She thought of the rose petals and a memory came to her.
"You are the White Rose of Nolenea, Amaris."
Her mother had told her that when she was little. She told her that before Kali ordered her death. Amaris knew the petals represented something about ehr, but she was unsure of what. Amaris considered turning back, but she saw something that made her rethink that. Standing in front of her was a man who looked just like her brother.
Damien was trying to get to Amaris as quickly as possible. He was running as fast as legs could carry him, which was extremly fast due to him being half angel. He did miss having the ability to fly, but thanks to his father he was no longer a vampire. His father had argued for years with the keepers of the heavens for his son's life. He reminded them of the prophecy spoken at his son's birth. The propehcy that told of Damien being a key part in the destruction of darkness. He was destined to save Amaris, but couldn't do so as a creature of darkness. So the heavens granted his wish, and his son was given back his life. He was mortal now, but like other elves he still had the chance to earn his immortality.
Damien knew Kali was waiting for Amaris, but he couldn't fathom why Amaris wasn't with her sisters. He knew it was his chance to prove to Amaris that his love never died for her. He was unable to prove it after their first night together becuase the next morning she faced Radella in battle. Amaris had been cursed to never be able to speak of her love or else see her loved ones die. She broke the curse by showing Damien she loved him when she gave him her body and soul. For nearly a year Damien had fought alongside her, watched her battle demons and other creatures. He was determined to never love a woman, but she changed that. She cared for him when he was wounded, she understood his pain.
As Damien ran, he remembered a night that had broken Amaris's fighting spirit.
The night after her brother killed her little cousin, Leyna. They had to burn Leyna's body so a necromancer couldn't use it. Afterwards it started to rain, and Damian knew why. Amaris was crying, but she was nowhere in sight. Damien went into the woods, looking for her. He found her sitting in the arms of a statue of an old king. Her legs were pulled to her chest and her head was down. She didn't hear Damien approach until he started to sing to her. Singing was the only way he could express what he was holding inside.
" I will be the answer at the end of the line
I will be there for you while you take the time
In the burning of uncertainty I will be your solid ground
I will hold the balance if you cant look down"
Amaris looked up at him. Her eyes were a deep grey, the likes of which broke his heart as they told of her sadness and the guilt she felt.
"If it takes my whole life I wont break I wont bend
Itll all be worth it worth it in the end
Cause I can only tell you what I know
that I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
youll still be burning so bright"
Damien walked closer to her, as she watched him.
"Cast me gently into morning
For the night has been unkind
Take me to a place so holy
That I can wash this from my mind
The memory of choosing not to fight"
Damien was right in front of her now.
"If it takes a whole life I wont break I wont bend
Itll all be worth it worth it in the end
Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
And when the stars have all burned out
Youll still be burning so bright
Cast me gently into morning for the night has been unkind"
Amaris left the statue and Damien embraced her. He held for hours as she cried, releasing all of the pain in her heart, her soul whcih had grown weary from holding it all in.
Damien snapped back to reality as he remembered that night. He would be damned to let anything happen to her. She was the only good in his wretched life.
